Chapter 8: Theatrics, First Aid and Roommates

July 16th, X793- Nighttime

June finally stepped up the final step of the crypt, the woman taking a deep breath of the first bit of fresh air she'd had in hours before looking up at the sky, seeing a mass of stars lighting up the sky as she finally realized just how long she had been in that crypt. June let out a long sigh, she had spent most of the day down there, but after dealing with that necromancer she found nothing else.

"How long was he looking for?" June wondered aloud before walking back towards the front of the cathedral and entering it upon reaching the large wooden doors, "Father Lamar! Brother Cassius! I've finished the mission!" she called out as she walked into the grand chapel of the cathedral, which was dimly lit by several candles and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, Cassius eventually coming out of a room in the back.

"Ah, Mage June," Cassius said with a small smile on his face, although with the usual oppressive look in his eyes, it looked to be more mocking that pleased, "Did everything go well in the crypts?"

"No," June answered, "There was a Necromancer summoning Ghouls down there."

The look on Cassius' face suddenly turned serious, "That is a serious problem. I take it that it is no longer so?"

"Yes, we fought, but he was so old and frail that he couldn't live through my attack, regrettably," the Dragon Slayer sighed, "But he did speak of his motives some."

"Please do share," Cassius insisted, "The state of the crypts is the responsibility given to me by Father Lamar, I must know what it was this Necromancer was looking for."

"He claimed to be one of the strongest mages from Kitsune's Garden under the third Guild Master, and in his journal he stated that he wanted to resurrect the third Guild Master." June began to explain as she handed Cassius the journal, a look of shock on his face.

"May I ask what his name was?" the priest requested as he opened the journal and began to leaf through the pages, his expression growing more and more grim as he read a few lines from the journal.

"His name was Takeshi Shiori."

"Takeshi… Shiori," Cassius repeated softly before snapping the journal shut.

"Do you recognize it?"

"Yes… Tell me, how much do you know about Kitsune's Garden?" Cassius asked as he tucked the journal into his coat pocket.

"Mostly just recent history, the overall attitude of the guild. I'm only familiar with the guild's current members though," June answered, drumming her fingers on her one of her crossed arms.

"Hmph… Then of course you wouldn't know about the Gravemaster Takeshi. He was quite the feared mage up until sixty years ago, when the Magic Council delivered their ultimatum to Kitsune's Garden and the woman who became the fourth Guild Master forced the third to step down. She was the one who led the guild into a small golden age later on, as she was also the Guild Master to lead Kitsune's Garden the longest," the priest explained, a look of fondness being vaguely present on his face, "She only died about twelve years ago, but she had stepped down from her position in X762, leading to a quick succession of Guild Masters until X780, when the eighth Guild Master took charge."

"You know an awful lot about that guild don't you?" June asked, eying the priest with a bit of suspicion.

"And why should I not?" Cassius responded, closing his eyes for a brief moment as his usual gaze returned, "You could stand to know your rival guild and its history a bit more. Perhaps then things would seem clearer to you."

"About the Necromancer?" June asked, a puzzled look on her face as Cassius chuckled for a moment.

"If that is what you want to think," he said as a small, entertained smile appeared on his face, although before June could continue her questions, Father Lamar entered the chapel.

"Oh, dearest June! Did everything go all right in the crypts? Are you harmed anywhere?" the bishop asked worriedly as he quickly walked up to Cassius and June.

"I am unharmed, Father Lamar," June sighed, "Although I could use a shower and these clothes need to be burned."

"Oh that is such a relief to hear. I was so ever worried for your safety while you were in there," Father Lamar continued with a worried pout on his face, "Do tell me, how did things go in the crypts?"

"Ghouls and a Necromancer, Father Lamar," Cassius answered, turning towards the bishop with a serious look, "I can explain more in detail later. For now, why don't you give Mage June her reward?" he suggested before turning around and beginning to walk off, "Farewell, Mage June."

"Oh, Brother Cassius. Such a serious fellow, don't you think?" the bishop inquired as June merely sighed and nodded in agreement, "But he is correct, I shall ask him for the details later, you needn't be bothered with them when you are tired from your mission. For now, your reward," Lamar stated as he presented June with a bag of Jewels, "A reward well-earned indeed, I think," he added with a giggle as June took the bag.

