"Ryuzaki my girlfriend just killed herself and you have the insensibility to arrest me?!"

"Yes."

"On what grounds!?"

"On the grounds that you are Kira."

Light lets out what sounds like a mixture of a scream and cry. His hair was disheveled from all the commotion that had just occurred, and dark circles were visible beneath his eyes. After the incident both L and Light had sprang to the balcony which revealed a chilling scene. Moments later Wateri had ran in and they all rushed to save the situation. L had watched as Light spilled tears over the blonde woman's body and how he tried to stop the blood with his bare hands, yelling out her name over and over. To an observer it would have seemed like a heartbroken man, trying desperately to save the woman he loved. To L it had looked like some overdramatize cheesy Hollywood movie scene.

"This is illegal! You have no evidence." Light yells, bring the detective's attention back to the current manner at hand. L merely blinks, popping a sugar cube between his lips as Wateri snapped the hand-cups on Light. Sparing a final look towards the detective, Wateri waits for L's nod of approval before dragging Light out of the room.

L says nothing as he watches them leave, Light's yells becoming softer the farther they get. It's silent for a while afterwards, and L is thankful for it, trying to process everything that had happened in the past hours. The sound of ringing breaks his concentration and the detective reaches over to grab one of his many cellphones.

"Yes?"

"Ryuzaki, its confirmed. Amane is dead."

For a few moments L stays quiet, millions of thoughts running through his mind like a mad train. He doesn't expect the guilt that suddenly forms at the pit of his stomach, and it actually causes him to push the plate of cake he was eating aside.

"I understand. Thank you Aizawa. You and Matsuda should return as soon as you finish manners over there."

"Understood."

Shutting the phone L turns his attention to the screen in the room playing the footage of what had unfolded hours ago. He had already watched and re-watched the video, and there was no mistake of what exactly had happened. Yet as he watched the two women begin what seemed to be an innocent conversation, L knew that the real question was why Amane had done it.

"He's right you know."

L doesn't turn to face Wateri who had entered the room again, looking ruffled and worn.

"L you really can't keep him in custody. This is technically illegal, we have no evidence linking that boy to anything." Wateri states.

"Are you scolding me old friend?"

Wateri releases a sigh, shaking his head at L's decision to once again downplay the severity of his actions.

"As soon as Chef Yagami gets here demanding the release of his son, I'll let Light go. For now, let him sit in that room." L answers.

"But why?" Wateri asks, genuinely bemused by what seems to be a senseless action on L's part.

L stays silent and to those unfamiliar with him, it would seem that the detective's expression had not changed. However Wateri saw the way his lower jaw clenched slightly and instantly knew the answer to his question. L was royally pissed off.

It made sense. A woman had just committed a major criminal offense in an area which was supposedly under L's watch and protection. Furthermore, the key suspect to the Second Kira now laid dead and unable to answer the many questions L still had. There was no solid evidence that came out of this event which could offer any support that Light Yagami was Kira and finally, Sakura had been dragged into the entire mess. Wateri silently wondered which of those factors upset L the most, but cleverly decided not to ask.

"Once Chef Yagami gets here, bring him to Light and allow the both of them to leave if they chose. Have Aizawa look over the recent death reports and see if there has been a change in the number of murders Kira has been committing. I want Matsuda to prepare a full report of Amane's behaviors, actions, anything that may have hinted to this and finally," L pauses for a moment, weighing his next words. "Tell Mogi to make any funeral preparations he feels fit for Amane." L finishes, a frown present on his lips.

"Yes sir, and if they ask about your whereabouts?" Wateri questions.

L grabs the still intact piece of cake that he had pushed aside earlier, before proceeding to head towards the door.

"Make something up. I have something else to deal with at the moment."

"Something or someone?"

Wateri heard the other give let out a low mumble before the door is loudly slammed behind him. Shaking his head once more, the older man hid his grin and began working on what he had been ordered.

