"See ya tomorrow, Satou!" Shuya shouted as they left the gym.

"Bye!" She shouted back.

Kendo practice had let out early as winter break kept coming closer and closer. There was a chill in the air and a promise of a snowfall sometime soon.

Mitsuki wrapped her school coat around her tightly and shivered. She should've grabbed a sweatshirt before she left home this morning as her winter coat was blown to smithereens by Lambo. And she made a quick note to tell her mom they needed to go shopping sometime soon.

The past month had been hectic. Tsuna's antics had gotten crazier and crazier, including his odd performance at the annual pole-knocking game. Then there was the incident when another person came to Namimori: a little five-year-old girl from China named I-pin.

I-pin was even more adorable than Lambo with her large, egg-shaped head and single braid. Of course, their meeting was cut short thanks to Lambo's ten-year bazooka and another explosion from I-pin's timed explosion (and that was how Mitsuki lost her winter coat.)

Just as she passed the street Tsuna's house was on, there was another explosion in the air. Probably Lambo again, she thought and headed towards the house. Better make sure he's okay as neither Tsuna nor Reborn won't.

But the sight in front of Tsuna's house made her stop. A large group of men in suits stood outside Tsuna's house and standing in the middle of them all was a man with blond hair wearing loose khaki pants and a dark green jacket with black fur on the hood.

He had to be an affiliate of Reborn. Tsuna would never allow himself to be seen with someone like him.

"Just Boss's antics again!" Some chuckled as Mitsuki approached. She looked up at the house to see Tsuna standing at his bedroom window, looking down at everyone.

She waved at him, trying to get his attention. "Mitsuki!" He shouted when he finally saw her.

That got the attention of the men standing in the street. "Who're you?" The one that chuckled growled at her.

Mitsuki drew back, surprised. The man was menacing.

"She's a friend of mine from school!" Tsuna shouted and disappeared from the window, no doubt intending to head outside.

"You're a friend of Tsuna's?" The blond-haired one approached.

Up close he was handsome. His hair was shaggy in a wild, don't care way and he had pretty light brown eyes. Overall, he gave off an easy-going vibe with the way he was slouched.

"I am," Mitsuki replied and bowed. "Satou Mitsuki. It's nice to meet you."

He returned her bow, though not as deep as Mitsuki—definitely a foreigner, maybe even a westerner, Mitsuki thought—and smiled. "Cavallone Dino."

Definitely a foreigner. Tsuna appeared at Dino's elbow, looking harried. "Hi Tsuna."

"Hi," he wheezed out, apparently having run down the stairs. "Dino, why don't you stay for dinner? Mitsuki, Mom says you are welcome to stay too."

"That sounds great." Dino smiled at the two of them. "I'd love a chance to give some advice to my little brother."

"Brother?" Mitsuki titled her head and looked between Dino and Tsuna. They looked nothing alike.

"We're not biological brothers." Dino said as he slung an arm over Tsuna's shoulder. "You might find it hard to believe but I was Reborn's student before Tsuna."

"Really?"

"Yup. And I've come all the way to Japan from Italy to visit my little brother." He gave Tsuna a small shake. Tsuna smiled.

Wow, an affiliate of Reborn who wasn't trying to kill Tsuna for some reason or another. Dina detached himself from Tsuna and turned towards the men outside. "I'm staying at the young Vongola's house tonight. So all of you head on back and I'll meet you tomorrow."

As the rest of Dino's men left, Dino ushered them into the house where, after Mitsuki made a quick phone call home, they sat down for dinner made by Mrs. Sawada who was extremely happy to have friends of Tsuna over.

Dino shed his coat as he sat down, revealing an intricate tattoo running down his left arm. "So ask me anything, my cute sworn brother." He teased as they all took rice portions.

Tsuna looked taken aback but before he could say anything, Dino continued on. "Oh yeah, do you have a family yet?"

Mitsuki titled her head in confusion. Was he from the same mafia Reborn kept talking about? Was that why he was here.

"Of course." Reborn spoke. "There's Gokudera Hayato and Yamamoto Takeshi. And a couple more candidates: Hibari Kyoya and Sasagawa Ryohei."

"They're just my friends and seniors!" Tsuna interjected, shaking his head.

