Chapter 8
Paige blinked upon hearing noises in the room, and she opened her eyes and wiped the small drool from her mouth as she looked around the room.
Her eyes, after being rubbed by her fists, focused on Emily who was buttoning up her shirt passively while sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Oh, you're awake," Emily said, a small glance before getting up from the bed and picking her necklace from the bedside table. "It's only nine; we have a few hours until the luncheon."
Paige yawned, falling back on the bed.
Emily smiled at the sight. There was a crash sound all of a sudden, and Paige jolted up from the bed in shock.
"Uh wow..." Emily said as Paige jumped out from the sheets and that swimming toned, slim, sexy body grabbed scattered sweats and a shirt before running to see the problem.
Emily followed her, adjusting her shirt and descending the stairs which Paige decided to slide dangerously down the banister on.
"Rambo," Paige said with an exasperated voice and sighed at the toppled table, "You could have hurt yourself." She picked the puppy up and frowned, he was too cute to be mad at. "What am I going to do with you since I'm leaving soon?"
Emily held a giggle in at the sight of Paige talking to the dog. Eventually Paige decided to leave Rambo in one of her spare empty rooms, leaving food, water, and a few toys. That was what she did after heading back upstairs to shower and change for the day.
Emily waited in her car outside, as Paige came out wearing a blue polo shirt with tight jeans on as it showed off her figure amazingly.
Paige sat inside Emily's beloved Mercedes as they drove down the long driveway in the direction of Emily's house.
Paige waited in the car until Emily returned wearing a sundress; she couldn't help but drool over the sight of Emily in that dress. As Emily turned on the car to drive to the golf course; Paige couldn't help but fight the urge from taking Emily right here in the car.
"Paige, my mother. Mother, Paige."
Pam smiled as the girl bowed her head and flushed. Paige McCullers was not at all like she expected.
"Nice to m-meet you, Mrs. Fields..." the small stutter escaped Paige with a nervous smile. The woman in front of her was the wife of her coach. And she had married their daughter secretly.
Of course she as nervous.
"Call me Pam," she responded, noticing the surprise on Emily's face. After all, she rarely gave girls Emily dated permission to do so.
But Paige was so cute, and Pam loved cute.
Pam had thought this McCullers girl would be another model type, fake, stuck up, girl like Emily's usual. Instead, she had crossed out "fake" because of the obvious nervousness the girl showed compared to the stupid politeness she was used to, and she had even crossed out "stuck-up" because the girl had just smiled and chatted with a few of the waiters who busily worked during the event instead of treating them poorly like usual patrons.
She did not, however, cross out "model type" because McCullers could definitely be a model. In fact, she did model for a few of the Stanford sponsors.
Pam found herself actually instantly liking the girl; she was not the usual snobby girl. She was like Emily's opposite in so many ways, that maybe – just maybe – Emily had been serious about this "engaged to be engaged" crap.
"How did you two meet?" Pam asked during appetizers.
Paige and Emily were both very hungry, having not had any breakfast.
"A bar," Paige said with that cute flush, "I forget what one though..."
Emily decided to go with the flow, nodding as she added, "it was at Styles. The same night we went to the strip club."
Shooting her mother a grin and wink, Pam chuckled when Paige's face went really red and she looked down at her food in embarrassment. She still couldn't believe she had gone to a strip club.
Pam then frowned, "So you met five days ago?"
A nod from the cute tomato.
"You've only known each other for five days, Em? You already intend on engagement?"
Both girls' eyes went to the matching rings stuck on their left hands, Paige opted to add more food into her mouth and Emily simply nodded.
Pam narrowed her eyes, something was up...
"Paige….?"
"Caleb," Paige smiled, as she got up from her chair and ran towards the guy pulling him into a hug.
He laughed and smiled as Paige hugged him "So this is your new girlfriend?"
Paige flushed, "eh, yeah. Emily Fields, this is Caleb, and her mother Pam Fields."
"I know Pam and Emily, I'm dating Emily's dearest friend Hannah" Caleb reached over and kissed Emily and Pam on the cheek. He then turned to face Paige "So I take it you've seen Shana? She's here."
Paige frowned, "Shana?"
Realizing that Shana was a touchy subjected he nodded, changing the subject smoothly, "So your season starts in a month,"
Paige nodded.
"Are you both family?" Pam asked, "You look familiar."
"Oh," Caleb chuckled, "No, no, Paige and I have been best friend since the day we were born we are "Batman and Robin."
"Yup we were always together we even worked here in the golf course," Paige told Pam without shame.
Paige unknowingly went up in Pam's books. Far up.
Emily noticed familiar faces of some of the women, she had dated. They all seemed to be looking and whispering about her and Paige, causing her to feel extremely amused.
The one that stuck out above the others was Maya. Maya only came to this luncheon twice before as Emily's date, so she was obviously here with the person she left Emily for. Some wealthy entrepreneur whose name she failed to remember, but was curious to meet nonetheless. Her pride was still intact after all.
"Emily!"
Emily turned her attention away from trying to secretly scout Maya's new girl to that familiar voice of her best friend.
"Toby," she smiled as he approached with his charming grin, "It's been too long."
"Six days too long," Toby seemed surprisingly uncomfortable, which Emily found amusing.
