Speed watched Lauren sleep as she lay in the hospital bed. He couldn't help but hope she was resting peacefully. He turned his attention to the window, and noticed the sun had fully risen. Looking at his watch he saw the time was 8:00a.m.

He was the only one left at the hospital. Horatio had to go into work there was no if ands or buts about it. He was the boss, and his parents and brother headed home to get some sleep. Barbara didn't want to, but Speed made her.

The sound of ruffling bed sheets broke his thoughts. He turned around and saw Lauren watching him. He smiled and walked over to her. "Hey sweetheart. Did you sleep good?" he asked leaning in for a kiss. He captured her lips with his and gave her three quick kisses.

"Yeah," Lauren said softly. "Did you get any sleep?"

Speed looked out the window and said, "A little bit." Speed lied. He hadn't gotten any sleep.

Lauren took his hand in hers. She knew he was lying. "Babe, we've been married almost eight years. I know when you're lying to me. You always look away when you lie."

Speed half smiled. "Nothing gets past you does it?"

"Did you forget I'm the daughter of Horatio Caine?" she joked. Lauren scooted over making just enough room for Speed to lie down next to her. She patted the empty spot next to her and he slid in.

Speed let out a soft moan, turned on his side, and wrapped his arm around Lauren's waist. She in turn wrapped her arms around him "Better?"

Speed closed his eyes for a moment then said, "Much better."

Lauren began running her fingers through Speed's hair. Another soft moan escaped his lips. He was comfortable. Having his head scratched was one of his favorite things. What would he do without him? He was her rock. Speed and Lauren had been through a lot together, and each time they became a stronger couple. This bump in the road was no different. They would get through this together. Lauren rested her head back on her pillow and slowly drifted off to sleep.

A few hours later, both Speed and Lauren awoke to the sound of someone knocking on the door. "Come in," Speed said sitting up. Lauren pulled herself up into a sitting position once Speed got up.

The door opened and in walked Lauren's boss and assistant, Nanci Matheson and Katelyn Finnegan.

"Guys, what are you doing here? How did you even know I was in the hospital?" Lauren asked pulling up her hospital gown that had started to fall off her shoulders.

"I called your house, and Tim's mother picked up almost immediately. She said you were rushed to the hospital early this morning. She also told me it was because of a miscarriage. Honey, why didn't you tell me you were pregnant? I could've sent someone else on that business trip," Nanci said concerned.

Lauren closed her eyes as she felt tears sting her eyes. She opened them and said, "I didn't know I was pregnant until yesterday." Lauren loved everyone she worked with, but she didn't want them to see her like this. "If you're looking for all the information I collected on the furniture and color trends I can get it to you as soon as they let me go. I haven't been able to go through it yet, and I'll start working on sorting through the photos as well. I can have that for you in a couple days."

A motherly look appeared on her boss's face. "Lauren, I do not want you to worry about getting stuff done for work. It can wait. Your health is more important right now than what I need done at work. Plus, I'm pushing back the reconstruction of our website and delaying the publish date of our magazine," Nanci said sitting down in the chair Speed had been sitting in earlier. Katelyn was standing quietly behind Nanci.

Lauren's eyes went wide. "What? Why? This isn't because of me is it? I mean it's not a problem I can get all the stuff done that I need to as soon as I get out of here."

"Lauren, this has absolutely nothing to do with you. A lot has happened since you were away, but I don't want you to worry about that. I want you to focus on yourself and your wonderful husband. Take all the time you need. If you feel like working from home will be better for you, we'll work something out, all right."

Lauren couldn't help but smile. Her boss was incredible to her. Words could not describe how thankful and grateful she was. It didn't matter what Lauren needed, Nanci would always make it happen.

"Thank you so much, Nanci. I don't even know what to say. You're so good to me," Lauren said wiping a fresh batch of tears away.

"It's not a problem. Listen, we'll let you go because the doctor was about to walk in when we arrive. He agreed to give us a few minute. I think he's going to let you go home soon. Don't quote me on that though. Hang in there. Get lots of rest, and be there for each other. I will call you tomorrow afternoon." Nanci got up from the chair and gave Lauren and Speed a goodbye hug. Katelyn did the same. They left the room just as Dr. Raymond was walking in.

"Perfect timing," Dr. Raymond said with a smile. "Well, Lauren it looks like everything is looking good. Everything is looking normal. I just want to give you one last check up just to make sure, but I have a feeling you'll be good to go." Dr. Raymond grabbed a pair of latex gloves from the cabinet and slipped them on.

Before Lauren knew it, he was finished. "That was quick," Lauren said looking at Speed.

"Everything looks good, Lauren. It looks like the bleeding has stopped, but you might still have some here and there. No using tampons. Stick to the pads. No sex for a couple weeks until you've fully healed. Wait at least four to six weeks before trying to get pregnant again, okay, " he said going over a few more post surgery and miscarriage rules and guidelines before letting them head home.
