"Well I didn't foresee this." The Doctor said as he looked around the cell for a way out.

As soon as they got to the 1950's, they hadn't even stepped out of the TARDIS before a transmat beam picked them up and placed them on a very large space craft. When they finally did leave the TARDIS, they were seized and thrown into a jail cell.

"Come to 1950's London he says. What could possibly go wrong?" Rose mocked as she sat on a low bench in the corner.

"Look Rose I'm trying to find a way out of her OK. If they hadn't taken my sonic this would have happened a lot sooner." The Doctor said as he was feeling for a weakness in the bars.

Rose got up and stretched. "I know I was only makin fun." She walked over to the bars and poked her head through as much as she could. "There is a guard down the hall." She pulled her head back in. "Maybe we should come up with a different plan?"

The Doctor stopped to look at her. "What do you have in mind?"

A few minutes later one of the guards came down the hall. "What's going on in here?"

"I don't know? She just suddenly collapsed on the floor. I don't think she's breathing!" The Doctor cried.

The guard opened the door to check on Rose and that's when the Doctor struck. He elbowed him in the back of the neck and he fell to the ground. "See I told you that would work." Rose said as the Doctor helped her up.

"Alright well let's hurry up and find my sonic and get out of here." The Doctor took the keys off the guard and closed the cell behind him. "Wouldn't want you getting out and telling your friends."

They ran down the hall past other cells. All of them were empty except for one they had passed. Rose stopped and doubled back. "Oh my God!"

The Doctor stopped and turned around. "Rose what are you doing? If we stop, they'll find us"

"Doctor look." Rose said as she pointed inside the cell. The Doctor walked over to where she was to see what she was pointing at. He looked at her after he saw the figure sleeping on the low bench. "We have to help him."

"After I get my sonic. We can't do him any good if we get caught either." The Doctor took Rose's hand. "Come on."

They continue to run through the halls, narrowly missing being caught. Finally they found the room where they kept all the confiscated objects. "Doctor I found it." Rose said as she pointed to the door.

The Doctor went up to open it, but it was locked. "The doors locked. What are we gonna do? If I just had my screwdriver, but it's in that room."

"Step aside, I got this." Rose said as she moved the Doctor out of the way.

"What are you gonna do?" The Doctor asked as he stepped back.

"Just watch my back." Rose pulled out two bobby pins from her pocket. She unbent one and stuck it into the lock. She took the other one and place it in there. She wiggled them around a bit in the lock before the door clicked open. "Yes!" She opened the door with a proud look. "After you."

The Doctor looked at her with amazement. "Where did you learn to pick a lock?"

"You learn a lot when you chase a Time Lord for two years." Rose said with a smile.

"I don't know how I feel about this?"

"Well figure that out later. We have a sonic screwdriver to find." Rose said as she pushed him into the room.

It didn't take the Doctor long to find it and Rose found what she was looking for quite easy as well. Before they left Rose dropped off what she had in the man's cell and left a note along with it.

When they left that area for the second time, an alarm went off. "Looks like they know we've escaped." Rose said as red lights flashed above her head.

"Well I guess that means we just have to hurry to the storage room." The Doctor said as he grabbed her hand and started to run.

Meanwhile in the man's cell he woke up to the sounds of the sirens blaring. "What the hell is going on around here." He sat up and looked over to the cell bars, that's when he noticed it. He got up and looked down the hall in both directions before picking it up along with the note.

"Just thought you were gonna need this. Can't have you running around without it. Here's to hoping we will meet again in this world. Your friend Rose."

"Rose huh? I hope we meet again too." The man said as he folded the note and placed it in his pocket. At that moment the guards came up to his cell to check on him.

"Hey how did you get that?" One of them shouted.

"Sorry guys, but I got a girl I need to meet." The guy said as he punched in coordinates on his device and disappeared in a beam of light.

The Doctor and Rose made it to the storage room. It was a very large room with all sorts of things inside it, among them was the TARDIS. "How did you know the TARDIS was going to be here?" Rose asked while the Doctor unlocked the door.

"They have to put all the things that came with the people they picked up with the transmat beam somewhere." The Doctor got the door open and hurried Rose inside.

Rose stopped at the door and looked back. "Do you think he got out OK?"

The Doctor was at the control panel ready to punch in a destination. "We did all we could for him. He has to take care of himself Rose. Remember, he's not ours."

"Right." Rose closed the door and ran up the ramp to the Doctors side. "Let's get out of here before they find us."

The Doctor flipped some switches and pulled some levers, and the TARDIS jerked to life. When they were safely spinning through time and space, Rose sat down in the jump seat. The Doctor was pushing buttons when she let out a deep sigh. "Rose don't be upset, you know him and if he's anything like the one in out world, he'll be absolutely fine."

