Clary watched the two of them together and smiled softly careful not to make a sound. She didn't want them to know she was awake yet. This was one of her favorite times of day and she treasured every moment. Jace sat in the rocking chair in the corner of their room rocking Maggie softly. He stroked her face and hummed a lullaby in French. The normally loud tones of his voice were soft and muted in the early morning stillness and the sunlight ringed his head in a halo of gold. His forehead connected with the smaller one of their daughters making Clary's heart melt. Now two months old, Maggie was sprouting more red gold hair and her eyes were open and intelligent making Clary's heart leap whenever she saw her. Maggie was a perfect mix of them both and Clary couldn't love them more.

It had been hard at first, adjusting to being parents and the healing process was slow, seeing as she had almost died. Two months later Clary was only allowed on duty inside the institute due to the shattered pelvis she had sustained when Maggie was born. Iratzi runes healed but even those had their limitations.

Clary studied the lines of their faces in the early morning light and knew that the angel had been generous giving them both to her. She knew that she had more than she had ever dreamed and she could not ask for more. She felt a chill run down her spine as she remembered the angel's words when she had come back from death, about the darkness that would come against their precious girl. She knew that if the angel foretold it, it would happen and she feared those who would use Maggie for her gifts.

She must have made a sound because Jace looked up met her eyes. The smile that lit his face was the same one he gave her every time he saw her. Gone was the boy who never showed emotion. In his place was one of the most grateful men on earth. He was still a smartass but a loving one.

"Hey slacker, bout time you got up, Maggie's been nagging my head off to have breakfast." He smiled as he carefully brought their precious girl to her. He sat beside her on the bed and handed the baby to Clary. Clary felt her fears flee as she looked down into her daughter's sleepy eyes. The baby gurgled in happiness and Clary breathed in her sweet scent as she brought her closer.

"I know she is so demanding." Clary said with a laugh as she situated her and began to feed the baby. Jace ran his hand down her chin and pulled a lock of her hair giving her that same crooked smile that always slayed her. "She never stops nagging."

"hmm" Jace said with a growl as he curled his long body around them both "I guess I'm going to have to keep after you, one of us has to be responsible, or she might die of starvation."

"Looking forward to it." Clary laughed up at him as she brushed her hands over her daughters wings and cheek. Jace leaned down and gently kissed her. Clary felt herself stir and deepened the kiss. Jace groaned and laced his hands through her hair. He broke the kiss when the baby grunted in displeasure.

"The boss has spoken" Jace said with a sigh as he released her hair and her lips. Clary smiled because she couldn't imagine a more perfect moment. Maggie sighed and her wings flexed under Clary's hand reminding Clary of her earlier worries. She shivered and curled closer into Jace suddenly very afraid of what was coming next.
