Chapter Seven
'You have got to be kidding me.' Danny thought as he stared at the place in front of them, 'Really? Out of every other place in town they make this their base?'
"Keep moving prisoner! We don't have all day for you to stand there gawking like an idiot." Valerie barked shoving him forward with the barrel of her gun.
Sending her an irritated look over his shoulder Danny ground his teeth together before he started to walk up the stairs.
'Well never thought I'd come back here. That's for sure,' He thought as they passed rows and rows of lockers.
As they led him down the halls of Casper High he couldn't help but snort. This place held so many memories, most were of him being shoved in a locker or sneaking into the girls locker room. Still as he passed his locker he couldn't help but see himself, Tucker, and Sam standing around laughing or talking about ghosts. He wasn't aware he was grinning until the gun was shoved into his back again this time almost sending him to the floor.
"I said keep moving!" Valerie barked once more sending him a venomous look.
"I see age hasn't made you any less of a grouch when it comes to ghost huh Val," Danny muttered brushing off dust from where he rammed into a wall.
"Quiet we're here." She muttered Danny noting that she didn't growl as much this time.
They had stopped in front of the principal's office. Rolling his eyes at the faded wording he couldn't help but think that they were being a little obvious about the location of their so called "base". When he stepped past the door frame however he was a little taken back by the fact that...the room looked exactly as he remembered it.
Desk, chair, framed diplomas on the wall.
Yup nothing had changed, looking over his shoulder he raised an eyebrow at Valerie. She simply brushed past him ignoring the look moving towards the desk. Sliding her fingers over the wood and through the dust she stopped once she reached a framed picture.
"Welcome to the Resistance Base," Valerie said before she knocked the picture over.
Danny wanted to ask what she meant, his words however were cut off by a loud hiss. He jumped a little, as embarrassing as it was, when the ground underneath him began to move. At first he thought the building was coming down around them, when they sank down even further however he realized it was a trap door.
"Behave an no one gets hurt." Valerie said calmly jumping down onto the platform before the roof closed.
"You keep saying that but I think the only one who's going to end up hurt is me." Danny replied just to annoy her.
"Scum." She muttered in reply.
Danny :1
Valerie: 10
As the platform sank deeper and deeper into the ground Danny couldn't help but feel nervous. What if he'd made the wrong choice. Being honest with himself Danny had to admit that he could have escaped at any moment. All he had to do was turn back into his human form long enough to escape. The only thing that made him stay was the hope that he would see his family. Maybe even his friends.
But...
What if they weren't there?
Did that mean they were dead?
That was one of his greatest fears since his escape. That they wouldn't be alive anymore, that he would be alone again. Clenching his hands into fists he pushed those thoughts away as they emerged into a well lit cavern. Blinking a couple times he looked around trying to take in everything at once.
Dozens of crates filled the room some stacked as high as the ceiling. People maneuvered around the crates in swarms, some carrying food, others were in groups training from the looks of it.
The moment their platform touched the ground however all activity stopped. In an instant they were mobbed, questions hurled Danny's way as everyone examined him.
"Who's that?"
"Where'd you pick up the ghost?"
"I've never seen anything like him before."
"Are you taking him to see boss?"
"Did you manage to find out where the food caravan is headed to?"
The questions continued to come one after the other. Valerie however ignored them all in favor of shoving Danny through the crowd intent on a door nestled into one of the walls. Upon reaching it Valerie directed her group to hold off the crowd as she slid a keycard into a slot the door opening with a loud gush of air.
"I'll be taking him by myself from here, give the information we obtained to the other leaders. I want everyone to be ready when that caravan passes through." She ordered before shoving him through.
"Yes sir!" They replied in unison.
As the door closed behind them Valerie grabbed the chain connected to his handcuffs and tugged him down the hallway. The hall seemed to go on for miles as they passed room after room. Danny was just beginning to develop an ache in his feet when they finally stopped. Valerie seemed to hesitate before she threw the door open and dragged him inside.
"Boss, I brought you another prisoner. This one claims to be Danny Fenton." She said her voice loud in her disbelief.
Danny looked up at the sound of a chair swiveling around. Jerking his head back in surprise he could only gape at "Boss,".
"He wouldn't be the first one masquerading as my brother, what makes this one so special?" Jazz asked even as she stared at a sheaf of papers in her hands.
"He knew my name, called me by it the moment he saw my face." Valerie replied sending a poisonous look at him.
"Interesting, though our enemy does know his life inside and out. It's a simple matter of -" At this Jazz looked up and locked eyes with the so called "prisoner."
Blue eyes bore into greens ones as Jazz jumped up the papers dropping from her hands. Walking around the desk she'd been sitting at Danny noted that her knees shook as she approached him. Valerie took a step away from him obviously unsure what to do as Jazz reached shaking hands out to him.
"How? There's no way any clone should look so much like Danny." She muttered as she examined him.
"And if I'm not a clone?" He asked tilting his head to the side.
"Impossible, Danny, Danny is gone. Take him to one of the holding cells. We'll deal with him tomorrow." Jazz said shaking her head as if to clear it.
Rolling his eyes at his sister he allowed the white rings to settle around his stomach. A flash of light later Jazz and Valerie were both staring at him their eyes wide with shock. Rolling his neck he slid his hands out of the cuffs grinning sheepishly when he saw they were still staring.
"My bad should I have warned you?" He asked.
"What-? How-?" Jazz exclaimed.
"Well obviously you weren't going to believe anything I said. Geez I didn't want this to turn into another incident like what happened with Young Blood." He said rubbing a hand over the back of his head.
Jazz stared at him, then with a cry she threw herself at him. Her arms wrapped around his waist as she sobbed into his chest. He looked over at Valerie for help, inheriting his fathers lack of common sense when it came to the ladies. Valerie however just stared at him, so no help there. Looking down at his sister he wrapped his arms around her shaking shoulders a little hesitant.
"You're alive. You're alive." Jazz sobbed repeating the phrase over and over.
"Yeah, I'm alive." He answered rubbing her back.
"I'm alive."
Author: So I got the feeling that Jazz wouldn't believe him at first and this is what I got in result. Anyway hope to see ya in the next chap.