"Thank you, Father Lamar," June responded quietly, "If something in the crypt ever troubles you again, be sure to request me."

"Of course, dearest June," the bishop giggled, "You are of course the best suited to it after all."

"Now then, if you would excuse me, I should return to my guild so that I can clean up," June stated, bowing slighting, "Farewell, Father Lamar," she said before turning around and leaving.

"Do take care of yourself now!" the bishop called out as June left the room, "Toodles."

. : + : .

"Fufufu," a sinister voice laughed, the owner of said voice standing atop a building in Apricot Town, the full moon shining brightly behind them, shrouding their form, "They know not what fate awaits them! Muahahahaha! Come minion! We have work to do!" the person declared in an exaggerated manner before leaping from the building towards the unsuspecting man beneath them.

The second figure merely sighed at the first person's theatrics, "At it again are we?" they huffed before following.

"Beware! Citizens of Apricot Town! For it is I! The great and all-powerful evil genius! Emilia Rhinehart! Muahahaha!" the twenty-two year old woman laughed maniacally after landing on the ground, the man in front of her, Cole Fizen, wearing a flat and unentertained look on his face while the citizens of Apricot Town collectively sighed in exasperation.

Emilia was a relatively skinny woman who had some curves about her body, namely her hips. She stood at 5'9" with long, gangly legs and was slightly toned while her shoulders were slightly wider than average, although her perky chest was average in size. Emilia had pale skin, which seemed to glow in the moonlight and complemented her deep violet hair, which has a few darker strands running through it and fell down to her waist with a fringe sticking out to the left, although her hair was tied up into a high ponytail to keep it restrained some. Her amber colored eyes were slightly angular and feline in appearance, while also being slightly wide, but they always held a mischievous glint in them while her pale green Kitsune's Garden guild mark was found on her left hip. Emilia wore a thin, faded, waist-length, black jacket over a tight, royal blue t-shirt, while she also wore a pair of midnight blue skinny jeans with a pair of gray combat boots.

"Is it Tuesday night again already?" Cole sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose, "Can you drop the act for just one night?"

"Silence! Do not presume to order me around! The evil genius, Emilia Rhinehart! While you are just a lowly do-gooder!" she exclaimed as she thrust her arm out so that she was pointing towards Cole in a dramatic fashion.

"Yes, I know who you are… You do this literally every Tuesday night," Cole groaned, thoroughly sick of having to go through this over and over, "Hey Saya!" Cole called out as the second person landed on the ground, "Talk some sense into your friend will you?"

Saya Mori was a twenty-one year old woman who stood at 5'6" with a full-bodied, slight hourglass figure. She had very pronounced curves while she had a large chest and backside. Her short legs were also fairly large, although they were somewhat large with a pronounced muscle tone while her biceps and triceps on her long arms were slightly large than average as well. She had a light tan and her crimson Kitsune's Garden guild mark was found just beneath her left collarbone while she also had thin, diagonal scar running down from her left should to her right hip. Saya's teal green eyes were angular and narrow, while she kept her blond hair styled into a pixie cut while she had a few crimson highlights running through her hair as well. Saya's regular clothing consisted of a dusted pink blouse with a white, knee-length skirt and a pair of white training shoes.

"If you're as calm and collected as you think you are, this shouldn't bother you," Saya sighed before her eyes suddenly went wide as she looked down to see a hand groping her ample chest.

"Fool! Do no address my faithful minion in such a familiar manner!" Emilia demanded as she gave Saya's chest a few good squeezes, "Right, minion?"

"Contain yourself…" Cole sighed, a faint pink blush dusting his face at the sight.

"Y-YOU PERVERT!" Saya screamed as she threw Emilia to the ground, her face thoroughly red from the heavy blush on her face, "How many times have I told you not to do that!?" she continued screaming before stomping on Emilia's back a few times.

"Minion! What… is this… betrayal?" Emilia wheezed pitifully before letting her head drop to the ground, pretending to have died.

