Sam was sitting at the library table reading about vast spells, but couldn't find much that affected more than three hundred people, and none that effected angels.

"You really think the spell that Metatron used is gonna be in some dusty book?"

Sam raised his eye brows at Cas; that wasn't something he'd normally say. Cas took a swig of the beer he was holding.

"Cas are you drunk?" Sam asked

"Yeah, probably"

After shooing drunken Cas to bed Sam sat down.

Sam wasn't sure how he felt about his wings. At first they were a nuisance unbalancing him and bumping into things; Sam accidentally unfolded them once and they knocked over things from the other side of the room, which looked weird since they were still invisible. Luckily Dean wasn't there and while Sam was working tirelessly to fold his wings back up Cas came around and helped him, Sam was very grateful. His wings were very sensitive and Sam couldn't lean back on anything. Sam realized that other angels never had this problem so he approached Cas about it when Dean was gone.

Sam wasn't being secretive from Dean he just knew it made Dean uncomfortable and Sam didn't want to deal with it. Cas assured Sam that his wings would get less sensitive over time.

Which was good because Sam was sure Dean was getting weirded out by the way he sat of the couch.

Sam walked into the living room and looked at his wing marks in the floor. Sam's wings really ached, they were stiff and sore and Sam really wanted to stretch them out but he wasn't sure he could fold them back up. But they hurt. Sam looked at the time 2:41 he figured he had enough time to wrestle his wings back to place.

Sam let his wings start to fall and lifted them up. They were huge. Sam stretched his wings up and sighed; it felt so nice. The long end feathers stretched up and Sam moved his wing blades up and down. Sam moved his wings back and forth a little creating a breeze and knocked something over. Oops Sam thought but was hardly worried about it until he heard a voice from behind him, "uh Sam?"

Sam swirled around startled and his wings swirled with him.

Dean got up to get a drink of water, or beer, beer is good. Dean crawled out of bed and walked to the entry way and stopped when he saw Sam standing in between the kitchen and TV room stretching... his back? Dean watched Sam move his shoulders, confused. Suddenly books decided to fall off their shelves on the other side of the room. Dean looked at Sam then back at the books and said "uh Sam?"

Apparently not a good idea; Sam whipped around to face him and a blow of air came with him while things on either side of Sam decided to fall and crash. Sam cringed. He looked up at Dean. Dean starred at his brother waiting for an explanation.

Sam, red faced, cleared his throat, "uh, my wings" Sam's arms gestured up to his sides. Dean's eyes rose and he peered behind Sam's shoulders. Dean stepped back in surprise when he saw the air behind Sam shimmer.

Sam looked like a kicked dog and he wished he could quickly fold up his wings, "I- I, they just really hurt they were all cramped up I couldn't stand it" Sam apologized

Dean realized he must've looked really disapproving and he felt a pang if guilt hit him.

"Hey it's all cool" Dean said and walked up to Sam. Dean reached his hand out towards the shimmering air and Sam flinched. Dean looked at Sam a bit confused, "can I touch them?"

"Uh yeah" Sam laughed nervously "they're just really sensitive"

Dean nodded and his fingers reached over and felt the current of air that was apparently Sam's wings. Sam. Wings. Angel. Dean really needed to wrap his head around this.

Dean looked at Sam, "sensitive? Like does this hurt?"

Sam shook his head "it's just uncomfortable. Cas says it will get better though"

Dean retracted his fingers. He didn't realize how good it felt to talk to Sam about this, he had been avoiding the topic because he was uncomfortable with the whole thing but now he realized that his silence was hurting Sam. He hadn't thought how much this could be freaking Sam out too. More guilt. Dean knew Sam just needed someone to talk to.

"Can you like make them visible?" Dean asked

Sam's eye brows rose, "well I haven't tried" Sam closed his eyes and tried. He wasn't really sure what he was doing, it was like using muscles he never knew he had. Sam's face scrunched up and Dean felt a rising concern. Sam strained and then Deans eyes widened as feathers slowly showed, coming from Sam's shoulders, the wings appeared from Sam's back to the tip of his wings.

Dean gawked and Sam grunted still concentrating, the massive Wings slowly becoming more visible. Their color was mesmerizing; a dark golden bronze that tinted green as the feathers moved. They shimmered and were very intimidating. Finally they were fully reviled. Dean couldn't tear his eyes away, he felt so small they really were huge reaching almost to the top of the bunker. Now it was easy to see how they knocked down the books and everything else. Dean's thoughts couldn't be fully formed; all he could think was beautiful, powerful, immense. Dean was vaguely aware he was a bit frightened of the elegant wings. As they moved the green tint rippled through them and the dark bronze would flash gold. Dean would've starred at them forever if Sam hadn't grunted in discomfort.

Dean tore his eyes away to look at Sam, "Sam?" he said softly as if speaking to loud would upset the wings, "can you see them? They're so beautiful" When Dean didn't get an answer he looked at Sam again and realized Sam was in concentrating really hard and his brow was squeezing in what could only be pain. Dean placed a hand on Sam's shoulder, "Hey, hey you okay?" Dean asked. The long end feathers of Sam's right wing brushed against the wall and Sam gasped and both of his hands flew to Dean's shoulders.

