(Kyloth)
The young boy was watching in wonder as I flew gently above the clouds. It was close to midnight and we have been flying all day over open ocean, excluding a few small island stops for food and water. The stars filled the sky like a bottle of glitter dumped onto black paper by a three year old. The moon shone bright, large and round, directly above us lighting our way. The boy shifted positions on my neck and laid down, head touching the top of mine and arms hugging me. "Kyloth" Adelo whispered softly "what was your family like." The boy asked, curious and tired. A few moments passed as the sounds of wind gently rushing pass us was all to be heard as I felt my heart beats increase. "Some things are better left untold, Adelo. The burden of my past is heavy and is mine to carry alone." I said to him as we flew through the night sky. "Get some rest" I said then started a descent below the clouds, where the air was warmer. A soft snore came from Adelo as I searched for Islands to land.
Two rocky island came into view with a larger one covered in forest and a smaller one, both had cliffs surrounding all sides. The small one contained a human settlement with many homes, shops and a walkway leading to a dock complete with boats. A bridge connected both island and, judging by the looks of the buildings, these humans were dragon killers, 'Vikings' they call themselves. Four large statues made of stone, carved to resemble a human, poked out of the ocean near the island and fire burned in its mouth, illuminating the area around it. Large constructs were positioned on platforms on the edge of the village, five maybe six, designed to throw rock great distances at attackers. It's risky but I'm sure I could find a cave hidden in the forests of the larger island safe enough to rest in for the night.
After a few circles over the island, I spotted a cozy cave high up in a mountain on the island. It was impossible to be reached by humans and the entrance faced away from the wind. With a beat of my huge black wings I gently landed inside the cave, as to not wake Adelo up. The boys soft snores bounced off the walls. With a twist of my head, Adelo slid off my back and into my paws where I wrapped my limbs around him then my huge wings covered us both, keeping us warm. Exhaustion took over and I fell asleep in seconds.
I was first to wake since dragons require less sleep then humans. I lifted my wings up a little to check on Adelo. He was still fast asleep, safe in my hold. I waited until the sun wasn't visible from the cave entrance then heated the ground with my flame. Adelo slowly awoke with a yawn as I set him down on the ground, releasing him. He stood up, stretched his arms and rubbed his eyes then looked outside. "Is that a village?" He asked pointing to the smaller island joined to this one. A few houses could be seen from the cave but the rest were out of view. "Can we take a look?" Adelo asked "I've never seen a village before." Excitement was radiating from him as he stood at the entrance of the cave, staring at the few visible buildings. "Humans, especially these ones, don't take kindly to my kind Adelo. I'm afraid it is impossible to see the village up close." Adelo's thought about my words then nodded. "Your right Kyloth, I forgot that people know of dragons as mindless killing beasts, after all we've been through together its easy to forget." A shard of pain crossed my heart as he spoke these words but I knew what the boy meant.
"If only I could turn us invisible" he said "then we could sneak in at night unseen." I couldn't but help smile at the boys ambition to cast such powerful magics. "Such spells are much too advanced to cast without a spell book, Adelo." Adelo looked at me curiously then said "What does a spell book do?" The caves air smelt stale and a change of scenery could do us good. "Get on my back and I'll tell you everything I know." We flew out the cave and into the forest, landing in a huge hole in the ground but with vegetation growing in the bottom of it and a pond with small fish. It was like being surrounded by rocky cliffs. Adelo slid off my neck and laid down in the grass and watched the clouds. I did the same as I soaked up the warm sunlight, heating my hard scales. The boy shifted on his side, facing me then asked for me to tell him everything. I told him stories of great battles between humans and dragons, the story of a great sorcerer who could wield powerful magics with a book and an orb. How he killed many dragons and their queens who plagued the humans for years, stealing their food and burning their buildings.
When I was finished, I walked over to the pond for some water to drink and wash in, leaving Adelo to think by himself on the grass. The fish in the pond scattered as I entered the water. "So" said Adelo "if I had one of these Mythical Tome's and an Orb, I could use it to defeat Navi." I rolled around it the water a bit then replied "Perhaps, but you must understand such items are very rare since most are destroyed when their owner dies. The human magicians call it soul binding, if they are killed in battle then their tome's are destroyed with magic so their enemy can't use it. The few that exist today were locked in temples, buried under ground and kept secret for hundreds of years. The locations of these temples were lost between generations and the humans didn't risk writing down in books for fear of the power these tome's can wield." Adelo threw a rock at a boulder while lying down, annoyed. "So that's it then. We'll never find it even if we wanted to. How do you know all this anyway?" He asked.
I stepped out the pond and walked back over to him, water dripping off my hide. "My father had an obsession with humans and wanted to learn as much as he could, so I was told. Whatever he discovered, he shared with everyone in our nest. It was very dangerous and frowned upon by many since humans were the enemy back then and still are in most nests."
"Hold on, your telling me your hundreds of years old?" Adelo said.
"I have only seen 24 winters Adelo, but my kind is able to live for thousands of years."
"Then we can go to your father and ask him if he knows were the temples are." Sadness washed over me and Adelo picked up on it. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"My father died spying on a village late at night a few winters before I hatched. Everything I know of him comes from my mother who also passed away from an infection after a fight with a flame-wearer to save my life. I would not be alive if it weren't for her bravery." Adelo apologised but I dismissed it. "There's no need to dwell on the past. If you do, it will only drag you down." I said. "Are you hungry child?" Adelo's stomach rumbled as he put his hand on it. "I could eat" he said then stood up and jumped onto my back. We flew out into open ocean, close to the water not far from land as that's where the best fish swim, Atlantic cod these humans call it.

