Attack and Betrayal (part 2)

Hal wanted to kill the Nightmare looking alien, he never felt such anger before, but seeing the smirk on the alien's face made him see red. A noise caused the Nightmare alien to turn away, and Hal saw who had distracted him. Abal had entered the room, and in her hand was a white cloth covered in blood. She approached the cage with that held Waseem prisoner. She kneeled in front of her husband, and Hal noticed that she had the same blank stare that she had before she executed her own son. Hal still could not fathom that a mother would kill her own son, especially since he had been her only surviving child.

"I thought you would like to have this." Abal told Waseem. "It is that last thing of our son that exists in the living world."

Abal opened the blood soaked cloth, and Hal could see Razer's Blue Lantern ring inside. Waseem stared at the cloth and ring in shock, and Hal saw tears rolling down his face. The blue ring rose from the cloth, and began to float away. Hal never got to see where it went to, because something snapped in Waseem, causing the old man to grab his wife by the neck.

"How could you, he was our son!" Waseem shouted, with tears flowing down his face.

Abal, Hal noticed, did not attempt to fight back or struggle. The other Red Lanterns came over and pulled his hands off of Abal's neck. Once Waseem was forced back by the other Red Lanterns, Hal saw him collapse on to the floor of his cage. The shaking of Waseem's shoulders and the way he huddled himself in the corner showed that he was crying. Abal leaned down, and placed the bloodied cloth next to Waseem's hand.

"Razer did not feel any pain." Abal told him. "I slit his throat, and he was unconscious the entire time."

Waseem ignored her, and Abal stood up and went to the center throne. Hal glanced over at Waseem, and was shocked to see that the man seemed to have aged ten years in the last few hours. Abal turned to face the prisoners and addressed them.

"I have decided that you have all not taken me seriously, so I propose that we carry out more executions." Abal told them.

Hal noticed that the rest of the Red Lanterns look at her with eager grins.

"I have decided that the next group to be executed will be your children, and the girl Aya."

Abal signaled for the rebel Volkregians to get the children and Aya. Yasir and Zarina were among the parents that fought back against the rebels to protect their children. Aya was calm while she was taken from her prison; Hal wondered why she would be so calm about being killed. Eventually, the rebels subdued the parents, and pulled the children from their parents' protective embrace. Zaheer reached for his parents, but a sharp jab in his stomach from a rebel, caused him to lower his arms. Hal heard the men shout abuse and the women wail as their children were forcibly pulled away from them.

"Abal! Why are you doing this to us!?" Zarina wailed.

Abal ignored her, and had the rebels escort the children and Aya to where she had executed Razer.

"Can we watch the execution this time?" The Nightmare alien asked her.

"We Volkregians have very strict traditions, and all of you will violate those traditions, so I request that you stay here while my people and I carry out those traditions." Abal told him.

Nightmare alien studied her face.

"Fine, but leave some of your people here." He told her.

"Very well, if that is what you wish." Abal replied.

Abal signaled for some of the rebels to stay in the area. The other rebels escorted the children and Aya into the same area that Razer was taken in before he was executed. The Nightmare alien, the succubus alien, the incubus alien, the four armed alien, and the four aliens from the same planet all watched them as they left. After they left, Nightmare alien turned towards the other rebel Volkregians.

"I want you to torture the prisoners." Nightmare alien commanded.

A young Volkregian, who Hal thought appeared to be twenty four, walked over to him.

"We only listen to Lady Abal, and she has commanded us to leave the prisoners alone." The young male told him.

The Nightmare alien was going to attack him, but was stopped by a voice.

"It would not be wise to attack your allies."

The Nightmare alien turned around, and spotted Abal.

"Lady Abal, it is not what it looks like." Nightmare alien began.

Abal cut him off.

"Save it, I have returned to execute the Green Lanterns, bring them to me will you."

"Don't you have to still execute the children and that Aya girl?" Nightmare asked.

"Yes, but I want to get rid of all hope our prisoners have by taking care of the Green Lanterns, the children , and Aya in one fell swoop." Abal explained.

