Chapter Eight: Hatching

Morning rose, the sun shining light into the cave waking Toothless. Toothless looked at Hiccup, smiling. He stroked Hiccups hair and then the egg. He put his claw on it, it felt rough and cold. Toothless went to Hiccups bag and got another blanket to put on Hiccup and the egg. When Toothless pulled out the blanket, a piece of paper fell out. There was an image on it. The image was Hiccup, his father and all his friends. Toothless stared at the image thinking if everyone on Berk hated him. He shook his and went putting the blanket on Hiccup and the egg. Toothless went and sat at the entrance of the cave. He starred off into the horizon, taking in the morning air. He remembered doing this back on Berk every morning before he and Hiccup went flying with their friends. Toothless would wake up before Hiccup, going out of the house, sitting in the front grass.

"I'll go tell the family of the news if you desire." That same female dragon voice said.

"What?" Toothless replied.

"I'll go tell Hiccup's family that he is fine and has a child". The dragon said.

"Why would you do that?" Toothless asked.

"it's for the baby. I doubt you want to raise it on this island." The dragon said.

"Berk. The place where come from is Berk". Toothless said.

"I know where that is, I fly by it during the migration." The dragon said.

The dragon suddenly flew off. Toothless looked back at Hiccup and sighed. He got up, walked to Hiccup and the egg. He stared at them for a bit and then lay next to them. Toothless imagined what the family would be like back on Berk. After a while, he went back to sleep.

The female dragon was over Berk, trying to find a place to land. She found a spot near the cliff. Stoick, Astrid everyone went to go great her.

"Welcome to Berk". Stoick said.

"Thank you bearded man." The dragon said.

Everyone was stunned at the female dragon talking.

"I'm looking for Hiccup's family?" The dragon asked.

"How do you know my son's name?" Stoick asked.

"I met him and he is fine. So, are Toothless and their baby." The dragon replied.

"I don't care about that kid…wait their baby. What nonsense are you talking about?" Stoick asked.

"Hiccup and Toothless have an egg together. An egg Hiccup produced." The dragon replied.

Everyone was speechless. How could Hiccup get pregnant with a dragon egg or how could he even get the egg out.

I'll tell you everything. Beginning to now." The dragon said.

So they all went to the great hall and the dragon explained everything. When she got done, everyone had their mouths hung open. Stoick couldn't believe that this has happened to his son. Finally he found his voice.

"When will they come back?" Stoick asked.

"When the egg has hatched." The dragon replied.

"And when will that be?" Astrid asked.

"Three weeks at the most." The dragon replied.

Everyone was disappointed. They had hoped that it be sooner.

"Can you do me a favor dragon?" Stoick asked.

"What is that beard guy?" The dragon replied.

"Tell Hiccup and Toothless that we are not mad and we will wait for their return." Stoick said.

"I will beard guy." The dragon said.

Dragon left the great hall and took flight to the air, heading back to Hiccup and Toothless.

…..

Hiccup slowly woke up. Stretching and yawning. He got up, looked at the egg and Toothless. He smiled took a breath of air in, looked around and saw a piece of paper on the ground. He walked up to it, picked and noticed it was a picture of him, Toothless and all their friends. Hiccup smiled and felt sad. Suddenly, he felt warm arms around his stomach. Hiccup turned his head and noticed Toothless holding him.

"Hey I thought you were asleep?" Hiccup questioned.

"I wasn't but just closed my eyes." Toothless replied.

Hiccup slightly giggled. Toothless noticed what Hiccup was holding.

"I miss them to love but once the egg hatches and is strong enough to travel, we can go home as a family." Toothless said.

"I'm not worried about traveling; I'm worried about when we get home. How will everyone react to us? Will they accept us?" Hiccup asked in a scared tone.

"If they don't, it's their loss. We will raise our child together without help." Toothless said as he held Hiccup tighter.

"Your family is worried about you and is waiting for your return home." A female voice.

It was the blue female dragon near the entrance of the cave.

"What do you mean?" Hiccup asked.

"I went to your home and told your family that you were okay and that there is a new addition to the family." The dragon said.

"So they want us back?" Hiccup asked.

"Yes they do." The Dragon replied.

Hiccup had a smile on his face. Now he was at ease knowing that everyone on Berk is accepting this situation well. Suddenly, everyone heard a sound. They all looked in the direction of where the sound came from. This time they saw something wiggle underneath the blanket where the egg was. Hiccup and Toothless went to the blanket and unwrapped the egg. The egg moved, Hiccup and Toothless new that the egg was hatching. They kneeled down to get closer.

"Hey come here, its hatching." Hiccup yelled out to the blue dragon.

The blue dragon went over to the egg. Everyone watched as the egg was moving and making crackling sound. The egg was moving a lot. Toothless grabbed Hiccup's hand, holding it softly. After a while watching the egg moving, finally there was a crack on the egg. Then another one appeared and finally the egg shell broke into little pieces. Laying there was a black and brown baby dragon. It had hind legs, like a human, paws that looks like fingers and a face. Hiccup picked up the baby dragon and held it in his arms.

"It's a girl." Hiccup said.

Everyone felt all bubbly inside. They were amazed that this little creature has come to this amazing world.

"What are you going to call her?" The blue dragon asked.

"Luna. Her name is Luna." Hiccup replied.

"That is a perfect name for our child. Hi Luna, I'm your father and this is your other father." Toothless said.

"Thank you for helping us." Hiccup said to the blue dragon.

"It was my pleasure. I wouldn't have missed this for the world." The blue replied as she was starting to leave the cave.

The dragon left the cave, leaving Hiccup and Toothless with their new baby. The two were filled with joy. Seeing there little Luna looking around and at them. They knew that their lives have gotten interesting.
