Flashback...
Bou-san was about to make a comment on what Mai just told then when...

They all heard knocking sounds and they all tensed thinking that it was another attack. But they all relaxed when John commented that someone was knocking on the base's door. Mai calling out that it was open, and it was hastily opened by Miyako. Though they were shocked at her appearance, since instead of a calm and collected Miyako who they were all used to see. But rather, the person in front of them looked like someone who just ran a marathon, with her hair and clothes in disarray, breathing hard and also had a panicked look on her face.
Before anyone could ask what was wrong, Miyako already began speaking and answering their unasked question, but with the way she was speaking none of them could find a point to interrupt her, "What happened? I've just gone to the grocery store to get some additional items and as I was returning I felt a strong spiritual presence coming from the house and rushed back."
Everyone just stared at her as if though she grew two heads. Naru normally wouldn't tell any client what's going on but with how things were going and from what Mai had just told them they didn't have any choice but to involve Miyako. With that Naru answered Miyako, though he didn't full tell her everything, wanting to test her, "We were attacked just moments ago by some spirits and we only managed to get away unscathed due to the intervention of Hoyama's spirit."
Miyako's eyes widened, "What do you mean by Hoyama's spirit?" Naru narrowed his eyes at Miyako's reaction.
Naru then answered, "I've been thinking of what has been happening in this house, it was only after Yasuhara said that the only death that happened within the walls of this house was that of Hoyama's. From there I've conclude that aside from the entity trapped here as affirmed by Hara-san, Hoyama's or rather Taniyama Hosuke-san's spirit was also trapped here." Miyako's eyes widened along with the rest of the team. Naru then continues his explanation, "It seemed that during the time he used his own life force to trap whatever entity is in this house, his soul or maybe a part of it was trapped as well. And someone or something had tampered with the seal, releasing both the entity and Hoyama's spirit." All eyes were on Naru, trying to comprehend what he just said.
"Wait, wait, what do you mean by the seal breaking, Naru-bou? Who would even break it?", Bou-san asked, confused on how the seal would have been broken when none of the team would have done that, so the only ones not accounted for were Miyako and her husband.
Naru then answered, "As I said, the seal was broken and the evidence for that was what happened a while ago. As for who broke it, I believe that it was Fujiwara Takumi who did so." Everyone's eyes widened at that, though Naru's eyes were trained on Miyako, trying to gauge her reactions. Before any of them could comment on what Naru just said, he continued speaking, "But there were two things Takumi-san didn't foresee. These were Hoyama's spirit being sealed with the demon, the second being the release of the demon from its seal would also release the spirit of Hoyama, or in this case Mai's father from his entrapment. Due to Hoyama-san's intervention, Fujiwara Takumi was weakened in a way."
The room was enveloped in silence, they were all trying to take in all the information Naru dumped on them. Some thinking along the lines of whether they liked a Naru who didn't explain things to them or a Naru who dumps information without nary a blink, but either way both choices led them to have massive headaches. Naru on the other hand wasn't finished. Turning his attention towards Miyako. Miyako just stood there waiting for Naru to say what he wanted to tell her.
Naru narrowed his eyes, "Judging from your lack of reaction in finding out that Mai is the daughter of your friends, your husband's involvement with the case and your ability to sense spiritual presences that no ordinary person could do. I would presume that you already have an idea of what is happening, am I right, Miyako-san?" Everyone in base turned to face the woman, they were quite shocked with what they've heard but what was truly shocking was Miyako not denying Naru's accusation.
Mai's head snapped up when she heard Naru questioning Miyako. Turning her head to where Miyako was standing, something clicked within Mai's mind. Memories kept replaying in her head, about the times she spent with her mother and a lady, who was none other than Miyako herself. The times when all three of them played in the garden, had tea parties and played dress up. Remembering all those fun times, the dam finally broke and Mai started cry. Before any member of SPR could move to comfort Mai, Miyako was already beside her with her arms around Mai comforting her. "Sshh, don't cry Mai-chan. I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you but you have me now and I won't let anyone harm you. I've failed Kimi already and I'm not going to repeat that with you. I've waited for this day for so long, I've wanted to hug you again like this but I had to stop myself from doing so less I endanger you." Mai started to calm down, feeling safe and warm, as if though she was with her mother and Miyako as a little girl.
