When Past meets Present

Chapter 7:

Spending time with Hinata

Takashi sat on the Fourth's head, whistling as he looked down at the village. Gazing at the buildings, he really felt as though Konoha hasn't changed any at all in the twelve years, but the people around him have, a lot. He feels sometime overlooked, being that he's so much smaller than everyone of his time. Anyway, he pushed that aside, and continued gazing. Kakashi had already gone ahead to train his team, and Takashi decided to join them at a later time. A sigh escaped his lips, seeing that his entire team has all died. It ached his heart so much that to see Naruto grow up without having any parents around, to be alone all his life, knowing that his sensei didn't live to see his son grow up. And he himself is living a life without Rin. In addition to that, just looking at the village, he remembered the Kyuubi attack. The destruction, the panic, and the fear…everything…he wouldn't want to see that again, worse if he's the cause of it. Deep down, he has a feeling that Yuki will only get to revive Dracos and not extract the chakra from him. Especially what happened two days ago still terrified him. Takashi leaned backwards, looking up to the sky. Seeing the blue sky and the white clouds made him think. However, he was taken out of his reverie by a voice.

"Takashi, what are you doing up here?" he was jolted upright, as he didn't expect to see her standing before him.

"I was just-just-just," he cleared his throat, realizing his stuttering; "I was just taking into view the village that's all."

"Now you're stuttering." She chuckled. "Why all of a sudden?"

"It's nothing." He blushed. She couldn't see his face though, as the scarf hid his entire lower face. She then took a seat beside him and looked at the village. He kept staring at Hinata, as the sunlight gave her hair a beautiful sheen. Her skin was radiant, sparkling. Takashi was mesmerized by her, and by her personality, she reminds him of Rin. He couldn't control himself, as he was constantly being reminded of her. And what was worse, in this time, Rin isn't alive.

"Takashi," she called. "Why are you up here? Shouldn't you be training?"

"Yeah, I should but…" he paused with a chuckle. "I'm not in the mood right now."

"But won't your sensei be upset?"

"Nah, he'll understand." He smiled. "After all, we do think alike."

"What's his training like?"

Takashi chuckled. "Well, let me tell you a story. We were supposed to capture him once, and we formulated a plan that was bound to work. It did work, but all that time, we were just fighting a clone. The man was in the bush watching all along."

"How was Naruto-Kun?"

"Naruto?" looking at her face now, he could see that she has an interest for Naruto. Her cheeks actually flushed red, but none the less, she was beautiful. "He was the usual. You know the 'I want to be Hokage' kind of vibe." His voice descended as he felt somewhat hurt. But why should he be hurt? After all, he didn't belong in this time frame anyway. He then rose to his feet and grabbed her hand. "Take a stroll with me?"

"Sure," she smiled.

The two then jumped off the mountain side, running a top the roofs. For some reason, they were both giddy from just running with each other. Takashi was enjoying this moment, as he got to be with Hinata.

"By the way," she started. "Where are we going?"

"There's a lake around training ground forty, you'll see." Takashi stopped, and stooped down with both his hands behind him. He was urging her to get onto his back. Without question, she jumped on, and then Takashi took off. She felt giddy with fun, as this was the very first time that she was riding on a ninja's back. She felt like she was flying, the experience was just so fun.

Soon they neared the training grounds. The evergreens were clean and pristine, beautiful. They landed on the grassy ground, Takashi walking to the lake. She followed, and was mesmerized. The calm of the lake soothed her as she approached it. Takashi beckoned to her to sit by him and she did. She took off her sandals and then placed her feet in the water. She could feel the serenity of the water; she inhaled the air, feeling the freshness and vibrancy of it.

"How do you feel? Relaxed huh?" Takashi grinned.

"Where did you find this place?"

"When you train too much and end up destroying other training grounds, you're forced to explore."

She chuckled and then it turned into a laugh. Just being here with Takashi, she felt at ease, she felt relieved. The two then stayed there, splashing water at each other, and having fun. They ran atop the water, Takashi creating various clones to grab her. But Hinata was fast. Within a moment, she was beating the clones with her thirty-two hands. Making it across the lake, she tripped on a wild vine and fell. Takashi was at her side in an instant, aiding her to her feet. She got a glimpse of his face as the scarf had shifted a little. That left her wanting to see more of his face.

"How about we go for ramen?"

"Sure, why not?"

"Let's go."

Hinata brushed the dirt off her clothes, and began their trek back to the village. When they reached the gates, they waved to Kotetsu and Izumo and walked merrily through the streets. Takashi shoved both his hands into his pockets while Hinata walked beside him. He was itching to hold her hands but he fought back the urge. Upon reaching the small restaurant, Takashi waited until she was seated before he sat.

