Zatanna, the mistress of magic appeared on the transporter pad after foiling one of Lex Luthor's smuggling rings. She wore a skimpy outfit that a Muggle magician might wear with the top half of a tuxedo and panty hose. Zatanna stretched to work the kinks out of her body and headed towards the green Martian who was working the main computer console.

"Anything else for me J'onn?" Zatanna wondered.

"I have two new missions for you," J'onn replied. "First of all, you're needed at Hogwarts."

"Ooh, sounds intriguing!" Zatanna purred. "Why is that?"

"Lex Luthor is trying to recruit Voldemort into his gang," the Martian revealed.

"You have got to be kidding!" the female magician blurted out.

"I wish I was," the green superhero sighed.

"Do you think Lex can really tempt someone like Voldemort?" Zatanna asked in disbelief.

"I wouldn't put anything past Luthor," J'onn grunted.

"What's the second mission?" the powerful performer inquired.

"You need to take a turn guarding our young charge," the Martian explained.

"You mean?" Zatanna gasped.

"Yes," J'onn replied.

"Oh, J'onn!" Zatanna cried out in glee as she threw her arms around the Martian's neck. "I've been looking forward to this for ages!"

"I'm aware of that," the Martian Manhunter declared. "Remember, the mission at Hogwarts takes precedence."

"Fine," Zatanna sighed as she left for her room to change.

Since she didn't think that her current outfit was appropriate for an audience with Albus Dumbledore, Zatanna headed to her room and changed into orange flowing robes. She then headed for the same transporter pad she had arrived on. Upon riding a yellow beam of light, she found herself facing the front gate of Hogwarts.

She opened the gate and discovered that there were not many people walking about the grounds. This was no surprise since it was still summer. She walked slowly towards the front door so she could wrap the memories of her former life around her like a blanket. Zatanna entered the entrance hall and took a brief stop in the Great Hall so she could visit the spot where she and Lily Evans often sat together.

"Oh, Lily," Zatanna thought silently. "How I miss you."

Upon waking up from her thoughts, Zatanna headed for the office of Minerva McGonagall and knocked on the door.

"Hello, Katie," Professor McGonagall greeted when she opened the door. "What can I do for you?"

"First, may I please have one of your famous cookies, Minerva?" the former Katie McGwire asked.

"Of course," McGonagall replied as she let Zatanna into her office and handed her a cookie. "That's not the only reason you came to see me, is it?"

"I need to see Professor Dumbledore at once," Zatanna requested.

"Follow me," McGonagall answered as she led her guest to the stone gargoyle and waved it aside. Zatanna rode the staircase up to the top level and knocked on the door.

"Come in," Dumbledore ordered.

Katie opened the door to find Remus Lupin and Albus Dumbledore arguing over a letter that Dumbledore had just gotten.

"Remus!" Zatanna called out as she gave her old friend a hug. "It's good to see you!"

"It's good to see you too, Katie," Remus replied.

"I haven't heard that name for a long time," Zatanna laughed.

"I'm aware of that," Remus answered. "I hear you've been running around with a higher class of people these days."

"That's why I'm here," Katie reported.

"Is that so?" Dumbledore asked.

"You should be aware that one of my most dangerous enemies Lex Luthor is trying to recruit Voldemort into his gang of villains," Zatanna revealed getting a deep shiver from Remus at the mention of Voldemort's name.

"That is most disturbing news," Dumbledore sighed. "I appreciate you coming here to tell me."

"If there is nothing else there is someone else that I am most desperate in get in touch with," Zatanna declared.

"As a matter of fact, there is," Dumbledore replied.

"What?" the magician wondered.

"Katie, I am being forced to employ Delores Umbridge as my new Defense teacher," Dumbledore explained. "If you could help me keep an eye on her, I could come up with a position for you this year."

"I'll have to ask," Zatanna spoke.

"I imagine young Harry could use someone to watch over him these days," Dumbledore mused.

