Construction Site
Trapped in the corner of the wide open construction site, the Potential Slayer's and the White Hats began to panic. There was no escape, no hope.
Angelus stepped from the shadows purposefully standing out of the way from the Turok-Han's path. He grasped his hand around Connor's shoulder pulling him back from jumping in to fight the Übervamp. "All in good time," Angelus told the teen. "It's best not to get in her way."
"Her?" Connor frowned when overhead floodlights slammed on, lightening the entire construction site. He turned his eyes to Buffy standing on top of a half-built wall. Her arms folded across her chest. Connor felt the power radiating off of her body.
"Looks good, doesn't it?" Buffy's eyes were only on the Turok-Han, immediately getting its full attention. "They're trapped in here. Terrified. Meat for the beast. And there's nothin' they can do but wait. That's all they've been doing for days, waiting to be picked off, having nightmares about monsters that can't be killed." Buffy jumped down from the wall, landing on her feet.
Angelus ran his tongue over his blunt teeth smelling the sweet scent of the blood of fear.
"But I don't believe in that. I always find a way," Buffy continued. "I am the thing that monsters have nightmares about. And right now you and me are gonna show 'em why."
Angelus chuckled, leaning against the scaffold, "Go get him, baby." The excitement rolled off of his body in thick waves.
Buffy was the first to jump into attack; nailing the Übervamp in the head. The Übervamp recovered quickly following its attack with powerful punches into the Slayer's body.
Connor's brows pinched together as he pieced the fragmented conversation he had been telephonically sucked into. He turned his eyes to Angelus with surprise, "You knew about this—you planned this. You knew the witch's spell would fail and it would bring us—everyone here. You knew. You and Buffy…"
"Sometimes the element of surprise is best." Angelus smiled watching the fight ensue. He held his tongue with his forefinger and thumb and whistled. "Hit her again! Hit her again!" Angelus laughed and clapped his hands together when the Übervamp slammed a violent punch straight into Buffy's stomach. "Yes!" Angelus grinned earning an eye-roll from Connor.
From the top of the scaffold, Buffy was slammed into the metal bars, dropping the crossbow in Kennedy's hands to the ground.
Connor started to reach for the weapon to come to the Slayer's aide when Angelus placed his hand over Connor's shoulder. "No," the vampire began. "It's time my son that you learned what a Slayer is."
Listening to his father, Connor stood straight, restraining the desperate need to help Buffy in the fight to the death.
Buffy rolled across the concrete ground, spotting the crossbow at Connor and Angelus' feet. She reached out and snatched the weapon then fired it at the Turok-Han as it rushed her.
The Übervamp clenched its hand around Buffy's throat unfazed by the arrow embedded in its chest. Slowly, the Übervamp lifted the Slayer from the ground exuding power. With a growl he watched Buffy gasp for air.
Buffy reached out the protruding arrow impaled in the vampire's chest and snapped its end and plunged it into the Übervamp's eye.
The Übervamp howled in pain releasing its powerful hold on Buffy. Buffy fell to the ground but quickly regrouped and used the Übervamp's pain to her advantage. She summoned up all of her supernatural Slayer strength and attacked the vampire with bone-crushing kicks and punches.
The Übervamp staggered back on its feet but was unable to gain the upper hand as the Slayer kept the fight in at her advantage. She kicked the Übervamp into the gut and grabbed a spool of barbwires and wrapped the coil around the Turok-Han's neck pulling tight. The vampire struggled to free itself from its fatal position. With a final powerful pull, Buffy decapitated the Übervamp into a cloud of dust.
Silence washed over the construction site. All standing at the scaffold staring down at the fight looked on at the Vampire Slayer with wonderment.
Buffy pulled herself up onto shaky feet. She held her hands out patted the dust of the Turok-Han from her black leather coat. "Dust. Just like the rest of them." Buffy moved across the concrete ground looking up at the scaffold to the Potential Slayers and the Scoobie Gang. "I don't know what's coming next. But I do know… it's all gonna come down just like this. Hard. Painful…" her eyes fell on Angelus' face. He stood ground level with Connor. "… But in the end… It's gonna be us. If we all do our part… Believe it… We'll be the ones left standing. Here endeth the lesson."
The group began to climb down the scuffled to exit the construction site.
Connor stared at the Vampire Slayer in awe. He had never seen anyone fight the way the Slayer had. It all fell into place why Angelus was so attracted to her. She possessed a power that was beyond reach. It radiated off of her in crashing waves. There was no question about it. In fact, Connor felt dumb for doubting her abilities in first place. There was something else radiant about her. It was her aura. He felt before when he first saw her standing in the lobby of the Hyperion Hotel. He just couldn't describe it.
He snapped back into reality when Angelus' pushed himself from where they stood and started towards Buffy, who stood in the centre of the construction site waiting for him.
Neither said a word when Angelus finally reached her. His eyes scanned over her head realising that all of the Scoobie's and Potential girls backs were turned to them. He shifted his gaze downward catching her eyes.
Angelus closed his eyes breathing in the smell of Buffy's blood formed around a small cut over her forehead. He leant forward and ran his tongue over the cut, cleaning it. Buffy drew her head back listening to the demonic sounds of purring coming from the base of Angelus' chest.
Connor stood in the background watching the silent interaction. He assumed they weren't telepathically communicating because he wasn't dragged in. In fact, Connor didn't think they knew that had happened earlier. That's strange.