For a split second, Dino's eyes drifted to Mitsuki before looking back at Reborn. Mitsuki frowned but said nothing. Instead, she shoved some rice in her mouth and chewed. But she was all too-aware that Reborn had left out her name.

"But why did you come to someone like me, Reborn?" Tsuna asked after a moment. "You seemed to be doing just fine with Dino-san."

"Vongola is the center of the allied families," Dino responded. "That's why it gets top priority in every aspect. All decisions many families make, they make it with Vongola's interests in mind."

"Vongola is that important?" Tsuna gasped and his face went pale. "I'm even more scared."

All the while, Tsuna's mother took the information in stride. Even though both Dino and Reborn mentioned the mafia, she said nothing. "Oh my Dino-kun," she said finally, "you spilled all your food." She giggled.

Indeed most of Dino's food slipped off his chopsticks during the meal, all over the table. He looked sheepish and tried to clean up his mess. Mrs. Sawada stood up to get a towel.

"Dino is useless when he's not with his men," Reborn said to Tsuna.

"What?" Tsuna and Mitsuki asked at the same time.

"He's the type who can only use his powers for his family or in front of them," Reborn explained. "Without his men around, he becomes useless."

"That's ridiculous!" Tsuna exclaimed while Mitsuki looked from Dino to the fallen food on the table. She couldn't imagine such a cool-looking guy being a klutz when he wasn't with the group of men from earlier.

Dino smiled uneasily. "Don't tell him that Reborn, he'll actually believe it. I usually use forks and knives back in Italy so I haven't had much practice with chopsticks," he explained as Mrs. Sawada handed him a towel.

That explained the bow from earlier too, it was probably his first time to Japan. But his Japanese was fluent if a little shaky at times.

"That must explain it." Tsuna turned to Reborn. "Don't tell lies."

"It's not a lie."

"I'll prepare a bath for you," Mrs. Sawada said as she left the room again.

"Bath?" Dino looked up from cleaning his mess, eyebrow raised as he looked to one of them as if asking for an explanation.

"We normally take baths at night," Mitsuki explained. "It's a way to unwind after a long day."

The older man nodded slowly. "I think I remember reading something about that," he said.

"KYAAAAA!" Mrs. Sawada screamed from upstairs.

At the same time, Tsuna and Dino leapt up from their chairs. But Dino tripped and face-planted into the floor.

"Are you okay?" Mitsuki asked, alarmed, dropping to her knees to check Dino for any injuries.

Dino sat up, slowly rubbing his head. "I stepped on my own foot," he said sheepishly.

Both Tsuna and Mitsuki stared incredulously at him. "You see," Reborn piped up, "he really is a klutz."

Mrs. Sawada burst back into the dining room. "The bathtub!" She shouted. "Something in the bathtub!"

Both Mitsuki and Tsuna scrambled for the stairs, taking two steps at a time, until the sight in the bathroom stopped them both cold. "You gotta be kidding me!" Mitsuki shrieked when she saw the turtle in the tub.

It was huge. It was already too big for the tub but it still seemed to be growing. "What is that, Tsuna?" She asked him nervously, eying the sharp spikes on the turtle's back.

"Crap." Dino appeared behind Mitsuki. "Enzio, how did he get in there?"

"Enzio?" Mitsuki asked at the same time Tsuna exclaimed, "that turtle from earlier?"

"Enzio is a Sponge Snapping Turtle," Reborn said. "He swells up if he's immersed in water."

"I've never heard of a turtle like that!" Mitsuki backed away from the turtle as it continued to get bigger and bigger.

"The enlarged Enzio becomes feral and will devour a house whole," Reborn continued as if Mitsuki hadn't said anything.

Dino put his hand on Mitsuki's shoulder and pushed her back to allow himself into the bathroom. "Stand back," he said and held something aloft. "It would be a shame for the Cavallone Family if their boss can't take care of his own pet."

He owned that thing?

Dino swung what Mitsuki recognized a whip. "Calm down, Enzio!" He shouted. But the whip struck Tsuna in the face.

"Ow!" Tsuna hopped up and down in pain, holding his face.

"Sorry, sorry!" Dino turned to Tsuna. "I slipped."

In front of them, Enzio began to eat the tub.

