In the streets of Tokyo the NPA was scrambling everyone it could to try and evacuate wounded and dying officers from the kill box. A small group of police officers was attempting to provide covering fire but their side arms were insufficient to deal with the automatic rifles, machine guns and RPGs that the terrorists had brought with them. Officers who attempted to use their police cruisers and nearby civilian cars as cover soon discovered that the machine gun bullets and rifle rounds were more than enough to zip right through and hit them on the other side. NPA officers began trying to hide inside of small shops and alleyways where they were harder to spot and less likely to be shot at by the attackers. The staccato of automatic fire assaulted the ears of anyone who was stuck in the kill zone and everyone unlucky enough to be trapped there knew death could come at any time.
The NPA tactical teams had yet to arrive and the chaotic scene was becoming more and more desperate as the number of wounded police officers began to increase. Soon police cruisers were being torn to pieces by RPG fire and deafening explosions shook the cityscape with a gut wrenching violence. A few brave souls among the NPA managed to pull the nearest wounded to a safer location where trauma care was being provided. But it wasn't enough to turn the tide of what was going on in front of the Maidens for Hire corporate office. The terrorists still had the streets locked down and the police didn't seem to stand a chance of getting inside the building.
Commanders on the ground were busy listening to some frantic plans that the Maidens for Hire office was trying to tell them. From what they had been told they were about to attempt to begin evacuating the building via helicopter. Everyone who heard that knew it would be a colossal mistake to attempt that while the terrorists had RPGs in the area. Despite the fact that RPGs were not the most accurate nor the most effective anti tank weapon available those weaknesses were unlikely to stop them from hitting the slow moving civilian helicopters that would be hovering above the roof of the corporate office. The sheer number of RPG teams outside the building made the odds of a successful liftoff dangerously low. Yet no matter what the police tried to say to convince them the Maidens for Hire staff insisted on going through with it anyways. No one who sat in the command tent was surprised when they heard that one of the birds had been hit, now all that they could do was try and holdout until the JSDF troops and Americans arrived to take over the security mission. Though the situation didn't give them any leeway before their backup arrived.
Dur and Ouyang knocked open the door with the rest of their team following close behind. Everyone had their weapons drawn, on the lookout for the CIA operatives that were hiding somewhere in this maintenance shaft. The team moved slowly towards the parking garage. Dur noticed that the bloody footprints were starting to become faint as they neared a door that entered into the parking garage. The team stopped for a moment to decide on what to do next.
"You know what these SOBs are doing right?" Ouyang asked Dur. "They're trying to get around us so that they can hit us with a surprise. Those helicopters on the roof need to be taken out as soon as possible. I'll tell the leader about it now," the former PLA solider told him.
"I don't doubt that the CIA got in here through those helicopters," Dur replied, "but I'm certain that they're also using those helicopters to evacuate employees. I mean we're not here to kill people. We're here to destroy this equipment and show everyone that machines aren't going to control our destiny."
"Letting those helicopters do as they please will only undermine any efforts we put out," Ouyang told Dur. "We do not have the time to sit and play nicely with a team of CIA commandos lining up their sights to blow our brains out of our heads! The commander will agree that those helicopters are a threat and that threats need to be eliminated. Dur, you should know that when you're fighting a war you don't have time for these kinds of silly niceties. Doing that will only allow the enemy to strike you down since they exploited your sense of honor." The man shook his head from side to side. "You remember when we were fighting those terrorists in the Philippines, right?"
"Yes," Abdurrahman said in response. "How the hell could I forget when we fought those butchers?"
"And they threw children strapped with bombs at us!" Ouyang snapped. "They knew we wouldn't just shoot and kill them so they used those children to try and buy them some time. We're not playing some little game where you can call a timeout when you think someone is cheating. No referee is just going to fall out of the sky and tell our enemy to play fairly! We have to be willing to bring the fight to them any time they show up. That's the only way we can even hope to stand a chance against these bastards!" Ouyang then got onto the radio and spent a few moments talking to the commander before he spoke again. "It's done, once the RPG teams He looked up at Dur before saying, "The commander wants you to be at the front of the building to help our fighters keep the police from getting any closer. Kill all of the enemies when they get close, make sure no one reaches the building."
"This wasn't the original plan," Dur said, his anger starting to rise. "We weren't here to just start indiscriminately killing people, we came here to do a specific job and then leave with as few casualties as possible."
