†Replacing You†

It was early afternoon. The day was bright and the winds were a comfort as sweaty workers went about their business outside.

However, inside the Church of the God of Light things were not bright at all. There were two knights in the bedroom of the Church's leader. One sat on a chair, looking extremely comfortable as he rubbed lotion over his soft hands. The other stood closer to the door, having just entered.

The Sun Knight smiled, tilted his head to the side and said, "Adair, you're no longer needed anymore."

The man by the door stilled, frozen solid with his hands still holding onto a tray of food. "C-captain?"

"Don't bother coming here in the mornings either. Take a nap or something."

No... Captain, please don't say that. I want- I only wanted to...

"Better yet, go find yourself a girlfriend. You're not getting any younger."

For once, the multi-talented vice-captain of the Sun Knight was at a complete loss. Was he being replaced? By whom? And why? Why, after so many years of serving, was he now getting fired? What did he do wrong?

"Ah, and before you leave, make sure you tell Lesus. He was the one complaining about the dark circles under your eyes."

Dark circles? So he had to leave his post because his appearance was that of lowly scumbag hyped up on drugs.

Ah, that's right. Of course. No one less than perfect could stand side-by-side with the Sun Knight.

More so, it was the Judgment Knight who wanted him gone? Who did he think could serve better? Who was so perfect that he was just a rusty old knife in comparison?

No... No! This wasn't right! He was the only one perfect enough! He had trained so hard, so very hard to be able to best everything that was thrown his way. He couldn't just give up now!

"Captain! I refuse!"

"Huh? But-"

"Please don't replace me! I'll do anything! I don't want to leave the Church of the God of Light!"

The Sun Knight furrowed his brows gracefully. "Well, if you really feel that strongly about making me breakfast... Ha! And here I was, thinking about letting you date in your spare time! Haha!

"Okay! You can start over by getting me a blueberry pie from the bakery in town. Although you'll be leaving the Church to do so, you can't just laze around the windows with a good view of the Sanctuary of Light like a church hermit. We already have too many of those here."

Adair didn't really understand but he nodded nonetheless. "Yes sir."

"Oh yeah, and tell Judgment that you definitely want to continue serving me even if you keel over and die one of these days."

"...Yes sir!"

† (A few days earlier)

"If Adair's not here, then who's going to bring me my breakfast?!"

Judgment sighed and rubbed his aching forehead. "The cooks."

"What about my clothes? Who's going to wash them? And who's going to do my paperwork- Storm almost died the last time he attempted to do all of mine at once! And, and-"

"Knight-Captain Sun! Enough! Adair's the one who looks like he'll collapse at any moment. You've been pushing him too hard lately. Haven't you even noticed how dark the circles are under his eyes? He needs a break!"

Sun frowned, becoming upset. "...Can I have a replacement for him then?"

"What kind of replacement? You're not thinking of making Leaf wash your clothes and Ice cook your meals, are you?"

"No, just... Well, Pink always had an undead creature clean her place. I don't see why I can't do the same."

"Sun," Judgment looked at a loss, "are you really asking me what's wrong with having an undead creature roam around freely in the Church of the God of Light?"

"Have you forgotten that Roland's not exactly "alive"?"

"...Fine. But only for a few days until Adair's complexion returns to normal. And you'll be the one responsible for explaining the presence of an undead in the Church if anyone finds out."

"Of course!"
