Chapter 8: Traps
"Caspian, when are we going to stop?" Chantelle complained as they rode past another tree.
"When we get to where you need to be," Was his heavily accented reply.
"That's what you said 2 hours ago, how far away is this place?" Eleanor asked. Instead of giving a reply, Caspian rode a little faster till he was out of ear shot and unable to answer the question.
"God, why did we have to get stuck with him, I mean at least Edmund and Peter have a sense of humour," Gail moaned as she lead her horse around another tree.
"I know. My butt is so sore it's not funny," Reena added.
"Don't worry after a while it becomes numb so," Eleanor replied back with a smile.
"How long have we been traveling for anyway, this was exciting for a while, now I'm just wondering how the movies make this look so interesting," Chantelle said, watching up ahead carefully to make sure she could still see Caspian.
"Like 7 hours. I think that when we get back we need to convince the King's and Queen's to make a law against this torture," Gail declared, picking an apple from a nearby tree and taking a big bite.
"I second that motion," Eleanor exclaimed picking her own apple.
"Third it," Reena said.
"Fourth it," Chantelle agreed with a laugh.
"Can we also see if we get to use machine guns?" Reena asked, bringing up her weird addiction to the weapon.
"NO!" They all exclaimed at the same time, causing Reena to pout.
"Quiet it down back there!" Caspian shouted from his position from the front. "Do you wanna be found out?"
"Might make this endless ride a tad more interesting," Gail mumbled causing them all to laugh.
"Caspian can we at least stop and take a quick nap and eat? If I have to ride any longer I think my horse might just collapse, hey Elsa," Eleanor asked, patting her horses head.
"You got that right," Elsa, the horse, muttered.
"Fine, for the horse's sake," Caspian said pulling on the reins.
"And ours," Chantelle added, slipping off her horse, tying it to the tree. Soon the girls were settled in piles of leaves with blankets on the top and were drifting slowly to sleep.
"Where are we heading anyway Peter?" Lucy asked as they rode through the forest in the opposite direction to the others.
"To where the first war was fought with the Telmarines," Was his reply as he ducked under a branch.
"I thought we collapsed the place though," Susan said urging horse a little faster.
"Don't worry, Edmund and I thought about that, we have a plan," Peter confirmed before speeding off.
"He always seems to have a plan," Lucy muttered to Susan as they followed in pursuit.
"We will leave in an hour, at dusk so get ready," Caspian informed as he walked over to the girls who were happily eating some fruit.
"Yes Sir!" Gail said mockingly as he walked off.
"I know we wanted to stop but don't you think it's kind of stupid to travel at dark? I mean I almost fell off my horse 5 times last night smacking into unseen tree branches," Reena said, taking a big bite from her banana.
"I know," Eleanor replied.
"I wish we knew where we were going, it's starting to get really annoying," Chantelle claimed.
"Me too," Eleanor agreed.
"You're just agreeing with everyone this afternoon aren't you?" Gail said to Eleanor.
"Sure," she said, nodding.
"Anyway, who's up for finding out?" Chantelle asked.
"Me," Was the combined reply.
"Awesome, Caspian!" Chantelle shouted.
"What is it?" he asked, nearing the girls.
"We want to know where we are going," Reena said firmly, the others nodding behind her.
"And we will not take 'I cannot say' or anything along the lines of that as an answer," Gail added as Caspian examined the girls.
"We're going, somewhere," he finally decided before turning around to leave.
"You suck!" Eleanor shouted as he walked away.
"Well that was pointless," Reena said after a moment's silence.
"Yep," the others all agreed before going back to their food. By dusk the girls were well fed and rested and the horses where eager to go.
"Elsa, do you know where we are going?" Eleanor asked her horse as they began to ride again. She decided it was worth a shot to see if the horse knew.
"If we were going east then I'd say we would be going to Aslan's Keep. It was destroyed in the first battle with the Telmarines when the Kings and Queens returned but I heard from Henry, Peter's horse, that they have been fixing it up because it's really significant to Narnia or something along the lines of that but we are going west so I would guess that we are heading to Mr and Mrs Beavers house. The Beaver family have been living there for years and help the Kings and Queens on their first trip so we have quite a strong alliance with that family," Elsa ranted as they chased after the others.
"Right. How far away to you suppose each place is?" Eleanor ask as the sky booms above them.
"Aslan's Keep is another hour or so away. It should take us maybe another 3 or 4 to reach the Beavers," Elsa said.
"Thanks," Eleanor said as she placed the hood of her cloak over her head as a soft rain began to fall.
"Yay, rain, this journey just keeps getting better and better," Gail said sarcastically causing the others to laugh.
"I think we are heading towards a house owned by beavers," Eleanor claimed as the others settled down.
"A house owned by beavers?" Chantelle questioned as she shared a weird look with her other friends.
"I can see you doing that and yes the horse told me so," she said proudly as the others tried to suppress grins. "O man, I sound crazy," she suddenly exclaimed after thinking over the words while the others burst out laughing.
"Anyway, so we're heading to a beavers home. Do you know how long till we get there?" Reena asked, giggling slightly as she said beavers home.
"Elsa says 3 to 4 hours," Eleanor said as Elsa nodded her head proudly.
"Yeah 3 to 4 more hours of riding in the rain. The news just keeps getting better," Gail said.
"Yep," Chantelle agreed as they rode on in the misty darkness.
"Are we there yet. Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" Eleanor said as she rode carefully through the forest, it had been an hour since she had the conversation on the beavers home and the rain had given up only a matter of minutes ago.
"No. No. No," Chantelle kept answering.
"What direction are we heading in anyway?" Reena asked as they rode across quite a wide river, the water almost reaching the horses' stomachs.
"West," Eleanor said placing her hand into the cold water.
"What? We're not heading west, we're heading east," Gail said suddenly.
"But if we're heading East we're heading towards a battle field," Eleanor replied as they exited the river and rode back into the forest.
"Caspian, where are you taking us," Chantelle said, more sternly this time as realisation washed over the girls.
"To the battle," he replied calmly as they exited into a clearing.
"Gail, I don't think you have to worry about this being boring anymore," Reena said as they stop their horses, examining the situation before them.
"I know," she replied as she reached for her sword, watching carefully as the Telmarine army pointed theirs at her.
