Chapter 7: Done Rolling
Their meetings were never planned, in fact they had no idea how these meetings started. They would mostly hang out at the playground. They always sat by the swings. They hardly spoke with each other but only basked in the comforting silence which seems to surround them. Sometimes they would exchange words, whispered conversations that only they know about. Other times the older of the two would have more injuries that before and the younger would path him up.
After each meeting the blunette would escort the blonde home. Sometimes they would just simply part ways. Other times they would stop by to get some treats. And there were these rare occasions where the junior would follow his senior home before the older would force the other to go to his own home.
When the weather didn`t permit it, or when they felt like it, they would meet by the music room. The blue haired teen would play the piano and the blonde one would happily hum along. Other times the blonde would join the other in playing a piece. Sometimes the pianist would sing. Most of the time they would sit there basking on the magic that music brought them.
These meetings have become something that brought Kaito normalcy. It became a routine. They gave him something akin to stability. No matter how much his bullies torment him, how much he feels alone and how much pain he feels, these meetings seem to be making him smile a lot more. They became something he would anticipate. Something that made him feel more emotions than he usually did.
Today had been raining and so Kaito was walking towards the music room. Sometimes he wondered how the blonde knew each and every time he would go there. But then again they seem to know where the other would be waiting, as if a sixth sense. They never texted each other, even after they exchanged numbers, but still, somehow that type of communication wasn`t needed, only the presence of the other.
When Kaito arrived at his destination the blonde was already within. Len was seated by the piano, his teddy bear hugged tightly towards his body and the scarf he gave him was loosely wrapped around his neck. The blonde`s cerulean eyes twinkled and offered him a smile; Kaito couldn't help but smile back.
"Daijobu desu ka? the usual question used as a greeting.
"Daijobu desu yo." Was the blunette`s reply.
They didn`t exchanged words, the usually don`t. Kaito sat down beside the blonde. They sat in silence, basking in the comfort it gave them. Slowly Kaito brought his fingers towards the key of the piano and started to play. Len listened to the soft melody and hugged his bear closer. Kaito also had his eyes closed as his fingers dance on the keys, as if doing the waltz. The music was soft but sweet as if serenading his love.
Suddenly Kaito`s fingers sped up; he music going to a crescendo. His fingers were dancing the tango instead. Slowly Kaito opened his mouth and started to sing the song that has always connected him to life; the one song that described him for two years now. He kept singing, letting the emotions flow from his voice.
Music was wrapping itself around the pair, and notes were dancing in the air. The soft voice of the pianist was slowly engulfing the room. Everything became somewhat warmer and brighter. The once cold and lonely room felt different somehow, as if magic has drastically changed it. But the two occupants didn`t notice, they were engrossed on the presence of one another.
Kaito continued to play until the song was finished, his eyes still firmly shut. Len slowly opened his eyes and stared unto his sempai. Slowly he removed one hand from the teddy and grabbed the other`s larger hand. Kaito opened his eyes but didn't turn to him, not even when he felt a warm hand hold unto his cold ones.
"Are you all right now?" Len said "It's okay. You gradually became tired of it too, right?" he continued as he squeezed the other`s hand reassuringly.
Kaito shook his head, "Let`s go, I think the rain let up."
"Okay!" Len cheered, "I`ll go tell Kiyoteru-san so he doesn`t worry." Grabbing his teddy bear Len ran from the room.
Kaito smiled at the enthusiasm that seems to follow the blonde. He would admit he was a little jealous. The blonde, no matter how sad the events are, is still a bright ball of sun shine. The blunette stood and slung his bag unto his shoulder before walking from the room, a smile still gracing his face. His heart felt lighter than before. The world suddenly looked brighter whenever the blonde was around.
But the smile and happiness was short lived when someone slammed him to the wall.
"Well, well, well, look at that." Gakupo said as he sneered at Kaito. "Was that a smile on your face?"
The only female giggled, "Maybe it was the blondie that ran out of his hiding place."
Kaito`s face paled, his mind buzzing with worry. Would they hurt him? His mind kept repeating in head. He knew the three will always torment him, he accepted that but would they also go after the blonde? Kaito prayed that they wouldn`t, the other didn`t deserve it.
He accepted long ago that he can never be happy, that somehow his life will only crash before him. Everything hasn`t been going his way for two years, why would it start now. But he can`t let the blonde get dragged in his mess. His mind was buzzing and his hands were trembling, it was like that time two years ago when he was first bullied, he was feeling those emotions of fear, anxiety and dread but this time he wasn`t feeling them for himself, but for another reason.
He didn`t realized that the three were still taunting him until he felt a harsh punch to his stomach.
Akaito snickered, "Well I think the blonde looked adorable~" he said in a singsong voice, "Maybe I could get him to scream~ right Kaito~?" he taunted.
The jab brought him back from his self-pity. They will hurt Len. No, He won`t let that happen. He won`t let them lay a finger on the young teen. No, never, he will never allow them to hurt his precious blonde; Len had been the only thing that gave him stability. The younger teen had been the angel that guided him, that comforted him, that helped him, that stayed by his side. He won`t let those monsters taint the only pure thing in his world.
He will never allow them to destroy another precious thing in his life.
They will never taint his angel.
He will not allow it.
"SHUT UP!" He yelled suddenly, shocking his tormentors, "I`M TIRED OF YOUR SHIT!"
What shocked them more is when he sent a hard punch towards Akaito, hitting him harshly on the stomach, the read head doubled over in pain. Gakupo was next, Kaito grabbed the other`s collar and sent a punch straight to the face.
"Don`t touch him!" he hissed, "I won`t let you hurt someone precious to me."
What shocked the trio more was that Kaito was fighting back. But Kaito didn`t notice, he was too busy letting his emotions control him. The rage that seemed to have built up was slowly releasing itself. He felt hazy but the anger and adrenaline kept his mind clear. His mind was buzzing. He didn`t feel the punches or kicks he sent. He didn`t even hear as the only female was screaming in fright as he pounded on the other two.
But one thing is certain, Kaito was done. He was done letting them torment him. He was done letting everything crash down on his feet. He was done rolling over for them like some dog. No, he was going to fight back. He was going to stand up, if not for himself at least for Len.
He pulled back his arm ready to send another punch towards Akaito when suddenly something warm grabbed unto his arm. He stopped and the group used this distraction to run away with their tails between their legs. The two who were left just stood there, Len clutching unto Kaito`s arm. His ever present teddy bear hugged closely towards his chest. Slowly Kaito dropped his arm and Len let go. They didn`t exchanged words, neither moved, as if frozen in time.
Kaito could feel his knees trembling and then they buckled. He crashed to the floor. He let the haze slowly leave his mind. He didn`t move, he didn`t make a sound. He stared at nothing, staring only straight ahead. The buzzing in his mind was disappearing.
Suddenly something warm encircled his neck.
Suddenly yellow obscured his vision as Len hugged him gently.
"I got you…" the other whispered gently, "Let`s stop breathing together…"
He couldn`t stop himself, the tears started trailing down his face. The sobs started to slowly escape his lips. He clutched the younger male tightly. He let himself cry, something he has not permitted himself to do. He could finally feel his heart beating rapidly and his body trembling, but it didn't matter. All that mattered was that someone was comforting him, hugging him, crying with him. All that mattered was the blonde angel who was holding him tightly.
He finally realized that he had stopped rolling down the steep hill.