The first thing she notices is a beeping, and the more aware she becomes of it, the louder and more obnoxious it becomes. What she notices immediately after is the burning pain and the more aware she becomes of it, the more agonizing it becomes. Trying to distract her body from the pain, Sakura instead tries to collect any memory of what landed her in this current situation. It has become also like a habit now, her trying to recall any scraps of memory that may be hidden in her unconscious. Fortunately this time her memory comes easier and she remembers the balcony and the gun that had been pulled on her. If it hadn't been for her instincts that had once again taken over, the bullet shot would have hit a fatal spot. Once again she was alive because her body remember something her mind did not.

Letting out a large breath, Sakura gently tries to open her eyes. Her vision blurs a bit before clearing and revealing that she was in a bed covered in a large amount of tubes and wires. Frowning she attempts to sit up, only to be stopped by the many wires and a shot of pain from her left abdominal area. Mumbling out a curse, Sakura tries once more to careful sit up and avoid the wires, only to again get caught in them. Fed up, and not wanting to be beaten by flimsy metal, she began ripping them off her body.

"I would refrain from doing that."

Sakura freezes upon hearing the voice and snaps her head in the direction of it, letting out a hiss as pain shots through her body again.

"I would also refrain from moving too much or all together."

Blinking away the tears that had gathered in her eyes, Sakura gently tilts her head to get a better look at the other person in the room. When she saw who it was, she let out a sigh of relieve.

"L its only you."

Walking closer to her side, L doesn't return the small smile Sakura offers him.

"Were you expecting someone else?" He asked.

The smile vanished off her lips and she tilts her head back, a dark shadow taking over her expression. "Half expected the crazy girl to come back and finish the job." She replies bitterly.

Sakura hears a ruffle as L suddenly appears back in her line of vision, extending his arm and offering her something he had pulled out from behind his back. It takes Sakura a few moments to realize he was offering her a piece of cake and she could help but let out a small laugh. L's response was only to blink back at the woman.

"I would, but it hurts to move and I rather you not feed it to me." She answers with a chuckle.

L nods and places the cake down on the small table besides the bed, surprising Sakura by not eating it like he normally would do. For a while both remain quiet, Sakura still in obvious pain and L collecting his thoughts. As the silences continues, Sakura moves her gaze back to L whose attention is locked on a pillow at the foot of her bed. She watches as his eyes flash with thoughts and images only he can see and Sakura wonders for the first time since meeting him, how L must feel.

Light had painted L out to be a heartless computer who felt no emotions and only concerned himself with affairs that either entertained or benefited him. He had told her that L was opposing Kira, not because he had any noble intentions, but because this was all a competition to him and L hated losing. Sakura remembers becoming angry at Light's words and wanting nothing more than to get rid of L in order to meet Kira. Back then she honestly believed Kira could help her, and even now she still clung to that small hope. However matters had become complicated when she had actually met L and all of Light's descriptions no longer seemed valid. L had offered to help her, he had succeeded in learning more about her abilities and skills and had painted a picture of the person she could have been. Of course, nothing was certain, but the longer Sakura spent time with the dark haired detective, the more difficult the mission to kill him was becoming. Although it might still be too soon to call L her friend, Sakura found that she enjoyed L's company and that she had become comfortable around him.

Shaking her head, Sakura decided to stop trying to analysis what those feelings meant and instead looked for a distraction.

"On second thought, hand over the cake. I really need to get the taste of blood out of my mouth."

L let out a small sound of approval, before reaching over and handing Sakura the plate he had brought. He watched as she wiggled around to find a comfortable position, before finally taking a bite. A smile broke out on her face as she continued to happily eat the sweet desert.

"I suspected something like this might happen." L stated in a soft tone, tearing his gaze from her and breaking the calm mood that had settled around them.

Sakura paused mid bite, a look of confusion appearing on her face. She watched as L raised a thumb to his lip, choosing to stare again at the foot of her bed. After it became apparent to her that he would not continue unless questioned, Sakura lowered her fork and asked "What do you mean by that L?"

L said nothing and for a moment Sakura thought he had not hear her question. After fixing him with another pointed look she prepared to ask once more, but was interrupted by L's attention suddenly snapping back to her.