Dino flicked his whip again, hitting Tsuna in the face once more. Tsuna let out a high-pitch scream and Mitsuki grabbed him and dragged him backwards to safety. But somehow, Dino's whip managed to find her face and she let out a scream of pain. It stung and she clapped her hand over her forehead.

"Sorry!" Dino shouted over the sounds of Enzio and shrieks of pain.

Tsuna dropped to the floor and crawled over to Reborn who was watching everyone struggle. "Do something Reborn!" He pleaded.

Reborn cocked his head. "But he told us not to interfere."

Mitsuki ducked from another wayward whip strike. "He'll put us all in the hospital or Enzio will destroy the house!"

Reborn held his hand up and Leon crawled onto it. "I guess it can't be helped." He tossed Leon onto Tsuna's face and a green glow engulfed his head.

When it subsided, Tsuna's head had transformed into an older man with glasses and a mustache. Mitsuki vaguely remembered seeing him outside before.

Dino noticed him right away. "Romario?" He yelped. "I thought you went back with the others?" But his face turned serious and he turned back to Enzio. "I'll take care of this."

And miraculously, the whip wrapped around Enzio's neck and Dino pulled. "Forgive me Enzio," he said as the turtle flailed. "Take a nap for a while."

Eventually, the turtle stopped moving and Dino let go of it and it slumped to the floor with an audible 'thump.' Mitsuki's back found the wall and she let out a sigh of relief, still holding onto her smarting cheek. "First Gokudera, then Hibari-senpai, and now this."

"I'm sorry about that." Dino squatted in front of Mitsuki. "I'll get you some ice for that."

"Thanks."

Once Enzio had dried off, he shrunk back to his normal size which turned out to be the size of a small cat. Mrs. Sawada served them dessert before Mitsuki thanked her for the meal and left for home.

On the way, Mitsuki reflected the incidents that happened over the past couple of months. First Reborn showed up, and the Gokudera, and Dino. All of them claimed to be from the mafia. She looked back to where Tsuna's house was. Could they really be telling the truth? She wondered. Are they really from the Mafia?

-x-

The next day, she also found the men in suits waiting outside Tsuna's house again. "They're still here?" She asked the flabbergasted Tsuna. She edged nervously around a man cleaning his gun nonchalantly.

"Yeah." Tsuna nodded.

The man with the glasses and mustache (the one Leon transformed Tsuna into) approached Tsuna. "Buongiorno, Tenth!"

"Uh... hi?" Tsuna squeaked nervously.

"I think that means hello in Italian," Mitsuki whispered to him. She didn't know any Italian but she could guess. Hellos were pretty easy to learn.

Behind them, the front door to Tsuna's opened. Mitsuki and Tsuna turned to see a sleepy Dino leaning against the door frame. "You guys, I didn't ask you to come pick me up," he said sleepily.

The men in front of them smiled. "What are you talking about, Boss?" One said. "I didn't come to pick you up. I was simply in the neighborhood."

"I was just taking a stroll and ended up here," another added. And the rest echoed that sentiment.

"From the hotel to here?" Dino asked.

They were all clearly lying, Mitsuki noted but none of them seemed to want to come out and say they were actually waiting for him. Whatever kind of group they are, they really do admire Dino.

"GOOD MORNING TENTH!" Someone shouted in both Tsuna and Mitsuki's ears.

Both of them jumped as Gokudera popped up by Tsuna's elbow. "I woke up early, so I was wandering around and ended up here," he explained.

Liar.

"Uh, good morning Gokudera-kun," Tsuna said and Mitsuki said the same.

"Who are these guys?" Gokudera jerked his thumb at the group of men and scowled at them.

Before Tsuna or Mitsuki could say anything, Dino approached Gokudera. "Hey, Smoking Bomb brat! It's our first time meeting, right?"

Gokudera looked down to the tattoo on Dino's arm. "Bucking Horse Dino?" He asked. Dino smiled and nodded.

"Hey, Tsuna, Gokudera, Mitsuki!" Yamamoto had arrived, slinging his arms over Tsuna and Gokudera's shoulders. Much to Gokudera's chagrin. "You're going to be late."

"Get off me you baseball freak!" Gokudera snapped as Yamamoto dragged him and Tsuna along, leaving Mitsuki to follow behind.

As they walked to school, Gokudera told them what he knew about Dino and the family he came from.