"So, why aren't you training?" He asked her. "The chuunin exams are right around the corner."

"Yeah, I know. But I think I'm ready."

"I hope you do well." He smiled. "And I know you'll do well." She smiled at him, giving him a warm feeling inside.

A few minutes later, their ramen arrived. They chatted about a myriad of things ranging from training sessions, to missions to just ordinary free times with friends. Between the two of them, they were laughing and having fun. But then she realized something. Because he was eating ramen, he had to pull down his scarf. She caught her breath, seeing that he's a very handsome youth.

"I don't want to sound mean but why do you like Naruto?" He asked. "Because it's obvious that he likes Sakura..."

"I -"

"I wouldn't want one day you confess your feelings to him and then he turns you down or just doesn't give a reply." Takashi said, not waiting for her to finish her sentence. "I don't want to see you getting hurt. Naruto just doesn't know that having a girl like you is a wonderful. The guy basically sees right through you." Takashi sounded hurt, but upon realizing what he just said, he looked at her and said, "I'm sorry about that. I didn't -" he broke off, hearing her sniff. "Hinata, I didn't mean -"

"It's alright. But I think that you should be heading to your training now." She said, holding down her head. "You don't know anything!" She shouted at him. She ran out of the restaurant with tears streaming down her face. Takashi didn't argue, he paid for the ramen and headed out.

"Kakashi!" Team seven stopped in their tracks as they heard a wail. Kakashi shook his head as he saw what was barrelling towards them. Takashi.

"I need your help."

"I'm sorry to be late would be nice first." Kakashi said with nonchalance. "Training has just ended."

"Yeah!" Naruto agreed. "You're even worse than Kakashi-sensei! At least he shows up. But you arrive when everything's finished."

"I'm sorry that I'm late. But Kakashi, I really need your help."

"And that would be..."

"Hinata's angry at me." When Kakashi heard that, he could only manage a laugh.

"How does one make Hinata mad?" Kakashi chuckled.

"I sort of told her the truth about, you know..." he then turned to look at Naruto and whispered to his older self. "Him."

"Let's wait until we're home."

Sakura kept looking at Takashi as she couldn't understand or imagine Hinata angry. What was even worse, she wondered what exactly could've made her angry.

Reaching back to the village, everyone went their separate ways; Takashi was itching to reach home, so that he could have his problem fixed. Kakashi whistled as he went along, however, it was at a very slow pace. Takashi got irritated, and threatened his older counterpart about his books. Giving in, Kakashi decided to help.

"Just go apologize." He said, "It isn't rocket science."

"I tried before. It didn't -"

"You don't apologize in the immediate moment. She won't listen because the wound is still fresh. Wait until she has calmed down, that way she's bound to listen as she has gotten time to think on what you've said." Kakashi said lazily. "But if you had stabbed her..."

"Okay, I understand."

"What are you waiting for? Go find her!" Kakashi said giving him a violent push forwards and smiling. Takashi nodded and vanished from Kakashi's eyes. He then ran on top of the roofs, scanning the streets hoping to see Hinata. But then a thought entered his mind. Maybe she's gone to train, relieve herself of what I've said. He sighed and changed his course. Reaching the training grounds, it didn't take long to find her. Her chakra signature was the only one in that area and he was glad for that. He raced towards her, putting too much chakra in his feet. She stood before a pond, gazing at her reflection. Takashi approached her with caution, and when close enough he called out to her.

"Hinata,"

She turned around to face him but didn't answer. Coming closer to her, he tried to have a smile on his face. However that wasn't possible. Behind Hinata, he saw a shape. He looked at it, and then grabbed after her. The shape saw his attempt and also grabbed at her. The shape was faster, and soon Takashi realized that he was grabbing at air. When the shape came into view he realized that it was Yuki. He cursed under his breath but remained calm.

"Come with me, now."

"Why should I?" Takashi spat.

"I need to loosen your seal and make preparations on Kakashi's part."

"You know my answer." Takashi reached for a kunai but that didn't startle Yuki.

"Well, she'll die then." Yuki held Hinata by her throat and squeezed. Hinata didn't move as her limbs had ice around them. Worried, Takashi hadn't the slightest idea what to do.

"Time's running out Kakashi."

"Shut up!" He shouted at him. "I'll make you let her go." Then he remembered the kunai in his hand. A wild thought entered his mind but it was the only way he could save her. Yuki needs him alive.

Takashi stabbed himself in the abdomen.

