Elsa woke up, groaning softly into Jack's chest. She rolled away from him, easing herself through the blankets. Favorite. Granted, Jack only knew roughly six people in this world, and one of them was an enemy, but it still felt good. She sat up and slowly extricated herself from the covers. She didn't want to wake him before breakfast.

Elsa made her way to the kitchen, where she said good morning to Gerda, who was aggressively beating eggs.

"Good morning, Your Majesty," she smiled. "How was your slumber with Jack?"

"W-what? How do you know about that?" Elsa blushed furiously.

Gerda laughed. "Calm down, Your Majesty; you don't have to explain anything to me." She winked at Elsa as she sliced a thick chunk of ham. "I'm sure Jack will need plenty of food to refuel."

Feeling herself turn even redder, Elsa spluttered, "It wasn't like that. At all." The sound of feet softly padding the floor outside the kitchen caught her attention. Who's awake already? she wondered. The kitchen door barely made a sound as it was pushed open.

"Elsa," came the lyrical voice of her sister, but it wasn't as cheerful as usual.

"Anna," she said, smiling as she turned around. She watched Anna struggle to reciprocate a sheepish grin in return. She was braced against the kitchen door, holding it slightly ajar.

"Hey, you got a minute?"

"Sure," Elsa chirped, always happy to spend more time with her sister. They walked out of the kitchen together, Gerda watching after them with a sad smile on her lips. "Is something wrong?" Elsa asked when her sister's silence started to feel uncomfortable.

"I- I heard you last night." Anna looked away.

Elsa's eyes opened wide. "Heard what?"

"I heard you and Jack." The redhead looked her sister in the eye. "I'm hurting you?"

"What? What, no. You'd never hurt me…"

"You're jealous of Jack and me, spending time together. You can't deny it, Elsa; I heard you."

Elsa bit her lip and felt her eyes well with tears. "I'm sorry, Anna. He's just the first guy I've really talked to. My first friend besides you. I didn't want- "

"You didn't want him to like me better. Elsa, you know I'm dating Kristoff."

"I know, but- "

"I'd never cheat on Kristoff. And I'd never hurt you." Anna looked up at Elsa with eyes pleading.

"I know, but- "

"I just want you to be happy. If you want, I'll talk to Jack less. If that's what you want."

"Anna, just listen- "

"I mean, it felt like there was something between you two, but you said there wasn't. I'm sorry I didn't notice it but- "

Elsa knew that her sister was still babbling, but she could only hear her voice softly droning in the background. Anna was spewing her kindhearted misunderstandings again, and though Elsa should be thankful that her sister wasn't upset with her for saying such harsh things just the night before, she felt anger start to bubble in her chest. Her eyes briefly clouded over with darkness, then became the perfect picture of ice. Her vision turned hazy as the anger spilled forth, rising up out of her throat.

"Anna," she pleaded. "Please, just stop." Tears trailed down her cheeks.

"Elsa, what's wrong?" Anna rushed to comfort her older sister, but Elsa distraughtly pulled away.

"You're all I've ever had, Anna. And I've barely even had you." Elsa tried to control herself, but she couldn't stop crying. "I didn't even have Mom and Dad. This is someone new for me; I'm sorry I got so selfish. I just wanted someone to myself so much." Elsa sobbed in anguish, her shoulders and chest heaving.

"How can you say that, Elsa? Mom and Dad were always there for you. And you never let me in, no matter how much I tried."

Elsa blinked. Suddenly, her tears had stopped. If it weren't so sad, it might have been funny. "There for me? Mom and Dad were there for me?" The last of her teardrops slid down her cheeks, freezing as they dripped off her chin.

"You always pushed Mom away whenever she tried to talk to you, to hold you."

"She never stopped him."

"Stopped who?"

"Stopped Dad. They locked me up, Anna. They locked me in my room and treated me like a monster."

"They loved you," Anna cried. "And they locked me up too. They locked me in this castle, and I've never been able to have a normal life."

"You've never had a normal life? Are you blaming me for that? For you not being allowed to go outside and play in the dirt?" Elsa felt herself becoming dangerously upset. Her control over her powers was slipping, and the whole room had become icy cold.

Anna bristled. "No, I'm not blaming you. And I lost out on way more than dirt."

"Then how do you think I felt? I was almost always in my room. I only came out at night, when everyone was asleep. At least you could talk to the people in the castle. I'm the one who's cursed. And no one ever bothered to explain that."

"If you felt that way, you should've talked to Dad about it. You should've talked to Mom. Gerda. Kai. You could've talked to me."

"I was just a kid, Anna," Elsa said, gritting her teeth. "So I listened to them. And they told me to stay away from you, to keep you safe. That's all they cared about, keeping you safe, keeping our family looking flawless from the outside. No one could know that their daughter was a fuck-up."

Anna gasped at her sister's profanity. You're not a fuck-up, Elsa.

"So whenever you feel like you were trapped, remember that at least they cared about you."

"They loved you, too," Anna cried, her voice softer now, running out of ways to defend their parents.

"How can you say that? How can you say that when everything points to the obvious: that everyone loved you. That they all wanted to protect you, not me. That they all cared about you, not me. I just wanted one person, Anna, one person. That's all I wanted. That's all I wanted."

Elsa closed her eyes for a moment, trying to regain her composure, and in that time, Anna made her decision and lunged forward. Her older sister opened her eyes again just in time to see her charging for her face. Confused and terrified, she stumbled backward, her shoulders bumping against the wall. But Anna gently reached for her and cupped her face, pulling her closer. She kissed her gently on the cheek, then blinked up at her older sister.

"If you want one person, Elsa, you always have me." She smiled earnestly, tears slipping down her cheeks.

"Anna," Elsa cried, hugging her sister. For a moment they just cried together, regretting their fight, but suddenly, they heard footsteps approaching.

Jack had awoken in an empty bed, starting to cool from the loss of the previous night's company. He had rolled around in the covers a bit, trying to collect Elsa's scent, given up, stretched and yawned, and finally gone to the bathroom to wash his face. He'd strolled groggily down the hall until he reached the dining room. Strangely enough, the door was coated with a thin layer of ice, which also crept slowly from the crack between the wood and the floor. He'd twisted the doorknob, slowly easing the large slab open, not sure what he'd find on the other side. But when he'd opened the door, nothing was out of place. There was just Anna and Elsa, smiling awkwardly. So when he'd walked up to his Queen, her face flushed, undoubtedly because of their night spent together, and kissed her gently on the lips, he was genuinely surprised to see both girls break out in tears and run away in opposite directions.
