H – Hide verb to conceal oneself; lie concealed
Sometimes, when work was quiet, Roy Mustang liked to have a little fun.
On one such occasion, Roy had a plan to sneak up on Lieutenant Hawkeye in the records holding office. A large, locked room used for storing various files on military incidents and cases. It was perfect for this kind of prank, the tall library-like shelves would allow him to hide and stalk on his prey. He liked to think he was very stealthy.
"I'll be back shortly, Sir" Roy nodded as Riza left the office with an armful of files, destined for the holding office. This would be the perfect time. He waited a few minutes, and announced his departure to his remaining men. The lieutenant's destination wasn't far away, and he was sure she would be there by now, filing away today's paperwork. He almost smirked. She would never expect this.
The colonel arrived outside the room, putting his ear to the door. He didn't want to get caught and he knew this would be especially difficult given his lieutenant's razor-sharp senses. Turning the door knob slowly and precisely, he opened the door, stopping mid-way to ensure the coast was clear. He slipped into the room and closed the door behind him just as silently, freezing on the spot until he could locate Hawkeye. He heard a drawer opening and closing and he reckoned she was in the back corner of the room, this was too perfect. Mustang sidled up one of the aisles of shelves full with military records, peeking through the odd gaps in order to see her. She never suspected a thing, continuing to organise the numerous manila folders in silence.
Until that silence was broken. Lieutenant Hawkeye began to sing.
Roy nearly had a heart attack. His breath hitched. Riza Hawkeye could sing?!
He tried to remain stoic and not give the game away but it was certainly difficult, her voice was beautiful. He recognised the tune, an Amestrian lullaby called Grace, which he remembered from his childhood. Lieutenant Hawkeye's vocal abilities were a revelation to him, and it was one that he loved. He stood in awe of her, her voice carrying the words and tune so perfectly. She was perfect.
The lullaby eventually came to an end, and so had her task. Hawkeye locked the drawer shut and Mustang knew he would need to pounce soon, he had almost forgot what he was here to do. He walked quietly to the end of the aisle where Hawkeye would be passing and he waited for her. She turned the corner and Roy jumped out, earning a loud gasp from her and she clutched at her gun instinctively.
"Colonel!" she said angrily, unsure if she was genuinely annoyed or more embarrassed that she was caught singing to herself. He just smirked.
"Every day is a school day, lieutenant, I didn't know you could sing" she almost blushed.
"What are you doing here?!"
"You have a lovely voice, by the way," he said, his smirk not letting up, "you should sing more often." She huffed and brushed past Mustang, obviously embarrassed. He was enjoying every second of this.
"We should get back to the office, Colonel"
"Don't worry, Lieutenant, I'll keep your little secret just between us" she turned back and glared in her typical style and Roy just winked, a happy grin plastered to his face. There were certain things he loved about Riza Hawkeye, and discovering little pieces of information such as this was one of them.
I'M BACK! Hi guys. :)