"Pervert…" Saya huffed before turning her glare on Cole, still upset over Emilia's perverted antics, "And what are you looking at!? Huh!? Thought you'd enjoy a free show!?"

Cole stood there for a moment longer before sighing yet again, unable to cope with what was going on, "Ah… My apologies," Cole said before shaking his head and speaking up again, "How do you put up with her?"

"I wonder that myself sometimes," Saya sighed, her foot still planted on Emilia's back.

"Because she's my minion!" Emilia chirped as she lifted an arm up into the air.

"No one asked you!" Saya shouted before stomping on Emilia again, her arm falling to the ground, "But I don't want your pity. An Ursine Rampart mage doesn't get to worry about me."

"Hmph… Of course not," Cole huffed, "Good evening to the both of you," he said with a slight bow before walking off.

"Hey Saya…" Emilia called out pitifully from her position on the ground.

"What?" she asked with a role of her eyes.

"I can see your panties," the S-Class mage snickered before Saya stomped on her again.

Misaki walked through the streets of Sakura Village, the nightlife having started up now that the moon had taken its place in the sky. She normally didn't just wander around, but Undine had wanted to head to Little Enten for hookah, but Miki didn't feel like sitting in a room filled with smoke, so she went off on her own instead.

"Maybe I should stop by Akachochin?" she muttered as she thrust her hands into her hoodie's pockets after pulling the hood up, "I don't think Miko-nee… Mitsuko-san would be there tonight," Misaki continued to mumble before coming to a halt, having noticed someone from the guild staring into the window of a store.

She knew the boy's name was Shadin Crest and that he was only about a year younger than she was, making him eighteen. He stood at 5'7" with a slender build and very pale skin while he black colored eyes held a slightly creepy look in them, although he often looked nervous. Shadin had short and straight silverish, white hair while his face had an angular shape. He had thin lips and wide mouth while he also had a faint scar on his left pectoral, although his black Kitsune's Garden guild mark was on the back of his left hand. Shadin was wearing a beige colored t-shirt with a bone necklace around his neck, while he also wore a pair of dark gray jeans and gray sneakers on his feet.

Normally Misaki would've just continued on her way, but she noticed a couple of men near Shadin moving a cart filled with several heavy boxes that were terribly unsteady.

"Dammit," Misaki hissed under her breath as she noticed one of the boxes begin to fall after the cart ran over a rock, "Look out!" she yelled before running over to Shadin, who turned just in time to look up at the box before being shoved out of the way by Misaki, the boy hitting the ground with an 'oof' as the box landed on Misaki.

"Aah… A-Are you all right?" Shadin asked nervously as he pushed the box off of Misaki, "Y-Y-You're fr-from the guild… Um… Thank you."

"Tsk… Ow..." Miki groaned as she sat up, holding onto her left arm before she leaned up against the store Shadin had been looking into as the two men who were driving the cart came up to them.

"Are you two all right?" one of them asked.

"Is your arm hurt, miss?"

"Yeah… but it's just a scratch," she huffed, looking down at the bloody scrape on her arm.

"How about you?" one of the men asked, looking at Shadin.

"Ah… I-I'm fine, sir," he answered nervously, an embarrassed blush on his face.

"Well do you need any help, miss?"

"No, I'm a mage. This is nothing," Misaki answered coldly, "So you two can go. You're busy, aren't you?"

The two men turned to look at each other, puzzled about what to do before they sighed, picked up their box and left.

"Ow!" Misaki hissed once the two men had left, now realizing her back was bleeding from where the corner of the box had hit her.

Shadin gasped at the sight of her clothes starting to become stained with blood, "L-let me help!" he shouted as he picked up a small bag that he had dropped after being knocked over, the boy pulling out a brand new first aid kit that he had bought earlier, "Um… well," he began to stutter when he realized that the wound was under her hoodie.

"What's the problem?" Miki asked before she realized what it was, "Oh…" she mumbled, a light blush starting to dust her face, "Um… I have a crop top underneath this… It's fine," she said before she started to move her arms to take off her hoodie, although she quickly stopped when her arm started hurting again, "Ow!"

