Chapter 8

Tears started streaming down Anna's face. She was not expecting George to have such a romantic surprise when she got home from her parents' home. George handed her a glass of Champaign and the rose. She lifted the rose to her face and smelled its sweet scent. She took a sip of Champaign. It was just as sweet as the rose. Anna was at a loss for words. She just let her tears of joy run down her face and looked up at George.

George took his thumb and wiped Anna's tears. He leaned in and kissed her. She met his kiss eagerly. He pulled apart from their kiss. Anna leaned against his chest. She didn't know what had happened to her this last few days. Everything she'd ever wanted was coming true. She never had expected any of this.

Anna pulled away from George and looked up at him. Her tears had finally stopped. "Thank you. I never expected anything like this. I wish you wouldn't spoil me so. I have no way of repaying you for any of this."

"Don't be silly. Hermione did the extension charm. I did get all the furniture, but it is Wizarding furniture. The kitchen is a complete wizard kitchen set for muggle partners."

"How do you mean?"

"When a magical person is with a muggle, there are certain kitchen set ups. Like yours will work for you the way you prefer. Yet it has magical qualities. You'll be able to cook your way, but you don't have to go to the grocery store. If you open the fridge and wish for carrots for instance, they'll just be there. It's like magic for muggles."

"I'm sure the Malfoys love that." Anna said sarcastically.

"Actually, Draco Malfoy invented them."

"What?"

"Yeah, he and his family realized that without marrying muggles or there being muggleborns, the magic would soon run out. It's like small villages who don't bring in new members, they die out."

"So Draco invented my kitchen?" Anna couldn't believe it. She had hoped Draco had changed and the time at the store with Scorpius, she thought he possibly had, but she never thought he'd do things for muggles.

"Yes, when I went in, he saw to it personally. He must still remember your kindness to Scorpius. So he helped get it here. It will be completely functional for you. So when I come, you will be able to cook for me. Don't be surprised, however, if you walk away from a pot and it continues to stir. There are some features added to the kitchen such as that. I'm not sure of all of them, but you'll figure them out."

"Oh wow. Is there anything else for magical people here?"

"No, I don't think so. Fairly everything even in the Wizarding world is muggle friendly. I just wanted you to have this kitchen because we will both be here more often. Plus it's portable."

"Portable? Like we can move it when we go?" Anna was amazed by magic more and more every day.

"Yes. I don't expect us to be here for our whole relationship. I hope to have another surprise for you."

Anna took a sip of her Champaign. She looked at George. No one had ever treated her this well. She doubted anyone ever would. She wasn't sure whether to be excited at having money spent on her, or angry because he completely disregarded what she had said. She took another sip. She decided that while she was happy to be spoiled a little bit, he needed to reel it in. She needed to get him to understand that she doesn't know how to accept all the special treatments.

"You need to quit with the surprises." Anna said slowly. "I'm not used to this. I feel like a charity case."

George moved closer to Anna, if that was even possible. He took her Champaign glass and sat it down next to her. "Look Anna, I'm not used to being able to spend money on anyone. My parents refuse to let me do anything for them. My siblings are all successful as well. Let me spend a little on you, please. I didn't do this to show you I had money, I did it because how were we going to stay in a one room apartment? I know you want to be in your world and I want to be here with you."

"What happens if someone comes over? What do I say?" Anna looked at him with worry. "Like my friends, or landlord?"

"Your friends will have conveniently forgotten where you live, and your landlord will forget what he came for. Hermione, brightest witch of her age, remember? She's thought of everything. No one will disturb you here."

"I like having my friends over."

"Well when you invite them, you'll tell them you moved. They'll come over thinking it's a new place."

"Will they remember where I live?" Anna said. "I know that memory charms aren't great in excess."

"Yes, they'll remember but they won't remember when others' ask." George looked her in the eye. "Nothing will damage their minds. Hermione knows more about muggles than anyone I know."

"I trust you George. I love it, I really do. I'm excited to be able to be here with you."

