Street Racer

"So, when did Pitch learn this new trick?" Jack asked, casually flying backwards with his arms crossed. He had a cheerful grin on his face and his white locks whipped about in the wind. "*Pant* I don't *huff* know and I don't *gasp for air* don't blinkin' care!" Bunny said, fighting for breath. The Guardian of Hope was running alongside North, while Tooth flapped her tired wings as fast as she could and Sandy bounced just ahead of them. Behind the fleeing group, a small horde (small as in over a dozen) of possessed spirits chased after the, Their eyes were black and gray swirls covered their skin; they were obviously being controlled by the Nightmare King himself. "Jack! Can't you do something?" North asked, shooting a glare at the easy-going winter spirit. "Maybe, but I wouldn't have to if someone hadn't crashed the sleigh." Jack grinned lazily, flicking his eyes to the Guardian of Wonder pointedly. "Jack..." North growled. Said immortal teenager rolled his eyes. "It's not like I can actually do much. They're innocent spirits who've been possessed. While most of them are jerks, it's not like I can freeze and shatter them."

"Then do something else!" Bunny almost shrieked. Grumbling (and smirking at the rabbit's embarrassing voice crack), Jack waved his staff and a wall of ice shot up in front of the possessed spirits. It held for a moment, then steam began to curl up from behind it. "The summer spirits will melt that in about two minutes, so that should do for now." "So now what?" Tooth asked, and Jack shrugged. The sight of Sandy bouncing furiously caught his attention. "What's up, Sandy?" The golden man waved his hand towards a few cars parked on the side of the road.

Jack's eyes lit up. He didn't know what Sandy's plan was, but he had his own idea. "Over here!" He touched down and ran over to the nearest car. The Guardian's followed hesitantly. Squatting, Jack eyed the door and the car model. Lucky for him, this particular manufacturer was cheap about door locks, and he'd dealt with this before (he was over three centuries old.) Reaching out, he sent a wave of frost to creep across the locks. After a second it unlocked, and he swung open the door. Unlocking the rest of the doors, he climbed into the driver's seat and waved to his friends. "Come on," his words were muffled as he bent down under the dash board. Producing a small pick, he lodged it in a crack around the paneling and pried it open.

Behind him he heard shuffling as his friends settled in, and a flash of gold scrambled in the corner of his eyes as Sandy took shot gun. "What are you doing, Jack?" North sounded very confused (and a little worried, because his unofficial 'son' seemed to very in tune with his teenage delinquent side).

"What does it look like?" Stripping the insulation from a few wires, he sent the Russian a smirk. When silence met his question he sighed and brought the two exposed wires together. "I'm hot-wiring the car," he said simply, and the engine roared to life.

Sitting back, he grabbed his seat belt and buckled up. Seeing Jack's devious grin, his friends hurried to follow suit, and just in time too. As soon as he heard the four other clicks signalling the seat belts being secured, the teenage spirit let out a low laugh and hit the gas pedal. The car revved and peeled out its parking spot, and Jack deftly spun the wheel, weaving around the other cars around them. Glancing in the rear view mirror he saw his ice wall collapse and the wave of possessed spirits chase after them. Several of them were quickly left behind, but the shape-shifting or physically advanced ones kept pace, almost gaining.

In the backseat, a few of the Guardians were experiencing their first car ride, and they weren't quite sure what to think of it. Tooth was looking around nervously, not very comfortable with the drone of the engine or the cramped backseat. Bunny was clutching his seat belt, but wasn't on the verge of panic like in the sleigh. At least the car was on the ground, but watching the scenery fly by at alarming speeds on a narrow and poorly lit street wasn't doing wonders for his nerves. The fact that Jack of all people was driving didn't help for either of them.