"If Light Yagami is Kira then he would doubtfully want you dead. You represent a lose end that needs to be dealt with. So what better way for me to collect evidence against him, then to bring him into the same environment as you, presenting him with the opportunity to do just that. Therefore, you could say I had suspected something like this to happen. Actually, it would be more accurate to say I was certain something like this would happen."

Throughout his explanation Sakura had stayed eerily silent. Her eyes were locked on his face and although his expression revealed nothing, hers showed him exactly what she was thinking. Her eyes narrowed into slits and her lips had formed into a downward scowl. Her hand that had been hold the fork was clenched tightly around it, and her brows were pulled down in a piercing glare.

"It other words," Sakura began in a tone which revealed that she was speaking through clenched teeth "You wanted to see if Light would kill me."

L did not look intimidated by her current state, and continued to wear his blank expression. "I wanted to observe Kira's killing methods." He replied calmly.

Launching from the bed, Sakura stood to stand in front of L, flinching a bit from the pain, but ignoring it to instead glare viciously at the detective. For a quick instant a flash of worry appeared on L's face, but it was masked just as quickly as it appeared.

"You…" Sakura hissed out, fists still clenched at her sides. "Bastard! You gambled my life for evidence?! I could have died!" she yelled out.

"There were unexpected results, but-"

"You know damn well that's a fucken understatement!" She spits out.

L said nothing mentally trying to think of the best response to calm Sakura down. Yet he found it hard with the women hateful glare directed at him. Didn't she understand that he was not unaffected by this? Couldn't she see that he was just as enraged by this ordeal as she was? But unlike her L refused to let emotions haze his mind and instead deal with the situation in a logical way. Letting out a small sigh, L prepared his next words but is silenced by Sakura.

"I trusted you" She whispers, voice cracking from the intense feelings coursing through her. Tears had begun gathering in her eyes due to the immense pain she was still experiencing and from the betrayal. L turned away from Sakura, not willing himself to meet her tearful glare. The guilt had appeared again, but he refused to let it affect him.

A sudden gasp was heard and he turned to find Sakura clenching her side, face twisted in pain. Moving quickly L tried to grab her other arm to prevent Sakura from falling over. Flinching away from his touch, she pull away from him causing more waves of pain to rank through her body.

"As I said before, this was all just unexpected circumstances. Just get back into the bed and rest, I'll make sure you're take care of. I promise." L's tone was no longer calm.

"Fuck you, get the hell out!" Sakura yells back, again trying to pull away from the detective. Frustrated L finally takes hold of her arm trying to prevent her from causing her body anymore damage. For an instant their gazes meet, and he sees how affected she truly is by all this. The next instant L feels a sharp pain as her hand smacks him across the face. He doesn't let go of her arm nor does he turn back to face her.

"Let go of me, I'm done with all of this and I'm done with you!" Sakura cries out, the tears finally falling from her eyes.

Slowly L turns his face back to stare at the woman. He lets his emotionless mask fall and Sakura sees a look of pure disappointment fill his eyes. Shocked, this causes her to pause and stand still, looking straight into his dark gaze. An uneasy feeling fills her, but she refuses to back down from his stare.

"Good," L says with a hard tug on her arm, causing Sakura to crash into him "So am I."

Before Sakura could register his words, she feels a sharp pinch on the side of her neck. Her vision begins to blur again and as she tries to move, but she feels her legs give out and body collapse. The last thing she sees is L's same disappointed eyes, as her vision continues to darken until the darkness consumes her entirely.

Light Yagami had been allowed to return home, of course without an apology from L for arresting him. He had continued his act flawlessly, making his father and other task force members believe he was morning from the loss of his girlfriend. After assuring them that he was fine, but needed time alone, they had all agreed to give him space. Light returned to his apartment and sat down on one of his couches, waiting for what he knew was next. He wasn't the tiniest bit surprised when it soon appeared in the shadows, a dark aura consuming his apartment. Light's face remained stoic, as the shinigami Rem stepped forward, furry glistering in its eyes.

"I warned you Light Yagami that if Misa were to die prematurely that you would fall victim to my wrath."

