Alright so I'm sorry this took so long to update I just got really busy with all sorts of other projects and this was my first fanfic so it kinda fell to the side. But I'm back to it now! I hope its not a big problem but I've switched it to first person, from Lara's POV. I'm just so much better at first person writing I think it'll make the story a lot better. So please enjoy I will update as soon as possible.

My nose woke up before my eyes even opened. The smell of rot in the room drifted into my dreams, tainting them, turning them to acrid nightmares. I felt my body suddenly jerk and opened my eyes, only to be blinded by a bright white light. I shut them tight, opening them again slowly, allowing my eyes time to adjust to the stark contrast from my dark sleep. I tried to examine my surroundings. I'm in some sort of jail cell. On the other side of the metal bars is some sort of torture room, body parts litter the room. The floor is hard concrete, and high above me is a narrow window, letting in the sharp white light. It must be snowing outside.

I press my hands against the ground and rise, as soon as I try to stand my knee protests, sending me crashing to the ground before I'm even fully raised. Collapsed on the ground, I look down at my leg, everything from the knee down is soaked in dark blood. I touch my knee and feel pain shoot through my entire leg. I keep my jeans pulled over the wound, there's nothing to do for it in here, and I don't particularly want to look at it right now anyways. I ball my hands into tight fists, bracing myself for the pain this time, and force my body to push through it and stand. I place most of my weight on my left leg, but still the pain is so intense I feel my head go dizzy. I stretch my arms out and grasp the cold metal bars for support. I take deep breaths of the cold air, gently placing more and more weight on my right leg. Eventually I felt I could at least walk, I walked slowly, keeping the bars close to me on my side. While walking I heard footsteps belonging to someone else, footsteps coming towards the room. Quickly I went back to the spot on the floor I'd been sleeping, turning my back away from the bars, facing the wall of the cell.

Two pairs of footsteps coming closer to the room. Suddenly the door swings open, I shut my eyes, faking sleep, listening to the conversation between my two captors. "What are we going to do if we can't find them huh?"

"Don't worry. She'll tell us where they are. She'll have to."

"And what if she doesn't? David this is serious. What if this bitch was with a group? You don't know it was just her and those two."

"Think about it. There couldn't be a group that close to us without us never seeing them right? No. It was just these three."

Three? Joel! There's no way they could know about him. They didn't even see him, Ellie and I made sure they wouldn't find him, we lead them away!

"Ah looks like our little friend is awake." David said.

Crap. I must've made some noise that blew my cover. I turned over, facing the two men. One was in his forties at least, sporting a mustache that made him look like a serial killer. And the other was young, twenty at most. "Hello boys." I said, keeping my voice even.

"Well hello there pretty lady. What might your name be hmm?"

"Lara."

"Well, Lara. We need to ask you a few questions. If you answer 'em nice and quick, we'll give you a place to stay. A place where you don't need to be afraid anymore. A community."

Immediately I noticed that David was doing all of the talking, he's clearly in control here. "Well David, you can ask me anything, but is this really an appropriate setting for polite conversation?' I said, gesturing to the bodies around David's feet.

My comment makes him laugh. "You have got a lotta spunk little lady." David moved closer to the bars, only inches from his face, "Alright, stand up, we'll go talk somewhere more... private."

This last word slithered out of his mouth like a snake's tongue, making my insides feel greasy.

I made myself stone, refusing to show the pain that shot through my body as I rose and walked to the cell door. David unlocked the door and i walked through, hiding my limp from sight. Any weakness I show will only make me easier prey for them. The lion doesn't attack the antelope that can still run. It goes for the slow, easy kill.

We walked in a line out the door of the prison, ending up outside where the snow was light, reflecting the sunlight brightly. After a long walk, David led me to a small house, opening the door for me to enter, he remained outside, speaking to the young man. I quickly scanned the entryway of the home for anything I could use. The room was small, the door was letting in light from the outside, but even still it was too dark to see much. Before my eyes could even fully adjust David returned, grasping my shoulder in his hand. "Now follow me this way."

David walked through the darkness with ease, clearly not a stranger to this place. Walking behind David I considered striking him from behind, at least knocking him unconscious and running. But with my leg the way it was I'm not sure I could run even if he was knocked out.

The hallway ended at another room, this one windowless and even darker than the entryway was. "Now hold on a sec, I'll get the lights on."

"Okay." I said.

I was an open target in the darkness. David could come up from behind and I would be none the wiser until I was already dead. I backed myself up until I could feel the wall pressing against my back. Suddenly sparks began flying. From the brief moments of illumination I saw David kneeling, striking a flint and steel. Quickly he had a fire blazing in the fireplace. "What are you doing all the way over there?" He asked, a smile on his face.

I began my walk to him, my mind racing. This was the only time I had to get away, I need a weapon, I can take David out and then escape, find Joel and Ellie, we can leave. I took a deep breath, my eyes fluttering around quickly in an attempt to find something, anything I could use, but the room had nothing. I reached David, I began to kneel, but the pain made me instead lower my back and sit with my legs in front of me.

The flames of the fire lit David's face in a bright orange, creating dark shadows on his facial features. "You're a very special girl," He said, reaching his hand up to brush my hair, "You are a survivor, just like me. Tell me where your friends are."

David rested his hand on the side of my face. My eyes flashed down, David's coat lifted with his arm, I could see the ring of keys he used to open my cell in a reflex to the sight of the keys, my hand flashed up, grasping one of the keys tightly, ripping the ring from David's jacket. Using all my strength I jammed the key into David's neck. The key went into his skin, sending his hand from my face to his wound, his other found my face again, sstriking the side of my head, sending my body to the floor. I got up as quickly as possible, struggling through the stars in my head. David grabbed my bad leg, dragging me back, sending my face down into the ground hard. I kicked my good leg back, aiming for David's face and hitting his nose, sending blood gushing down. His hand released, I pulled my led back towards me and crawled away. I crawled to a desk in the center of the room, using it to pull myself into a standing position. I could feel warm blood on my face. David was beginning to stand, I picked up the flimsy chair behind the desk, throwing it at him to keep him down. He fell back, releasing a grunt as the air escaped his lungs.

I ran from the room as fast as my knee would allow. I was back in the darkness, lost in the long hall that led back to the door. My body leaned against the wall as I moved, I could hardly keep myself standing on my own. My vision began to blur, a mixture of tears and my head wound. I found the door again, the light from the outside surrounding me. I opened the door, blasted by the cold air and snow. I could hear shouts coming from all around. I heard noises behind me from inside. I ignored them, looking for somewhere I could go. I walked forward, lost in the blaze of flurries flying through the air. The buildings on the other side of the street greeted me, I entered the first one I found, walking in and shutting the door behind me. I crawled behind the counter of the shop. I tried forming some thought, but before anything would stick, I collapsed and faded into the darkness.