"I know, that's not what I'm worried about." Rose said as she moved a bit in her seat.

"Well then what's wrong?" The Doctor had stopped pushing buttons and walked over to where she was. "Your not getting second thoughts are you?"

Rose laughed. "No Doctor, of course not." The Doctor calmed down a bit. "Mum was right though. I need to pick out a dress and well I don't really have anyone to do that with."

The Doctor frowned. "What about me? I could go with you."

"No, you can't see me in my dress before the wedding; it's bad luck."

"Oh right." The Doctor leaned up against the control panel with his arms crossed.

"I wish Jack was here." Rose said with shiny eyes. "He would have been really helpful in this situation."

The Doctor suddenly got an "Ah ha" look on his face. He tuned around and started to pull levers and turn knobs. "I have an idea Rose. It's quite a long shot, but if I'm right, which I always am; this will work."

Rose sat there looking very confused. In a few minutes the TARDIS landed. "Where are we Doctor?" Rose asked as they walked down the ramp to the door.

The Doctor opened the door and out side was a big city. There were smoke stacks with smoke rising out of them. The place looked like it was stuck in the 1900's, the only difference was there was cars. "Welcome to the planet Makina, the planet of machines."

Rose snapped her head in his direction. "Planet of machines?"

The Doctor took her hand. "Let's go into town." As they made there way through town, Rose noticed that even the people dressed like they were stuck in time. Rose was surprised to see how humanoid they looked. She was going to ask a question, but the Doctor answered as if he knew what she was going to ask. "These people look like this cause they ARE human. A long time ago a group of people came to this planet. They settled here and began to build. They favored technology and machines over other things. It seems here though, instead of moving forward like everyone else around them; they wanted to perfect their art."

Rose looked around, trying to see what he was talking about. "But what technology do they have here? The only thing I can see that is remotely advanced is that they have cars, and even those look like old buggies."

"Some of these people Rose, their not human." The Doctor said in a low voice, almost like he didn't want anyone to hear him say it.

"If they're not human, what are they?" Rose asked, almost afraid of what he was going to say.

"They're androids." The Doctor stopped and pointed to a shop in front of them. "And that is where we are going."

Rose looked to where he pointed. It looked like a clothing store. "What are we gonna go there for?"

The Doctor gave her a warm smile. "I have a gift for you, but it needs to be made first."

Rose was very confused, but she followed the Doctor to the shop. Inside was a number of mannequins. An old lady was behind the counter looking at a case of glass eyes. "Ah, how may I help you two today." She asked as she put one of the eyes she had in her hand down.

The Doctor pulled out an envelope. "I need you to make this for me. Inside you'll find everything you need."

The old lady picked up the envelope and looked inside. "And what shall it be named when it's done?"

The Doctor looked over at Rose then back at the old lady. He leaned over the counter and whispered in her ear. The old lady smiled. "So how long will it take for it to be done?"

The old lady put the envelope in her pocket. "No more then two days."

"Great!" The Doctor took Rose by the hand and left the shop.

"What's going on Doctor?" Rose asked once they got outside.

"We are gonna do a little sight seeing." The Doctor started to make his way down the street.

"No, I meant what was that back there in the shop?" Rose pulled on his hand for him to stop.

The Doctor turned to Rose. "If I told you what it was, it would ruin the surprise.

Rose's face turned red. "Well..." She let the sentence fall there. She didn't know what she was going to say next anyway. They walked past a lot of shops and businesses. "So how can you tell which ones are human and which ones aren't?"

"That's the thing Rose, I can't." The Doctor motioned to a girl at a flower shop. "You see that girl? For all I know, she could be an android."

Rose looked at the girl as she placed a bunch of flowers into a bucket. Rose wrapped her arm around the Doctors. "So what are we gonna do while we're here? Two days is a long time."

"We could always go back to the TARDIS and go in time two days."

Rose let go and gave him a toothy smile. "Knowin' you, we'll come back in two hundred years. You couldn't even get twelve hours right."

"Hey! I've gotten better since then." Rose laughed as she moved out of the way. He was going to grab her. "Your not going to let me live that down are you?"

"Not on your life. The way you looked when mum slapped you. I really thought you were gonna storm off and never come back." Rose's smile faded as she remembered.

The Doctor took her by the hand again. "You want to go see what kind of food this place has to offer." Rose nodded her head.

The found a small inn that had a pub attached. It was all very old english. Rose insisted that they sit at the bar. "Oh you know I always wanted to go in a place like this." Her eyes lit up as the bartender walked up to them. He was a big brutish man with a lumberjacks beard.

"What can I get for ya?" The bartender said as he leaned against the bar on his arms.

