Marianne (Girl #2) and Laurence (Boy #5) sat next to each other in the middle of the forest area of the island (around F8). Laurence clutched onto his assigned weapon; a spear. He looked over at Marianne. Her long and curly caramel brown locks blew in the wind. Her big and bold lips stood out on her face, and her small soft nose was barely visible from the side Laurence saw her.

"You're gorgeous, you know." Laurence said to her.

"Shut the hell up." Marianne said without hesitation. She looked over at Laurence and gave him a dirty look. "Remind me again why we're going out?" She asked.

"Because we love each other?" Laurence questioned.

"Wrong," Marianne said, "It's because we're both rich and neither of us want to date poor losers, and because our parents set us up in the first place, okay?"

Laurence gave her a confused look. "I know," He started, "But don't you love me? B-because...I love you." He looked down.

Marianne put her hand on his chin and pushed his face up so that both of their glares met. "I-" She stopped for a moment to think of what to say.

She didn't actually love him. She just acted like it because he was the only person in the entire school who was more rich than her, which was a surprise. But now that The Program had started, she didn't know if she should keep him around or kill him on the spot. But, he had the good weapon. All she had was a pair of night-vision goggles.

"I do love you." She finally said. "And if you loved me too, you would hand me your weapon." She opened up her hand and tilted her head when he grasped his spear tighter in his hand.

"I can't do that...I would probably be better with it anyway." He said to her.

"Why? Because you're a boy?! Just give it to me!" She insisted.

Laurence sighed. "Fine." He handed the long spear to her. It was around three feet long and an inch thick.

"Thank you." She said with a faint smile. She thought about killing him, but then put the thought aside. She knew that she should keep him for a bit longer, just until there were a few other people left. Besides, he trusted her, so what did she have to lose?

Marianne leaned over and layed on Laurence's chest. She grabbed his sweaty hand with her left and squeezed the spear with her right.

"So what's your big plan?" Brooke asked Beck out of nowhere. Beck hadn't spoken about the plan in a long time.

"I'm telling you, I can't say yet. But I have something in mind." Beck replied.

Brooke smiled at him. She leaned over and examined Daysha.

Is she in some kind of coma or something?

Daysha was still unconscious. Brooke placed her hand under Daysha's head and lifted it a bit off the wet grass.

"Daysha." Brooke whispered, hoping for her to respond. But she stayed unconscious.

Beck walked over to Brooke and left Kelly on watch. "Don't even bother." He said when he sat down next to her. "She'll be out for a while."

"How do you know?" Brooke asked.

"By the way she reacted to everything. She didn't know how to handle Charlotte's-you know...so she passed out. And by the way it looks now, it seems that she won't be awake anytime soon." Beck explained.

"Oh..." Brooke paused and looked down at Daysha laying down in front of her. She removed her hand from under Daysha's head.

Beck moved closer to Daysha's body and sweeped some of her black hair out of her face, revealing more of her dark skin. He looked at her longingly.

"Do you..." Brooke looked up at Beck and their eyes met, "Do you still love her?" She finally asked.

Beck squinted his eyes and then formed a huge grin with his mouth. "Well, I'm not sure. All I know is that I do still care about her, like we're still good friends."

Brooke nodded.

"But I don't really know if I love her anymore..." Beck looked down at her and a tear dripped down his face. "I didn't love any of the 13 people that are already dead, but I was still torn when they were killed."

"I was too, and I didn't love any of them either!" Brooke said.

"The thing is that...you don't have to love someone to be sad about them getting hurt or-getting killed." Beck said as more tears came out of his eyes. He wiped the tears away and looked up at Brooke's soft face. "I-" He stopped, then continued. "Can I watch her from now on? Like, even though I've watched over her the whole time and everything, I still want to watch over her now. I don't know. I just want to protect her."

It took Brooke a few seconds to form her words. "Of course!" She blurted out. She coughed quietly. "Of course you can, it's no problem."

"Thanks." Beck said. He moved closer to Daysha and kissed her forehead.

Brooke got up and walked over to Kelly. She was looking out at the low sun.

"How are you?" Brooke asked.

"How am I?" Kelly demanded. She looked Brooke directly in the face. "How am I? How do you think I am? Torn apart, destroyed! How else am I supposed to feel?" Kelly raised her voice. "Am I supposed to feel happy?! Yeah right!"

Brooke muttered a quick 'Oh.' and looked away.

Kelly softly said: "I'm so sorry." She wrapped her arms around Brooke and hugged her for several seconds. "I didn't mean to-"

"It's fine." Brooke said after their embrace ended.

Kelly smiled and hugged Brooke once more. While she was hugging her, she whispered something in her ear. "If there's a winner in the next three days, I hope it's one of us."

"I don't." Brooke said, surprising Kelly.

The faint sunlight was glistening through the branches of the tall trees onto Marianne and Laurence. Laurence hadn't gotten as much sleep as he had hoped to the night before, so he had quickly fallen asleep with Marianne in his arms. Marianne was still wide awake, though. She grasped the spear and peered around the area, in case any other students wandered off into their vicinity.

