HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! :D Here's a new shot for you ;)
Requested by: Phantom of Claw
Prompt:How about: Alec is going to the supermarket because it's either Taki's again or Isabelle cooking, and he runs into Magnus being extremely strange.
And Magnus can't get over the fact that Alec is doing something normal.
Author's Note: Because of the holidays, I've decided to make this in a Christmas setting! :D It was a great idea and I just had to write it as soon as I saw it! :D Great prompt ;) So yeah...I had fun writing it! :D And I really hope you like it ;)
I own nothing!
Christmas Eve was here and Alec found himself wondering down the hallways of the New York Institute. It was only himself and his siblings at home that year. It was their first Christmas without Max, and their parents had decided to busy themselves with work because it was too painful for them. So Robert and Maryse Lightwood found themselves in Idris for Christmas while their three children were left in New York.
For some reason, demon activity was never high during the holidays. Maybe it was because of the weather, it was too cold for even demons to come out of their burning hell. Or maybe it was a complete different reason. Whatever it was, the Shadowhunters were left with no work for the holidays. Which suited them just fine since they all had their own people they wanted to celebrate the party for. Jace had invited Clary to spend the holiday with them and Izzy had done the same with Simon. And Alec of course had invited Magnus. Clary's parents were out for their honeymoon, and Simon's mother still thought he was being possessed by a demon, so that left the teenagers with no one else to spend the holidays than their respective partners. Not that they were complaining. Not at all.
Alec walked inside the kitchen when he heard Jace and Izzy fighting in there. As soon as he opened the door he could smell that something was burning. That and the smoke that was coming off the oven.
"I was trying to make something for tonight's dinner" Izzy exclaimed
"How many times do we have to tell you that you can't cook?!" Jace cried pointing at the oven which was still smoking
"I can cook!" Izzy complained "And I was trying to cook something special since it's Christmas!"
"You were trying to kill us all with your terrible cooking!" Jace exclaimed "We're just going to order Taki's anyways"
"We're eating Taki's for Christmas?" Alec spoke making both of his siblings turn to look at him.
"Yeah…unless you want to die with what Izzy made" Jace said pointing at the oven once more.
Alec sighed turning towards the oven and noticing that it was, thankfully, off. He took what Izzy had been trying to cook out of it and threw it on the trash can. He then opened every window so the smoke would come out of the room.
"We still have a couple of hours until dinner" Alec spoke "I'll go buy something"
"What will you make?" Izzy asked "Maybe I can help!"
"No!" Jace cried
"I'll just buy some turkey, I guess" Alec shrugged "And you can help, Izzy, by making sure the Institute is in order by the time everyone arrives"
Alec walked out and towards his room. Once there, he changed his clothes to some that were more comfortable. He grabbed his coat and the scarf Magnus had gave him months ago and then took his phone and walked out of the Institute.
He made his way towards the closest mall. He made his way towards the Wallmart and started to look for things for tonight's dinner. He got the turkey. He chose a big one, since there would be visits at the Institute and he knew both Jace and Simon ate for two people each. He also got two boxes to make smashed potatoes, and some vegetables to make some salad. He picked an expensive looking white wine. He knew that technically, only Magnus could drink legally, but the others had have a fair share of alcohol in their lives, so he thought that some wine would do no damage. He also picked some soda just in case. He picked a box for turkey stuffing and then made his way to pay for the food.
He walked down the mall with the bags of food from Wallmart while trying to reach the exit so he could go back to the Institute. He, however, stopped as he walked past the huge Christmas tree that was in the middle of the mall. Izzy and Clary had set one in the Institute at the beginning of December, and while it wasn't as big as this one, it was still pretty impressive.
He, however, stopped because of the long line of kids and their parents that was just in front of the tree. There were kids of all ages, buzzing with excitement as they walked closer and closer towards the tree. Alec didn't understand what the big deal with the tree was. It wasn't as if it was the first tree they've seen, Alec thought. The kids' parents seemed to be more desperate than their kids, though. Some looked tired of standing there while others tried to look as excited as their kids. Curiosity took the best of Alec and he walked closer towards the line of people. He noticed a poster that said "Take a photo with Santa" and then he realized what all of it was about. The kids were going to take a photo with a man dressed as Santa.