The Nightmare alien's face broke into a grin, revealing shark teeth. Nightmare signaled for the four armed alien and the four aliens from the same planet to help him. The four armed alien and the four aliens from the same planet dragged the bound Kilowog out of the cell and Nightmare dragged Hal out.

"Leave them where I tell you, and then leave them all to my allies and myself." Abal commanded them.

"Don't you trust us?" Nightmare sneered.

"Of course, but I believe that they should get a sacred Volkregian death like the others, which means that you are not allowed to come, because your presence will disturb their passing."

Nightmare looked at her with a frown on his face.

"Very well, we will play by your rules." Nightmare told her.

"Look, can we talk about this?" Hal asked.

"Move Green Lantern." Abal told him.

"You'll never survive this? The Red Lanterns will betray you!"

Abal glared at him, but then leaned in to whisper.

"I do not plan to make it out of here alive."

Hal's eyes widened in shock, but before he could say anything, Kilowog and he were thrown into a room. The four armed alien, the four aliens from the same planet, and Night mare left soon after throwing them in the room. Before Hal got his bearings, Abal removed the material binding both Kilowog and himself. After that both of them were ushered by Abal and the rebels into another room.

"Hello, Green Lantern Hal, Green Lantern Kilowog." A voice told them.

"Aya?" Hal gasped in shock.

"We thought Abal executed you and the kids, as well as Razer." Kilowog said.

Aya walked over to them, and Hal saw that her cuts wounds had been taken care of and she seemed to be in good health.

"What is going on?" Hal asked. "Where are Razer and the children? You executed them, didn't you?"

"Ha! Do you think I would have killed my last surviving child?" Abal asked Hal. "Razer and the children are safe, I had them drugged, and taken away from the immediate threat of the Red Lanterns."

"Razer and the kids are still alive?" Kilowog asked. "Where are they?"

"I will not say, in case some of my allies have been tempted by the Red Lanterns." Abal replied.

"Why did you attack Aya if you weren't a bad person, you hurt her!" Hal demanded.

"Keep your voice down!" Abal snapped. "That was mostly just a ruse, but I did get angry when I found out that she had noble hair."

"Well, you hit her in the face before you saw her hair." Hal pointed out.

"Yes, well, I wanted to see how tough she actually was, and since she did not fuss over facial wounds and cared more about me son, she passed." Abal replied.

"Come again?" Kilowog asked. "How did attacking her serve your goals?"

"Well, it showed those Red Lanterns that it would not be a good idea to mess with me, and the other thing is that when I grew up I was hit much worse in the face by idiots that wanted to abuse someone from the Dead Clan. Of course I brutally retaliated and put them in their place. I wanted to see how strong Aya was, my son loves her, but I wanted to see if she would be strong enough to protect him." Abal replied.

"You kicked her in the stomach." Hal pointed out.

"It only appeared that she did." Aya told them. "I am unharmed, besides the injuries on my face."

To confirm her claim, Aya lifted up her shirt to show them. Hal noticed that there was no evidence of a bruise or marking of any sort on her stomach. Aya let go of her shirt, and it covered her stomach once more.

"Okay, what is going on, and does Waseem know about it?" Hal demanded.

"Waseem does not know about it, he is a very emotional man, and if he found out that Razer was alive he would give it away through his moods." Abal replied.

"Could you just go back to the beginning to explain to us what your whole plan is?" Kilowog asked.

"Very well, I need you help so I will tell you." Abal began.

"Wait, before you continue, we want to see Razer so we know you are telling us the truth, and won't backstab us later on." Kilowog interrupted her.

"I like the way you think." Abal said with a smile. "Follow me."

Abal turned to look at two rebel Volkregian guards.

"Guard the doors; do not let anyone in here." Abal commanded.

"Yes Lady Abal." Both Volkregians replied.

After they left, Abal beckoned to Aya, Hal, and Kilowog to follow her.

"There is a chance that some of my allies of gone over to the Red Lanterns. So, I have more than one hiding spot in this place. Before you ask, my husband and I came here to learn all the safe passages located in the Elders house in case they were needed. Being married to a noble man allowed me to learn of them, and there are false passages to throw off our enemies." Abal told them as she opened a passage. "It is time to go through the right one."

