When Dan came to, he found himself in a chair. He would have panicked, but oddly, he found no restraints. "Welcome." Someone said. Dan stood up and looked around. "Where am I?" "You're in a secret facility in the North Atlantic. I am Dr. Fiona Brinnings. Your life will be forever changed from this point on." "So? Am I a prisoner here? How do I even know I can trust you?" Fiona smiled. "You're no prisoner, Daniel. You're our guest." "You have one of your guys hit me on the head with a stick, then kidnap me. Not a way to treat a guest, lady." Dan said, frowning. "Let's get to the point, shall we?" "Alright, fine. What do you want from me?" Fiona pointed to his neck. "Your necklace. Your father said it was a family heirloom." Dan was confused. "How-how do you know about this?" "I work for a secret organization called the Order of the Wing, which has existed ever since the Viking era. I've been watching you for a while now. I know you have questions, but let's save them for later." Dan had to agree. "Okay. I got this for my fifteenth birthday. I think this went back a thousand years or so. And after I got it, I began to have… dreams. Strange dreams. In them, I see… fire… a young woman in blue armor… winged creatures with men on their backs… and someone in red-black armor. I think these dreams… mean something to me. But what?" Fiona smiled. "Here, you will find the answer. Let me ask you this. Do you know someone by the name Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III?" Dan froze for a second. "That- that's the stupidest name I've ever heard!" Fiona shook her head. "Too bad. You should know him." "How should I?" She pressed a button and an image of a family tree appeared. "He's dead. But he had a great life. He was a living legend back in his time." Dan examined the family tree. It said that Hiccup was born in 820 A.D. and had died around 930 A.D. Based on the looks of his wife, Astrid, he must have been lucky to have a family with her. Fiona scrolled down and Dan saw Hiccup's children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. As Fiona kept scrolling, the names Dan saw began to get more and more familiar. Then, at the bottom of the tree, Dan saw something that shot through his heart like a bullet. Something that would change his life forever. It was his own name.

Dan felt the room spin around him. In shock, he clutched his forehead, begging this to be all a dream. "What… How… I can't… It's not…" "Oh, but it is. You, Daniel Hockad, are the living descendant of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. How lucky are you." Dan was starting to freak out. "This can't be happening to me! How… how am I related to someone with a ridiculous name?" "Calm down now. You're not alone. Five others have been selected for their bloodlines. More than eleven hundred years ago, a team of six people was formed. These were the Dragon Riders, which included your ancestor. Together, they were unstoppable, but death found them. Their legacy now lives on through their blood. Your blood. Now, you and these five others will be united once more. And only together can you finish what your ancestors have started."

As Dan exited the room, his head still spinning, he noticed five other young adults looking at him. They seemed just as shocked as he was. These must be the descendants of the other Riders Hiccup had led. Among them he noticed… "Fred? What are you doing here, buddy?" "I could ask you the same thing. Just… this is crazy, man. I can't be… this is all just too much." Dan then noticed a girl who had one hand on her face. If he remembered from the family tree, this was Val. His half-sister. "Um… hey." She looked up. "Uh… I've probably seen you at the library before. I'm Dan, by the way." He held out his hand. Val didn't take it. "Oh god, this can't be real." She whispered. "Well, it is. No matter how much of us think it isn't." A young man in red, followed by a boy and a girl staring at each other, came up to him. "So… I'm Ben. This is John and Julie. You must be Dan." They were all in shock. So, they were a team now? None of them even knew each other? How were they going to "finish what they started"?
