Chapter 8
Raven couldn't believe it, Christmas was finally here and she got to go home and see Diego and Livy. Ever since she had woken up, Raven could not wipe the smile off her face.
She had missed her friends dearly and just passing letters back and forth wasn't helping Raven with her home sick.
"We can visit, right?" Aiden had asked her.
"Of course!" Raven stated. While Raven was at school, Livy had told her that she got rid of all the weeds, fixed the house and now it looked like it had once did except the front gate still had weeds all over the fence. Livy figured Raven wouldn't want any muggles snooping around.
"Great." Aiden said with a smile. From the corner of his eye, Aiden saw Pansy glaring their way. Why her, father? He thought with a grimace.
"Yea." Raven said before standing up. "I have to go meet Headmaster Dumbledore before packing." She bid her friends goodbye before walking towards the Headmaster's office.
Headmaster Dumbledore's office was located on the third floor. Raven stopped in front of a Gargoyle statue and pulled out the paper she was given earlier that day.
Skipping over the parts about wanting to see her until she found the password. "Sherbet Lemon." Raven said and the gargoyle leapt out of her way and revealed a moving circular staircase. She jumped onto a step and waited till she reached the top.
At the top was two large double door waiting. She lightly knocked on the door and waited for a 'Come in'. The headmaster's office wasn't like anything Raven has ever seen. Their where portraits of what Raven believed where other headmasters, many tables filed with silvery devices and right behind the headmaster's desk, was the sorting hat.
After exchanging a polite hello with the hat, a bright colored bird caught her eye. The bird was about the size of a Swan, with bright red hair and dark eyes. Raven tried to remember where she had heard about a bird that size and color when a deep male voice caused her to jump.
"That is Fawkes, my pet Phoenix." She turned to find Headmaster Dumbledore sitting in a chair by the door.
"I'm sorry." Raven quickly apologized.
The headmaster laughed at the young Slythrin. "No need to apologize, Ms. Mason. You are so much like your parents."
"You knew my parents?" Raven asked in shock. Though it shouldn't have really shocked me. She thought. He is the headmaster after all.
"Yes." He smiled. "Your mother was one of Hogwarts most intelligent student. She was at the top of all her classes, a prefect and the most stubborn girl I had ever seen." He smile lightly. "Your father was the complete opposite of your mother. His grades where barely passing, he loved playing pranks on his teachers and had a bad temper. I believe your parents first met in Potions class, it was the only class your father enjoyed.
"At first your mother wanted nothing to do with the Slythrin but your father never gave up. Soon they began to met in secret and not long after, they fell in love." His eyes held happiness for the young couple as he remember them sneaking out after curfew, believe no one knew and he had watch their love blossom.
Raven smiled. She was finally learning about her parents but it still didn't answer her main question; What happened to them?
She knew they where killed when she was a child but she never knew why. Livy hardly ever talked about them and Mr. Mason never spoken a word to Raven about them. Livy had been the one to tell her that they where killed and that for a short period, she had lived with her godparents. Raven didn't even know what their names where. When she had asked Livy, Livy just smiled and said 'When the time comes, Livy will tell her young mistress a tale'.
Headmaster Dumbledore watch the young girls expressions from love, happiness to curiosity. "I have something that had belong to your father." He reached in his desk and pulled out a small paper and handed it Raven.
Raven looked at the letter with curiosity shinning in her eyes. "What-?"
"He had given it to me the day he had found out about you. Wait until you are alone and read it. It shall clear up some confusion." With one last nodded, Raven exit the headmasters office with the letter clinched in her hands.