"Unfortunately things have changed," Ouyang replied, "we do not have the luxury of just standing by while the Japanese security forces try and retake control. On top of that we haven't set up everything to complete the job we were trying to get done in the first place. Now that there are CIA operatives inside of this building we need to be more aggressive if we want to get out of this alive, understood?" Ouyang noticed the uneasy look on Abdurrahman's face. He let out a long sigh before saying, "I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but it's the reality of what we're facing. We just need you to coordinate the troops outside long enough for us to get the party started in here, alright?"
"Fine," Abdurrahman replied, "but I don't like it."
"Make sure you don't mess up on this Dur," Ouyang told his friend. "Anything that makes it easier for us to get this business done with faster needs to be done." With that Abdurrahman and two other fighters broke away from Ouyang and the rest of the group. As the three of them headed through the door that led back into the parking complex they were on high alert, just in case one of the CIA's soldiers was nearby.
They soon passed by the main group of friendly fighters and then headed to the western side of the parking garage in order to group up with the infantry that were maintaining a perimeter around the building. Abdurrahman took a moment to think about what this mission had started to change into. It was supposed to be the most important part of their plan to eliminate dangerous robots from the world but now it was turning into a slaughter of fellow human beings. Dur didn't know why their commander had decided to follow this strange course of action but he didn't doubt the danger they were in if the Japanese security forces were allowed to get any closer. If the police SWAT teams and the CIA were working in unison then the situation would be very dire and their mission to destroy Maidens for Hire could be a complete failure.
As the three fighters climbed the stairs that led up to the street, the sound of gunfire could be heard. Dur sprinted up the flight of stairs and slammed against the exit door to open it up. He heard the other two fighters following behind him as he raced towards where one of their PKMs was firing on a group of police cruisers.
"What's going on?" Dur yelled at the assistant gunner, once he reached the firing position.
"Orders to kill any security on sight," the man told him. "We heard that there was an internal breach by some kind of special forces team and so we were tasked with keeping everyone away from the entrance." As he finished talking the woman on the machinegun stopped shooting. "Hey why'd you let up?"
"A group is going to secure that helicopter's crash site and we needed to give them a safe zone to move through. If we kept shooting we'd turn them into ribbons," she told her assistant gunner. "Besides those cops are crawling away leaving a trail of blood behind them. There's no chance that they'll be able to pose any kind of threat against us at this point in time."
Dur and his other two companions moved on towards the crash site to back up the four other fighters who were already headed in that direction. Each of the men who were already nearing the building that the helicopter had crashed into were people that no one else inside of their group really felt that they knew very well. There was just some kind of air about them that spoke of mystery and intrigue. Yet no one could deny that they were very skilled as fighters. During all of the encounters between the Anti Robotics and violent terror groups these four men had always distinguished themselves as an unrivaled group of killers. The three men felt a mild tension build up as they started to catch up to the four towards the end of the alley.
As the three stopped a few meters from these dangerous men they noticed that the group threw some odd bundles into the top of the damaged building. Moments later the structure collapsed on top of itself, completely burying the crash site in a wave of concrete dust and fallen debris. Dur then violently yelled out at them, "what the hell did you do that for? There could have been innocent people in there and you just killed all of them!"
"A worm like you should shut his mouth," one of the men replied. "There's very little that you could say in order to grab my attention, or hold onto my interest."
"What?" Dur asked the man. "Since when have you guys been this arrogant? Before you were always talking about the importance of having each other's backs and making sure that everyone got out in one—"
"Silence," the man snapped, his voice cold and steely, "We've heard enough from you." The four men then raised their weapons and pumped rounds into Dur and the two men who had stood by his side.
Inexplicable pain raced through the three of them as they gripped at the bloody fabric on their stomachs and lay writhing on the ground in agony. Despite the torment Dur still had the presence of mind to reach for his rifle that had fallen onto the ground in front of him. But just before his hand was about to grab the pistol grip, one of the men kicked his rifle away. Dur heard it make a sad clattering noise as his final lifeline was now terminated.
"You were nothing but a bunch of terrorists," the man told Dur as he bled on the ground. "Did you ever think you would be able to do as much as you did without our support? We're elite forces of China, the Ministry of State Security's special purpose agents. Once enough of us managed to infiltrate this organization we could direct you however we wished. Why else did you think that you attacked a Japanese robotics company? The Ministry has plans for dealing with problems that can't be solved with the PLA or conventional military actions. But don't worry about living with deep seated feelings of betrayal," the man told Dur. "Because it'll all be over soon."
Dur then saw the man point the muzzle of an AK 103 at him, this was it. This was the end.
