6Inuyasha (revised)

I'm back! And the chapter's pretty long, too. Thank you to all who read this story! Miroku joins the team, finally! Quick question before I let you go, I want to know whether you want me to stay closer to the Inuyasha story, or if you want me to deviate more? What I mean by this is do you want to see less "word for word except only changing a few lines from the episode" kind of thing or go more "word for word"? Because I would like to put more of my own spin to the each episode so it's something fresh and new and not something you already know what's going to happen, but I want to know how you guys feel about it. So, PLEASE let me know in the comments! I would appreciate it a lot! Now, here you are!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN INUYASHA

Ch. 8: Miroku the Monk

The next few days were non-stop travel, but I didn't mind it at all. Inuyasha and I were on better terms. We still bickered a lot, but that was normal, and best of all was the scenery. What I was seeing was unlike anything I've ever seen back in Tokyo. I even started getting into the habit of staying up late and staring up at the stars.

Today, we were traveling through a mountain pass when suddenly a gigantic boulder came hurdling towards us down the slope of the mountain. All of us except for Inuyasha had gotten out of the way in time. Unfortunately, Inuyasha had collided with the boulder and was falling at a rapid pace.

"Inuyasha!" I called out from way above him.

In that moment, someone tried to pick me up by the waist, but I was too quick for the mystery person and jumped away from their grasp. I was in defense mode now as I quickly readied my bow and arrow at the stranger who had tried to take me.

"Who are you?!" I demanded.

The person who attempted to pick me up was a tall man with brown hair and eyes. His hair up is a small pony tail upon his head and was wearing a long dark purple robe.

"Fear not, young lady. You have no reasons to doubt my intentions, I'm not more than a simple monk" the man stated calmly, but I wasn't buying it.

I shot a normal arrow at him, but to my surprise, he very quick and dodged it, but only barely.

"My lady, put your weapon down, there is no need for there to be any violence"

I ignored him and quickly slid another arrow into my bow, aiming it at him.

"Tell me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you here and now?!" I narrowed my eyes and glowered at him.

"Because your friends is in need of your assistance"

Then I remembered, Inuyasha and Shippo! I wanted so badly to turn back to see if they were alright, but I forced my attention back on my assaulter.

"My friends will are fine. Why are you here and what do you want with me?!"

"sigh….I never wanted it to come to this….but only if I must"

In that moment, he came at me with the staff he had been holding onto. I quickly moved out of the way and tried punching him, but he moved out the way and swiped my neck, but never hit me directly. Next thing I knew, the strange man used his hand to create a powerful storm near where Inuyasha and Shippo were.

I went over to them as quickly as I could, forgetting the man that had tried to take me. The wind was over quicker than it had begun, and the man was starting to make his escape.

"Inuyasha, Shippo, you guys all right?" I asked as I approached them both.

"The creep! Who was that guy anyway?!" Inuyasha asked in an irritated tone.

"I dunno, he said he was a monk or something. More importantly, how the hell was he doing that?!"

"Doing what?" Inuyasha asked curiously

"The storm! He created the storm with his hand!"

"No way…"

"Well, whatever. He's gone now and the shards are safe…" I felt around my neck for the necklace the shards were on, but I felt nothing. I froze then.

"Um….guys….there's a problem….that guy might have taken my shards…"

"WHAT?! You supposed to protect that gem with your life! Get on my back, we're hunting that bastard down!"

So, Inuyasha, being the Inu youkai he was, was able to pick up on his scent and track him down that way. His scent led us to a town.

"C'mon, dog boy. We don't have all day" I pointed out to Inuyasha

"Get off my case, there are a lot of smells to sift through!"

"People are starting to stare"

"I'm with Kagome, these guys don't look too happy" Shippo added.

Eventually, Inuyasha caught his bike and followed to a geisha house.

"Basted!" Inuyasha yelled as he busted through the door of the geisha house, interrupting the jewel thief's time with the geishas.

"I'm so glad you're here! It's too good to be true! You're a real sight for sore eyes" the jewel thief had gotten up from where he was sitting, walked up to me and tried to hold my hands.