Abal winked at him at that moment, before turning back to the passage. Abal opened it, and led the three of them down different passages, before coming to the part of the tunnel Hal would not have even noticed. She pulled a brick loose and a passage opened up. When Aya, Hal, and Kilowog followed Abal inside they noticed rows of blankets that contained Razer and the children. Aya, Hal, and Kilowog rushed over to Razer. He was asleep, so he did not stir when they approached him, the rise and fall of his chest showed that he was alive. Relief flowed through Hal's body, his friend was not dead. Aya pulled Razer's head into her lap, and began to run her fingers through his hair.

"Now you can tell us what is going on." Kilowog told Abal.

Abal did not answer right away; she sat next to her son, and took Razer's hand into her own.

"Months before Razer came back to us the first time; I was in a bad state of mind. All my children were dead, and I came to the realization that my husband would die long before I did. I heard rumors that Lanterns existed, and we were told that they were threats to us. That became true one day, because a Red Lantern arrived and caused trouble on our planet, she had stirred trouble on our new planet, and almost caused another war. I killed her, and when I did her ring floated away. When Razer came, our people were still feeling the effects of the Red Lantern. I did not recognize my son at first, but I did recognize that he wore a ring. I associated all people earing rings, despite their color, were all horrible people. So, I attacked first, and asked questions later. After I had knocked the Lantern unconscious, I took off their hood, and recognized my son. After he recovered from my attack, he explained the different factors of Lanterns, even his own time as a Red Lantern.

Before the three of you came to our planet, our left over noble families wanted the planet to be ruled like it was on our old planet. I did not want that, and stirred some commoners and my allies into actions; we would rebel as the last resort, if there was no alternative. As this went on, a red ring came to me one day, Razer was back with the Blue Lanterns by that point, so he never saw me receive it. I pondered the red ring, but did not have the urge to wear such a depressing thing. Razer told me what it was like as a Red Lantern, and I did not want to become the Red Lantern. During that time, those other Red Lanterns came to the forest of this planet, they claimed to be following the ring, and I went out to meet them. They wanted to take over the planet right then and there, and I proposed a plan. I told them to come back later, because my son and his friends were going to come. They did not like my idea at first, but when I mentioned that a Blue Lantern and two Green Lanterns were coming, they deiced to listen. I bought my planet some time.

I learned from aliens passing through that there were Red Lanterns that had gone rogue, and were looking for a planet to take over. I had met these aliens, but to keep them off of the planet I could not inform anyone about their plans they had. A few days later the three of you arrived, and I told Waseem not to tell all of you about the rogue Red Lanterns. I used the ring to contact the rogue Red Lanterns, and I also used the ring to alert the Green Lanterns. Everything happened faster than I anticipated, so I had to work fast. After Razer told you about his siblings, I waited to speak with Aya. Razer had gone to bed before her, and I needed to alert someone in case I was unable to finish my own plans. I also told her that if she ever wanted to marry my son, she had to do something for me, and if she passed she had my respect and my blessing." Abal told them.

"Why the rebellion, and why drug Razer and the children?" Hal asked.

"It was the only way to protect the nobles. The rogue Red Lanterns wanted to kill the nobles, but I proposed that a rebellion would be more beneficial to all of us. I did not want the children or Razer to be hurt, so I demanded the other Red Lanterns to let me execute them. Instead of killing them, I had my allies drug them, so they would sleep through this event." Abal replied.

"We say blood on the cloth you gave Waseem." Hal pointed out.

"If you recall, that damn alien cut Razer's neck with that chain." Abal told him. "The blood came from me bandaging the room. After I showed the ring to my husband, the ring returned back to Razer, but I was fortunate that no one saw it return to him."

"Why are you doing this?" Kilowog interrupted.

"I plan to kill the rogue Red Lanterns, and protect my people." Abal replied.

"Let us help you." Kilowog told her.

"You already have, your presence brought those cowards out of hiding." Abal responded, then she paused. "However, you can help me by escaping."

Her eyes lit up.

"Yes, that's it." Abal said, slamming a fist into her palm. "You could be overcome by grief at seeing the body of Razer, and in your anger you attacked the rebels, and stole Razer's body. That will give me the perfect cover to kill those Red Lanterns."

