Remember how I would either post one more long chapter for year six or two short ones. Yeah, the two short ones turned out being long ones so you guys will get two long chapters after all! Surprise! They are writing themselves idek. This baby is two thousand plus words long so you better show it some love.
Ok here goes.
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. I really don't. *sigh*
Albus rolled his eyes from where he was sitting on a black leather chair right next to the fireplace, shaking his head for what appeared to be the hundredth time. Scorpius had been pacing around the dimly lit Slytherin common room for the past half thirty minutes, preventing Albus from taking a much needed nap.
Scorpius took a turn when he came across the dungeon wall once again and made to keep on walking around aimlessly, when a pillow came into contact with the back of his head, startling him and causing him to trip over his own legs and nearly lose his balance. Glaring Albus way just to see him smile smugly his way, Scorpius plopped down on the other armchair and focused his eyes on the burning logs opposite him.
A shuffling noise broke him from his trace and he just barely managed to catch the flying pillow midair. Thank Merlin for that because this time around Albus had opted for one of the heavily stuffed leather pillows and Scorpius knew from experience that they could very easily cause minor injury.
"Cut it out, will you?" he hissed, blue yes glaring daggers but Albus only shrugged, folding his legs beneath him, getting comfortable.
"Stop being so bloody annoying and I might"
"I could get in a lot of trouble for sneaking you in here, the least thing you can do is stop physically assaulting me, don't you think?" Scorpius raised an eyebrow at his friend.
"Sorry for not being all that grateful, but have you taken a look around?" Albus raised his hand to gesture towards the dungeon wall, the chandelierand a couple of portraits. "This place is seriously creepy mate, no wonder you are the way you are…"
This time it was Scorpius' turn to aim a pillow towards Albus face. The raven haired boy ducked it with ease. "Always bitter" he murmured, settling back on top of the chair. "These leather armchairs are fucking brilliant though, I'll give you that" he went on, patting the leather while doing so.
"Well, I am thrilled that your ass is enjoying itself but I happen to have more important things to worry about." Scorpius scoffed.
Albus leaned his head against the head rest, a groan escaping his lips. "Your affection towards my younger family members is making me uncomfortable"
"Your cousin's constant denial to give me a chance is making me equally uncomfortable."
"We all know that will ask her out to the Ball anyway, you might as well get yet another rejection over with" Albus reasoned, eyeing the cupcakes gracing a silver platter on top of the little wooden table on his right. "These look edible but I am too wary of your fellow house mates to take any chances" he grumbled.
The blonde Slytherin exclaimed in protest. "It is only a matter of time. Besides she might actually go with me."
"Let me know how that goes" Albus said, standing up in the meanwhile. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go find myself a date"
Scorpius chuckled "Just stand in the middle of a hallway and they will come to you"
Albus waved his hand in a mock salute and winked as he approached the exit of the common room "You are the one who makes it difficult for yourself mate" he reminded him and Scorpius rolled his eyes at those words even though the other boy was no longer in sight.
He was about to pick up his backpack and head toward the dorm rooms when a familiar voice got him to turn around mid-way.
"We should really stop sneaking Al in here." Marco made an appearance and Scorpius figured that he must have bumped into Albus on his way in.
"We are both prefects. No one would dare say a word anyway" Scorpius waved his hand dismissively and raised an eyebrow as an afterthought. "What are you doing here anyway? I would have thought you'd join Albus in his search for a perfect date."
"I am going with Alice"
"She dumped you" Scorpius reminded him, shaking his head at his friend's denial.
"She'll come around" Marco said with a shrug and went on ignoring Scorpius' unimpressed expression. "You should be the one worrying. I hear a lot of guys are after that ginger obsession of yours"
"First of all, don't call her that. Secondly, I doubt they have more chances than I do" The blonde boy's overconfident tone of voice caused Marco to scrunch up his nose.
"I don't know that Ravenclaw bloke, what is his name, Bonnet, seemed pretty sure of himself when he was carrying her books around for her this morning." Marco said, resting his head on his hand. "He is not bad looking either"
Scorpius' eyes narrowed at the name of the Ravenclaw team's seeker. "I've never liked him"
"Yeah well, you'll probably like him even less when he is valsing across the great hall with Weasley in his arms"
"I hate you sometimes" Scorpius gritted his teeth as he kicked his backpack away and towards the fireplace, barely missing the flames, turning to walk, no strut, the other way seconds later.
"Where are you going?" Marco called, leaning back against the sofa.
"To find Rose"
"You go Scorp!" Marco cheered, raising his head to look Scorpius' way once again soon after.
"Hey!"
"What is it?" Scorpius was almost out of the portrait when he turned around, an eyebrow raised.
"Could you possibly stop by the kitchens on your way back and bring some actual cupcakes because these look suspiciously colorful?" Marco asked.
"Fuck you Zabini!" a distant voice was heard.