It had been a long time since the last time Alec had seen one of those. Mostly because he avoided malls, specially for the holidays. But many years back, when Max had only been five years old, Alec had found himself walking through the mall trying to find something to buy his mother for Christmas. Max had insisted on coming with him, and then the little boy had seen Santa he had insisted on taking a photo. So Alec had been forced to take Max to take a photo with Santa.
Tears started to fill his eyes but he rapidly shook his head. He still had that photo in a small box under his bed. It was a good memory after all.
Alec was about to walk away from all the people when he heard his name being called. He looked around confused. Who could be calling him here?
"Alexander!" he turned to the front and his eyes met with Magnus.
He was taken back at the sight of his boyfriend, though. He expected to see the warlock doing some shopping, wearing one of his many flamboyant outfits. He did not expected to see the High Warlock of Brooklyn dressed as the mundane version of Santa Claus, or at least to Magnus's standards. He was wearing tight (almost skin-printed) red pants with knee-high black combat boots. He was also wearing a red coat like Santa's with a thick black leather belt. All of his clothes, of course, were filled with glitter. On top of his hair (which was, of course, spiked and filled with red and white glitter) he had a Santa hat.
"M-Magnus?" Alec asked looking at his boyfriend with wide eyes "By the angel…what are you doing?!"
"I'm Santa Claus!" Magnus said happily, putting up a pose to show off his outfit "Do you like it? I particularly think I look dashing!"
"You look…very festive" Alec said carefully, eying Magnus's outfit once more. He had learned the hard way to never say what he actually thought about his boyfriend's outfits, because it always ended with Magnus getting upset or offended.
"I knew someone would get it!" Magnus exclaimed grinning widely at the Shadowhunter "Those kids over there know nothing about Santa and fashion!" Magnus added glaring at the long line of kids waiting to take a photo "They refused to believe I was Santa…so they called someone else"
"It was probably the beard" Alex suggested with a shrug
"Perhaps" Magnus nodded and then rolled his eyes "But long white beards are so out of season"
"I bet they are" Alec chuckled shaking his head
"Anyways! Not that I don't love seeing you at the mall…but what are you doing here?" Magnus asked getting excited once more "Are you Christmas shopping?! What did you get me?"
"I'm not Christmas shopping, Mags" Alec said "And if I had been, I would never tell you what I got you"
"Awn" Magnus pouted and then looked at the bags on Alec's hands curiously "Then what do you have in there?"
"Oh…I came to buy some stuff for tonight's dinner" Alec said with a shrug "Izzy almost set the kitchen in fire and Jace wanted to get Taki's for Christmas dinner"
"Ew" Magnus commented "The turkey at Taki's is just awful"
"Exactly" Alec nodded and then moved his arms to get the attention back to the bags "So I decided to cook some real Christmas dinner"
"Wait! YOU are going to cook?" Magnus asked looking incredulously at the Shadowhunter "Since when can you cook? Let alone Christmas dinner?"
"Compared to my sister, I actually can make something that can be eaten" Alec answered frowning
"Oh don't me wrong, I bet you cook wonderfully darling" Magnus said smiling sweetly "But I just didn't know you could…why didn't you tell me?"
"Oh, well…I-I'm not that good, really" Alec answered blushing
"Nonsense! I bet you're a wonderful cook" Magnus said with a wave of his hand "It is just so…mundane! Alexander Lightwood cooking Christmas dinner! That's unheard of!"
"I-It…It really isn't a big deal" Alec mumbled looking down and trying to hide his scarlet cheeks.
Magnus smiled fondly at his boyfriend. He just looked so cute when he was nervous and blushing! It still surprised Magnus that his boyfriend (which knew next to nothing about mundane traditions and the way they lived) could actually cook! And that he was going to make something so out of character for him! Alec cooking Christmas dinner, it certainly brought some really interesting images to the warlock's head.
Magnus grinned then and leaned to kiss the Shadowhunter's cheek and then whisper in his ear.
"I can't wait until dinner"