"The previous leader of the Cavallone Family nearly bankrupted them," he was saying. "And Dino rebuilt it when he took over. Now, they're the third most influential family in the alliance."

"You mean the alliance with whatever family Reborn says he's from. Bongola?" Mitsuki asked.

"Vongala!" Gokudera snapped. "With a V!"

Mitsuki flushed. "I'm sorry that Japanese doesn't have the Vee sound!"

Tsuna opened his mouth to say something just as a red sports car drove up dangerously close to their group. The door opened and a rope flew out. It wrapped around Tsuna's and pulled him into the car!

"Tsuna!" Mitsuki shouted and made a wild dive for him. She missed and landed painfully on the concrete, scraping her knee. The car sped off.

"Tenth!" Gokudera screamed.

"They're Yakuza called the Momokyokai that controls the area around here." Reborn arrived. He stared at the speeding car listlessly until it disappeared around a corner. "You middle-schoolers won't stand a chance against the Yakuza. Leave it to the police."

Neither Yamamoto nor Gokudera seemed to care as they both chases after the car. "Like hell I'd leave it to them!" She heard Gokudera shouted back as they ran off.

"I'll leave the cops to you guys!" Yamamoto also shouted.

"Was it really the Yakuza?" Mitsuki asked Reborn, alarmed.

Reborn said nothing but she heard footsteps approaching. "I like that," the newcomer said and Mitsuki looked up to see Dino. "Their minds are set on rescuing Tsuna. They lost their composure but they're trustworthy."

"Dino? Did you do that?" Mitsuki asked.

He looked down and saw her. "Are you alright?" He held out a hand and helped her up.

"I'm fine." Mitsuki brushed off her skirt but she stopped when a tied up Tsuna was brought forward by two men in suits.

"What are you doing, Dino-san?" Tsuna shouted as the men untied him.

"Sorry, sorry." Dino apologized. "I just had to test your family. Momokyokai is just some imaginary Yakuza group that Reborn made up. They'll probably give up and are on their way home now."

Dino did not know Gokudera. Gokudera would fly to the moon for Tsuna. And Yamamoto would follow out of sheer curiosity.

"Tsuna, you're a lucky guy," Dino continued. "There haven't many members who are so thoughtful of their boss lately."

Tsuna blushed. "They're just my f-friends," he mumbled bashfully. Mitsuki smiled and nudged his shoulder in reassurance. He looked at her and slowly smiled. "Thanks."

"No problem."

"Ah, I forgot," Reborn said. "Momokyokai is a real Yakuza group in this town."

Horror coiled in Mitsuki's got. And judging by the expressions on Dino and Tsuna's faces, they felt the same thing.

"They really went to the Yakuza territory?" Dino shouted at Reborn. "What are you thinking Reborn? The opponents aren't just some punks or delinquents! There's no way those kids can win against them!"

Reborn smiled. "That's true. I heard that they're very strong in martial arts."

"W-what?" Mitsuki choked out.

"God Reborn, why do you have to do stuff like this?" Dino scolded.

"What are you going to do if they get hurt?" Tsuna added.

Reborn said nothing but tilted his head. "Reborn?" Tsuna asked. And then a little bubble blew out of his noise.

Both Dino and Tsuna slapped their foreheads. "He's sleeping!" Tsuna groaned.

"What're we going to do?" Mitsuki asked.

"Tsuna, we're going to go help out your family." Dinoa grasped Tsuna by the arm and pulled him along.

"Wait up!" Mitsuki called and ran after them.

Tsuna protested all the way, saying he didn't want to go to a Yakuza's hangout. Mitsuki followed silently, clutching her bag and praying Mochida wouldn't be too angry with her for skipping.

"Here it is," Dino announced when they arrived at a random building.

In front of the door they found a forgotten school bag. "It's Yamamoto's," Mitsuki confirmed and picked it up.

"Of course they came. Okay, let's go." Without further ado, he pushed the door open.

Inside was chaos. Gokudera had a man by his collar. "Spill it!" He ordered. "Tell me where the Tenth is."

Yamamoto had another guy by his collar but he had passed out and Yamamoto let him fall to the floor.

Both of them looked up to see the three of them in the door. Gokudera immediately let go of the man he was holding and he and Yamamoto bounded over to them. "Tenth, you're safe!" Gokudera wailed in happiness. He grabbed Tsuna and pulled him into his chest in a bone-crushing hug.