Without hesitation, Yuki discarded Hinata and rushed for the boy. But, Takashi had summed enough chakra to move to Hinata's side. She was lying on her side coughing as Yuki had held her by her throat. Grabbing her and throwing her over his shoulder. Yuki let out a roar, and rushed to the teenagers. Out of fright, Takashi held out a hand before him and out spewed needles of ice. Yuki shield his face even though he wore a mask, but by the time he uncovered his face, they were gone.

"Gai, are you sure?"

"Positive! It's just us jounins at the dango shop what's so wrong?"

"But why dangos? I hate sweet things."

"Well you're going to love them as of now." Entering the dango shop, they noticed that they were the last ones to arrive. Gai and everyone else were energetic, for some strange reason.

"Kakashi! Good that you could join us!" Anko shouted with glee.

"I was harassed."

"How about a challenge? Who can eat the most dangos?"

"I'll pass." Kakashi said in his usual lazy tone. Gai pouted at him but he didn't care. Suddenly, he felt a pang of pain in his abdomen. "One minute guys." He said as he made for the exit. Before he could exit, his limbs totally stiffened. His vision blurred and then he began to sway. Within seconds, Kakashi was on the floor, motionless.

"Kakashi!" Gai bellowed. He rushed to his aid with the others behind him.

"What happened?" Kurenai asked.

"I have no clue." Gai took him up and then they went to the hospital.

"I'm really sorry about what I said earlier." Takashi said between gritted teeth, as he hopped though the trees. The pain was throbbing wildly in his abdomen, causing him to grunt every now and then. "You're right, I don't know anything and I end up hurting you instead." Takashi nearly slipped off the tree branch due to the dizziness caused by the excessive bleeding.

"You're wounded. You shouldn't be exerting yourself like that." She said softly. "And thanks. But you're the one who's right. Naruto does like Sakura so why should I pursue?"

"In case he gets older and more sensible." Takashi chuckled. "I may not be around."

"What makes you say that?"

"Look at what happened a while ago. I'm basically bleeding to death."

She gasped. "Takashi put me down and ―"

"Oh look, it's the hospital." He smiled. "Plus you need to thaw out. Aren't you freezing?" He was now breathing through his mouth, and felt weaker.

"Strangely, no. My body only feels stiff."

"Hmm. Well, can't always be too sure." Takashi was grinning seeing that he's back on good terms with Hinata, ignoring the overwhelming pain. When he landed on the ground, he gently put Hinata down and then the two limped off into the hospital. When they entered the building, they had to step aside quickly, as Gai carrying Kakashi would've run them over. Kakashi looked pale in his face, and stiff as a statue. Without a word, nurses rushed to the jounins, and placed Kakashi on a stretcher. They then walked briskly down the hall. When Takashi saw, worry overtook him. Even though he was dying of pain and about to pass out, he was worried. "How could I have been so careless?" He whispered to himself. After saying this, he moved off but collapsed on the ground.

Kakashi leaned on the frozen walls, wondering how he is not freezing to death. He had woken up in this room, with ice on the floor, a frigid atmosphere and cold dry air. He didn't even try to walk around because the fog was so thick, he could barely see his feet. However, Kakashi felt a force pushing him in his back.

Embrace my cold, Kakashi.

Kakashi hadn't any at all fazed one bit, but one thing; he knew that had to be Dracos. Takashi had also an experience like this before. When the force had eased out of his back, he ended up at a white door. It was locked; however, the door was falling off the hinges, leaving a space to peek through. Walking closer to it, Kakashi held the knob but he realized that there was a seal on the knob. Looking at it intently, he noticed that part of the seal is gone.

"So Dracos is sealed behind a door." He said aloud.

"Very right you are, Kakashi." Suddenly, strands of ice came from the door and grabbed Kakashi's hands. Then, it began pulling him inwards. But when Kakashi was about to use the chidori, his entire body was already covered with ice. It numbed him completely, but then, the ground gave way. The cocoon of ice melted away, but he was sinking in a frozen lake. Kakashi wanted to swim to the surface but couldn't. His lungs felt as though they were on fire, as he really needed air. He kept trying to move upwards but it was still futile. The more he swam, the more he sank.

Embrace my cold.

Kakashi began panicking. He flattered all over the place, in desperate search for air. As he sank in the dark waters, a face appeared. He had beautiful ultramarine eyes, and hair as white as snow. His lips were a lovely shade of pink, and his face was shaped like his.

"Embrace my cold, Kakashi." The face said. Dracos. Kakashi wanted to stab him to death but he was drowning. But suddenly, the water began boiling up. The heat was scorching his skin, and he tried frantically to get to the surface.

