OK, time for the new one shot introducing a new ally for the JLA and the mentor for the next Red Tornado, Ma Hunkel. Enjoy everyone. And as you know, I do not own any of the DC Characters. They belong to their creators. I only own my own OCs.

Ma Hunkel in: A New Path

(New York City, New York., Schultz's Grocery. March 28th, 10:32)

"Look Amelia, I told you a hundred times already. I will visit you and Mortimer when I am done here at the store." Said a woman in a tall building in New York city. The building in question was a grocery store with various aisles and a small counter as an area to check out, where the deli counter is. All over the store were people, mostly teenagers, working at the meat processor and keeping stock.

At the counter, on the phone, was a plump elderly woman with neck-length curly white hair, dark blue eyes under a pair of glasses, wearing a yellow dress with a dark orange apron with what appeared to be a red triangle on the front of the apron and black shoes. "OK mom, see you soon." The woman on the other end of the phone said. "Also Maxine should be coming over later today."

"OK, tell her to fly up to the apartment on the top floor of the building. OK, love you hon." Said the woman with a smile as she hung up after the other end hung up as well as she gave a sigh, heading to the door and checking it out as she says, "hey! Ya bums better keep everythin' in check. I gotta take care of some things." Her tone was serious and threatening, a fly by to how she talked earlier.

"Yes Mrs. Hunkel!" the employees said nervously as Miss Hunkel went to the back room that said 'private' in it, which lead to a stairwell. She walked up the steps, giving a sigh as she went to the next floor up, revealing it to be a simple apartment with Fire escape access with a room separate for a bed room and a bathroom, with a living room/kitchen hybrid in the main room.

She smiled as she sat down in a simple chair as she got to the papers on the table that has bills, papers to sign, etc. She yawned a bit as she got on her reading glasses and began to write down some things before…

CRASH!

She jumped a bit as she heard that sound, looking up curiously as she heard the crash on the roof. She frowned as she got to a closet and got out a shotgun and looked around cautiously, heading up as she kept an eye out.

She then heard a groan as she got to the roof and went wide eyed at what she saw; a slightly busted up Tornado Champion, who was groaning a bit as his body sparked a bit. "Nana Hunkel!" A female voice said as she looked up to see a freckled, red haired girl fly down wearing a green jumpsuit with a dark yellow tornado on the front of her shirt. "Thank goodness you're here."

"Maxine? What's going on? Who's this?" Hunkel asked in confusion as the girl, Maxine, looked up with concern.

"This is the Tornado Champion…at least that's what he said. He flew by when I got attacked by some nut calling himself 'Shaggy Man' or something like that…" Maxine groaned aloud as she says, "I had to retreat after the thing went into the sewers though, and I found this guy flying by. I tried to carry him, but…yeah"

Hunkel sighed as she says, "Alright…can ya walk, robot?" Tornado staggered up, rubbing his head as he gave a nod. "Good. Come on, lets go back inside before that shaggy things comes out."

"I apologize madam, but I cannot." Tornado said, looking to the side, voice softer than his original tone, which was much more robotic. "If you know who I am…then you must know my history, correct?"

"That you're some robot soldier from the Second World War that fought with the Spy Smasher and the other heroes from back than? Yeah, I know. My older brother was in the war and he told me when I was growing up that you weren't exactly Mr. 'Gonna-destory-mankind' robot. Or did you forget?" Hunkel asked as Tornado looked confused as he followed her.

"What do you mean?" Tornado asked in confusion as Hunkel rolled her eyes once more.

"Man, you must've been fried when you went missing, robot. OK…my brother was on patrol and he saw you when that Morrow guy was testing you out with those psycho siblings of yours. While they were listening, you were always distracted." Hunkel said with a sigh. "After you disappeared, someone beat that nutcase Kaptain Nazi and well…here you are, many years later."

"Hmm…" Tornado looked to the side, as if in thought about this entire thing. "Wait…how do you know so much about me?" He went into the apartment as Ma pointed to a pile of newspapers.