"You look alright." Yamamoto added, smiling.

Mitsuki let out a sigh of relief and adjusted her bag strap over her shoulder. She rolled it a couple times, trying to work out the ache. She should've known Gokudera and Yamamoto would've been able to hand a group of thugs. It wasn't like they were the Yamaguchi-gumi. (1)

"Well that's really something," she heard Dino say softly from next to her. She glanced at him. The blond Italian was smiling as he watched the three boys together.

The door on the far side of the lounge opened and a gang of tough-looking guys spilled out. All were heavily tattooed and most of them were carrying swords. "What the hell is going on?" A man with two swords hanging off his waist rumbled.

Mistsuki froze in terror as the men loomed over them. They look dangerous.

Tsuna, it seemed, had the same idea because his face drained of all color and his eyes nearly popped out of his school.

In front of her, she saw Gokudera's back straighten and she could only imagine the scowl on his face. But Dino stepped up, stopping Gokudera. "They're not like the others you beat up," he said to Gokudera. "Let me handle them."

Mitsuki glanced around the room. None of the guys she saw with Dino earlier were here. She cautiously reached forward and pulled Tsuna back, bracing herself for the worst.

"Leave this opponent to me," Dino said coolly. He turned his gaze to the leader. "I'm the tenth boss of the Cavallone Family, Dino. It's my fault that it turned out like this. I apologize. I'll pay for everyone's medical fees as well as the fee to repair all the equipment. Please accept that offer."

Instead, the man across from Dino scoffed. What family are you talking about?" He sneered. "This is Japan!" Behind him, his men chuckled and grinned. "We'll take the money all right," he said. His eyes narrowed and his hand went to his sword hilt. "But you guys aren't going anywhere."

Dino sighed and reached into his pocket and pulled out his whip. Tsuna made a high-pitched sound in his throat. "You've broke off all negotiations then," he said seriously. "I guess I'll have to return with force." He swung the whip. "Here I come!"

And promptly hit Gokudera in the face. Dino gave him a quick apology and swung again. This time he hit Yamamoto. And on the third swing, he hit himself in the face. All three of them fell to the floor, clutching their faces.

"He doesn't have his men here!" Tsuna yelled.

"We're so screwed," Mitsuki moaned.

But she was drowned out by the Yakuza men howling in laughter. "What the hell was that!" One was doubled over holding his stomach. "He just hit himself!" He straightened up and brandished his sword. "Make sure they never talk again!" He ordered.

This time Tsuna did scream. Mitsuki dropped her bag and reached for her shinai. She could hold some of them off, she could.

She heard Tsuna gasp from next to her and she looked over. Tsuna fell to the floor, blood spurting out of his forehead. She didn't stop there, her eyes moved to the window behind her and she swore she saw a glint before she heard two soft pops.

"REBORN!" Tsuna screamed angrily, knocking Mitsuki over with his enormous hands. "Beat up the Yakuza with my dying will!"

As she held her smarting head, she watched Tsuna leap into the fray of startled Yakuza. He knocked several of them down with his over-large hands.

"Tsuna's pretty good," she heard Dino say from his spot on the floor.

"Tsuna, watch out!" Mitsuki yelled when she caught sight of a man sneaking up on him with his sword raised.

But as Tsuna turned to counter him, she saw a stick of something hit the man before he exploded into smoke and fire.

Both Gokudera and Yamamoto stood up and joined Tsuna in the middle of the room. "Tenth, you okay?" Gokudera asked, holding his dynamite.

"We'll help you out," Yamamoto added, raising his fists.

"These guys," she heard Dino say from his spot.

"We can't lost to these guys either Boss." Someone said from behind Mitsuki. She and Dino turned to see a group of suit-clad men. Dino's men, she realized. "Why are you slacking off by yourself?" The one with the glasses spoke. "That's uncool."

Dino grinned weakly. "God you guys are so nosy," he said. But as he spoke, his demeanor changed. He reverted back to his "cool-guy" pose and brandished his whip. "Okay, let's have fun!" He exclaimed.

It was like watching a circus after that. Tsuna was hitting people with his absurdly large hands, Gokuders was tossing dynamite, Yamamoto and Dino's men were throwing punches, and Dino was elegantly disarming people with his whip.

