Sam woke up very early on the first day of classes…not by her own choice however.

As she had done over the summer holidays, Rose Weasley made it her mission to give Sam an unwelcome wake-up call.

This time though, instead of her usual yell-in-the-ear routine, Rose simply pulled off Sam's warm blankets.

"Hey!" Sam yelped in protest, sitting up and glaring through her messy blonde hair.

Rose sat down on her own neat bed, already dressed in her robes and uniform.

She was completely unaffected by her friend's morning animosity, having grown used to it fairly early on in their relationship.

The other occupants of the room were still in the land of the blissfully ignorant and merely rolled over at Sam's exclamation and continued snoring.

Rose played with the ends of her slightly bushy red hair for a moment before making a sort of shooing gesture at Sam, telling her to get ready for the day.

By the time Sam was dressed and prepared, the other girls in the dorm were in varying states of wakefulness.

This was most likely due to the fact that Sam was complaining and grumbling the entire time she stumbled about the round room getting ready.

"Come along, Pond," Rose chirped, pulling Sam along by a firm grip on her arm.

"Pond? I thought we were never going to mention that again," moaned Sam as they exited the dorm and began their descent into the common room.

"Yeah, well," Rose shrugged, "You're the one that fell in the pond, so you don't get a say, alright?"

Sam stuck her tongue out at the back of the bouncing red-head before her.

"That doesn't make any sense," she stated, somewhat irritated, "If you had fallen in the pond, you wouldn't want people bringing it up, would you?"

Rose made that shoulder movement again, prompting Sam to say,

"Stop shrugging, shrugger! It's a very noncommittal gesture."

The girl…shrugged.

"Really?" Sam asked in annoyed disbelief.

"Hey, girls!" said an excited voice from behind Sam.

"Aahh!" squealed the blonde, jumping forward and clutching onto Rose.

Sam and her friend turned to face the newcomer; it was Lily Luna, looking all innocent with her warm brown eyes and long red hair.

Damn it, I knew she was trouble, Sam thought, deciding to keep Lily in her sights whenever possible from then on.

"Going to breakfast are we?" Lily inquired with a big grin, "Great, I'll come with you."

Making sure to have the younger girl in front of them, Sam and Rose passed through the cosy common room and the portrait hole.

"A bit colder out in the corridors, isn't it?" commented Sam, combing her fingers through her hair as she remembered that she had forgotten to brush it before they left.

The other two concurred and, for the rest of the journey to the ground floor, the three fell into companionable silence.

Or in Sam's case…a false sense of security.

Lily, who had slowly eased her way next to Sam, suddenly jabbed the blonde in the side, causing her to jerk and squeak in fright.

The youngest Potter then rubbed her hand on Sam's head, messing up the hair that had only just been made to appear acceptable.

"Lily!" yelled Sam, blonde strands sticking out at odd angles.

The playful girl held up her hands, fingers splayed and wore an expression that said 'I'm going to get you!'

Sam stepped back, blue eyes wide for a second before she spun around and sprinted towards the Great Hall.

Hearing the advancing footsteps behind her spurred her faster and she dashed passed the Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tables and closer to a familiar mop of untidy black hair.

There were only a handful of students at each table and all of them watched as Sam ran through the hall, chased by the younger girl and Rose, who had not lowered herself to their level by running but instead strode swiftly.

"Albus!" Sam called with desperation, "Save me from your sister!"

The boy turned and watched confusedly as Sam rushed at him and forced herself into the non-existent spot between him and Sirius.

She grabbed his arm and stared worriedly at Lily who, at that point, had stopped a few steps away and was looking up at the ceiling, whistling innocently with her hands behind her back.

"Lily," Albus admonished, "What did mum and dad say about scaring people?"

She had the grace to look embarrassed as she muttered, "To not do it…"

The young red-head then plonked herself down at the table started a conversation with a girl from her dorm, Ava Pakeral, hoping to escape another lecture.

Feeling safer now, Sam let go of Albus and then looked at him with surprise.

"What are you two doing here so early?"

From beside her, Sirius scoffed and muttered, "Hello and good morning to you too, Samantha."

"Oh," she pulled a face, "Right, sorry, good morning."

She paused for a second before demanding, "Now why are you here so early?"