"Look at the papers here for yourself." Hunkel said as she set down a large notebook full of paper extracts. "I tend to collect parts involving super heroes in the papers. I made that when my kids were growing up."

"…Really now?" Tornado asked in curiosity as he opened it to the first page and read articles like 'Man in Green Ring Busts Train Scheme', 'Magical Hero Takes Down Faux Hypnotist', 'Young Heroes on the Block in Gotham', 'Justice Society Is Born'.

"Check these out. These are about Nana." Said Maxine as she points to some articles around a person called 'Red Tornado'.

"They are?" asked Tornado as he saw that, indeed, many of the articles were about a local hero in New York City with a front-page picture with a person clad in a homemade costume: A yellow coat with a red triangle shaped like a 'T' on the front, a dark green cape, violet gloves and a metallic helmet with eyeholes in the front.

"Heh, yeah. That Spy Smasher stuff my brother told me about inspired me and I wanted to do some good. I was a fairly strong gal back then, so I could tussle with anyone who went against me. Though I mainly stuck to low-level crime. I am a little older than most of the Society after all. I'm hitting my 80s soon enough."

"You are?" asked Tornado as Ma Hunkel gave him a flat look as she adjusted her glasses at this.

"You gonna keep asking those questions, son? Because it's starting to get old, and that's saying a lot coming from me." Hunkel said as Champion looked at the papers and looked at himself. He took a sigh at this.

"…I wish I was like you humans in all honesty. I was built for war…to be a weapon against these people. But from what I had learned while with the League that many heroes are made…but what good is there of me?"

"Well, you did help the League with that nut job robot a few days ago. From what the papers say, you were a big help." Maxine said as Tornado only looked down with a sigh.

"Only after I got out. The past few days has damaged my voice regulator, thus why I sound the way I do." He said, rubbing his throat at this. "But…what kind of use is there of me now? I'm just a relic at this point…"

"I kinda take offense to that." Hunkel said flatly as she sat down, adjusting her glasses again. "Look Tinman, you were found for a reason. And while I know you were made to fight America, but why not help it?"

"How? There is no war that I can be of use in. And if I do go to the Military, they are more likely to rip me apart and use me to find out how I was created." Tornado sighed as he says, "What use is there of a War machine without a war? It's just another machine…"

His tone showed bitterness towards himself, which was odd for a AI like him. 'He's even more advanced than I thought…' Hunkel said as she tapped her chin as Maxine sighed as she turned on a radio for some music, but heard something else entirely.

"This is Jonathan Mann with a Special news bulliten! The monster, known by a nickname called 'Shaggy Man', is back on the surface. An hour ago, a strange red being helped Cyclone move it into the sewers. But now he's back for round two!"

Maxine looked wide eyed at this as she looked at Tornado and Hunkel, as the old woman looked at Tornado and says, "Looks like you just got drafted, son. You said there's no war? There is one going on everyday: The war on evil. And that thing is really up there."

"But with how hel ooks now, I don't think he can be of much of a 'hero' look…hmm…I got it!" Said Maxine as she suddenly spun like a green twister as some papers went up but none of the furniture moved as Hunkel sighed.

"Good thing I got these nailed down…" she said with an annoyed tone as some objects were flown from closests and a yellow and red spray paint cans flew into the iar as Tornado got up, getting caught in the green twister as Cyclone left him, smirking as she gave a 'ta-da' pose in front of him, Hunkel looking with shock.

Standing bfore them was Tornado with a fresh coat of paint; his red body now brighter red than before with yellow lines going down his arms and legs on the front and back, the lines leading to a circle housing a stylized 'T' (in the shape of a small twister and a cloud making the 'T'), his arrow head facing downward over his face. But he was now wearing dark yellow gloves and boots with a yellow line going around his waiste like a belt, making an illusion of clothes on his body and a dark blue cape drapped over his sholders.

"Hmm…good job, Maxine." Said Hunkel with a nod as she says, "Hmm…idea. How about you help her with this shaggy thing and I can coach ya from near by. You got a wireless do-dad in your head, right?"