Light watched the Shinigami closely, looking for any indication as to whether or not it would make a move towards the notebook. There was no sense in pretending that he wasn't at fault for Misa's death, for it was obvious that I had been behind it.

"I was her world you know. If something would have happen to me, then she would have doubtfully taken her own life. Is that what you would have preferred Rem?"

Its eyes narrowed as it took a menacing step closer to Light.

"Suicide is exactly what you had her do Light Yagami! Do not speak of such garbage when you had Misa take her own life while you watched!"

An eerie silence followed her outburst, but Light continued to only study it without showing any signs of remorse.

"I'm sure that wherever she is, she forgives me."

It moved at an extreme speed, pulling out the Death Note, pen in hand, prepared to kill. Light didn't dare to move and his breathing stilled as his eyes locked on the Death Note.

"You truly are such a disgusting human Light Yagami. Playing those around you like pawns, while you yourself sit on a throne of corpses. But I'm afraid that you have over stepped your limit, I'll show you what a true God can do!"

Time seemed to freeze as Light waited, but the shinigami did not proceed in writing his name. A dark smirk stretched across his face.

"Rem, if it's petty revenge that you seek then you have the wrong person. I was never Misa's enemy, in fact we were partners, lovers even. The person who has since the beginning been Misa's enemy has been L. It is him whom you should look to towards revenge"

If possible rem looked even more infuriated, unblinking eyes glaring directly at Light who still wore a smirk.

"Give me one good reason why I should even begin to consider ever helping something as vile as you."

Light let his eyes shift over to Ryuk, who was standing in the corner of the room, observing everything silently. Not once had he interrupted, and not once had he uttered a chuckle. Measuring his next words carefully, Light turned back to face Rem.

"Because you can't kill me."

He saw both shinigamis in the room tense and immediately Light knew he had won. Standing from his sitting position he tried not to laugh at the struck expression on Rem's face.

"You would have killed me the second Misa fired the first bullet, yet I'm still alive. Now I'm sure that it's not because you wanted an explanation or anything. I'm alive because you cannot kill me."

Ryuk began his hysterical laughter, causing a few dark chuckles to escape from Light.
"How?" Rem questioned, in a dangerously low voice, looking torn between wanting to slam Ryuk into the floor and ripping Light apart. Yet it did nothing more, but continue to stand still and glare at the man.

"When I first met Ryuk," Light began deciding to offer an explanation. "He told me that he would be the one writing my name in his Death Note. That is the agreement between the shinigami who drops its book into the human realm and the first human who picks it up. Of course you're aware of this. But that also means, only he can write my name in his Death Note. So in other words, you can't touch me."

Ryuk's laughter turned in to uncontrollable screeches, but Light ignored him and continued to confidently stare at Rem.

"So what are you going to do now Rem? You may be a shinigami but you can't hide the fact that you cared for Misa. There's no way that you would turn your back on her now, especially when her death can be avenged. Come on; think about Misa and what she would have wanted. Kill L and Sakura and Misa will be able to rest in peace."

For a moment Rem stayed silent, and Ryuk seem to control his laughter long enough to direct a questioning look at them.

"So that's what your plan is. You truly are despicable. You are certain that I would do anything to avenge Misa's death and that the only way for me to do that is through killing either Ryuzaki or Sakura. You have worked it out so that everything would end up in your favor." Rem answered in a tone which reflected defeat. It was hard to tell, but Light seemed certain it was sulking.

"Unfortunately for you," Rem started, straighten its back "The girl cannot be killed by the Death Note."

A look a shock past through Light's features as his brows lowered in confusion. That information was extremely troubling for him, but he knew Rem would not offer him any explanation. "Fine. How about L! Kill him!" Light snapped back, irritated by the turn this situation had taken.

"No. Misa never possessed any true resentment towards Ryuzaki, in fact she even considered him a friend of some sorts. I will not kill him."

A scowl had formed on Light's face and he didn't bother asking Rem anything further. This part of his plan had been a gamble anyways.

"I will however give you this information." Ryuk stopped his laughter and turned to face Rem, watching her closely. Light's eyes narrowed in suspicion, as he waited for Rem to continue.