"Um… Here… L-let's just lift your hoodie up a bit so you don't irritate your arm," Shadin suggested as Miki nodded in response before beginning to lift her hoodie up some, revealing her bare lower back and the start of her black crop top. Shadin stood there for a moment, his face turning red at the sight of her back, which he thought would've been faultless if not for the wound covering her with blood, "I'm going to apply some rubbing alcohol now… so this'll sting a bit, all right?"

"Erk… Just get it over with," Miki seemed to pout before she hissed in pain from the stinging the liquid left against her wound.

"Sorry!" Shadin gasped as he pulled the cloth back.

"Just keep going…" Miki groaned, a pout clearly on her face as she turned to look at him.

"Sorry," he apologized again before continuing to clean the wound on her back before wrapping it, "Now for your arm," he stated as Miki pulled back her sleeve so that he could apply some rubbing alcohol to the scrape there.

"Eh… I guess I was lucky to tackle someone who knew first aid," Misaki whined as small tears formed in her eyes as she lifted her right arm and placed in on her head as she began to mess with her hair, scrunching it up into a fox ear shape, "But I hate rubbing alcohol…"

Shadin looked at Misaki, a surprised look on his face. She always tried to act tough while at the guild, but out in town she seemed to not care how she acted like since he would never have guessed that she would pout like this.

"What's wrong?" Miki asked when she noticed that he had stopped cleaning her wound, "Oh… Are you weirded out that I'm acting like this?"

"Oh! Um… N-Not really," Shadin lied, a nervous and guilty look crossing his face.

"You're lying so badly right now," Misaki laughed softly as Shadin sighed in response, "I'm the kind of girl to say what's on my mind… no matter what it is."

"Well… I'm all done wrapping your wounds," Shadin eventually said, breaking the silence that formed after that.

"Hey… You were looking at the animals in this pet store weren't you?" Misaki suddenly asked, an embarrassed blush quickly covering Shadin's face, "I'll take that as a 'yes'. Any animal in particular?"

Shadin sat there for a moment, before finally muttering his answer, "The cats… and the hedgehogs…"

"A cat or hedgehog then?" Miki repeated before standing up, "Well, I always pay back my debts. See you later!" she said with a smile before running off.

"Debts?" Shadin repeated, a confused look on his face.

June finally stepped up to her apartment door in the Ursine Rampart keep, the woman quickly entering the apartment so that she could go to her room and finally change out of her filthy clothes, which had been ruined on her mission and reeked of death.

Her apartment was for three people, with all three bedrooms being filled by someone. Although the apartment also had two bathrooms and a good-sized kitchen, but she and her roommates were lucky enough to get an apartment with an eastward facing balcony, so that they had a view of both Apricot Town and Sakura Village, although the view of the sunrise from there was also spectacular as well. The apartment had wood flooring in the public space and the walls had been painted white while they also had the Ursine Rampart guild mark painted on the wall near the entryway.

Fortunately for the three of them, they all had similar tastes in furnishings. So sitting in the public living space was a comfy black, modern styled couch and a few modern white chairs sitting around a coffee table while several abstract sculptures and lamps throughout the apartment to keep in bright, although there were also several vases and valuable paintings around too. The kitchen's layout was nice a spacious though, with a counter acting as the border between the living area and the kitchen, which had a black and white color scheme to it.

"Smells like someone had a hard day today," she heard one of her roommates call out.

June turned to look into the living area, seeing her two roommates, Osamu Saito and Felix Hendriksen sitting around the coffee table in the living area, both of them having their noses in a book.

Felix was a tall, twenty-one year old man who stood at 6'1" with a lean and well-toned build. His golden Ursine Rampart guild mark stood out against his tan skin on his right forearm. Felix had short brown hair that was slicked back, as well as a short brown goatee while his eyes were a golden color and his pupils were notably small. He wore a pair of black dress shoes with a pair of dark blue jeans and a black leather belt that had a silver buckle on it. Felix wore a white, button-up shirt that had the sleeves rolled up with one button left undone while he also wore a black, unbuttoned suit jacket over it, although its sleeves were rolled up to his elbows.

"At least I did some work today," June replied as she walked through the room, "Did you do anything of note?"

"Touché," Felix chuckled, "I suppose the most memorable thing I did today was watch Victor piss off Norah. He's gonna have a hell of a hard time over the next week."

