Chapter 8 The Answer
Lacey was taken back by Jose's question and her face turned a bright red. She turned her head away breaking the eye contact as she answered. "I would like that very much" she said bashfully. Jose smiled as Lacey answered and wrapped her into a big hug. Lacey looked at Jose and smiled. "What's on your mind Lacey?" Jose asked. "Nothing I'm just curious to where we're going to go for our first date" Lacey responded with a giggle. Suddenly the bell rang and, they both went inside for their next class.
For the next hour the only thing that Lacey could think about was Jose and the special time they were going to have. At the end of the class the teacher asked her to stay behind to talk to her. "You wanted to see me ma'am?" she asked The woman answered "Yes, I did you seemed to be a little distracted today and I wanted to make sure everything was all right" the teacher said. "Oh, yes ma'am everything is great Ms. Mash. You see a boy I like has asked me out and I guess my mind started wandering." Lacey said. "Oh, I see well congratulations I"m so happy for you, have a great time but don't get to carried away" Ms. Mash said with a slight laugh towards the end. "Yes, ma'am" Lacey said as she ran out the door, and headed home.
Ms. Mash was the school's English teacher. She always looked out for Lacey and could make Lacey smile constantly. Ms. Mash was someone that Lacey went to when she had to vent or to talk about something or even just to spend a few extra hours with. In the short time the two knew each other they grew to be close friends.
The next day to school Lacey was surprised to see that Jose was outside the door waiting to walk her to school. Lacey grabbed her piece of toast and shouted upstairs "Mom I'm headed out for the day see you later." As she left the house she grabbed two lunch boxes and walked with Jose to school. On the way there she noticed that other people were giving them weird looks and some were even giving them mean ones. Lacey thought, "I wonder what's gotten into everyone this morning." The two kept walking until they reached the shoe lockers just inside the main door. They gave each other a hug and said together "I'll see you at lunch on the roof." they laughed that they had said it at the same time and walked to their classes.
All day Lacey and Jose couldn't wait till lunch time and when the bell finally rang the two bolted out of their classrooms and up to the roof. When they had reached the top of the stairs they looked for each other and hugged each other before spreading out a blanket to enjoy their lunch together. During lunch they sat and talked about what they liked and what ideas they had for their first date. Lacey liked that she was being included in the decision making for the date, but finally she said to Jose "surprise me" and Jose smiled. The bell rang again and the two gave a tight hug before cleaning up and heading back to class.
The final class of the day for Lacey was English and before the class started she asked Ms. Mash if they could stay after class and talk again. Ms. Mash smiled and said, "Sure we can do that but let's get through today's lesson." Lacey nodded and took her seat. Ms. Mash started the class by making an announcement "Class today will start a week long project and it'll be a simple one." The class groaned at the mention of a project just as they always did. "Relax, this project is super easy all you have to do is create a character and write a two paragraph story for them." The class looked around at each other and then Ms. Mash continued "The project will help you get you thinking creatively and get you to think about your individual writing styles." She smiled and with the announcement over she allowed the class to work on the project for the day.
After class was over Lacey stayed after and talked to Ms. Mash about the project but also about what she was going to do when Jose and her went on their first date. She was curious if Ms. Mash could give her some helpful tips on how to not be so nervous. Ms. did her best to assure Lacey that everything would work out. Ms. Mash asked her "Will you let me know how it goes?" Lacey responded "I will do that and thanks for all your help today and I can't wait to show you what I'm going to do for my project." Ms. Mash smiled and nodded "I'm looking forward to it.", she said and Lacey left for home.