"Good. The Floo Network will be hooked up tomorrow. There's a pot near the fireplace in the office. It's the only room not accessible to anyone not in on our secret. Simply because we wouldn't want them accidentally stumbling across that."

"Okay. That is awesome. I can use it to see you whenever I want?"

"Yes. Now let's finish our Champaign and enjoy each other's company before you head to work."

"Yes, let's." Anna picked up her glass and took another sip. "This is so delicious."

George headed back to England after Anna had left for work. He still had work to do in his work shop. Afterwards, he was meeting Hermione and Ginny at St. Mungo's. George's next surprise was getting Anna a job there. St. Mungo's was currently adding a new wing. There was a growing population of muggle partners and so St. Mungo's wanted to add a new muggle wing. George thought it was a brilliant idea, and hoped that Anna would love the idea. He knew she had to want the job herself, but he thought if he could get the connections set up, she'd be more likely to want the job.

George knew the only thing that would hold her back was being too far away from her parents. Which was why George was having a floo hooked up. Floo people had already contacted her parents. They were in agreement to keep it a secret. She was sure to love that surprise. He hoped.

After work, he met Hermione and Ginny as promised. They spent time at St. Mungo's talking with the director. She was friendly and couldn't wait to meet Anna. George couldn't stop thanking everyone. He hoped that when the wing was done next year, Anna would take the job, move in with George. He had also heard from the floo guys, they installed the network and a fireplace. The Fredericks were shown how to use the network and how to firecall. George was radiating happiness when he left St. Mungo's.

With a final hug to Ginny and Hermione, he apparated to Anna's place. He found Anna passed out in her bed. She was sleeping peacefully. He decided to be brave and crawled under the covers with her. He snuggled up to her and fell fast asleep.

In the morning, George woke up to find himself alone in Anna's bed. He frowned for a moment until he smelled breakfast. He got out of bed and went immediately to the bathroom where he showered and got ready. He headed towards the kitchen the smell was heavenly. He spotted Anna at the table with a cup of tea and a gadget in her hand.

"Morning." He said as he approached, not wanting to scare her. She looked up from her electronic and smiled.

"Breakfast is in the oven keeping warm for you. I hope you slept well?" She gave him a smirk.

"Yes, very peacefully," George said faking how big of a deal it was that they'd shared a bed for the first time.

"I wasn't expecting to find you in my bed. I also wasn't expecting be so cold. You don't really need all the covers do you?" Anna teased.

"Actually, yes, I am rather tall." He grabbed breakfast out of the oven. He began to head over to the table where Anna had already picked up her electronic again. "What is that?" He asked pointing at the gadget.

"A Nook." She said matter-a-factly. "It's an electronic book with thousands of titles in it. Makes it easier than housing a collection of books."

"I think wizards define themselves based on how well stocked their library is."

"Hermione must be the best witch as well as the brightest then."

"Actually, no. Hogwarts is still the best stocked library."

"Ah. Well I have come to find that wizards are very old fashioned. I like that, don't get me wrong, but I still love carrying a thousand books and not needing an undetectable extension charmed bag."

George, who had been taking bites between talking and listening, looked up. "It still amazes me that you speak as if you've known me for years."

"I feel as if I do." Anna still hadn't looked up from the gadget she called a 'Nook'.

"I know, but it doesn't make it any less strange."

"Speaking of how I know all of you, has there been any new information on how Harry's story came to be Ms. Rowling's?"

"Not that I am aware. I feel that this may take longer than expected."

"Well the paper came for you while you were asleep. Hope you don't mind but the Daily Prophet has always been interesting to me and I read it."

"Find anything interesting?"

"The whole world you live in is fascinating, so that's a little generic of you to ask. However, I saw a small article in there that you should read."

"Oh? What is it on?" Anna handed George the paper.

"The article is page 5, but it's about St. Mungo's." George thought perhaps she'd stumbled into the new wing of the hospital herself.

"Yes. Is it about the new muggle wing of the hospital?"

"Well yes, actually but it was the part about Professor Lockhart that really caught my eye."

"Oh that bloke, what about him?"

"He's missing."