"What about you, Osamu?" June asked as she took off her jacket before throwing it in one of the bathrooms.

"I actually did something productive today unlike this lazy bum," Osamu stated as he pointed at Felix, "I got Mark to train today," he answered in a proud tone as he flipped the page of the tome he was reading

"At least I know how to have a good time," Felix chuckled as Osamu let out a sigh before a question came to his mind.

"Did that mission I got for you go well?"

June paused for a moment to consider what all she should tell them, considering she hadn't even spoken to Boris about her mission yet.

"Hm… I suppose you could say it went well," June finally answered, "I didn't get hurt and the mission is considered to be complete."

"There has to be more than that bare bones explanation," Felix stated as he turned his head back to look at June, "C'mon, what happened?"

June let out a sigh as she kicked off her high tops, "Ghouls happened, if you must know."

"Ghouls?" Osamu repeated as a slight look of shock crossed Felix's face, "In our crypts?"

"Yeah, but they should all be gone now," June replied dismissively.

"How'd they get there?" Felix asked, still looking back at June, "Normally that priest… ah what's his name? Cassius? Usually he makes sure everything's all right, doesn't he?"

"He gave me some line about how Father Lamar believes men and women of the cloth should be pacifists before sending me down there with a smile."

"That sounds like him," Osamu scoffed, "He's kinda shifty for a priest."

"Eh, it takes all kinds as they say," Felix stated before snapping his book shut and standing up, "I'm gonna head off to bed, don't stay up too late now, squirt," he said as he dropped his book on the coffee as he walked around the couch to head to his room.

"I'm not a squirt," Osamu mumbled under his breath.

"I'll be heading to bed too," June stated as she turned around to walk into her room behind her, "I'm tired after running up and down those crypts all day."

"Well, goodnight," Osamu called out as June shut her bedroom door behind her, "I suppose I should head to bed too," he sighed as he shut his tome, the book letting out a loud 'thud' as it closed shut.

A/N: In a single appearance, Emilia has had more success with being perverted than both Issac and Yoshi… Is that sad or impressive?

The winner of last chapter's event was WaterDragonMaverick! The four they listed were Nobuyuki Inoue, owner of and head chef at Inugami Ramen, Amelia, a nurse at the Zentopia Hospital, Mayor Richard of Apricot Town and Mayor Katsuo of Sakura Village.

Festival Special Question

What was the gender of Ursine Rampart's fifth Guild Master?

I will be impressed if someone gets this quickly, but I have mentioned it in the story, so you've just got to find it.

Anyways, as usual, the previous winners, GhostOfOnyx, bored kid 48, MyDearWatson, StormRider2.0 and WaterDragonMaverick cannot win another event til it's time to plan the Autumn Fighting can still participate, but they can't technically win to keep things fair.

And of course I will be sending a PM to the winner.

Do keep in mind that I'm still accepting OC Villains as well as Side OC Characters! Please check out the forms and maybe kick one or two my way!

Now onto the reviews!

SaiyaStyles- I might've considered it to be Castor's name in all honesty since that's the sort of impression I was looking to leave for him. And you think the battle ended too quickly, do you? Well so do I! Hints have been dropped.

WaterDragonMaverick- Well I'm glad to hear that I wrote Monty well in his second appearance. But yeah, Rucca's certainly an interesting guy, there's quite a bit going on with his personality. And honestly, I wasn't reading into the legend behind Castor and Pollux when I named Castor, as his name was originally something else, but we'll see how things go for him regardless in time.

ThePrinceOfLight- Yeah, the three sleepyheads are pretty interesting, but yeah, Monty should have realized that he wouldn't be able to get the three of them to move. He just has a hard time with lazy people since he's always running around doing something. But yeah, that Takeshi guy… is he really gone for good?

Sakura-Fiction- Yeah, zu. You can tell a person's a jerk is someone like Avalon doesn't like them, zu. And I don't want to say too much, but as of right now the 3rd Guild Master is dead, Takeshi was a former ace of the guild. But yeah, he had a few screws loose.