"I'd be glad to!" Zatanna beamed.

"I thought you would," Remus piped up.

"Furthermore, I am missing a groundskeeper at the moment," Dumbledore said. "Would you have any ideas on someone I could use for a temporary replacement?"

"I think I have someone in mind," Zatanna answered with a smile.

Zatanna left Dumbledore's office and started to head for the entrance hall when one of her least favorite people in the whole world, Severus Snape emerged from the dungeons.

"Hello, Katie," Snape called out.

"Drop the act, Severus!" Katie cried out as she wanted to slap Snape as hard as she could across the face. "We are not friends and we never will be!""To what do I owe the nature of this hostility?" the potions master asked.

"Oh, please!" the magician snapped. "Because of you, my godson has had to live with those horrid people! If I was any less civilized, I would knock your block off here and now and don't think that I couldn't do it!"

"I have always regretted that," Snape sighed.

"Sure you have!" Zatanna argued. "It's starting to smell a little foul in here! Excuse me!"

Zatanna ran off with an enormous storm cloud hanging over her head. She was worried that she would have spend a school year working next to that horrible man. At least her next mission would be a lot more enjoyable. With that calming thought, she headed back for the front gate. When she got outside, she pushed a button in the cuff of her left sleeve.

"I'm ready," she called out and a yellow beam of light carried her back to the tower.

"Dumbledore would like me to go undercover for the next school year to take care of a problem of his and to keep an eye on Harry," Zatanna told the Martian.

"I'll take it under advisement," J'onn declared.

"Where's he?" the female magician asked.

"He is at home in is room," J'onn replied. "Batman is watching the house at the moment."

"Tell Bruce to keep his distance," Zatanna ordered. "Harry and I need to be alone."

"Understood," the Martian answered.

"Are his aunt and uncle at home?" the young performer wondered.

"Yes," the green superhero said.

"I'll need to get Harry outside," Zatanna requested.

"I'll take care of it," the alien replied as he pushed a button on his console. "Flash, report for monitor duty."

Zatanna headed to her room to put on some Muggle clothing when a red flash of light nearly knocked her over. She shook her head as she decided that Flash was the most annoying man on the planet.

Harry Potter sat in his room reading Quidditch Through The Ages as the moving pictures zoomed all over the page. Ah, this was a golden age since he didn't have to hide his magical stuff under the floorboard anymore. He briefly closed his magazine when he saw Vernon Dursley wonder in his room in a little bit of a daze.

"Go to the market and get me a carton of milk, boy!" Mr. Dursley ordered in a slightly slurred voice.

"O-kay," Harry stuttered in surprise as he grabbed his wallet and shoes.

Harry opened the front door meaning to the buy the carton of milk. However, when he closed the door, he found a woman with long black hair and a purple dress staring at him.

"Hello," Harry cautiously greeted.

"Oh, Harry!" the woman squealed as she threw her arms around him and kissed his cheek. "I've wanted to see you for ages!"

"Uh…" Harry choked out as his face turned bright red. "Wait, are you Zatanna?"

"Yes, I am," Zatanna purred as she held Harry at arms length. "You look exactly like I thought you would."

"Have we met?" Harry asked with his eyebrows raised.

"We have met, but I'm not surprised that you don't remember me," Zatanna declared. "You were just a baby."

"I think I have to go buy a carton of milk," Harry called out.

"Never mind that," Harry's guest refused. "Your uncle won't remember asking for it.""Sure," Harry agreed.

"Let's go somewhere for dinner," Zatanna ordered. "My treat. We have a lot to talk about."

"Thank you," Harry answered.

"Where would you like to go?" Zatanna questioned.

"There's this Chinese restaurant close by that I like," Harry replied.

"Lead the way," the magician requested.

"Say," Harry blurted out as a thought came to him. "Is anyone else watching us."

