I'm so sorry that this chapter ttook so long to write. I had a lot of computer problems, and doing this over the phone is very confusing. I have rewritten some of the others chapters, so that they will flow better with the story. All but 7 have been rewritten, again I am so sorry for the delay.

With at that being said let's get on with the story.

Chapter 8: In The Dark

"Come on Lavi, you don't really believe that stuff do you?"

"Of course I do, Allen"

"Guys, I not sure this is such a good idea"

"Don't worry, Lenalee I won't make it too scary."

"Thanks Allen"

"Are all of you ready?" Lavi asked.

"Yes," says Allen.

"Yes," says Lenalee, a little uncertain.

"Yes" says Miranda, (she didn't even want to be here)

"Alright, let's get started," Lavi looks around. The four of them sat in a circle surrounding a lantern, which served as their only source of light. "So we'll do this clockwise, starting with Allen. So it we'll be Allen, Lenalee, and Miranda, and finally me." Lavi handed Allen a candle and matchbox.

"I'll go first I guess," Allen says, lighting the candle with a match. He blew out the match, and began. "On day a young boy went to see the circus for his eleventh birthday, he watched in awe as all the performers did their amazing tricks. His favorite were the acrobats, see jump into the air unafraid of the dangers below them.

"I wanna be an acrobat" the boy said as he left the circus tent.

"Oh you do?" Said a clown, the boy thought the clown looked scary and nodded quietly. "Don't be shy, I'll show you some tricks."

"What do you know about being an acrobat?" The boy asked skeptically.

"I used to be one, but being a clown much more. Come on I'll show you what it's like to be an acrobat." The clown took the boy into the tent where the performers practiced their routines.

"What is this boy doing back here?" Said one of the acrobats.

"This boy wants to be a acrobat, wanna help me show him the ropes?"

"Alright" said the acrobat, the boy felt a little more at ease with the acrobat around.

"They climbed the ladder, "now we'll show you a routine, then when I say jump, you jump okay?" The acrobat told the boy, and nodded his head in excitement.

"The clown and the acrobat performed a simple routine, the boy watched with glee. As he looked on he felt excited, that was until he look down. There was no net, and he was very high up. The boy took a step back to see to more acrobats standing behind him. With the darkness around them growing he could hardly make out their faces, except their smiles. Creepy, monstrous figures they resemble in the dark. The boy was so scared he ran of the platform that held them up, fell to the ground.

"The end" Allen whispered before he blew out the candle he was holding.

"I'm not sure if that was scary or sad" Lenalee admitted.

"That poor boy." Miranda said under her breath.

"Who's next?" Lavi says.

"What are you doing?"

"W-who said that?" Miranda asks, frightened that it didn't sound anyone around the lantern.

"I did," Kanda said lightly tapping Miranda's left shoulder.

She screams loudly, and gets up from where she was sitting.

"Calmed down Miranda, it's only Kanda." Lenalee tells her.

"We're telling scary stories, wanna join Yu?"

"What did you call me" Kanda said holding mugen up to Lavi's throat.

"Kanda! KANDA! I SAID KANDA!"

"I thought so," Kanda sheathed mugen, and sat down.

"What are you doing up so late?" Lenalee asks.

"Training, I was walking back to my room when I saw a light in the cafeteria." Kanda tells her.

"Why are you training so late?" Asks Miranda.

"To get stronger, why else?"

"Aren't you already very strong, why push your self so hard?"

"Okay, enough of this we're losing focus." Says Lavi before Kanda could answer.

"I guess, I'll go next." Lenalee said lighting the candle Allen handed her.

"Deep in the woods, a young girl just finished delivering cookies to her grandmother's house. It was rather dark outside, and would only get dark. Her grandmother insisted that she stay the night, but the girl said that she would be okay. Shortly after she left, it became very dark. She heard the sounds of the forest: the crickets chirping, the owls, wind the would rustle the trees.

"The young girl was almost home, when she heard a rustling in the bushes. 'Who's there?' The girl asked, shaking her lantern in front her. Nobody answered, the girl sighed and continued walking. After hears it several more times she shouts 'Who's there?' She held out her lantern.

"A tall figure steps into view, a middle-aged man with black and grey; and a five o"clock shadow. 'My, my a little girl like you shouldn't be out here all alone.' He told her in soft voice.

"She lowered her lantern, 'I am big enough to take care of myself. ' she told him.

"The man sighed, 'You know there are monsters out here? Big, scary one's with pointed teeth.' He worned.

"Then why are you out here?"

"You see I just moved here, and when hunting for dinner I seemed to have lost my way." The man turned to look at the darkness of the forest.

"Did you find anything to eat?"

"Yes, actually I have.

"Abigail? Abigail?" The girl's mother called her name. Usually she doesn't take so long getting back from her grandmother's house.

"I'm right here mother," the young girl called back.