DarkHyena- Yeah, Castor's the kinda Rune Knight that enjoys flaunting his authority and letting others know that he could arrest them if they give him cause. Not a nice person over all. But anyways, I hope you enjoyed the chapter!

MyDearWatson- Yeah, Rucca's an interesting guy. He's a bit on the lazy side, but he's kinda crafty. But yeah, Castor was made to leave a bad impression for sure, a real condescending guy, that one. And yeah, Takeshi's sort of a taste of what's to come, but yeah, is that really the last we'll see of him?

SpuSpu- They are the most laidback out of both guilds for sure. You'll find no bigger layabouts than them. But yes! The Festival is coming up and plans have been made! But yeah, we'll eventually learn why Castor is prowling about Apricot Town.

lex1016- It just sort of happened so that Arielle hangs out with a couple of guys over 6 feet really. I felt the three of them would sorta click despite Arielle being so vertically challenged. But yeah, Dokutsu's gang will probably never learn their lesson.

Origm2012- It's no problem, stuff like that happens every now and then. I like Miko better when she's lighthearted too, to be honest. Sad Miko makes me sad, and then I just start writing sad stuff… But yeah, Boris is blessed with responsible and mature S-Class mages that he can trust to help run the guild, unlike Mitsuko, who has to be incredibly cautious lest one of her S-Class run Kitsune's Garden into the ground (and I'm sure you can tell who I mean…). And honestly I'd call Undine the shady one between her and Misaki. Miki's open with her dislike of Mitsuko while Undine's a bit of a schemer really.

potentialauthor18- Ah, an insightful one! Yep, there's a bit more to Castor than meets the eye (otherwise he'd be quite one-dimensional). But Cassius? Do something like unleash Ghouls on the crypts? What? No, no. Why would you think that? He'd never do that. But then again… Although on the other hand… Would he?

ESombre- Well I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed last chapter so much and I hope you enjoyed this one as well!

Raiyane- I have an odd talent for writing cute characters for some reason, I don't know why… But anyways, I'm happy to hear that I did well with Silas last chapter. But yeah, for now June's trip into the crypt has been resolved. Mini-arc over. Story… complete. Or is it? And I always had trouble with Falmer for some reason… I was a sneaky crossbow wielding assassin type character who for some reason could never hide from the BLIND Falmer! But enough of my rage, I always vented that on the undead… Draugr and Vampires alike really.

StormRider2.0- Well, I can tell you that I won't be introducing the other Dragon Slayer through June's mini-arc considering that it's complete. But Kitsune's Garden's Dragon Slayer has actually already been introduced, I just haven't told you all who it is yet since I'm keeping everyone's magic more or less under wraps til the Fighting Festival.

DiskyFrisbee- Hehe, well my track record before this story wasn't the greatest to be honest. But yeah, this story is going strong since it really got going. But yeah, I was actually thinking of doing something along those lines once the Festival Special Events were over so I'd have something else to put down there. Some basic information, a small description of them, some quotes, something similar to the guild cards you'd find in the Fairy Tail manga to be honest. And really, Rucca was the only one who would actually give Monty the time of day out of the three of them, if he hadn't been there, Silas and Saria probably would've just outright ignored him. And yeah, Castor was pretty much the one in control of that entire confrontation.

FrozenBlast13- Yeah, the three lazy bums often resemble me as well, but yeah, I feel like I've left enough hints the past few chapters for you all to look at June's scenes to try and figure out the true fate of Takeshi. Hmm… I wonder. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the chapter!

bored kid 48- I honestly haven't figured out too many teams yet, but the three sleepyheads would certainly make for an interesting one. And usually Dokutsu has such good luck when it comes to not being caught, but there are high points and there are low points I suppose, but yeah, we'll eventually see this 'big boss' of the crypts I'm sure, but for now, the mission's over and I don't know, you'd think Takeshi might have something like that, eh, we'll see won't we?

JJun- Well it's no problem if it takes you a while to review! I'm just happy to get one really. But anyways, I hope you enjoyed the chapter!

All right! As usual, I'd like to thank everybody for their submissions and I hope that I've portrayed everybody's characters well thus far. I'll try and have the next chapter up by next Tuesday as well!

I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and don't forget to leave a review!
