District Three Reapings: The Reserved and The Social Butterfly

"Ignorance is bold and knowledge reserved."

- Thucydides

Faye Wood, 15
Location - District Three (Bolton High School: Home of The Diviners)

Faye sighed as the bell finally rang. She was going on to eighth period, Mr. Balestrom. He was a short pudgy man who was absolutely boring. When can she finally get out of this place? She never liked this school at all, and nobody really talked to her except for her best friend, Yvette.

And guess what?

Yvette is sick! How can she just leave Faye here with all of these losers?

"Miss Wood, would you like to list the essentials in order for lightning to form?"

Faye froze. The teachers never usually picked her. She didn't even raise her hand.

Faye chose her words carefully.

"Ice, hail, and frozen water drops." Faye said quickly. She didn't bother saying the answer in a complete sentence. Faye didn't like talking. She wanted to fade in the background, but the stupid Science teacher had to ask her the stupid question.

"Correct! Now Mr. Jackson, what do you have to do to avoid getting struck by lightning?"

Before Eric Jackson could answer the question, Faye said, "I'm going to the bathroom."

Mr. Balestrom nodded as he continued on with his class.

Truth was, Faye didn't really need to go to the bathroom. She just needed to get out of that place.

Faye quickly rushed down the hall towards the door. But she came to an abrupt stop when she heard the sound of a little kid crying.

It was a little blond boy. He had the most vibrant blue eyes which was filled with sadness.

"What's wrong, sweetie?" Faye asked, kneeling beside the little kid.

The little kid kept on sobbing. He leaned against Faye, tears staining her plain crimson dress. Faye rubbed his back.

"I don't like school!" He choked out.

She grinned. "I don't like school either, but I still come to this jailhouse anyways."

"Then why do you come?" He blubbered.

"So I can learn new stuff and make friends. I'm guessing your in beginnings? Right?"

"Yes." He whimpered.

"Tell you what. I'm a sophmore in high school which means it is my second year. We have a lot of work to do. But the lower grades don't really get a lot of work. If I had the chance to move back to beginnings, I would go back because it is so much fun. And I hate doing work."

"Really?" the boy said, wiping his tears.

"And your a long way from high school, sweetie. By the time your in the second year of high school, I'll probably be a grandma with fifty cats." Faye grinned.

The little boy burst into laughter.

"Now go back into class. I promise you. It will be so much fun."

The boy smiled. He quickly got up, and ran back inside his classroom.

Faye sighed. She managed to get that over with. Even though she didn't like talking that much, she felt like she had some sort of connection with children. She felt like she needed to protect and love them just like a normal mother would.

Faye finally reached home. Her parents were gone, probably at work or at the market. As she walked towards the kitchen, a box caught her eye in the living room.

"Hmm... I wonder what my parents brought home."

As she peered the inside the box, Faye gasped.

"The iPod Chip is here!" she exclaimed.

It was a small glossy black chip that could play music for a long period of time. She looked for the tiny switch so she could activate the chip. She switched it on, but no music was heard.

"Damn it... No batteries." she sighed.

She tossed the chip back inside the box.

Faye looked at the clock. It was an hour before the Reaping starts.

"I'm going to sleep."

"A lot of people think I'm stuck up. Pretty much that I'm arrogant. I only do that when I'm on the field."

Alexander Turbine, 17
Location - District Three (Rusty's Repair Shop)

Alexander's eyes darted back and forth from the clock. Rusty's Repair Shop was about to close because it was Reaping Day. Alexander really wanted to get out of the gloomy little shack. He worked as a clerk and a person who fixes broken electronics.

Finally, the little bell rang, and a girl with spiky hair came into the room. She was carrying a box full of electronics.

"Here's a box of broken smartphones. Stupid people shouldn't even have these things." the redhead sighed.

Alexander smirked. "I know... Have you seen that ten year old with newest iPear phone? Jesus Christ!"

"Check this one out, Alexa." the girl said, tossing him a broken phone.

"It's Alexan- Holy!" Alexander gasped.

The pear-shaped smartphone was mutilated. It had cracks and scratches all over the place.

"I know, right? Such irresponsible people."

"Well, Miss Wood. I don't really care about these people. I need to at least work on one phone, and close up for the day."

"It's alright, I don't even like this place anyway." Faye said while sauntering out of the small building.

Alexander sighed as he placed the box of phones on a glass table. He took out one iPear phone, and looked at it with his brown eyes. It had several long scratches on the wide screen.

He simply pulled out a screw driver, and he took out the glass. He easily replaced it with a box full of spare glass screens.

Then he attached the glass to the front part of the phone with a screw driver.

"Such an easy job, but stupid people make it so complicated. I really don't get it. If people weren't so irresponsible, this job wouldn't even exist." he said to himself.

"THERE! Good as new!" He beamed.

Alexander gingerly placed the phone in a box that read: FIXED CELLPHONES.

After that, he closed up the shop, and he went over to the Town Square.

Alex sighed as the stupid video began playing on a giant transparent screen. It was the same video every year on how the rebels failed, and the Capitol won. Really stupid.

"Wasn't that a lovely video? It's one of my favorite parts of Reaping Day!" the annoying escort chirped.

"Now here is my favorite part, picking out the name of the lucky soul who MIGHT win the Hunger Games.

"Yvette Cordova!"

"NO! I VOLUNTEER!" a recognizable female voice shouted.

It was the new employee at Rusty's Repair Shop, Faye Wood.

"Wow, what a pleasant surprise! The first volunteer of District Three! May we have your name?"

"Faye Wood." the girl mumbled as her best friend sadly walked down the stage.

"Well, it's time for the males... Colin Storms!"

That was it... The perfect time for Alexander Turbine to volunteer. He hated his life. Nothing exciting had ever happened, plus his job stunk. The money he made wasn't enough to pay for the whole entire family. And it was a good opportunity to save one of the very few people he knew.

"I volunteer!" shouted Alexander.

Hey guys! Sorry for not updating in such a long time. I got so lazy all of a sudden, but the movie Catching Fire inspired me to continue. And Wizard101 kind of got me sidetracked, and I play too much with my iPhone 5s. I love you guys, and I hope you will stick with this story! :D