It's done.

"So" I said "how will we find this book and/or whatever this orb is?" Kyloth swallowed another fish and I took another bite of mine, cooked perfectly over an open fire. The dragon tapped his tail against the ground in thought. "Since no humans will know, unless one recently discovered a temple, we'll have to find out from dragons." I nodded in agreement and took another bite. "Where can we find one old enogh?" food flying out my mouth. "There are many old nests still at war with villages, they will have elder dragons. However, this means you will not be able to come with me." I spat my food out and wiped my mouth "what!" I said "but I've never been in a dragons nest before." I complained "I bet it looks really cool." Kyloth chuckled. "I have told you that these nests are at war and filled with human killing dragons. Even if it was a regular nest, you would be killed before getting close. I myself might not be able to enter, strangers are unwelcome usually."

Adelo said no more that evening, deep in thought. The flight back to the cave was uneventful as the sun set on another day, the sky turning a brilliant pink colour. Thunder clouds, big and dark, were rolling in towards the village ready to unleash their fury ontop of them. I suggested we slept deeper into the cave for protection but Adelo rejected the idea and formed a imperfect stone wall with a few window holes, covering the entrance. "Where did you learn to use magic like that Adelo?" He dusted his hands on his shirt then looked at me and smiled. "Watch this" he said as he walked over to the middle of the cave and created a floating orb of fire with his hands, giving off heat and light. "I found sheets of old paper in dream space with spells written on them. The first few pages was readable but the rest was gibberish." He sat down on the stone floor, legs crossed, warming his cold hands with his magic fire orb. The wind grew more fierce with every minute outside the cave. Rain began to fall from the sky by the bucket load and a clap of thunder cut across the sky, illuminating the clouds for a split second. "We should get some rest. Come" I said, as I laid out a wing for the boy to rest on. "For now we rest."

The storm tore roofs of some of the houses and scatted things everywhere. It was a mess. "Chief!" I yelled to the tallest figure who could only be Stoick. The rain pelted us from all sides reducing our vision to mere meters and the lack of light wasn't helping either. Bits of wood flew around dangerously, threatening to injure someone. The chief somehow heard my call through the storm and walked over to me, fighting the rain. "What is it?" he asked. "All villagers are accounted for except two. Three are dead and seven injured. The chief stroke his beard. "Do we know who is missing" he shouted over the storm. I gave him a look of pity as I mentioned his only son, Hiccup, and the young blond girl, Astrid. "Find them!" He shouted "we can't loose two of our best dragon fighters let alone my son!" I gave him a nod and headed off to relay the orders to the other Vikings.
The storm passed and the damage assessments were done. The chiefs son and the girl weren't found anywhere in the village but the news hadn't reached his ears yet. The sky was unbelievably calm after such a devastating storm as a few lone clouds passed over us harmlessly and the sun rose peacefully singling a hard day of repairs and work to begin.