Rose sat down next to Sirius and explained, "What Sam means is, she would never willingly get up at this time so, why are you? Also, I would like to know how you got here when I asked Henry Austin earlier if you were still in bed and he said you were."

While Sirius and Albus let out twin 'Ohhhh's, Sam enquired of Rose, "Who's Henry Austin and when did you ask him that?"

Rose shrugged, causing Sam to groan and smack her forehead on the table.

Of course, that elicited another sound of complaint from the blonde.

"We know all the shortcuts in the school," Sirius said smugly.

Sam jumped and straightened up when he started patting her on the back.

Just as she was about to tell him to keep his hands to himself, the delicious breakfast foods appeared before her and she then became, understandably, distracted.

As she was rather aware of the fact that Sirius was beside her, Sam took more care than usual with the way she ate, taking only small bites and making sure to chew and swallow before answering any questions put to her.

By the time she has finished her bacon and eggs, the Hall had filled up considerably.

Albus and Sirius, who were still eating from what looked like mountains of food, only paused in their activity when the owls swooped in from overhead.

The Potter family's sturdy barn owl, Nimbus, fluttered to a graceful stop and dropped onto the table in front of Albus.

The bird had a letter clamped in his beak but every time Albus went to take it, Nimbus would hop away.

"Oh, come on, you silly bird," grumbled Albus, "No need to hold a grudge because of that one time I hit you! It was an accident."

The owl settled down by Rose who addressed it firmly,

"Just you consider giving that message to him."

Nimbus, somehow, managed to make a sound without dropping the letter.

"No," said Rose to the bird, "I don't think he likes you at all."

The barn owl made another sound.

"No, I don't like you either," Rose said.

The letter dropped onto the table and Nimbus let out an offended sounding hoot before taking off again.

Rose plucked the letter up and handed to Sirius, who handed it Sam who in turn passed it to its intended recipient.

As Albus opened his letter, another owl arrived; this one delivering a copy of the Daily Prophet to Rose who immediately began scanning the headlines.

The parchment the middle Potter sibling had was, apparently, eye roll worthy.

"What's that about?" Sirius asked, gesturing to it with his fork.

"Just mum and dad telling me to keep an eye on you and Sam, make sure she doesn't get lost or turned into a purple snail or something," Albus said casually.

"Albus…" Sam begun worriedly, "I don't want to get turned into a purple snail."

The boy rolled his eyes again, "You'll be fine, we're all here."

"Yeah, we'll keep you safe," Sirius agreed, throwing his arm around Sam's shoulders, "Right, Rose?"

"Hmm…interesting," Rose muttered, bringing the newspaper closer to her face.

Wanting a distracting, Sam questioned, "What's so interesting, Rosie?"

"Read for yourself," the other girl said, handing the paper over a few moments later.

The bold headline caught her attention, "Hufflepuff Heist?"

Both Sirius and Albus, now finished with their breakfasts, leaned closer to read over her shoulder.

Several months ago there was a mysterious break in at the Helga Hufflepuff Memorial Museum and, at first; the authorities had not been sure what had been taken or who had taken it.

None of the exhibits had been touched but the curators had been insistent that something was missing, though they had refused to say exactly what.

After I heard about that intriguing little puzzle, I, being a former Hufflepuff myself, made it my sole priority to find the culprit and what went missing.

The curators of the museum were hard to persuade but, I can be very persuasive when I want to be.

They, rather reluctantly, told me that what had been stolen was in fact a very old piece of parchment that spoke of a very suspicious project between Helga Hufflepuff herself and a man known as The Friar.

Apparently the stolen parchment mentions some sort of object the two were attempting to create.

I had deduced that man helping her was The Fat Friar, the ghost of Hufflepuff house at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and I, as I often am, was right.

Unfortunately, as I know from past experience, there are a few things that the, usually friendly, ghost refuses to talk about, and Helga Hufflepuff is one of them and not even I would be able to persuade him otherwise.

The only thing I can say is that whoever broke into the Museum, must have known exactly what they were looking for, the details about what was on that document were not widely known.

With no more information to go on, I'm afraid that the Hufflepuff Heist is going to have to be left unsolved. If you have any information you would like to submit, please fill out the form on page 5.

