Hello again! Thanks for all of your fabulous reviews. You guys make me want to write more. Sorry again for the amount of time it took to update, I lost my power for four days and was without my internet access! Sad. Then again, I'm so much better off than some of those who lost their entire homes in the hurricane.
Rory was finally able to get back into her routine a few days after the kids came home. Logan went back to work, and Rory knew if she needed anything she could call Logan or her mom.
Rory was playing Barbie with Ava while Blake was napping in the afternoon. The phone rang, and Ava jumped up to answer it. Rory gently got up and followed her daughter to the kitchen where the phone was and read the Caller ID to make sure it was okay for Ava to answer the phone. When "West Side Medical Clinic" showed up, her breath caught.
"Hello?" Rory tentatively asked.
"Mrs. Huntzberger?" the voice asked to confirm.
"This is she," Rory responded.
"Mommy!" Ava tugged on her mother's pants, upset by the sudden turn of attention, "I wanted to talk on the phone.
Ava pouted with her arms crossed and stared at Rory.
"Sweetie, this is a grown-up call, you need to go and wait for me in the room while I talk on the phone."
"But it's not as fun without you!" Ava stated.
"Well, go play on the playground or something, Mommy just needs a few minutes," Rory tried to compromise.
Ava seemed to accept that and she scampered out through the sliding glass door.
"Sorry about that," Rory said into the phone.
"No problem. Mrs. Huntzberger, I'm a nurse at the West Side Medical Clinic where you had both a Fine Needle Aspiration and a Sentinel Node Biopsy performed several weeks ago. I'm calling with your results," the nurse reported.
Rory had the sudden need to pull up her kitchen chair to sit on.
"Okay," she announced to the phone, "Hit me with it."
"Well, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that your fine needle aspiration did prove to be cancerous. The good news is that the results from the SNB show that the cancer has only spread a little bit. It hasn't penetrated too deep," she relayed from the chart.
Rory let out a small sigh of relief. "So what does that mean?"
"Well, basically, you are going to have to go through chemo sessions and perhaps radiation. We'll see what the doctor says. Dr. Reynolds would like for you to schedule an appointment to come and see her sometime this week to discuss some things," she said.
"Definitely," Rory agreed.
"Oh, it might be a good idea to bring your husband, you might have to work out schedules or something," she said.
"Okay, thanks for the call," Rory said to her.
"You're welcome. See you soon." The nurse hung up.
Immediately she called Logan.
"I have some good news for you," she said when he answered.
"What?"
"A nurse called with my results from the clinic, and the cancer is not as deep as they thought it was," Rory said.
"Wow, the only thing that would make that better is if you didn't have anything at all," Logan said.
"I know. But, I guess we can classify this as a best case scenario," Rory said trying to find the positive.
"Well, let's talk more when I get home. I can bring something home along the way," Logan said.
"That sounds great. I'll--" But she was cut off by a blood-curdling scream from the backyard. She looked out the window to see her daughter crumpled six feet away from a still moving swing that Rory supposed she jumped off of.
"What was that?" Logan asked. But Rory dropped the phone and sprinted out to her little girl.
"MOMMY!!" Ava shrieked when she saw said person running to her. "I fell off, and it hurts!"
Rory saw her arm hanging limply by her side and gasped, arms definitely weren't supposed to turn that way.
"Baby, we have to get you to the doctor's office for him to look at it," Rory tried to gather her little girl to her feet.
It took a few tries, but Rory was finally able to hoist her little girl up and drop her in her car seat while she went to go and get Blake from his crib.
When she walked in, Blake was looking straight at her crying, obviously startled and unsettled by the piercing shriek 15 minutes prior.
Rory tried to soothe the baby while she put warmer clothes on him and carried him out to the car. As Rory was buckling him in, Logan's car pulled in the driveway.
"What happened?" he asked a flustered Rory.
"I think Ava's arm is broken. I'm going to take her to the clinic," Rory explained.
"I'll come too. I was going to leave soon anyway." Logan said.
"That'd be great," Rory said relived to not having to deal with this alone. She backed away from the baby seat and Logan stuck his head in.
"Hey Buddy," he said to Blake. The baby immediately stopped fussing and let out a baby gurgle.
"Someone's happier now, huh?" Rory teased her little boy. "Let's get out of here, her arm looks bad."
"Of course, let's go," said Logan climbing into the driver seat.
And together the family rode off.
Well, you got the results. Next chapters will include Ava/Rory, Logan & Dr. Reynolds/Lorelai. Rory and Logan have some tough choices to make coming up. How will Logan react? How will Ava react? Let me know if there's anything you want to see. Tootles –gilmoregeek13