"Dean" Sam breathed harshly

Dean now in panic mode replied, "Sam?! Sam hey what is wrong? Is it sensitive, you don't like it touching the wall?"

Sam's grip on Dean's shoulder tightened and he nodded quickly, "Way more" Sam took a sharp breath "Sensitive" Sam's wings were really sensitive when they were invisible, but exposed just the air felt like needles. As Sam could to handle the pain until they had touched the wall; Sam felt a searing hot pain rip through his body and made him nauseas and he grabbed his anchor.

"Okay, okay Sammy, it's okay can you turn them back, make them invisible?"

"I don't know!?" Sam gasped getting hysterical the sharp needles relentless.

Dean's heart thumped in his chest, "C-Cas!" he called and returned his focus to Sam's face. Placing a hand under Sam's chin "Hey Sam, you are alright, just look at me" Sam obeyed and raised his watery eyes to Deans.

"H-hurts" Sam sputtered, and Dean's heart fell and he became significantly more scared.

"Sammy, just concentrate, remember how you got them out? Well try doing the same thing"

Sam took a deep breath and Dean grunted as Sam's hands clenched his shoulders harder. After a few very long minutes Sam's massive shining wings started to disappear quickly. When the wing blades disappeared too Sam collapsed to the floor.

Cas stumbled in, "Someone call my name?"

Sam suddenly started laughing hysterically which earned him another concerned look from Dean and an eyebrow raise form Cas.

"s-sorry" Sam giggled "It's just my wings are stuck and the most knowledgeable person in the room is hung-over"

Now Cas got an eyebrow raise form Dean. Dean shook his head one problem at a time, "Cas can you help me with Sam's wings?"

"Oh yeah, look" Cas pointed at the air shimmers, "They're out, okay sure"

Dean dragged a hand down his face. A half an hour later after Cas instructing Sam how to fold them back up Sam was laying on his stomach on the couch resting, while Dean took away a beer from Cas. Another day in the life.

Sam felt better that morning and Dean and Cas did too after a few more hours of sleep. The group sat around the table as Dean severed eggs. Sam could eat now, he obviously didn't need to but it didn't hurt either. Sometimes Sam would eat just to make Dean feel better, give him some normalcy. Cas, on the other hand, ate too fast most the time.

"Hey, Cas slow down" Dean said as Cas seemed to be attempting to choke himself with scrambled eggs and hash browns.

Sam chuckled as Cas hardly slowed and looked at Dean,"Well it's your fault for making the food decent" Dean smiled, that's right my food tastes great he thought.

Cas swallowed and nodded, "too bad you can't taste it Sam" Sam shrugged good naturedly reaching over his laptop to take a bite. Dean was surprised to hear that Sam couldn't taste thing and felt a bit out of the loop.

"I don't know" Sam said while chewing "I mean I can taste it, it's just the taste doesn't make a difference"

Dean looked at Sam, "The taste- What?"

Sam thought for a second to better explain it to his brother, "So I can kinda remember what it tastes like and I can smell it" Dean nodded and Sam continued "and I can vaguely taste it too, it's just that my taste buds are indifferent"

Cas came in, "Yeah, that's how I remember it"

Dean nodded thinking he kinda got it, "So Sam… how are your wings?"

Sam beamed Dean wanted to know about his angel stuff, "They're fine, I mean they felt a lot better once I got them invisible again."

Cas sudden spat out his coffee, "Wait your wings- you manifested them?!"

Sam, startled looks at Dean before answering, "Uh yeah, it hurt"

"Can you even do that?!" Cas asked loudly almost to himself and Sam and Dean exchanged another look, Cas turned to elaborate, "You are only supposed to be able to show your wings when you are at a very high level of power as well as being mature in age, and Sam you barley became an angel!"

Sam swallowed and avoided Deans eyes, "I-I don't know, maybe my years as being human count?"

Cas shook his head, "Even if that were true it usually take s at least three hundred years"

"Is it supposed to hurt?" Dean asked fearful

"Yeah" Cas said and Dean, as well as Sam, let out a breath of relief, "The first time hurts a lot. The times after that are significantly better" Cas paused for a moment before looking at Sam wistfully, "What did they look like"

Dean smiled to Sam's surprise, "I'm not really sure" Sam said and Dean cut in,

"They were- are a golden color and also some green, they are kinda stunning" Dean admitted and Sam smiled

"What color were yours Cas?" Sam asked

Cas suddenly looked sad and Sam wished he didn't say anything, "They were a deep black" Cas said softly "I'm going to go take a shower" Cas announced and got up.

After Cas left Dean looked at Sam, "Hey Sammy, I'm sorry I may have been a little" Dean paused to think of the right word, "avoiding, I mean I didn't want to face the fact that you were changing, but that was stupid because your body or whatever might be changing, but you're still you, even with giant freaken wings"

Sam smirked but he was relived Dean didn't care that he was an angel and a weight lifted off Sam's shoulders, "It's Cool, I know how you feel; mean I hate it" Sam replied and Dean gave him a look of surprise so Sam elaborated "At first I was really freaked out, everything is so different, I feel different inside, but I'm getting used to it and I think I'm going to be fine"

Dean nodded, "So what else is different about being an angel?"

Sam smiled and started talking.