"Yes, why?" asked Tornado as Hunkel gave a smirk as she motions them along.

"Come on, you two fly, I'll drive." She said as the two wind-themed heroes looked at each other with confusion.

(Later…)

(Midtown New York City. March 28th, 13:03)

Many people were running away screaming as a monsterous ape came down, roaring out. The creature looked like a humanoid beast with tusks coming out of his mouth, covered head to toe with shaggy dark brown fur and wild-looking green eyes, giving out roars as he beat his chest with his hands.

A red car pulled up behind an alley that was near the carnage as Ma Hunkel got her cell phone out as she pressed some buttons and says, "Hey Tinman, you there?"

"Yes. Do you wish for me to come down now?" Tornado asked as Hunkel gave a small chuckle.

"Yep, get down here son. Bring Maxine with you. The people trust her, so that will help." Ma said as The monster trashed a car as a throat clear is heard.

"Hey fuzzball!/Halt Criminal!" two voices said at once as the creature saw two colored twisters come down; Cyclone formed out of the green and Tornado came out of the red, glaring.

"Cyclone.." Shaggy Man growled in anger as he looks at the red robot. "And Red Man…"

"I am actually Tornado-What?" Tornado stopped mid-sentence when he heard a 'shush' from his ear, as Maxine gave him a head shake.

"Don't call yourself that you moron! Try my old name out." Hunkel said in the car as she saw Tornado nod as she says, "And try a more heroic pose; shoulders back, fists on hips."

Tornado nods as he did just that as he says, "Apologies…I am actually the Red Tornado."

"Wait, that's the new Red Tornado?" asked a civilian who was hiding behind a car.

"I guess so. The old guy must be really old now, I think it only makes sense that they get a new one." Said another with a shrug.

"But why a robot?" a woman asked as Tornado gave a flat look at this.

"And everyone here should know me; Cyclone, the Whirlwind of justice!" said Cyclone as Tornado gave her an odd look. '…the news papers call me that." He gave a nod at that, understanding now.

"Then let us procure this furry abomination before he harms anyone." Said Tornado as he got into a stance, with Cyclone following suit. The furry monster roared out at this as he ran forward as Hunkel watched.

"OK Tinman, you got super strength, right? Maxine is very fast, so let her do the fast hits. You do the heavy hitting." Ma said as the robot nods as he saw Cyclone speed towards Shaggyman and fired a green burst of wind at him, making him yell out in anger.

Tornado looked around, and saw a car near by. His eyes flashed as he saw no one was inside as he flew over and picked it up before tossing it towards Shaggy Man, who roared out at that as he roared at Tornado, who activated his wind manipulator as he sent out a blast of funneled wind at him, making him roar out.

RT glared as he powered up another blast as he fired it out, making Shaggy Man get sent back as he growled, grabbing a chunk of a building and threw it at Torando, who grunts a bit but glared instead of showing any damage. Another part of the ground was thrown, but was blocked by a barrier of wind around him, as he glared as it spun around him.

"My turn!" He said as the piece of concrete flew back at Shaggy Man, making it hit him in the face. The furry monster roared as Tornado says, "It is no good. He is still standing. Why will he not go down?"

Hunkel rolled her eyes as she says, "That furry brute is likely built like Superman; it'll take a lot to take him down."

"…But it can still breath…that's it!" Tornado said as he flew up. "Cyclone, control the vortex! Make sure it doesn't do any damage!"

"What vortex?" asked Cyclone as she saw Red Tornado take to the air as he concentrated as he suddenly vanished as he spun, as a dark red vortex began to form. "oh, that one…" She mutters as she concentrates her power as a green wind began to form with it, keeping it contained as the vortex went over Shaggy Man, who roared out.

"What's it doing?" a cop asked as he saw this wind form as another looked at this as the monster roared as he coughed, gripping his throat from inside of the vortex before Red Tornado suddenly appeared with a spinning fist before punching him in the face, sending him flying and chipping his bottom right fang, as he fell with a grunt.