I wasn't having any of it, so I smacked away his hangs and brought out my bow and loaded it with an arrow.

"We don't have time for this. Give us back the jewel shard!" I demanded coldly.

Inuyasha cut in.

"I'll give you sore eyes!" Inuyasha said as he tried swiping at the thief with his claws, but the so called monk was too quick and agile for Inuyasha.

"You again, I should have figured as much" Said the monk

"Yeah, you should have. Funny, I was just thinking the same thing, but I guess not all of us were blessed with good looks and brains. Don't suppose you'd be interested in handing over that jewel fragment you stole from us?"

"A gem such as this does not belong in the hands of a demon"

"Then I guess you can give it to me, then. Since I'm human" I said as I shot an arrow at the thief, but again, he dodged it and then ran for it. Inuyasha and I were on his heels.

We chased him all throughout the town until we reached almost the very end. That was when Inuyasha finally drew out his Tessaiga. Unfortunately, even the Tessaiga was no match for the staff he was holding, blocking every one of the Tessaiga's blows.

He's swinging it wrong, anyway, I thought bitterly. When I finally came to the conclusion that Inuyasha was never going to land a hit, I loaded my bow and shot at the monk. It was enough to knock him down and separate him from his staff.

"Good job Kagome!" Inuyasha called out to me as he thrust the Tessaiga in front of the monk's face.

"I'll be having that jewel shard back from ya' now, unless you'd rather die, that is!"

"If you can could swing you Tessaiga the right way. Remind me to give you a proper sword swinging lesson later" I said to Inuyasha as I walked up to where the he and the monk were.

"What's wrong with my swings, huh?! I'd like to see you do better!"

The thief used our argument to get away, and he was up on his feet in no time once again.

"He's getting away!" I yelled out when I realized that the thief make his escape. Inuyasha and I were hot on his heals once again after that.

As the thief was running, he yelled out behind himself "Villagers! Take heed! Distance yourself from this place, I warn you! It's for your own safety!"

What is he talking about?!

The thief finally stopped when we were outside the village.

"This is the end of the line! This time, victory is mine!" Inuyasha yelled out to the monk.

I rolled my eyes, and sighed. Then I noticed that the smug smile the monk was now wearing on his face and held out his hand in front of him, and then I finally realized what he was about to do. It's was the same exact thing that had happened earlier.

"Inuysha, get out of the way!" I tried to yell, but I was too late. The man unleashed a powerful gale of wind from his hand that sucked everything into the palm of his right hand. Inuyasha was smart enough to thrust his Tessaiga into the ground to keep him from being sucked away into his hand while Shippo and I held on to the trunk of a large tree.

"How the hell do we stop him?!" I yelled out.

Even though Inuyasha was still holding onto his Tessaiga, he was being pulled in regardless. I knew I had to do something, and quick. Then an idea popped into my head. He warned the villagers because he doesn't want to hurt humans! That's it!

"Shippo, stay here! I'm going in!"

"What?! Are you crazy?!"

"Just trust me on this!"

Shippo was silent after that, and made a jump for it. I was immediately sucked into the wind.

When Inuysha realized what I was doing, he started freaking out.

"Kagome!" Inuyasha yelled out to me as I floated above him and past him towards the jewel thief. just as I predicted, he used his prayer beads to close his palm and stop the wind. After that, I fell on top of him, but we were both fine.

"Well, that could have been worse" I said as said as I stated getting myself up from the floor.

"Kagome, are you crazy?! You could have gotten yourself killed!" Inuyasha yelled out at me.

I rolled my eyes and said "Oh, no. I was in danger, excuse me as I go cry. Look, I knew he was never going to harm me because I'm human. And also, I didn't see you doing anything to stop it"

"That was because I didn't want to get myself killed! But you, on the other hand, are suicidal!"

"It's not called being suicidal, it's called being clever" I countered as I started looking for the jewel. I could easily see it glowing pink from within his robe. As I reached for it, his hand unexpectedly caught my wrist.

"Please, just give me a minute to explain" He said in calm, pleading voice. He was being serious. I allowed him to talk.