"Yes, but he promised to keep his distance so we could be alone," Zatanna replied.

"Where?" Harry inquired as he looked all over the place. "I don't see anyone."

"He doesn't want you to see him," Zatanna laughed. "He's very good at that."

Harry and his guest arrive at Taste Of The Orient in the next fifteen minutes. It was a charming restaurant where lanterns with dragons on them hung from the ceiling and the tables had red cloths over them. There was also an ornamental mirror hanging in the front of the room

"Order whatever you like," Zatanna commanded as she and Harry looked at the menus.

"I'll have the Kung Pao chicken and the Egg Foo Young," Harry decided.

"I'll have the sweet and sour chicken," Zatanna added.

"Sounds good," Harry answered.

"Harry, I have a present for you," Zatanna revealed after the waiter came to take their orders.

"Oh, boy!" Harry exclaimed when the magician took a small gift wrapped package from her purse.

Harry took the gift from Zatanna and eagerly ripped open the paper. He wondered what gift his new friend could possibly be giving him. When he finally finished unwrapping the package, he saw a picture of Zatanna and his mother.

"My mum!" Harry cried out.

"Of course," Zatanna giggled.

"So you did know her," Harry spoke out being a little short of breath.

"Oh, there's more to it than that," Zatanna revealed. "You see, I am your godmother."

"You're kidding me!" Harry spat.

"No, I am not," Zatanna replied as Harry got a desperate idea.

"Can I stay with you?" Harry begged.

"I wish you could, but I lead a dangerous life," Zatanna refused.

"And I don't?" Harry complained.

"Harry, I've dealt with monsters who could make even Voldemort quake in his boots," Zatanna explained.

"I find that hard to believe," Harry stated when the food came.

"It's a big universe," Zatanna mused. "Look, I love you, but I just can't. I'm sorry."

Harry took a bite of his chicken to cure his disappointment. When took a drink of his apple juice, he took a look in the mirror and saw the reflection of a giant bat slinking by outside. This made Harry choke and spit out some of his juice.

"Harry, are you okay?" Zatanna whined as she ran over and patted his back.

"Bat! Big bat!" Harry choked out as he pointed at the mirror with a shaking hand.

"It's okay, Harry," Zatanna sighed as she vowed to give Bruce Wayne a piece of her mind. "He's on our side."

"One of your friends?" Harry asked.

"Well, I'm not feeling very friendly towards him at the moment," Zatanna grumbled, sitting back down. "So, any young ladies in your life yet?"

"Ah, no," Harry squeaked as he started to blush.

"But, you'd like there to be?" Zatanna pushed with a sly grin.

"I guess," Harry sighed.

"What's her name?" Zatanna sang out.

"Cho Chang," Harry answered. "She's the Ravenclaw seeker."

"Is she pretty?" Zatanna teased.

"Can we talk about something else?" Harry demanded.

"What would you like to talk about?" Zatanna conceded.

"Did my mum and dad always get along?" Harry wondered.

"That's a laugh!" Zatanna chortled. "Lily couldn't stand James in the beginning. She thought he was so full of himself. I lost count on all of the fights they had, but I had a feeling that it was just a charade."

"Sounds like Ron and Hermione," Harry replied.

Harry and Zatanna soon finished their dinner and then walked back to Harry's house. His mind was reeling because of all of the things he had learned from his new friend. When he arrived at his door, he gave her a hug.

"I'm glad I met you!" Harry cried out.

"I'm glad I met you too!" Zatanna replied. "Perhaps we'll meet again."

Zatanna watched Harry close the door and then looked around to make sure that no Muggles were looking before taking out her wand.

"Tropelet!" Zatanna called out causing her to appear in the place where she knew Batman was watching.

"A word with you!" Zatanna demanded.

"What?" Batman gruffly replied.

"Do you know that you nearly caused my godson to choke to death?" Zatanna complained.

"Sorry," Batman apologized as if he didn't mean it.