North and Sandy were faring a bit better. North, being the genius inventor he was, had obviously been in a car before (heck, he'd made a few just for kicks) but the devious grin on Jack's face and the life-threatening speed they were going at and the dodging around sharp corners to shake their pursuers made him gulp. Sandy, however, was having the time of his life, with his hands clutching the dash board lightly and a big smile stretching his face, and the several close calls they had with the wolves, lions, griffons and other creatures chasing them just made him squeal.

And Jack - well, his crazy laughter and the beyond-necessary speed said it all.

Whipping around a corner particularly tightly, Jack hit the gas once more - and just about swore his face off. Coming right at them was a frigging dragon. It was probably some Chinese spirit or something, by the species of this specific reptile, but the creature was about to spit fire and would crush them with its enormous claws even if it didn't. Spinning the wheel, he skidded and swerved onto the sidewalk to fly past the dragon. Hitting the brakes, he performed a neatly 45 degree skidding turn and roared down a convenient alleyway. Not noticing his friends' open-mouthed stares of awe and shock, he yelled to Sandy, who was the only passenger not speechless, (well, not really - but you know what I mean) "Sandy, can't you do something? These spirits are possessed with nightmares sand; you should be able to cleanse it!"

Sandy nodded sagely and punched his fist as if the idea was the most novel he'd heard. Unbuckling and ignoring Tooth's sputtered "Sanderson ManSnoozie put your seat belt on right now!" he climbed over so that he was in North's lap. Conjuring a laser cuter made of sand, he pointed it at the ceiling and cut out a neat circle. Punching out the circle, he created a platform that he could stand on and stuck his top half out of the car roof.

"What are you planning, Sandy?" Jack asked. The sandman's answer was to wave his hands and summon a golden flamethrower/AK-47, loaded with gold sand. "Awesome~" Jack crowed, and returned the thumbs up Sandy gave him. "I'll drive and you cure the possessed jerks with those bullets of yours." Jerking hard on the wheel, he managed to maneuver out of the alley and back onto a wider road. The spirits followed after them, with the dragon lumbering behind them snarling. This time Jack didn't avoid the crowd - he drove right for it, trusting Sandy to shoot the possessed ones as he created ice walls to shove them out their way.

"Th-this is cr-crazy!" Tooth yelled as the rat-tat-tat-tat of the hybrid sand gun shook the car. Bunny and North didn't say anything, preferring to grip their seats until the adventure was over, but their agreement didn't need to be vocalized.

"This is awesooome!" Jack's shout made them all cringe, and Sandy would probably be laughing along side him if he could. In moments they were right in front of the dragon, and Sandy let loose a barrage of black-sand-banishing bullets into the reptile's maw as it went to spray them with fire. It reared back, shaking its head and allowing the car to pass safely under its belly. It stumbled for a moment, the gray tainting its beautiful gold and blue scales fading, then collapsed and reverted into a small, less threatening version of itself. All around them the other spirits were following suit; Pitch's power wearing off and succumbing to Sandy's restful sleep. Soon the street around them was filled with the gold-sand dreams of the motionless spirits, and Jack let out a chortle as he stepped from the car.

"Ah, that was fun. I haven't been able to do that in a while!" After stretching he went and hi-fived Sandy, who was grinning like the crazy car chase they'd just had was the most amusement he'd had in ages.

Bunny watched them worriedly, absentmindedly steadying Tooth as a queasily leaned against the car. "You know," he murmured to North, who was staring at the damaged car then at Jack like he'd never seen them before, "I'm really sure some of Jack's descendants must have become street racers."

AN - This was soooo much fun to write! I actully had half of it done in class, and finished it off here because I bored, lol. I can see Jack as a street racer - he is an adrenaline junkie after all XD AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON SANDY'S GOLDEN MACHINE GUN! I had the random image of him sitting on the roof of the car with a machine gun blazing and North, Bunny and Tooth fainting the back, and I just had to make it happen.

Anyway, like I said earlier, I was stuck between posting this or an AU that I finished writing yesterday, but I decided with this. I'll put the AU up next (yay, I'm so excited!)