"If it means that we can protect Razer than I will do anything for him." Aya spoke up.

"I like your thinking Abal." Kilowog commented.

Kilowog went over to Razer, and swung the unconscious Blue Lantern over his shoulder. Hal went over to Aya, she winked at him, and went limp in his arms. Abal led them away from the room that held the children, and after finding another secret room, gave them a signal. The signal was Abal donning a suit created by the ring itself. Kilowog nodded, and created a battering ram with his power and burst through the roof. Hal created a shield and followed Kilowog through the hole.

"The Green Lanterns have escaped!" Abal shouted.

Abal flew after Hal and Kilowog and attacked them. The rest of the Red Lanterns came to her aid. The four armed alien flew towards Hal, and Kilowog made a cannon with his powers and blasted her away. With all the Red Lanterns surrounding them, Hal saw that there was going to be some trouble Abal had not anticipated. Kilowog could not fight well with an unconscious Razer swung over his shoulder. Plus, Hal could not risk his cover by having Aya fight. He looked down, and saw her give him a questioning look, but he shook his head, he did not want blow Abal's cover. The Incubus and Succubus aliens closed in on them, but Hal saw a flash of red and both aliens were cut in half. Hal winced has they fell to the ground, and the red rings floated away.

"See what they've done!" Abal demanded. "The kill our Red Lantern brethren!"

The remaining six Red Lanterns surrounded Hal and Kilowog, the four armed alien got close to Razer to attack him, but before she could strike him Aya got to her first. Aya had pulled herself out Hal's arms, and grab the alien by what appeared to be hair and drag her down. The alien howled in pain as Aya scratched at her face, not letting go of the alien's hair. The same red light appeared and beheaded the alien. The red ring floated away from the corpse, and Aya was left slightly stunned at the sudden turn of events.

"I thought you killed them!" The Nightmare alien yelled at Abal.

"They fought back, they saw the dead Blue Lantern and the children, and attacked me. They saved their friend and stole the Blue Lantern's body from me!" Abal yelled back.

"I have a feeling you are not telling me everything, but we will get to that once we finish off these Lanterns." Nightmare growled.

Hal really hoped that Nightmare did not figure out it was Abal that killed three of the rogue Red Lanterns. Hal flew down to grab Aya, and once he had her in his arms again, followed Kilowog to the throne room. Abal and Nightmare chased after them as they attacked them. Abal's attacks looked real to all those who did not know her ruse, but Hal knew that she was just putting on a show. Kilowog and Hal flew into the room that held the nobles that held the nobles as prisoners.

"Seize them!" Abal called out to her rebels.

The rebel Volkregians aimed their weapons at Kilowog and Hal. This distracted the nobles, and they all stared at Kilowog and Hal. Waseem let out a cry of alarm and grief when he saw Razer slung over Kilowog's shoulder. The four aliens from the same planet attacked as one, and Hal shifted Aya in his arms so that he could put up a shield for them, as Kilowog went on the offensive. Abal and Nightmare joined the fight.

"Capture those Lanterns!" Nightmare told the four aliens.

Out of the corner of his eye, Hal saw Abal aim an attack at the four aliens as they closed in on Kilowog and himself. Hal felt a chill go down his spine when he saw Nightmare catch on to her intentions. Nightmare used his own powers and ripped a chunk out of her side. Abal howled in pain as she hit the ground.

"I knew you were going to betray me, it was only a matter of time." Nightmare growled.

"Took you long enough to figure out." Abal mocked from her position on the floor.

Abal was in pain, she clutched her side, which was bleeding profusely.

"Hal let my help her." Aya said.

Hal and Kilowog were still being attacked by the four Red Lanterns, but seeing the determination in Aya's eyes, he let her go. Aya landed on the floor in a crouch, and ran to Abal's side. Hal was able to focus fully the fight, but it was not really needed. Abal's rebels had shifted from Hal and Kilowog, and focused on the Red Lanterns. A male and female rebel worked together to drag down one of the four aliens from the same planet. Hal looked away as they pounced on the alien and killed him.

