Chapter 8: Godparents.

(Sorry for the bad chapter name)

THIRD PERSON'S P.O.V.

Clary, Simon, Isabelle and Jace sit in stunned silence for a few minutes.

"Magnus, Alec, are you really sure? I mean, first you name Sam after me and Izzy and now you want me to be one of the godmothers of the babies? I mean, I'm honoured and I would love to be one of their godmothers, and I love them so much. But isn't there someone else you would prefer to ask instead of me? Like your friend Tessa, Magnus." Clary says, rubbing both hands across her belly.

Magnus gets up and sits beside Clary.

"Clary, I have known you since you were a baby. You've been my best friend for 6 years. You are doing Alec and I something un repayable by carrying our children. You are my baby sister and I love you so much. There is no one else in this world that I would rather have as one of the godmothers of my twins. Max and Sam are so lucky to have you as one of their aunties. So don't think for one second there is someone else we would rather have as one of the godmothers of our children, than you." He says.

Clary smiles broadly at her best friend.

"Thank you Mags, of course I'll be their godmother I'd be honoured." She says. Magnus smiles and squeezes her hand.

"Izzy, what do you say? Would you like to be godmother of your niece and nephew?" Alec asks.

Isabelle breaks out into a huge grin and hugs her brother and brother-in-law.

"Of course I do! Thank you so much for asking me, it means so much to me." She says.

"And it means so much to us that you're agreeing." Alec says, grinning at his sister.

"I thought you would've hated me because I married your sister." Simon says to Alec.

"Of course I don't! I hate every other boy she dated, since they never really treated her properly, but you've treated her so well Simon, treated her how she deserves. So of course I don't hate you." Alec says.

Simon smiles broadly, honoured to be asked to be the godfather of his first born niece and nephew.

"Of course I'll be their godfather, thank you so much for asking me." He says.

He turns to Isabelle and smiles broadly at her.

"We're going to godparents Si." She whispers, grasping both of his hands in hers, beyond excited to be so heavily involved in the babies lives.

Simon smiles and kisses her softly.

"Well I can't say I'm surprised you asked me to be their godfather, I am going to be their favourite Uncle." Jace says, being his usual arrogant self.

"Dream on golden boy." Simon says. Simon and Jace are always bantering with eacother about who will be the babies' favourite uncle, since they are their only uncles.

"So I'll take your response as a 'yes' Jace." Alec says.

"Of course!" Jace says.

Magnus and Alec grin at eacother, elated with the godparents their children will have.

*2 hours later*

"So how are you and the baby Clary?" Maryse asks as she and Jace sit in the kitchen with her and Robert.

Clary grins and rubs her swollen stomach.

"The babies and I are great, thanks." She says. Maryse turns around and looks at her daughter-in-law with great shock.

"It's twins?" She asks. Clary smiles and nods.

"We only found out a while ago, when I had really bad stomach cramps because of my blood pressure getting too high." She says.

"Well this is fantastic! I know Magnus and Alec were both so excited when they thought they were having only one baby, but now we know its twins... well it certainly explains Alec being unusually giddy and excited, he's almost as bad as Magnus." Maryse says.

Jace laughs.

"Finally someone else noticed. We were in the training room the other day, just doing a bit of training, and Alec starts rambling on about the babies and then he suddenly says 'Jace, will you come shopping for baby stuff with me?' I almost threw my dagger at him." Jace says.

Maryse smiles.

"Isn't this great Robert? You know just how badly Alec wanted a baby, and Magnus." Maryse says, turning to her husband.

"All I'm saying is I'm not looking after those children all the time." He says.

"They wouldn't expect you to; they'll never have the babies out of their arms." Maryse says.

"Good, because I don't have time to be looking after children, especially not now I'm the Inquisitor." Robert says.

"But you'll come to the hospital to meet the babies when they're born, won't you?" Clary asks, rubbing her bump.

"Well Clarissa it depends on where I am, here or in Idris and how busy I am." He says.

"Don't call me Clarissa. Though surely you can make time to come and meet your newborn grandchildren?

I know if and when Jace and I have a baby, my dad will drop everything to come meet the baby when they're born." Clary says.

"Your father is a Downworlder; I wouldn't say he's very busy." Robert says, making it sound as if being a Downworlder is a great shame.

"So what? He still loves me and has protected me from before I was born. I still love him and he's still my dad." She says.

Before they can continue on, Alec walks into the kitchen.

"Hey guys." He says.

"Hello darling." Maryse says. Alec sits beside Clary.

"Are you okay? You look upset." He says.

"I'm fine." She says, not wanting to go back over the offending conversation she just had with Robert.

"I have to go."Robert says and gets up and leaves.

Maryse sighs quietly and shakes her head. She takes a deep breath and turns back to her sons and daughter-in-law.

"So Alec, I hear you're having twins." She says, grinning at her son.

He smiles broadly and nods.

"A boy and a girl." He says.

"Oh how sweet. Do you and Magnus have names chosen?" She asks.

"Yeah. For the girl, Samantha Isabelle Clarissa Lightwood Bane.

For the boy, Max Robert Lightwood Bane." He says, being gentle when he tells his mother he's naming his son after his little brother whose life ended before it even started.

Maryse is quiet for a while, trying to hold back tears.

"Do you mind us calling him Max, mom?" Alec asks.

Maryse smiles and shakes her head.

"No honey, I don't. In fact I love it, and I know Max would be honoured and so excited for the babies." Maryse says.

Alec smiles, glad that he has made his mother happy, by naming his son after her youngest little boy.

*2 hours later*
Clary walks into the institute library, where Alec told her brother Zachariah is. She needs to speak to him about the odd stomach cramps she's been getting lately, she's afraid her blood levels are going back up.

She opens the door and see's a young man who looks about her age. He's tall, about the same height as Alec. He has black hair with a silver streak through it.

He has the same dark runes as all shadowhunters, so he is obviously shadowhunter.

He turns around to look at her and smiles warmly.
"Oh, sorry I was looking for brother Zachariah." She says.

"I'm right here." He says, confusing Clary.

"Um, what?" She asks, confused.

He smiles and steps forward. He extends his hand for her to shake.

"James Carstairs, but please call me Jem." He says.

Okay, I know Jem should've been cured from the brotherhood and yin fen addiction way before this story but I totally forgot and already had him appear in this as brother Zachariah, so I did like this.

Sorry if it's not that good or anyone's OCC.