"Oh good, you brought dinner. He's a lot bigger than the last one" she said as her daughter dragged the man through the door. His body filled with scratch marks, the Abigail smiled revealing her fangs." Lenalee blew out the candle. "The end"

"How you'd come up with a story like that Lenalee?" Lavi asked.

"I read it in a fairly tale" she told him.

"Last I checked, little red riding hood wasn't the werewolf."

Lenalee smiled brightly, "it wouldn't have been boring if I told you the normal tale."

"True, alright Miranda you're up."

Lenalee passed the matchbox and candle to Miranda. Miranda stared at the lit candle, as the flame steadily moved in a gentle quick motion. She was pondering which sort of story to tell.

"On the third of December." Miranda spoke eerily, her voice uncertain. "A husband and wife had just moved into town, with their nine year old son. They were relieved to find a nice apartment for such a cheap price. After they finished unpacking, and after they ate dinner they went to bed. The husband found it difficult to sleep, so he got up and went to the kitchen. From the corner of his eye he spotted his wife's figure standing in the the doorway. He put the glass in the sink 'don't worry Hun' I'll be right there' he called over his shoulder. When turned around and didn't see her, he figured she went back to the room. As he walked back to his room, he noticed his wife was asleep in the same position she had been in when he went to his drink. He look back in the hallway it looked like something moved in the darkness, but he passed it off as just his mind playing tricks on him.

"After waking up again and again, the man tried to let his mind wonder. His eyes looking around the room as if searching for another presence." Miranda's voice started to shake, as did her hands. She continued, "His eyes kept going back to the foot of the bed; which was across from the door. Again he kept his eyes wondered. After what felt like hours the man fell asleep.

"A thud at her foot the wife woke up, she looked at the foot of the bed and screamed. A little boy with dark circles under his eyes stared at her; his hands clasping the bed. Her husband nudged her shoulder 'honey, what's wrong?' she looked back at him then to the boy; who was gone. She tried to tell her husband, he had told her she just had a nightmare and to go back to bed.

"When they awoke the next morning, they discovered their son was missing. They looked all over, only to find him hiding in the bathroom with the light on. Tears filled his eyes, he couldn't form a complete sentence. He on managed to say or rather screamed 'stop staring at me!' his parents were very concerned and took him to see a specialist. So many times did they try to get him through the front door without a fight." Miranda looked lost as if she was recalling a memory. "He wasn't always like that, once he had been so polite and well behaved; but seemed like a long time ago. The mother would sleep in his room until he had fallen asleep.

"One night, the mother fell asleep while in her son's room. She woke up to her son missing and the boy from before across from the bed. All the neighbours woke up to her constant screaming, her husband came in the room to find his son gone. They looked all over this time having no luck finding him. He remained missing, but sometimes the mother would spend the night lying in his room on his bed. She stroke the boy's hair, as if he were her son." a tear fell down Miranda's eye as she blew out the candle.

"Miranda?" Lavi said in a hushed tone "Are you alright?"

She looked at him, and gave a silent nod. "I be okay"

"Did that really happen?" Allen asked.

"I believe so, the man and woman were my upstairs neighbours."

"And their son?" Kanda asked skeptically.

Miranda looked down at the floor, "I never seen their son," she told him sadly "but I do remember hearing him screaming."

"Lavi it's your turn." Lenalee pointed out, not wanting to hear anymore about the previous story.

"Who's there?" a voice called.

Lavi lit the candle, "Reever?"

Reever walked over to them, "what are doing up so late?"

"Telling scary stories, wanna join" Lavi said with a grin.

Reever held up his hand "I'll pass, you, Kanda, and Miranda have mission tomorrow. You'll debriefed in the morning so get some rest."

"Man, I didn't even get to tell my story." Lavi groaned.

The group walked back to their rooms. They were parting ways in the big hall. "Goodnight you guys," Allen said to others.

Lenalee followed Allen "Goodnight,"

"Goodnight, you two" Miranda called back, she eyed them suspiciously. As they held hands when they thought no one was looking. Miranda smiled to herself, as she caught up to Lavi and Kanda.

"Goodnight, Yu." Lavi said before receiving a punch in the arm. "Hey!"

"I told you not to call me that!" Kanda to him, he grabbed Lavi by the shirt.

Miranda giggled. Kanda looked at her with the death glare, "What's so funny?" he asked unamused.

"You act just like brothers, it's kind of adorable" she smiled.

Lavi pushed Kanda off him, and walked over to Miranda. "I'll say" he spoke softly, and kissed Miranda on the cheek. "Goodnight"

"Oh, um goodnight" Miranda just stood there blushing furious as she stumbled over her words. Human interaction not being one of her strong suits. She watched as Lavi walked away.

She looked back at Kanda, who had already gone to his room. "Goodnight"I'm so horribly sorry this took way too long. I have rewritten some of the other chapters, so that it flows better with the story. Again I'm so sorry.

With that said lets get on with it. I do not own D. Gray Man .