"Last I heard, you told me you got the love of your life. Can I meet her?"
Toby's face paled then, and Emily frowned in worry. She noticed he was looking beyond her, and sure enough the angry countenance of one Stanford star player glared daggers at him.
Now Emily thought Paige was adorable and sweet, and she had never seen such hostility on the girl's face before. It was hot. Scary! She meant scary. It was scary. And still cute.
So Paige and Toby knew each other? Small world, Emily thought.
"Ah, McCullers," Toby coughed a bit, "fancy meeting you here..."
There was silence, and then a bubbly voice interrupted the circle.
"Toby, I-"
The busty, gorgeous, smiling woman suddenly stopped talking and stared dumbly before stuttering, "P-P-Paige?"
Paige turned her gaze to Shana, still clearly upset, and then she turned to Emily, "I'll go get us some drinks."
Emily nodded and then turned to the couple in front of her who both still looked uncomfortable.
"You must be Toby's girlfriend," Emily said with a smile, already having an idea about the relationship between two people.
"Yes, I'm Shana," she forced a smile at Emily.
"Hi. Shana," Emily said, starting to analyze her carefully.
This was Paige's ex. She was very beautiful, and for some strange reason Emily felt the need to get a little vengeance even though Toby was her best friend.
According to Paige who Emily knew wouldn't lie, these two had deceived her, so of course she was hurt. Emily felt a little protective of her new girl and opted to act what she knew Paige would never have the guts to because she was too sweet.
"Paige has told me so much about you," Emily smiled, "It's nice to finally meet you."
"Sh-she has?" Shana asked, obviously surprised. "Wait, you know Paige?"
"Ah yes, I'm surprised both of you haven't heard yet."
Pam had never seen Emily ever look disapproving of Toby before, those two were like twins.
"Toby," Pam smiled, clasping his arm, "Hasn't Emily told you about her new girlfriend?"
"Girlfriend?" both Shana and Toby said with obvious shock, turning to see Paige approach with two drinks and hand one to Emily who decided to take it to the next step.
"Yup," Emily accepted her drink and then made sure she was close to Paige and took her hand with a small squeeze, "Paige's my new girlfriend."
Their shock stayed and Emily noticed Paige blush a bit, flattered by her comfort.
There was a ring of a bell, and the guests started to part to their designate tables again as an auction started.
"Toby, call me later, okay? It was really nice to meet you Shana."
"What was that Emily?" Pam didn't bother hiding her curiosity of the earlier exchange.
Emily smirked, "Shana was Paige's girlfriend, and she cheated on Paige with Toby."
Pam loved drama, and she leaned a little closer to whisper, "I never thought Toby would do that..."
Emily nodded, whispering as well, "Paige never told me the details, she is still very sensitive about it. I think Shana and she were very close, they grew up together I believe."
"Did they?" Pam raised an eyebrow, "family friends?"
"No," Emily lowered voice a bit more, "They grew up in an orphanage together."
There was a small silence where they both felt pity, and looked quickly at Paige who chewed her food and pretended to listen to the blond woman beside her explain her hair style and touch her arm every two second she got.
Pam remembered hearing somewhere that McCullers was an orphan; she wondered what happened to the kind girl's parents.
"Inviting Paige over for the luncheon was genius!" Pam told Emily with glee over the phone, "We have seven more charity bonds linked with our company name now, the Hastings will be so mad!"
Emily rolled her eyes at her mother's continuous babble, she rarely got that excited but her rivalry with the Hastings had always been an exception.
After a few more minutes, her mother hung up and Emily was free to be alone, until her phone rung again. She cursed, answering without checking the ID, "Emily Fields speaking."
"Emily," her best friend greeted her.
"Toby," Emily said with a frown, "I'm disappointed in you."
"I know!" Toby tried to explain himself hurriedly, "please don't hang up and listen to me-"
"I'm listening," Emily got up and walked over to a bowl of sweets she had out.
"I told you about my ex Shana," he reasoned, "we dated when she was in middle school and were good friends but I had to go away to help my mother..."
"I remember," Emily smiled softly, the image of Toby crying on her lap like a little baby when he had to leave his friends because his mother.
"Yeah," Toby sighed, a sincere sadness in his voice, "When I came back last year, I just... you ever feel like your whole soul was taken by someone? Because Shana has that power over me. Whatever she wants I want to give."
"You love her," Emily reasoned. She had never felt that way about anyone before.
"You'll know what I mean," Toby offered, "and Shana and I were kind of drunk when we started making out..."
She understood the abilities of liquor too, considering she had – under the influence – married a stranger.
Sorry for the long wait and the crappy ending of this chapter but don't worry you will know more about Toby and Shana (which I find very ugly because as a couple they don't match….. I don't like Shana nor Toby so I was like let me pair them because I don't like them) And plus I could have had Spencer and Paige together and have Spencer cheat on Paige with Toby but no I wanted Spencer to be gay so she can be with Aria. I love me some Sparia. Also you guys now know that there is a rivalry between the Fields and Hastings. The funny thing is that Spencer doesn't know yet who Paige's new girlfriend/wife is…so when she finds out it will be a funny reaction. Also do not worry Wayne will appear and greet his star swimmer soon….Thank you and let me know what you guys think.
