Curt Connors sat in his office, he was pretty sure it was Thursday meaning that he had been in his lab for almost two days now trying to find a breakthrough in his research, he was close he could feel it but he was running out of time. He only had a few weeks to give something to Osborn that could save his work from being shelved permanently. He hadn't slept more than a handful of hours since the budget meeting and Smythe has been making the rounds talking about what he was going to do with all the money that Osborn was giving the robotics division. Curt's work with lizards was progressing but not fast enough for the business world of Oscorp and he threw his tools down in frustration and sighed heavily. He decided to head home and sleep on it since he wasn't getting anywhere on no sleep. As he walked out he saw his longtime partner Miles Warren who was experimenting with rat DNA. "Good evening Miles" he said checking up on him.
Warren was a small man with a full gray beard and short gray hair that covered his aging face. "I'm fine thank you" he said pushing his glasses up off of his nose.
"Why are you here so late?" asked Curt putting his jacket on.
"I heard Smythe talking about the funding and I know that we are close to being removed from the agenda. So I'm here for the same reason you are, to find a breakthrough that we can use to get the funding back" Warren explained getting back to work.
Connors smiled and sat down next "Go home and get some rest we still have time and we will work better with sleep than we will without it" said Connors turning to leave.
Warren nodded "I suppose you are right" he said grabbing his coat and following Curt out the door.
Gwen was flying through her wardrobe hoping to find the right outfit for her date with Peter the next day. Felicia was over to help her choose the right outfit, she was wearing a nice shirt with a skirt which Felicia seemed to think was the winner "I tried to get Eddie to make sure Peter was ready but he said that Peter could handle it" said Felicia looking through Gwen's dresser.
Gwen laughed at her statement "Yeah Eddie has an undying belief in Peter just like Peter does in him."
"Eddie said that he and Peter are like brothers" said Felicia taking a seat on Gwen's bed.
Gwen nodded "They were friends before I knew either one of them, their parents were co-workers and friends and the two of them got very close after their parents died" she explained.
"What happened? Every time I bring it up with Eddie he closes up and tells me not to worry about it" informed Felicia desperately wanting to know why Eddie seemed to darken a little when his parents came up.
Gwen shrugged her shoulders "I don't know the whole story. I've asked Peter before and he talks about how both of their parents dropped them off with relatives and just left them without explanation. Then they were killed in a plane crash the next day, nobody knows where they were going or why but anytime Peter started getting more detailed Eddie would get upset and tell us to drop it. I think Eddie is bitter about his parents and wants as little to do with them as he can" she explained. Felicia nodded deciding to leave the subject alone with Eddie for now figuring he would open up when he felt like he was ready. "So you think the blouse and skirt combo?" Felicia nodded with a smile.
George watched as Gwen picked out what she was wearing the next day for her date with Peter. All she had talked about all week was her date with Peter and how excited she was about it. He would usually give any boy a hard time but Peter and Gwen had known each other since they were in kindergarten so he trusted Peter enough to allow it to happen besides he had a bigger problem to deal with. George turned and when into his home office and continued the search through the police database for possible suspects who could possibly be the Kingpin. He looked over to his board where he had mapped out the organized crime gangs in New York. He pulled up the webcam on his computer, he liked to keep a log of his investigation in case something happened to him since the organized crime element tend to take out the people who got close to bringing them down. "Silvio "Silvermane" Manfredi leads the Maggia family with enforcers such as Hammerhead as muscle heads most of the weapons dealings in the city" he looked over the photo of Silvermane and followed it down with mug shots with as many members of the Maggia family as the NYPD had encountered. "Lonnie Lincoln AKA Tombstone likes to bring in mercenaries to handle security or murder plots, so he can keep his hands clean of any crime scene, note that he is an albino black man which forced him to fight bullies growing up showing that he has physical toughness that cannot be underestimated. Rumors say that he has super human abilities but no proof has been found that proves this to be true. He is the lead drug peddler in the city and runs things from his office building in Upper Manhattan and has been in the process of building a larger office tower in Harlem where he grew up." Stacey had met Tombstone once a few years ago when he was accused of murder but got off since no tangible evidence could be found at the scene. Stacey looked up to his board and spotted the newest part of his little web "This Kingpin character is dangerous, he has moved in on both the weapons and drugs businesses with ease and ferocity. He always deals through proxy and has left a trail of bodies in his wake as he has chipped away at Silvermane and Tombstone's power bases. The fact that his identity is unknown makes him even more dangerous, criminals are being brought in every day claiming to be working for the new Kingpin of crime" Stacey sighed and leaned back in his chair. "This guy is threatening to start a war between the three biggest war machines in New York and all civilians will be caught in the crossfire."
Peter was in the basement of his house cleaning it out as penance for not being there to help Uncle Ben help the neighbors move in. His new strength was coming in handy in moving the heavy boxes and his danger sense was allowing him to avoid stuff falling from the various shelves in the basement. He was looking through the boxes nonchalantly as he cleaned until he noticed a box that said Richard on it. Peter pulled it out and opened it up and found assorted notes and utensils. He stopped cleaning and took the box upstairs to his room, he started looking through the box and found a lab coat with an Oscorp badge on it. He opened up one of the notebooks and read through it, he found notes on just about everything. Most of the notes were about something involving a black substance, but the most recent ones appeared to be about Dr. Connors project. He thought about calling Connors immediately but decided against it since it was getting late and he didn't want to bother him. The nagging questions about his parents started to resurface in his mind, he never understood why they left, why Eddie's parents left with them. Eddie never showed much interest choosing instead to focus on what lied ahead of him instead of what came before. Peter often would go back and forth on knowing more about his parents but usually knowing more came out on top in the decision. He decided he would call Dr. Connors on Monday to talk to him about his parents and see what he knew. Normally he would get a hold of him the next day but he had his date with Gwen to get ready for and that was the most important thing for him at the moment.
