What is wrong with me?! Rose thought as the two girls met in bullets of light. Pushing against each other, neither backed down but, once again, Rose felt herself slowly being pushed back and shot to the edge of the arena. We're using the same magic, same attacks, but somehow she's still stronger… why? Rose thought, eyeing her opponent. The girl, Ruby smirked back at her, seemingly reading her thoughts.
Rose stole a glance at the side, where her brother fought the other male Gatekeeper. The two both fired their breath attacks and they collided in midair, both of them flying back from the force of the impact. Though neither one got out without a scratch. It was clear, however, that one got the better side of the deal.
"Why can't we…?" Issac panted. Rose shook her head.
"I don't know."
"If things continue like this, we're going to lose for sure." Rose looked up at the stands and smiled as she saw all of their guildmates cheering for them.
"But we can't," she declared firmly. Issac sighed.
"I thought you would say something like that," he grumbled, but hardened his expression as well. "Let's do this." Rose nodded and a golden light enveloped her.
"HERALD OF THE ANGELS!" she called, her holy armor, word, wings, and halo appearing. Similarly, Issac transformed into his Hellbringer armor, the two siblings radiating waves of magic power.
"Rose and Issac Dreyar, Gatekeepers of the 7th Gate of Hell demand that you declare yourselves!" Rose's voice rang through the stadium.
"Very well," was the reply. In a flash of light, Ruby and Nico appeared in similar forms.
"Nico and Ruby Castle, Gatekeepers of the 4th Gate of Hell at your acquaintance."
"Gatekeeper?"
"What's that?"
Hushed whispers rippled through the crowd. The only ones who knew what was going on were Levy, Makarov, Laxus, Sting, and Rogue.
In the stands, the team formerly known as Team Dragon Slayer looked worriedly at Laxus, who was leaning forward, his hands tightly gripping the railing as his knuckles gradually turned white.
"Laxus-san? Are you okay?" the young Sky Maiden asked.
"Sparky, what's wrong?" Gajeel added, "What is this whole Gatekeeper deal anyway?"
Surprisingly enough, Laxus did not even complain about the use of the nickname he so hated, but merely grit his teeth in response. "Gatekeeper… it's the name for wizards that had a demon sealed inside of them at birth or the angel that unlocks that demon. Rose and Issac, that's where they get their powers from."
This seem to surprise even Gajeel. "So those punks down there are these Gatekeeper people as well, huh?" He leaned forward to take a closer look at the red haired girl and her partner.
Someone must have tipped Chapati off as to what was happening, because he resumed his commentary.
"… Well, it seems that Gatekeepers are wizards that had a demon sealed inside of them at birth or the angel that unlocks that demon, which is where their power comes from."
Nodding, with his usual slight frown on his face, the King added, "They are a powerful class of wizards indeed."
"Look like the secret's out," the red-haired girl said. "That means it's time for us to act."
Before anyone could stop them, more Wolf Fang members jumped down from the stands in their divine forms. Standing in pairs, a dark aura began to emmitt from the group.
"NO, STOP!" Rose yelled, sensing what they were planning but they paid her no heed.
A faint golden light pulsating from Jade's hand on her stomach, Ruby simply gave her a triumphant smile. "I pity you," the girl said, her voice eerily echoing across the stadium. "Hell is about to descend upon us, and there is nothing you can do, Former Gatekeeper."
"WE, GATEKEEPERS OF THE…"
"FOURTH… "
"FIFTH… "
"THIRD… "
"GATE OF HELL SUMMON THEE TO OUR WORLD! OPEN!"
The spectators screamed in fear as, out of nowhere, smoke filled the stadium and 3 giant figures rose from the ground.
"What just happened?!" Lucy screamed amidst the chaos that ensued. "Did they just open their Gates?!"
"We're going to die!" cames cries of despair from the crowd as the gigantic figures lumbered across the stadium, trampling anything they stepped on as they stirred up dust and created rubble.
From the announcer's box the King could only watch in horror as the giant figures came closer and closer for before them, he was powerless. Someone please… he begged, please save us…
Suddenly, a great flash of light appeared in the stadium floor and a giant wall of golden light, entwined with vines of darkness appeared around the Wolf Fang members and the demons. Taking a closer look, the spectators could see the figures of Rose and Issac hovering above, hands clasped and eyes closed in concentration. From inside the shield came bursts and explosions, as the wall of light visibly shook.
Knowing that the shield the two siblings had put up was not going to hold against the combined attacks of the demons and the Wolf Fang members, the mages were galvanized into action, taking the chance to swiftly evacuate the civilians to safety.
"This way please," Sting said, ushering people through the exit along with the rest of his guildmates. He worriedly looked up at the hovering girl. Hang in there Rose…
With each blast inflicted on their shield, Rose winced the slightest, her eyes shut tight as she fought to maintain the barrier. She gently squeezed her brother's hand, as if to reassure herself that he was with her, and in response, he gave a gentle squeeze back. The pain slowly wearing away at her consciousness, she hung on only because she knew what would happen if she didn't.
Gray looked in horror at the giant figures that were hammering away at the golden wall, his mind flashing back to his childhood, replaying that awful scene in his mind. The screams of terror, the utter destruction, he could imagine it all. I can't let that happen… he thought firmly and stepped up to the barrier.
"Gray! What are you doing?!" Natsu demanded. Gray simply ignored him and held his hands up in a stance he once swore to never do. His muscles tense, he waited for the slightest sign of the collapse of the barrier.
Suddenly, with a sound like glass shattering, the barrier fell and shards of light rained down and disintegrated into fine particles.
Swallowing, Gray gathered his magic, as the air grew colder. Sensing what he was about to do, Natsu ran towards him, his fist aflame. With a sad smile, Gray turned back to face his guildmates, knowing that Natsu wouldn't make it in time.
"ICED-" but he was interrupted by the voice of another, a clear voice that rang through the stadium as the atmosphere grew chilly.
"SHIELD!"
