Chapter 8: Mr. D

Kerria walked beside Zander, keeping pace with him so that she would not get lost or bump into another one of those 'angel' things. One thing that Kerria could not get that voice out of her head, it was so familiar. Like a long lost friend, or someone from one of her countless schools that she attended. As she was mulling over her thoughts, she did not see that Zander was staring at her.

Zander observed Kerria as she was walking. She was deep in thought, but what was she thinking of. His thoughts brought him back to only a few moments ago. Nico had pushed my last button. Zander thought. Calling Kerria a monster? Unthinkable, she is just so sweet and kind… Why would he think that Kerria's a monster? Is he seeing something that I'm not seeing? Zander stared at Kerria, nothing looked out of the normal. Café brown hair, gold eyes, about 5"7 in height, and pretty well built.

Before Zander had noticed they were at the Big House. He was so lost in thought that the rest of the camp flew by. He was now standing on the first step of the Big House, Kerria was just staring at the tattered blue paint that was peeling off the large building. Kerria turned to look at Zander, her expression was one of confusion. She had no clue what was going on, and she kind of looked scared.

"Don't worry Mr. D is bearable when you get to know him… Just don't get on his bad side." Zander said, trying to reassure her.

"Well… Let's go and meet him then." Kerria said

Zander and Kerria stepped into the main room of the big house. It was a large room with a ping pong table in the middle, a leopard head was mounted on the far wall, and an old packman game buzzed quietly on the corner. Nobody was here, not a single soul. Until a man in a wheelchair came around the corner, he was tall (considering that he was in a wheelchair), had longer dark brown hair, and a scruffy beard. He made his around the ping pong table, and pulled up to them.

"Zander, I am glad you are back. This must be the demigod you were speaking of, Kerria I presume?" The man said.

"Yes Chiron. This is Kerria Waston… We had to extract her because a manticore attacked her school." Zander replied.

"Just a manticore? She seems a little scratched up for just one manticore." Chiron stated.

Kerria looked down at her arms. They were scratched up and bleeding, she was in too much shock to even feel the pain. She tugged her shirt, so that the biggest cuts were covered. She turned away from Chiron, hoping that he would not figure out what really happened.

"We got attacked on the way here… by creatures not of our myths." Zander spoke quietly.

"What do you mean by creatures not of our myths?" Chiron said.

"Let me show you. Carlos! Get your feathery butt in here!" Zander yelled.

Carlos fluttered in and landed on the ping pong table. He had landed halfway between Zander and Chiron. His feathers fluttered slightly as he ran his beak through them. When he had finished he lifted his head and spoke calmly.

"You called Zander?"

"See what I mean…" Zander said to Chiron. Chiron's face turned from a smile to a frown.

"Why is this creature here? How did it get past the wall?"

"I let it in..." Zander said.

"Zander come with me for a moment please." Chiron said turning around.

Kerria just stood there, as Zander walked away with this Chiron fella. She was worried about Zander. Was this the way that he felt when I was in danger? Kerria thought. Don't feel this way about him! You are in danger the longer you stay here. He will betray you! That voice echoed in her head again. Why would you say such a thing? Zander just saved my life twice in the past 3 hours! Kerria answered the voice in her head, but when she waited for the voice to talk back, it went silent. Carlos fluttered his wings and yawned. Other than that Kerria felt that she was in a void of silence, all alone…