"What did you do?" asked Cyclone as the wind stopped as Tornado looked at the outcold monster with a frown.

"I used the vortex to suck away some of the oxygen around him and dispel it around the area. Without the Oxygen, he lost much of his stamina and it took a single blow to finish him. He is alive, do not worry." Tornado said as he looked at the creature before turning to the officers. 'Give this creature to the proper forces. We must be off now." He and Cyclone then took off.

Hunkel then drove off as Hunkel said, "Not bad, rookie. You got some work cut out for ya, but I think we can smooth out the rough patches."

"Thank you, ma'am. But how am I to be under your tutelage without anyone suspecting you of being a previous hero?" asked Tornado as Hunkel chuckled.

"Oh, I got an idea…" Hunkel said with a smirk.

(A day later…)

(Schultz's Grocery. March 29th, 08:59)

"OK, where is the new guy?" Ma asked in annoyance as Maxine, dressed in a civilian outfit consisting of a black jacket over a 'Wicked' t-shirt and a pair of jeans shrugged as she listened to some music. "He's supposed to be on at 9 on the dot!"

"I am sorry ma'am, I slept in and got here with time to spare." A calm voice said as the employees all turned and stared in shock at who they saw. It was a man dressed in a simple blue jacket and a pair of jeans, the jacket over a Schultz's Grocery uniform shirt with a name tag that read 'John Schmidt' on the front and wearing a pair of dark blue gloves. But the oddes thing was his face; it was covered from neck to the top of his head with a white gauze.

"About time you came here, Schmidt." Hunkel said with a nod as she says, "Those boxes won't stock themselves! Get too it!"

"Yes Ma'am." 'John' said as Ma gave him a faint wink, which he nods in return as he put his jacket on a hook as he saw a blonde haired woman checking on produce as she gave him a wave, her blue eyes soft and kind, which made John tilt his head curiously.

"Hi, I'm Kathy Sutton, I'm in charge of produce. You're the new stock guy, right?" she asked as she put a hand out as John nods.

"Yes, I am John Schmidt. And before you ask, yes, I am from Germany. Well, my parents were anyway. I was just raised around Americans." John explained as she gave a nod, Maxine giving a smirk. "I just moved to New York and needed a job. I met Miss Hunkel at the Subway."

"Ah, that makes sense. She usually takes that. I'll show you around." Kathy said as she motions John along, as he followed, as she asks, 'and the bandages are…?"

"a touchy subject. I have…issues with how I look." John said as Kathy gave a nod as Maxine chuckled at this.

"I think Red's made a friend." Maxine said as Hunkel just chuckled as hse got out her phone as she waits for a moment and nods.

"Hey Ted, it's me, Abigail. I found your wandering robot and I'm helping him get back on his feet." Said Ma as a chuckle is heard.

"Yeah, I saw the news. You're letting that robot use your name, huh? So What should I tell them black coats who are gonna want him back?" Ted asked on the other end as she shrugs.

"I don't know. Just say that an old friend found him and is taking care of him. Besides, you owe me for helping you with that nonsense with that…who was he again? That…hornet guy."

"Yellow Wasp? Heh, haven't heard about him in years. Yeah, OK. Fair enough. I'll just tell Bats, he'll cover this whole thing." Said Ted with a chuckle as Abigal chuckled as well. "Tell your kids I said 'hi', kay Abby?"

"Tell Dinah the same for me, Ted. See ya." Ma said with a chuckle as she hung up and sighed a bit. Maxine looked at her grandmother in confusion at this.

"what's up, Nana?" asked Maxine as Hunkel just chuckled a bit in amusement.

'you know, I thought I was done with all this. But I guess even I am still needed, even these days. You stay here, I gotta make sure these bums are working." Maxine just nods with a chuckle as she sighed a bit, as she got out an old photograph from her wallet that she kept with her in secret; it showed Ma in her Red Tornado costume hanging out with two kids dressed in costumes similar to her's but with dark green masks covering their faces, giving poses to the camera as the original Red Tornado just crossed her arms.