When Miyako noticed that Mai had calmed down, she turned towards the others in base, but her attention was focused solely on Naru, "With regards to your question a while ago the answer would be yes, yes to all your questions. I knew that Takumi had been doing this kind of things and that he is the cause of what is happening." Miyako stopped then with sad eyes looked at Mai, "I knew from the very moment that Mai stepped into this house that she was Hosuke and Kimiko's daughter. I've wanted so much to approach her from the very beginning, but I couldn't because of a promise I made to Hosuke eight years ago." Miyako's confession raised quite a lot of questions, with Mai asking one of them that would actually answer quite a lot.
Mai turned towards Miyako, curious on the promise she made, "What do you mean by a promise Miya-baa?"
Miyako smiled at Mai, "It feels as if though it was just yesterday that you started calling me that." Mai blushed realizing what she just called Miyako, she was about to apologize but Miyako stopped her.
"It's alright you could call me that all you want, I'm just glad I have my goddaughter back", Miyako said to Mai, hugging her close. Mai smiled as well and returned Miyako's hug, the both of them had tears running down their eyes. Despite wanting to ask questions the others just looked at the two with small smiles on their faces, knowing that this was something the both of them needed. Naru on the other hand looked as indifferent as always but his eyes were a different matter. If someone looked closely they would see the gentleness in them directed at Mai.
Naru, who would normally just interrupt others to get the information he needed only spoke when Mai and Miyako had stopped hugging each other and had calmed down enough to drink the tea offered to them by Ayako. "Miyako-san, what was the promise you made to Mai's father?" The others curious as well.
Miyako took a deep breath and put down the cup she was holding on the table, "I promised Hosuke that I would not approach Mai until she remembered who I am, at first I didn't understand what he meant but when I saw Mai-chan again and she didn't show any signs that she recognized me I finally understood." Miyako looked as if though she was lost in her thoughts but was snapped out of it when Mai took her hand and gripped it. Miyako smiled at Mai which was returned.
Yasuhara, who was in deep thought, asked "Miyako-san if you don't mind, didn't you just say that you made that promise to Mai's father eight years ago, but how is that possible? From what we've found out from Mai-san it would seem that her memories were sealed after her mother's death." Everyone then realized that Yasuhara was right with his deduction. They all turned to Miyako waiting for her answer.
Miyako nodded, "I understand how me saying that would confuse everyone, the promise I talked about happened before Hosuke's untimely death. He contacted me and informed me of what will happen, along with he gave me certain instructions that I had to follow which includes me not to contact Mai at all cost." Seeing the confused look on the others faces, she smiled and continued. "I believe what you want to know is how Hosuke managed to inform me of things before it happened. The answer to that is he had the ability to foresee things not only the immediate future but beyond. It still amazes me at times how accurate Hosuke's foresight was. There was never a moment that his foresight ever failed him." Everyone was shocked at the revelation, most especially finding out about the ability of Mai's father.
They were snapped out of there thoughts by Naru's question. "Was Hosuke-san able to foresee anything or just specific things? Or does his foresight have any limitations of sort?"
Miyako answered, "I asked that same question to Hosuke before. His answer that time was that he could only foresee the things that would be a danger, threat or would cause harm to the people he cared about. He would continue to foresee things so long as that threat was not eliminated or removed."
"Is that the reason why Hosuke-san instructed you not to approach Mai until she remembered you?" Naru asked Miyako, starting to piece things together but there were still some missing pieces.
"Yes, he did that to ensure that Takumi wouldn't harm me in any way or form", Miyako answered with a sad look.
"What do you mean by that Miyako-san", John asked.
Miyako took a deep breath, "Takumi kept a lot of things from me, I only found out by chance what he was planning against Hosuke. When I heard his plans I felt sick to my stomach that the man I married and fell in love with could be that vile. I then went to Hosuke and Kimiko, not thinking of what would happen to me should Takumi find out what I've done. I went to them and told them about what I found out; in the end I didn't have to. I guess that in my panicked state I forgot that Hosuke would have already foreseen what Takumi had planned." She stopped for a moment to take a sip of tea "Since then both Hosuke and Kimiko told me to act normally when I am with Takumi so that he won't suspect anything. It was a good thing that I used to be in the drama club and quite good in acting, because if I wasn't I don't know how I was going to act normally around Takumi after the things I found out. In the end I didn't have to act at all, Takumi was already in his own world and didn't even pay any attention at me. I didn't know whether I should just stay out of his way or for me to act like a doting little house wife and make him notice me." Miyako said with a chuckle trying to lift the mood.