"Hot! Hot!" Kakashi said forgetting that he was in water. Water rushed mercilessly into his lungs, he twisted around and flung his arms and legs all over the place. "Help...me..." he said as he slowly slipped into unconsciousness.

The nurses laid Kakashi on the bed, and then left to fetch a doctor. The other jounins were outside waiting, for good news at least. Seeing the doctors and nurses rushing in and out of the room, made them worry. After some minutes, a doctor came to inform them.

"He isn't dying?" Asuma asked before the doctor could open his mouth.

"No he's not. The only problem we've found was that his temperature was far below normal. Like he was freezing, and this caused his limbs to become stiff. But as I said before, nothing to worry about, we're currently thawing him out." The jounins sighed a relief, but that was when everything worsened. A loud shout came from Kakashi's room. Doctors and nurses rushed in along with the jounins and what they saw was unbelievable. Kakashi lay in his bed, twisting and turning, he was a sickly pale colour, as white as his sheets. His hair had turned white also, sparkling to be exact. But as they approached him, they noticed that there seemed to be burn marks on his skin. Feeling his temperature, one of the nurses had quickly turned down the room temperature. Kakashi was basically on fire. When all that was done Kakashi had seemed to have calmed down but, starting from the bed, they could see ice growing and at an alarming rate. It spread so quickly, it reached the windows and ceiling in a couple of seconds. The doctor instructed another nurse to turn up the room temperature, this time to a higher degree than before. Gai ran to Kakashi and shook him trying to wake him up, but the effort was futile. Kakashi hadn't budged. Gai looked at his friend with worry as feeling Kakashi was like holding a human size block of ice. He was freezing and stiff, Gai's hands were numb from just touching him.

"I don't understand what's happening." The doctor said. "Tao, use your chakra now." The tall nurse nodded as he made his way to Kakashi. Laying his hands upon him, a green light shone but soon after, Tao was frozen in seconds. Gasps exploded in the room and the other nurses decided to take Tao outside of the room. Everyone stepped backwards, and slowly they exited from the room. Everyone except Gai. He stood and stared at Kakashi's immobile frame, and when he was close enough, his eyes opened. A gasp escaped Gai's lips as he noticed that Kakashi's eyes were a beautiful ultramarine but the thing was, The stare was able to paralyze Gai for a moment and Kakashi wasn't even looking at him. His eyes slowly closed and then he became still, he wasn't even breathing.

"Help me." Was what he heard Kakashi say. After that, frost began emanating from Kakashi's body. Then that same frost pushed Gai with such force, he was flung into the hallway. When he got onto his footing, the ice grew around the door and shut it, blocking any entrance or exit. Gai banged on the door, but nothing. His hands became blistered from the ice, and all he could do was cry. He wanted to save his friend but the door was basically impassable with chakra powered ice.

Unless...

Opening one of the gates, Gai then busts through the ice.

The heat became unbearable, Kakashi eyes opened and he found himself in the hospital room. He was soaked with water as the ice was now melting, but Kakashi felt as though he was in a furnace. Climbing out of bed quickly, Kakashi headed for the window. He tried to open it but, it was sealed shut. With a reputation as his, they wouldn't want him to escape. His skin was burning, so much that he couldn't stand or walk or feel anything. Except the heat. He was getting insane. Shouting, he began to scrape at the walls, as he wasn't thinking at all. All he wanted was to escape out of the room. Turning, he decided to move to the door. However, he never made it. He collapsed on the floor, limbs unable to move. Then luckily, Gai entered the room. The door was flung off the hinges, flying over Kakashi's head.

"Kakashi!" Gai knelt down at his friend's side and took him up.

"It's so...hot..." Kakashi managed to say, his throat parched. Gai exited from the room, in a few seconds and laid him down in the hall.

"Kakashi, Kakashi," Gai called, but received no answer. Further down the hall, Genma seeing all this, rushed to get a doctor. While doing that he ran into Asuma, and the girls who were talking with the doctor that was present before.

"Doctor, Kakashi needs you!" he said. "Asuma, could you come with me to get Lord Hokage? Anko, Kurenai, go assist Gai." They all went their separate destinations after that, the girls ended up counselling a crying Gai.

Just then, when Gai began to calm down, a shout rang out from down the hall. They saw a doctor stepped out into the hall from that room, shaking and shouting to the other nurses rushing to him.

"What's going on?" Kurenai asked.

"A patient is freezing and his chakra is all over the place." One nurse said and rushed off.

"Which patient?" Anko asked another nurse that was coming that way.

"Takashi Hatake."