"You can only kill using the Death Note if you have a person's face and name. Otherwise the Death Note cannot be used."

"I already knew that! Tell me something I don't know!"

Rem put her Death note away and began walking towards the window. Light stepped forward, following it, but keeping his distance.

"Wait don't you understand? I can avenge Misa for you; just tell me how to do so!" He yelled after it.

Rem stopped walking, back still facing Light. "You're not listening Light Yagami, I already gave you the answer."

Letting out a frustrated grunt, Light watched helplessly as Rem stepped on the windowsill ready to depart. "But Rem, how am I-"

"You claim to be a genius correct, figure it out you disgusting human." With that Rem extended out its wings, flying out the window and leaving Light to ponder its words. For a moment afterwards, it was silent.

"Yanno kid, that was actually pretty good. Figuring out that she couldn't kill you. It was a large risk though. Looks like you're getting desperate." Ryuk says in a taunting tone.

Light doesn't respond, and only continues to stare at the spot Rem had just been seconds ago. He needed to start planning immediately and somehow decipher what those words had meant.

"Oh and Light, you ran out of apples."

Wateri would like to think that with all his years of experience, he has gained enough sense to call himself wise. He is able to read people, and more importantly he is able see people's intentions. With all that being true however, he still couldn't seem to understand some of the things that L asked him to do. Wateri was not blind, he knew L was odd, but had grown rather fond of the young man's odd tendencies. He'd always had curious habits even as a child, Wateri always thought L would grow out of them. He never did.
Regardless, it was safe to say that Wateri cared deeply about L; he wanted to protect the man and provide him with whatever it was that could help him succeed. Overall Wateri just wanted L to find some sort of happiness, the very which that had been taken from him. That's why he rarely questioned the orders L gave him, but given the recent series of events, he found himself compelled to interfere. It was that precise idea that led Wateri to where he was now, behind said detective with a tray full of sweets.

"I understand your concern Wateri, but I'm afraid I can't just let her go. She knows Light Yagami, more importantly, she was with him before this entire ordeal. I know there's a connection somewhere."

Wateri swatted L's hand away that tried to take another cupcake from the tray he carried.

"Ryuzaki, that girl is dangerous; please try to see it through my perspective. Even though what you said is correct, I doubt that she will be of any help to the investigation. Assassins very rarely reveal who it was that sent them. I don't think she'll tell you anything."

L was silent as he continued to watch the video that showed a sleeping girl in a hospital bed. Her pink hair was spayed out around her giving the illusion of a halo. Sure she looked innocent enough, but Wateri had seen all the weapons that she carried with her in that pouch; all of which illegal.

"We won't know until we try Wateri. I'm not letting her get away, she could be the clue that closes this case."

Wateri let a sigh escape him. Stubbornness was another quality that L possessed, he was sure that no matter what he said, L wouldn't change his mind. If that were the case Wateri decided on another approach.

"And what case are you referring to L? The Kira investigation, or your private case of trying to figure out who this mysterious woman is?" Although L was not facing Wateri, by the way he his body had tense up, Wateri knew he had hit a nerve.

"I don't know what you mean." L mumbled out, and Wateri resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Don't you dare play dumb with me, I know you better than anyone."

L let out a small sigh and tilted his head slightly to eye Wateri who was watching him with an almost parenting expression.

"Everything I've done concerning that woman has been for the Kira investigation." L answered.

Wateri looked unconvinced, but decided not to press the issue further.

"Very well, continue watching her, but at a distance. I don't like the idea of someone so dangerous, being so close to you. There are other options."

L allowed himself to turn away from the monitor to face Wateri completely, studying him closely. He said nothing at first, considering the option in his mind. After a few minutes L finally released another sigh, running a hand through his dark hair. Pushing away another unnamed feeling that had appeared in the mouth of his stomach, L finally answered.

"Very well old friend, do what you see necessary. I have no immediate use for her anyway."

Wateri hid the smile that was threaten to spread across his face, and quietly handed L another cupcake. He would make sure to protect the detective, even if it was from his own stubbornness.