Raven laughed as Aiden tried to hid behind Julian. "I'm sorry!" He yelled at the Hufflepuff student.
Primrose glared at the Slythrin while saying a cleaning spell to get the chocolate frog out of her hair. "Why are you friends with him!" Aiden and Primrose have been arguing since they abroad the train that morning.
Aiden had bought a Chocolate frog but ended up losing it in Primrose's hair. "I said I was sorry!" Raven could see Aiden trying his best not to laugh at her Hufflepuff friend.
"I'm sure you are!" Primrose snapped. After removing the chocolate from her blonde-dyed hair, Primrose stood up. "I'm gonna go find Susan and Hermione. See you this sunday." Raven nodded as Primrose walked out.
"That wasn't nice, Aiden." Raven said with a small chuckle.
"It's not my fault the damn thing jumped!" Aiden threw his hands up with a mock surrender.
Raven rolled her eyes. She did agree that Primrose's face was priceless but it still didn't make it right.
"So, whats this sunday?" Julian asked.
"Primrose, Susan and Hermione are coming over for the night." Raven said.
"I didn't know you where friends with Susan nor the Gryfindor." Raven heard the slight discussed when Julian said Gryfindor.
"What is with this rival between Slythrin and Gryfindor?" Raven asked.
"Well its always been that way." Aiden said. "Since Salazer Slythrin only wanted pure-bloods to be allowed in Hogwarts. It would seem that Salazer and Godric Gryfindor used to be friends until then. That was when Salazer decide that only the Slythrin house would allow other pure-bloods who see the way he does about Muggle-borns."
Raven still was confused. If her parents, One from Slythrin and one form Gryfindor could get along, why couldn't both houses be friends?
Julian joked. "Only the bad are sent to Slythrin, after all 'You-Know-Who' was a Slythrin."
Who is this 'You-Know-Who'? Raven keeps hearing that phase yet she doesn't know who it is. "Who is the 'You-Know-Who?" Raven finally asked.
Aiden head snapped up and looked at his Slythrin classmate. "You don't know about 'Him'?" She shook her head no. Lowering his voice Aiden began to tell Raven about the Dark Lord, Voldemort. "The Dark Lord was a powerful wizard that was once a Slythrin student like us. He was Hogwarts most talented pupil. After his fourth year, he left Hogwarts and soon after, he embraced the Dark arts..." Aiden began to tell Raven the tells of the Dark Lord and how became the most feared wizard in history.
"Wait." Raven cut him off. "What is a Death Eater?"
"His followers. They are witches and wizards like us except they practice dark magic and have the Dark mark; a skull with a snake." Aiden then finished his tale of how the Potters where killed. "After killing James and Lilly Potter, the dark lord had turned his want to a young Harry Potter but the curse had backfired and the Dark lord was never seen again. Other than the lighting cut on Harry's forehead, he was unharmed."
"If Voldemort was this all powerful wizard, how did a small child take him out?" Raven asked.
"No one knows." Julian let out a small chuckle. "After his parents death and The Dark Lord's disappearance, Harry was known as The Boy Who Lived. He was a hero but Dumbledore thought it would be best for Harry to be raised in the Muggle world with his muggle aunt."
Raven barely listen to him. Voldemort. That name sound so familiar to her, like she had heard it once before. As she tried to remember where she had heard it before, a male voice with deep malice filed her head.
I shall find you, child and when I do, you will regret ever crossing me!
Raven jumped at the voice before pressing her hands over her head. Where did this headache come from?

Raven did not recognize her home. All the windows have been replaced, the yard had been mowed and weed free. It looked how it did before Mr. Mason had died.
At the sound of a dogs woof, Raven grinned and ran towards her dog. As much as she loved Hogwarts, it was good to be home.

Meanwhile across London, in a mansion far from the Muggle eyes, was a middle-age man staring off over the trees around his home.
His long blonde hair was framed across his pale skin. His dark brown eyes watched the house elfs work on saving his loves garden.
"My lord?" A young house elf, Milly, he believed was her name. "Here is the water, my master had asked for. Milly made sure it had crushed ice just like how Master liked."
The man grabbed the water and took a sip. "You may go." The house elf nodded and left her master to his thoughts.
With one last sigh, the man left the balcony and went back into his bedroom. He sat the water down and picked up a small picture frame. The picture was of his beloved, Maire. A tear had fell from his eye.
The picture was taken in his firth year of Hogwarts. The year before it all changed. The man gave the picture one last kiss before laying down on his bed.
Goodnight, my love. Was his last thought before darkness took over.

Back at the Mason mansion, Raven sat alone in her room with the letter held tightly in her hand. With a deep breath, Raven opened the letter.
'To my darling child,
If you are reading this, it means that for whatever reason, I am no longer there. I can not express how deeply sorry I am.
By now, I am sure you are starting off on your first year in Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore has agreed to watch over you while their. Have you made any friends? Any crushes? Whats their names?
I'm sorry if I am rambling on, my child. I just wished you would hurry up and come out so I can hold you! Ever since I got pregnant, I have been craving hot and spicy stuff. Your father says you got that from him.
I wonder if you will have my eyes and your fathers hair. Maybe the other way around? The other night, me and your father had came up with names. If a boy- Avery Hayden and if a girl; Raven Marie.
The main reason I am writing this letter is if I do not survive the war, I want you to know who your parents truly are. Your father has promise to keep The Dark Lord far away from us but it is only a matter of time before he finds out.
I must go, Lily and James are waiting for me. I still can't get over how those two got together.
Please remember, even if your father was a Slythrin, he loved us both. You will always be his little lion.
Mom'
Tears filed Ravens eyes as she re-read the letter. It was shorter than Raven had hopped but it was something her mother had written to her.
It shall clear up some confusion. That is what the headmaster had told her but it brought her more questions.
How could her father keep the Dark Lord away? How would he find out about her and her mom? Why did it matter if he did? Who is Lily and James? Are they her godparents?
With these questions flying though Ravens head as she climbed into her bed.
The same voice from the train filed Ravens head before sleep took her.
I shall find you, child and when I do, you will regret ever crossing me!
