A review had asked me where Carter was? Well, I hope this chapter answers that question.
Anyway, yes I haven't put much of Carter in these chapters, he's been there but never had dialogue, so I hope this makes up for it and I try to add him more often.
Enjoy!
"Kara are you sure about tonight?" Cat asked, the woman sitting in front of her vanity mirror, wearing a black, knee-length dress, placing white gem earrings in her earlobes. Her hazel eyes turned to the woman who had just entered Cat's bedroom from her private bathroom, wearing nothing but a towel.
"They'll be fine, Cat," said the blonde superhero, drying her hair with another towel. "Besides, we haven't been on a date in a while, right?"
"I know that, but you can't blame me for worrying," she replied, and she had every reason to worry. Because tonight, she would be leaving her son, Carter, to take care of their daughter, and his new baby sister, Kiera... by himself. This would be the first time Cat would let the boy stay in the house by himself, and even though he was very smart, responsible and capable, her stomach would still flip itself with nerves.
The CEO felt bare arms wrap around her neck from behind, the scent of strawberry surrounding her, as Kara hugged the woman from behind. "It'll be okay," she said, kissing the older woman's blonde strands. "And if something happens, I'll be there."
"I know you would," she said before sighing in defeat. "...Alright."
"Alright?" Kara repeated, a sneaky smile appearing on her lips. But the older woman saw it. Surprising the Girl of Steel, the media mogul stood up, twisted herself around and wrapped her own arms around the girl. The superhero was about to say something but Cat blocked anything that was about to come out with her lips, kissing the younger woman. Much to the displeasure of Kara, the kiss ended to soon, Cat parting their lips and gave a smirk of her own.
"If we carry on, we won't make our reservation," she whispered in a husky voice.
"You're just a tease, you know that?"
"I know," the woman said, her hands travelling down to squeeze Kara's ass through the material of the younger blonde's towel. The blonde out a squeak, her cheeks, as well as her body, growing red. Kara cried out Cat's name, slapping the woman on the shoulder (as light as she possibly managed) and went to get herself ready for the romantic evening.
And just like that, Cat's nerves about leaving Carter alone simply melted away.
Carter couldn't believe how happy he was at the moment. When he had first heard that Kara was pregnant and heard that his mother was able to do it (though he would never ask how she managed it) he'd been ecstatic. He would finally get a chance to be a big brother like Adam was for him, even if they both rarely saw each other.
And when the day came, and Carter found out that Kara (who he'd gladly call mother one day) and his mother were blessed with a baby girl, no words could describe how he felt at that moment.
And that same feeling was happening at this moment in time.
The boy was a happily playing with his sister, using one of her toys that littered the floor, and made Kiera giggle. Carter took it a step further, making funny faces while using the toy, making the little girl laugh even more. That was when her mother and Kara came out of the bedroom, all dressed up for the night. His mother wearing a knee-length black dress with the same coloured high heels, while Kara came out sporting a red dress that flared out at the hem, also wearing the same coloured heels.
The engagement ring that the CEO had given her sparkled in Carter's eye, making the boy giddy at the fact that the wedding was now only a short time away. And soon, Kara would be a Grant, and another mother for Carter. The last part was what he looked forward to the most.
"Okay, Carter, Kara and I are heading out," informed Cat, checking the contents of the purse she was bringing.
"Alright Mom, have fun," he said.
"Remember to not open the door for anyone," Cat continued.
"I know, Mom."
"Also don't-"
"Cat!"
"Mom!" Kara and Carter spoke in unison, silencing what ever the woman was about to say next. She sighed after a moment.
"I'm sorry," she apologised. "I guess I'm just being a bit over protective. It's not that I don't trust you, Carter, but..." Seeing his mother at a loss for words, the boy couldn't help but smile, standing up, before wrapping his arms around the media mogul.
"It's okay, Mom, I know that this will be the first you left me in the house by myself," he said. He could feel the woman sigh, hugging Carter in return and placed her chin on top of his head.
"I love you my sweet boy," she told Carter.
"I love you too, Mom." With that, the mother and son separated, the teenage Grant moving over toward his sister and picking her up, before heading to Kara and pushing her towards the CEO. "So you two go and enjoy yourselves. I'll take care of Kiera and the apartment."
The giggle that was coming out of Kara was infectious, the CEO herself couldn't help but smile. "Alright, alright," she said, the woman wrapping an arm around her fiancée and made their way to the door, Carter not far behind. When the pair of women where outside, Cat turned and hugged her son once more, kissing his brown hair, before leaning down to do the same for her daughter. "You be good for Carter, alright?"
What she got in reply was a happy giggle, and took it as a yes. The Girl of Steel did the same, her hand reaching to up to stroke the blonde hair on Kiera's head that was only getting longer and longer as the days went on. When Kara got to Carter, however, she stopped suddenly. But the boy easily knew why. She was afraid that it might be too early for her to be affectionate like a mother. But she needn't be. With a smile, and a subtle nod, Kara took the sign and wrapped an arm around the boy, feeling her lips on his scalp.
In the process, Carter looked toward his mother, and he saw her smile lovingly, mouthing "Thank you" to the boy. Soon they parted, and with a final goodbye from the two women, Carter went back inside the apartment, remembering his mother's words and locked the door.
"So what do you say Kiera?" he called to the girl in his arms. "Should we have some fun?" His sister laughed and swung her arms in response.
I take that as a yes.
Kara watched a drunken Cat try and unlock the door to the CEO's apartment, but failed miserably. "D-Damn this lock," Cat groaned. "It keepsh movin'."
"Here let me," Kara offered, taking the key from her drunk fiancé. Even though it might be funny to watch Cat try again and again to get the door open, it would be even better to eventually get inside the apartment. She opened the door in one try, and the older blonde gave the heroine a glare.
"Show off."
Kara just rolled her eyes and giggled under her breath, taking her lover's arm in her's and walked through the threshold. The place was wrapped in darkness, save for the light from the living room's television, toys spread out all over the floor. But when the pair of women moved further in, they stopped at the sight before them.
Carter was sitting on the floor in front of the couch, the upper part of his body laying on the couch. Kiera was lying on her side, on top of the cushioned furniture, close to the boy's head. The thing that made both women want to melt in a puddle, was that they were both sleeping with their hands joined together. The little girl's enveloped by Carter's.
Cat and Kara were both speechless from the sight. Speechless, but Kara knew one thing.
This was her family. Her beautiful wife-to-be next to her, their hands together and fingers interlocked. Her bundle of joy, sleeping peacefully and hopefully having a wonderful dream. And then finally, Carter, who she would proudly call her son.
Yes. This was her family.
And I wouldn't change them for the world.
I know it was short, but I hope it was sweet. Please, if there is anything that you would like to see in this series of stories, let me know.
Have a nice day :)