All the while, Mitsuki was slowly backing up to the front of the room. She ducked to avoid a random vase that had been thrown. She leaned down and grabbed the guys' forgotten bags. But as she was standing up, there was movement in the corner of her eye. One of the Yakuza broke away from the fight and was heading right for her!

"Mitsuki!" She heard Yamamoto shout.

Dino's head whipped around. "Oh no!" He shouted and moved to flick his wrist.

"I'll take out the woman!" The Yakuza was shouting.

In a split second she moved. Right swing up, she noted as she dropped her bag. She groped for her other bag and unsheathed her shinai. Simple cross and block! She caught his sword on its path up and blocked it. He didn't have much force behind his swing and she barely buckled.

Knock his sword off balance, she recited to herself as she pushed her weight against him. She must've caught him off guard because in a real match she never would have been able to push him off. He probably had at least fifty pounds on her. And forward strike! She lunged forward, aiming for a point on him.

Thwack! She got him right in the throat. He staggered backwards, coughing and choking, and fell down. In a moment, she realized what she had done. Oh my god, she lowered her shinai. She hit him in the throat without a guard. Had she been older with more muscle mass, she could've done some serious damage.

"Nice one!" Dino was there, checking the man on the floor. "You knocked him cold."

How had she managed to do that? "I hit him in the throat," she whispered in shock. "I could've really hurt him." She looked back at the other three boys. Gokudera and Yamamoto were saying something to a half-naked Tsuna—who was blushing. None of them seemed disturbed at the fact they were just in a fight. Gokudera was throwing dynamite for God's sake!

Dino's face softened when he looked back up at her. "That's a risk you have to take in the mafia, Mitsuki." He stood back up and put his hands on her shoulders. "Are you alright?"

She nodded. "Yeah, I'm okay." She shrugged out of his grip. "Yeah," she repeated. "I'm fine." She grabbed the bag for her shinai and shouldered all of her bags.

"Mitsuki, you're okay!" Yamamoto bounded over to her, grinning widely. "I was worried for a sec when that guy got away."

Normally she would've blushed and stammered but she only managed a faint blush. "I can handle myself, you know," she joked. In the corner of her eye she saw Dino frown at her but thankfully, he didn't say anything.

Instead, he began to grin like an idiot and addressed the boys. "I'm impressed," he announced. "You guys can totally take care of Tsuna. I'm perfectly okay with leaving him to you."

This time it was Gokudera who blushed. She could feel the pride radiating off of Gokudera.

Tsuna could only stutter out a thanks. "Now I have to go patch up my men," Dino said. "Some of them got a little roughed up back there."

"It's only a scratch!" Someone protested.

"I won't let injuries go untreated," Dino said swiftly. "We should get you guys looked at. And we need to call an ambulance for these guys." He turned back to the four of them. "You guys should get going. Go take it easy for awhile."

Dino and his men filed out the building. "He's a pretty cool guy, huh?" Yamamoto said as Mitsuki handed them their bags.

"Yeah, Dino's pretty cool," Gokudera said reluctantly.

"I thought you said you didn't like him," Tsuna said in surprise.

"He's not bad," he replied.

Mitsuki forced a laugh but as they walked back towards Tsuna's house, her stomach kept doing flip flops as she continued to think about her shinai ramming itself into the man's throat.

"What an interesting development," Reborn spoke aloud as he watched the four teens walking down the road. "Very interesting."

"You've got some good choices picked out." Dino came up from behind him. The blond sat down on the roof's edge, next to his former tutor. "They were ready to defend Tsuna in an instant."

"Yes they were." Reborn kept his eyes trained on the lone figure trudging behind the group.

Dino's eyes landed on the same person Reborn was watching. "Did you see it?" He asked.

"No hesitation," Reborn stated. "In a split second, she aimed right for his throat. With no hesitation." He smiled. "Just like a hitman would."

"So Yamamoto Takeshi, Gokudera Hayato, and Satou Mitsuki. You've got an excellent start to Tsuna's family," Dino said.

"Gokudera and Yamamoto, yes." Reborn nodded. "But as for Mitsuki. I still need to watch her more. But today, she made a step in the right direction."

No hesitation. Reborn smiled, satisfied. Tsuna, Yamamoto, and Gokudera weren't the only ones he was testing.