"Hmm, Hufflepuff…" said Sam thoughtfully as she finished reading, "Not many things out there about her, it's usually the other three…"

Sam passed the paper back to Rose then and watched as the teacher she assumed was Gryffindor Head of House approached.

"Hello, you lot," the man greeted.

"Neville!" Albus grinned and then, upon seeing the professor's raised eyebrow, "Professor!"

Sam jumped out of her seat, her blue eyes wide as she stared at the friendly man.

"Oh," Neville smiled, "You must be Samantha, Hermione wrote to me about you."

She could only nod stupidly, too star struck to be capable of speech.

The Herbology Professor, growing uncomfortable with her adoration, busied himself by handing out their class schedules.

"Well, Samantha, I hope you enjoy your time here and keep busy," he said before he turned and continued down along the table.

"That was great, Samantha," Sirius commented sarcastically, "Not creepy or weird at all."

She had her mouth open slightly for a second longer before she unfroze and sunk back down.

"Hey!" she grumped, finally catching onto Sirius's remark, "That was Neville Longbottom, for crying out loud! Do you have any idea how super cool he is?"

Sirius ignored her, choosing instead to look at his timetable.

"Oh great!" he said, grinning, "We don't have any classes on Fridays."

"What?" Sam scrambled to find her own schedule, "Oh, you're right."

"I always am," he nudged her.

Rose, from his other side, moaned, "That means no classes today…what are we going to do?"

"Well," drawled Albus, "I guess we'll show Sam around the castle."

"How could they do this to me?" complained the blonde as she traipsed around some corridor.

There was no-one around to hear or answer her.

Sirius, Albus and Rose had decided to, after dragging her all over the castle, have her find her own way back to the common room.

Frustration was a tight ball in her stomach, frustration at Sirius, who had been continually flirting with her, and frustration with Albus and Rose, who distracted her with all this new information that she had no hope of retaining.

"I don't wanna be this way," she said to the empty corridor, "I'm lonely. I'm totally lost. I mean, I'm literally lost. I've never been in this part of the castle before…"

Just as she turned the corner, she noticed Lily down the corridor she was about to go down herself.

Panicking, Sam darted back and took a couple more turns, hoping to be safe from the girl that was certain to try and scare her again.

She closed her eyes and leaned back against the cool stone, catching her breath.

"Hi."

The voice snapped Sam's eyes open; she fully expected to see Lily Potter standing before her.

So the fact that it wasn't, caused her heart rate to spike.

Holy crap, it's the creepy creeper!

He was standing only two steps away from her and was watching her intently with his pale brown eyes.

"Um," she mumbled uncomfortably, "Hi, who are you and how did you find me?"

"Uh…," he seemed nervous as nervous as she was, "I know not who you are, nor how I came to find you, but may I just say... Hi. How ya doin'? I'm Michael Thewn, who're you?"

She sidled along a bit, hoping to get away from the wall but didn't answer him.

"What's your name?" Michael asked, "Are you a transfer student? Are you American?"

Sam stopped her subtle escape attempt and raised her eyebrows.

"Excuse me?" she questioned incredulously, "Transfer student? American?"

She shook her head, "That's ridiculous, Hogwarts doesn't have transfer students and America has their own magical schools."

She paused for a moment, considering, "I suppose someone and their family could have moved from America to the U.K…but why would the family mess around with any student's education?"

Sam continued to ramble on about the logistics of American students at Hogwarts; completely unaware of the way the Slytherin was staring at her with rapt attention.

Suddenly, Sirius, Albus, Rose and Scorpius appeared and they were puffing slightly from their run.

"Sam!" cried Rose, "There you are!"

Rose and the boys came forward and gathered close to Sam.

Scorpius greeted his dorm mate coldly, "Michael."

Pale brown eyes darted about the group nervously before settling on the young Malfoy, "Scorpius."

Michael Thewn backed away slowly, keeping his eyes on Sirius and Albus who were glaring at him and standing protectively in front on Sam.

The boy abruptly turned and ran off, allowing the group to sigh in relief and all start talking at once.

"Sam, are you alright?"

"We saw you on the Map!"

"He's creepy, are you okay?"

"What did he want? Did he do anything?"

Sam simply grabbed Rose and hugged her before drawing the others in as well.

"I love you guys, even Scorpius," she sighed.

"Hey!"