The Doctor looked around to see if they had any kind of menu or something like that when suddenly Rose shouted, "I'll have a pint of ale!"

The Doctor and the bartender curiously looked at Rose. Suddenly the bar tender let out a hearty laugh. "Yes ma'am!" He looked at the Doctor. "And what about you?"

The Doctor let out a sigh. "I'll have what she's having and whatever today's special is." He went into his pocket an placed a few green coins on the bar. "Will that be enough?"

The bartender's eye grew large. "That enough to get what you want and buy everyone here a round."

"Then let's do that. I'm in a good mood today." The Doctor said with a smile.

Rose looked at him with amazement. "I never knew you were so loaded. If I had known that, I would have married you a long time ago."

The Doctor and Rose laughed. The bartender came back with their drinks and a large plate of meats, cheeses, and fruit.

The special of the day was a sample plate. The Doctor shrugged his shoulders and motioned for Rose to have some.

Rose picked up her mug and looked at the liquid inside, it was a dark color. "Your making me an android aren't you?" She started to drink.

The Doctor was in the middle of enjoying something that looked like grapes, but tasted like of like apples. He picked up his mug to wash the food down. "You know it was suppose to be a surprise."

Rose looked over at him. "You don't have to tell me of what; all I know is that's what you're doing." She took another drink.

"Why don't you just find another person to travel with us?"

"And put them in risk of danger?" The Doctor sounded angry. "No Rose, that wouldn't be fair for them."

"But we picked up all those other people."

"That was different Rose, YOU picked up those other people. I never wanted all those people with us." The Doctor started to eat again.

"How can you say that? You liked Jack!" Rose slammed down her mug; some of the ale inside spilt out. Some people were starting to stare.

Without saying anything, the Doctor got up and walked out. Rose jumped out of her seat after him. She followed him back to the TARDIS, all the while Rose was trying to get the Doctor to explain himself. Once inside the TARDIS, the Doctor took no time in making sure that they went ahead two days exactly. It might have been the first time he actually got a date right.

When the TARDIS jerked to a halt, the Doctor looked over at Rose. She was sitting in the jump seat with her arms crossed glaring at the Doctor. "I never said that I liked Jack or ever wanted him to come along with us. I brought him aboard the TARDIS to save his life, you were the one that insisted on him staying with us and the whole time I had to compete with him for you affections."

Rose got up and slapped him. "Jack was our friend! I should have figured you hated him cause you left him the first chance you found it convenient." Rose stormed out of the TARDIS with tears in her eyes.

The Doctor stood there rubbing his face. Slaps hurt more now that he was human. He let out a sigh and shambled out of the TARDIS after her.

Rose didn't know where she was going, all she knew is she wanted to get away from the Doctor. She spotted the shop that they went to two days ago. she knew now that it wasn't some kind of clothing store that she thought it was the first time and those things she thought where mannequins, were really bases for the androids.

Rose walked inside and spotted the old lady being the counter. "Ah your back. Just in time, I'll go get him."

"Him?" Rose was a little confused. She propped herself on her elbow against the counter. "He probably made me a Mickey or something." Rose said laughing to herself.

Rose was looking out the window when she heard footsteps come back into the room. "Hey Rose."

Rose's heart skipped a beat when she heard his voice. Everything seemed to move in slow motion when she turned to look at him. There he was, standing there in black boots, black jeans, and white shirt. "Jack?"

Jack walked over to her and gave her a big hug. "I've missed you so much, well as much as I think he would miss you."

Rose slowly wrapped her arms around him. She could feel the warmth of his body and the softness of his skin. "You feel so real."

"I know. The wonders of technology. I can even bleed. There's a red fluid that flows through my body. It carries electronic signals to different parts of my body. The central computer in my head acts like a brain sending messages. It's really no different then being human." Jack gave Rose a wink.

Rose pulled away to get a better look at Jack. "But I thought the Doctor hated you."

"I never said I hated Jack." The Doctor had came into the shop and was standing by the door. "Jack has been a better friend to me then you know." He started to walk over to where Jack and Rose were standing. "I may not have wanted him to come along with us, but once he was there, it was like we were a family." He placed his hand on Jack's shoulder. "I'm sorry I left you on the game station."

Jack smiled at him warmly. "You know there are no hard feelings. I understand why you did."

Rose looked at both of them very confused. The old lady behind the counter chuckled. "Don't worry about it sweetheart. Men have a strange way of showing their affection towards each other."

Rose looked back at them and smiled. She placed her hand on the Doctor's arm. "I'm sorry I slapped you earlier." Jack had a surprised look on his face.

The Doctor kissed her on the forehead. "It's OK."

Jack wrapped his arms around there shoulders. "What have I been missing?" He said with a huge grin. The Doctor and Rose laughed.