Marianne lifted her head from Laurence's chest. His body was average, but his arms were big. She thought that keeping him as an ally for a while would be useful because he was probably stronger than most boys in their class...most. That's just because his parents hired a personal trainer for him and he had worked out a lot in the past year..but for some reason only his arms were big.

Laurence's eyes slowly opened. He smiled at the sight of his girlfriend looking into his eyes.

"We shouldn't stay down here." Laurence said as he rubbed his eyes and woke himself up a bit more.

"What do you mean?" Marianne demanded.

"We shouldn't stay out in the open." He said.

"We aren't really in the open..." Marianne said, "But we are clearly visible...the trees!" She concluded quickly. "Now help me climb up this tree." She said in a commanding tone. She pointed to the tall tree behind Laurence. The tree had many branches along the sides of it.

"Alright." Laurence agreed after scanning the tree.

Marianne grabbed her bag and shoved the spear inside, then zipped it shut. She stepped over to the front of the tree and lifted herself up a few feet by using the lowest branch.

"Well!" She said while looking down.

Laurence looked at her for a moment and then pressed his hands against her bottom and pushed up. He kept his hands there for a moment. That was the closest thing to sexual he had ever done to Marianne. In the past, she would never touch him or anything. It's like she thought he was gross. But now, he finally got to touch her plump bottom, and he loved it.

Once Marianne reached the second branch, Laurence's hands couldn't reach her anymore. He started to climb up the tree and was close behind her.

When the two reached higher in the tree, Marianne sat down on a thick branch and extended her legs. She placed her bag on her lap. Laurence sat down adjacent to her on the branch beside hers and did the same with his bag.

"Someone's passing by..." Laurence muttered out of nowhere.

It took Marianne a few seconds to realize what he was saying, but once she did, she looked down to the ground and saw someone walking by holding a grappling hook with four pointy blades at the end of it and a long, thin rope attached to it's bottom.

Josie (Girl #3) searched through the forest. She held her bag and dragged it in the dirt. It was dark and the trees were packed close together. She had gotten into many situations where she had a hard time getting past two tree trunks.

So much time had passed since The Program had started. She had already spent an entire night crying alone in a patch of grass while rain poured on her. While she was in the forest close to the school, she still hadn't run into anyone yet, which she was grateful of.

Josie was in search of her friends. She was a part of the main group of popular girls out of the two classes. She mostly hung out with Jane (Girl #1) and Zina, and she knew that they were going to group up with Britt. She was distraught about the fact that Britt hadn't invited her to join her group and survive together, but she knew that thinking about that for too long would just make her sad, so she threw the thought away. She only wanted to think about actually finding Zina and Jane, not wondering why Britt didn't want her to group up with them.

Josie entered an area that was much more open. More light was shining through the trees and she could finally see more.

Suddenly, she heard some leaves rustle from behind her. She pulled her bag up to her chest and unzipped it. Her weapon, she needed her weapon!

She pulled out her assigned weapon and held it close to her heart. She heard the leaves rustle again and she flipped around. She saw Jasper (Boy #19) run the opposite way until he was out of sight. Josie breathed a sigh of relief and continued down the path she was walking down before.

She hadn't realized it, but she kept her weapon in hand. She walked by a tree and heard a bag unzip. She looked up and saw Marianne and Laurence sitting up at the top of the tree. This couldn't be good news. She knew they would kill her because they basically already have, just by the way they talk to her and everyone else. They think they're so perfect just because of their money.

Stupid!

Josie dropped her assigned weapon; a grappling hook, when she saw Marianne reach into her bag and yank out a long spear. She pulled her arm back like she was ready to impale her. Josie fell onto the ground and picked up her grappling hook. She knew that if she had tried to run, she would've had a spear in her back.

"Please!" Josie screamed as her eyes welled up with tears. She couldn't die-not now. "Don't kill me! Please don't!"

Laurence grabbed Marianne's arm and stopped her from throwing the spear.

"She won't hurt us." He said to her softly.

"But we have to win!" Marianne shouted. She pushed Laurence's arm away from hers and threw the spear towards Josie.

The spear dug into the ground right between Josie's legs. It had just barely skinned her right leg. She got up with her grappling hook still in hand and ran away at full speed, leaving the spear lodged in the dirt.

"Dammit!" Marianne said. "I missed."

Marianne hopped down one branch and swung to the next. She carefully climbed down one more branch and then jumped onto the ground, landing steadily on her two feet. She pulled the spear out of the ground and climbed back up the tree beside Laurence.

"You don't have to kill to win, you know." Laurence said to her.

"Of course we do!" Marianne said with a smile.

"No," Laurence paused. "No, you don't. We'll just wait until everyone else dies, then we can win together."

Win together? Marianne thought. What a loser!

Laurence continued. "There are people who are already killing around here, we don't need to help them out. That's all I'm saying."

"Would you kill someone to protect me?" Marianne demanded.

"Of course," Laurence said. "I love you!"

"Good..." Marianne whispered to herself.

She pulled Laurence in and they locked lips for several seconds. But the truth was, they didn't just lock lips. They locked-in Marianne's protection, for she was safe now. Laurence truly trusted her and he truly believed she loved him.

What a loser!