"Jordon, we need to get the nobles out of here." Kilowog told him.

Kilowog went to land, but the remaining aliens from the same planet surrounded him. Nightmare joined them, and Hal quickly looked back to see if Abal and Aya were still alive. To his relief they were. Abal was glaring after Nightmare while clutching her side, which was saturated with blood. Hal spotted blood coming out of her mouth as well. Kilowog and Hal stopped in their tracks, and the rebels watched the scene unfold in front of them. The Lanterns had all flown to where the rebels could not reach them. Hal also saw the nobles and Elders watching them from their cages.

"Give us the Blue Lantern." Nightmare snarled. "Abal will pay for her betrayal by losing her son for real."

Waseem heard them, because Hal heard him plead from his cage to leave Razer alone. Nightmare ignored him, and flew closer to Kilowog, which caused Kilowog to clutch tighter to Razer. Hal could see anger rise in Nightmare's face as he lunged at Kilowog with a red whip in his hands.

"Do not touch him!" Abal screamed.

Hal was shoved to the side as the injured Abal flew past him. She killed the three aliens from the same planet as she flew past. She slammed into Nightmare, and the two of them fell to the floor in a whirl of red magic and blood. Kilowog landed on the ground, and moved to help her, but was stopped by one of the rebels.

"Get the children and return them to their families, we will help Lady Abal." The rebel told Kilowog.

The rebels went to help Abal, but were stopped by Abal herself.

"This is my fight, protect the prisoners!" Abal commanded.

Kilowog gave Razer over to Hal while he went to go fetch the children. Hal could see that Kilowog wanted to help Abal, but the rebel's words had gotten to him. Kilowog went to get the children, and some rebels went with him. Hal watched as Abal and Nightmare broke apart, and he could see the damage that they had done to each other. He wanted to help, but he was holding an unconscious Razer in his arms. Hal also spotted some rebels and Aya releasing the prisoners as the fight between Abal and Nightmare took place.

"W-what is g-going o-on?" A weary voice asked.

Hal looked down and saw Razer awake and looking around himself in confusion. Before Hal could answer, Waseem ran over and pulled Razer out of Hal's arm and hugged him to his chest. Hal could see the confusion in Razer's eyes while Waseem sobbed into his son's hair. A crash caused Hal to turn his head around, and caused Waseem to look up. Nightmare had Abal pinned on the other side of the room, and he was crushing her head with his foot. Abal reached up and used the power from her ring to break Nightmare's ankle. Nightmare howled in pain as his ankle broke, and he pulled away from Abal. Hal saw Abal get to her feet and lunge at Nightmare.

"Mother!" Razer shouted.

"Abal!" Waseem yelled.

Hal's jaw dropped, Nightmare had taken a dagger out and stabbed Abal in the stomach. Abal had her own dagger digging into Nightmare's neck. Both combatants staggered away from each other, and Hal saw Nightmare crumble to the ground dead. Abal staggered back and fell against the largest throne in the Elder's house. Waseem and Razer ran to her side. Waseem gathered Abal into his arms, and gazed into her eyes. Razer sat next to his parents, and grabbed Abal's hand into his own. The rebels, the Elders, and the nobles stared at them. Yasir and Zarina forced their way to the front.

"Abal, open your eyes!" Waseem begged. "I forgive you, all the things you've done, and I forgive you, just open your eyes."

Abal eyes remained closed.

"Why should we care for her?" Yasir demanded. "Look what she did!"

"She protected you all, you ungrateful brat." Kilowog's voice broke through.

Hal whirled around and saw Kilowog and some of the rebels, behind them were the children of the noble families, who looked like they had just woken up.

"Zaheer!" Zarina yelled in relief, as she gathered her son into her arms and cover his face with kisses.

"Abal tried to protect this planet, she went about it the wrong way, but you are all alive because of her." Kilowog told them.

Waseem had heard what Kilowog had said, and he turned back to his wife.

"My beautiful brave stupid girl." Waseem said, with tears in his eyes. "Why could you not tell me your plans, I would have understood."

"You know how mother is." Razer told his father. "She likes to take the world on to her shoulders, and not ask for help."