"I am too in search for the shards of the shikon jewel. My purpose is to find and eliminate a demon. A terrible demon that goes by the name of Naraku."

"Naraku?" I asked curiously.

"Yes, and it is the same demon that left this accursed hole in my right hand"

"What kind of demon is this thing?" I asked.

"I know little of him, except that he is very wicked and thought to devour people."

"Go on" I urged.

He looked up at the sky dreamily and continued, " My father battled Naraku long ago in his youth, it was over 50 years ago. This battle ensued for several years and each time Naraku appeared before my grandfather, he took on the form of a different human."

"A shape-shifter, then?" I asked

"Correct. They say that the last time he appeared in front of my grandfather, he was in the form of a beautiful woman. My grandfather had great spiritual powers, but unfortunately, as fate would have it"

I cut in "he was a lech?" I asked boredly.

"Remarkable intuition! Naraku pieced my grandfather's right hand with his sacred religious seal and managed to escape."

Miroku looked down at his hand. "each year, the hole in my hand gets bigger, and the wnd ever more powerful. Unless I can defeat Naraku, I myself will be devoured by the hole."

"You….you mean that hole will kill you?" I asked, truly concerned.

"Yes. And I am ready to accept that fate if that is truly my destiny. But in the mean time, I must continue to try and stop Naraku!" The man was determined.

"Knowing Naraku, he's gathering the shards of the Shikon jewel fragments in order to strengthen his own malicious power. I'm sure of it! I know because Naraku came close to getting the jewl 50 years ago. In doing so, he slew the priestess protecting it."

Kikyo?

Inuyasha and I must have been thinking the same thing, because as soon as he heard the word priestess, his ears perked up and he was on his feat immediately after.

"You say he killed a priestess?" Inuysha asked.

"Yup"

Inuyasha was paralyzed.

"Inuyasha…are you okay?" I asked, concerned. Maybe he's thinking this demon was the one who killed Kikyo…

Inuyasha ignored me and grabbed the Miroku by the front of his robes.

"Miroku! You say this Naraku takes on all kinds of different forms, right?! What about now? What does he look like now?!"

"Calm down, if I had that information, I would have slain him long ago myself."

Inuyasha was shaking with anger by that point.

"It would be best if we looked for the shards together. I'm sure we're bound to run into him while we're collecting the shards."

"I dunno, I've always been a solitary man. I'd rather work on my own then in the company of others." Miroku said as he looked away.

"Why? So people don't judge you when you con and steal from them?"

"Dear Kagome, you are too tough to admit that you are troubled by this retched fait of mine." Miroku said as he clasped my hands together with his.

"If you don't remove your hands, I will punch you" I warned to Miroku, irritated. He just ignored me.

"I wish for you to bear me a son"

Now, I was irritated. "And why the hell would I do that?!"

"If for some un-seeable reason, I should fail to destroy Naraku, I should like our son to carry on the family's mission!" He said as he grabbed the small of my back and scooted my closer to him.

Before I had the chance to punch Miroku, Inuyasha swooped in front of me and separated us.

"Hands off, priest! Your only mission lechery!" Inuyasha yelled out to Miroku.

"I'm a monk, not a priest" Miroku told Inuyasha calmly.

"Don't you consider laying a hand on Kagome ever again!"

"Not if you want to get punched!" I added as I shot Miroku a death glare.

"Oh! I beg your pardon. I thought you no more than a companion, but it seems that you are in love with Kagome."

Both of our faces went red.

"Huh!...you…you got it all wrong! She-she's just a jewel detector!"

I was so irritated by that point that I punched Inuyasha in the stomach instead.

"Just a jewel detector, huh? What about all those times I saved your ass?" I turned away, even more irritated then I already was. "Maybe I'll just travel with Miroku for now on. He seems to appreciate me more."

"That is true, you should treat her more kindly" Miroku added in that calm voice of his.

"You stay out of this!" Inuyasha chocked out.

We (we as in mostly Inuyasha and I) bickered like this for a while, but when things simmered down, Miroku decided to travel with us for real.