"Oh well, I'll get my own"
…
It was almost eight o'clock at night and the library was buzzing with voices of more students than Rose would have liked. Apparently many students had decided to spend their evening studying for the upcoming quizzes and exams and Rose couldn't blame them really. She was too there after all. Could she blame them for making too much noise and interrupting her trcae of thought? Oh yes, that she could do.
The library had always been a place representing tranquility for her and she would have liked to see it remain such a place, especially when she needed it the most, like that evening for instance, but it seemed like she was out of luck. Instead of whining about the current situation, Rose patiently waited for dinner time, when ninety nine percent of the students in question would happily clear out, no longer concerned about their studies and academic success.
Rose had chosen a table at the far end of the library and she let out a relieved sigh when the last one of the overly loud students closed the heavy door behind them. If not having dinner was what it would take for her to get some peace and quiet and finally finish that one essay that had been the cause of her constant nightmares that past week then so be it. In between of planning for the Christmas ball and making sure that her flawless student image remained intact Rose hadn't gotten any time for herself and she was reaching her limits.
The wooden expanse of the library table in front of her covered almost entirely by books, and of course the planning notebook she couldn't go without by that point. Realizing that there was actually one book that she had forgotten to add to the pile, Rose pushed her chair backwards, grimacing at the noise her actions caused and made her way among the selves, in search of the heavy tomes.
She missed the sound of the library door opening and the not so cheery greeting of the librarian as she moved towards a different section. The soft sound of careful feet making their way around the rows of books were not enough to alert Rose of what was coming and that was why she found herself jumping in surprise and bringing a hand to rest against her chest when upon turning around she was met with the sight of a very determined looking Scorpius Malfoy, leaning casually against a tall bookcase to her left.
"It is just me" the blonde boy he chuckled slightly, taking in Rose's alert stance.
Bringing her hand back to one of her sides Rose shook her head "Am I supposed to feel relieved?" she asked, her lips tugging up to form the smallest of smiles.
"Definitely" Scorpius replied, grinning lazily at her, taking in the way Rose had raised her long ginger locks into a messy bun after a while of them getting in her face while studying, loose curly strands framing her face in a way that appeared to be effortlessly elegant.
Her blue eyes looked up to lock with Scorpius' grey ones and he could only hope that the way his breath hitched for only the smallest of seconds had gone unnoticed by the girl standing so very close to him. "Can I help you with something?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and Scorpius' focused his eyes and nodded absentmindedly, steadying himself against the heavy books using his right hand.
Rose moved around him to examine the titles of the books on his other side and turned her head in question when she didn't hear Scorpius' response.
"Let me take you to the Christmas ball" Scorpius let out and even though he could possibly think of one hundred and eighty seven ways to have approached the topic in a smoother way, the words were still out and in a satisfactory non stuttering way so he would take it anyway.
Rearranging his stance to look more confident, Scorpius didn't fail to notice the way Rose's body froze for a couple of seconds before her finger kept on tapping on numerous book titles. The redhead turned her head, her expression calm, even though the faint blush on her pale cheeks gave her away just a bit, and raised a wondering eyebrow.
"And why would I do that?" she asked, causing Scorpius to let out a tiny huff of annoyance. Of course she wasn't going to make this easy for him.
"I think I'd make decent company" Scorpius smiled softly, taking Rose by surprise. He quickly went on, in a matter of fact tone of voice. "Besides, we are the most eligible candidates for the head positions next year, you and I both know that, so why not make a start? It would only be appropriate." The blonde boy reasoned and Rose sighed. Of course she knew the above. The prospect of sharing chambers with Scorpius had had her thinking alright. It was a terrifying yet refreshing possibility.
"I don't know" Rose really didn't. She wasn't sure whether she wanted to finally give up and give this thing, whatever it was, a chance or if it would be better to simply turn her head away and move on with her life.
She didn't have the time to make that decision when she felt a warm breath hit the back of her neck, alarming her that Scorpius was closer than she had expected him to be. Rose shuddered as his lips lightly grazed her ear, the words leaving his mouth whispered softly. "I don't bite princess"
The words were surprisingly soft and somewhat comforting as Rose could feel his body right behind hers, barely touching, just enough for Scorpius to make his presence known. Rose's lips formed into a smile. Scorpius hadn't called her princess in almost two years and back then it was mocking and then teasing. For the first time, the word sounded like an endearment leaving his mouth, a nickname used to show affection, and Rose couldn't help the goose bumps running through her body.
The girl didn't see the continuation of that sentence coming and the rush of heat making its way to her cheeks was immediate.
"Unless you are into that" Scorpius bit her earlobe gently for effect before taking a step back, a smug grin gracing his pink lips.
Rose turned her body to face him swiftly, still baffled by the smirking boy's actions.
Scorpius looked victorious and Rose could detect the pure excitement behind his carefully placed smirk and smug look, so she shook her head with a soft smile and took a step backwards, reaching out and finally grabbing the book she had been looking for.
"I am going to regret this" she started and the way Scorpius' eyes lit up got her to continue. "My dress is going to be gold, make sure we'll much" she sighed and walked away leaving a grinning Scorpius behind.