"Someone help Abal!" Yasir shouted. "We have to help her!"

Some of the rebels came over to help Abal with her wounds. The entire time Abal did not wake up, and Hal feared the worse. Razer and Waseem did not seem like they wanted to acknowledge that Abal could be dead. Waseem leaned in and gave his wife a kiss on her lips, and Hal hoped that it would not be the last kiss the two would share.

"Mom, what is that?" Zaheer questioned.

Zaheer's voice broke through Hal's thoughts and caused everyone, except Waseem and Razer, to look up. Hal saw three rings enter the room, two green rings and one blue one. Hal felt his jaw drop, the rings only meant that there would be two Green Lanterns and one Blue Lantern born today. Hal saw one ring go to Aya, and Hal could see the shock and joy in her face as she received her ring. The remaining green ring and the blue ring floated in the other direction. Hal was taken by shock when the green ring fell onto Abal's chest and caused the red ring to fall from her hand. Hal had never seen anything like that happen, so he was not sure if that was natural. The blue ring floated over to Waseem. Abal finally opened her eyes.

"Waseem, is everyone safe?" Abal asked, between gasps of breath and blood.

"Everyone is fine my love." Waseem answered her.

"Don't worry about me, my love, I am fine." Abal told Waseem.

Abal fell back asleep with a smile on her face.

"Get her to the infirmary!" Yasir commanded. "We must tend to the new Green Lantern's wounds."

As Abal was lifted up and taken to the infirmary, Waseem placed the green ring on her ring finger. Waseem placed his own ring on his ring finger as well. Waseem followed the group that carried his wife to the infirmary. Razer watched them go, and then walked over to Kilowog, Hal, and Aya.

"My mother's wounds do not appear fatal." Razer told them. "She will recover."

"That's great Razer. I am really glad." Hal replied. "What are the Elders and nobles going to do with the rebels and the government system?"

"I guess they will get to that in due time." Razer replied. "Right now we are recovering from the Red Lantern attack."

"There is also the fact that your mother and father are now the members of the Green Lanterns and the Blue Lanterns." Aya piped up. "I am now a member of the Green Lanterns myself, something that I have always wanted to be."

Hal saw a small smile break out on Razer's face as he embraced Aya.

"I am glad." Razer replied.

Aya stood on her tip toes and gently kissed Razer on the lips.

"I am glad that we were reunited, and that despite the snags we have encountered along away, we are all together again." Aya told him.

"You are right Aya." Razer replied. "When my mother recovers, I want to make her understand I want to be with you forever."

Kilowog seemed to catch on to something, and a large smile crossed his face.

"I have been looking at the customs on Hal's planet, and I have traveled far and wide for this, and now since I finally found you I want to ask you something." Razer told her.

When Razer went down on one knee and pull out a small box, Hal made the connection, and he broke out into his own grin.

"Aya, will you due me the honor of becoming my wife?" Razer asked as he held opened the box.

Inside the box was a beautiful ring, the stone and the band itself were made out material that Hal had never seen before, and when Kilowog let out a impressed whistle Hal knew that it was a nice ring.

"I will Razer, I am most honored to become your wife." Aya told Razer.

"When my mother recovers and all the trouble has been taken care of we will be married as husband and wife." Razer told her.

He put the ring on Aya's ring finger and gazed into her eyes.

"Congratulations!" Kilowog shouted, pulling the two of them into an embrace.

Kilowog let go of the two of them, and Hal came over.

"Take care of her Razer." Hal told Razer as he patted him on the shoulder. "Aya, if he makes you cry he'll have to answer to me."

Aya smiled at him, and Razer rolled his eyes.

"Come on, we have Green Lantern things to do." Kilowog told them. "Reporting to Appa, helping out with the damage, helping the rebels so they don't get thrown in jail, etcetera." Kilowog told them.

Kilowog left the building, and Hal followed after him, behind him Razer and Aya trailed behind holding each other's hands.

To Be Continued…

Note: If I plan it well, there will be two chapters left of this story. The next chapter will deal with the full aftermath of this chapter. Sorry if this seemed rushed, I am not good with battle scenes, so they were not written very well. Thank you for reading and see you in the next chapter.