Mai took hold of her hand, Miyako just smiled at her, "Then a few weeks after I informed Hosuke what was going on he contacted me and told me make excuses and go out of town that week, when I returned Takumi greeted me as if though the past few weeks didn't happen. From then I knew that Hosuke was already gone; I wanted to know what happened to Kimiko and Mai but Hosuke's instructions were clear that in no way or form should I try to contact Kimiko."
"What was the reason why Takumi did those things?" Bou-san asked, curious on why such man would do those things.
"I guess you could say it all rooted from jealousy", Miyako answered.
"Jealousy?" Naru asked.
Miyako nodded her head, "You see Kimiko, Hosuke, Takumi and I all became friends with each other when we were in high school. Although Kimiko and I had been friends since we were children. Takumi prided the fact that he came from a prominent family, but his jealousy started when Hosuke invited us to his home. You didn't have to look hard to see that Hosuke grew up in a loving family though they're family's finances were just average. Takumi's jealousy started there, despite having all the money his family had, he wanted to have the same loving family that Hosuke had. From there his jealousy started to grow."
She paused for a while so that the others could let the information sink, she then continued, "His jealousy continued to grow and that was the only thing he ever thought of no longer noticing what he had. It just grew and grew, with Hosuke graduating with the highest honor, becoming successful with his chosen career, he and Kimiko becoming a couple in high school, getting married to Kimiko, Mai-chan being born. I think what really brought Takumi to the edge was finding out that Hosuke was a powerful psychic and he had a contract with 12 powerful Shiki. Takumi wanted all of that, he wanted to be the one on top." The others didn't say a thing, they knew quite well how jealousy could lead persons to do evil things. Miyako shook her head from dark thoughts then said, "So now that you know, I would help you guys in any way I can."
"Are you sure that's a good idea? I'm not saying your help isn't needed its actually the other way around, but you might get harmed if your husband finds out about your involvement. He might be weakened for now but he could planning something now that we know about him." Bou-san commented, not wanting the woman to be placed in danger considering her relationship with Mai. Most especially, she and Mai had just been reunited.
Miyako shook her head, "It's alright, I've already made my resolve and help you guys. As you just said Takumi is weakened for the moment, this is the best time for us to make plans on how we would deal with him. As for him making any plans that isn't a likely possibility. If Hosuke was still alive he would but now that Hosuke's dead Takumi thinks that he's the best in the world. Knowing Takumi he is currently licking his wounds but confident that he succeeded with his plan." Everyone looked at Miyako as if though she grew two heads.
Yasuhara, who was thinking, commented, "By any chance Miyako-san when you said he was confident in his plan succeeding, does it that he is so over himself that he thinks we are idiots and that he out-smarted us with him coming in for a case and us accepting it. Adding it to the fact that he had as bring Mai here, who is currently his target." His comment made everyone blink and Naru's eyes to narrow.
Bou-san, with his brows furrowed, tried to clear things out, "So you're both trying to say that Takumi thinks that we don't know it's him that's causing this. As well as the fact that his weakened state wasn't caused by us but rather because he succeeded in breaking the seal and releasing the demon and not because Mai's father had intervened."
"Bingo!" Miyako and Yasuhara exclaimed at the same time. They all looked dumbstruck at the explanation, Lin and Naru pinching the bridge of their nose, though Mai was still confused about something.
"Wait a second, wouldn't the entity that attacked me and failing because of my father intervening would alert him that something is wrong?" Mai asked. The others remembering about Mai saying that she heard the entity say something about not being able to escape.
Naru was the one to answer Mai's question, "It is possible that with the nature of the seal, Fujiwara Takumi might have just assumed that your father's presence was just a remnant of his spiritual essence rather than his soul. As for the entity saying something about not escaping next time, in his state of mind sensing your father's presence must have set him off. There's also the part that he was weakened considerably.
Before anyone could comment on what Naru just said, they all heard the doorbell ring. Miyako stood up and said, "I'll get it, I should be starting dinner soon anyway." She then went out of the room, with the others wondering who could it be considering how late it was already.
When Miyako opened the door to see who it was, her eyes widened and slowly a smile was on her face in greeting.
