Hey Baby by No Doubt

Don't own anything expect my character!

"I rather not." I stated blankly, taking a bite of my bagel and glancing back at the newspaper on the kitchen table. Pepper sighed and closed her eyes, placing the coffee pot back in its place. Taking a sip from her cup, she turned back to me.

"It would be a good experience for you. Being back home, and showing support for your brother could make the event a success. Plus, you've never been to one, and I'll be there the whole time! All you have to do is show up, look pretty and maybe mingle with a few people." She said as she moved to sit across from me. I snorted and picked up my right foot, tucking it underneath me.

"That is a good reason why I don't go to these events. Its really not my scene. You know that. Why isn't Tony going?" I asked as I flipped through the newspaper, not looking up at Pepper. She taped her fingers on the table, and I glanced up at her.

"Obadiah doesn't think its best for him to go, considering everything that has happened. " I rose an eyebrow at her.

"Why? Tony's fine." She gave me a blank look.

"Okay. Well he's just got his mind on other things." I stated, taking another bite of my bagel and turning my attention back towards the newspaper. A article at the bottom caught my attention, and I put my bagel down on the plate. I could hear Pepper sigh and take a sip from her coffee.

"I know you don't agree with Obadiah, but he might have a point here. Last time Tony was in front of a crowd he declared Stark Industry was done making weapons. He had everyone in a panic." I glanced up at her and pushed my lips together. She did have a point.

"Yeah, but I was blown up!" She started at me unamused."Well, I was." I stated sharply and snapped the newspaper.

"Look, I know you have been through a lot as well. You both have. But at the moment, let's be honest, you're the one still holding it together. The Firefighter's Family Fund expects a Stark to be there. I know, you're not used to these, but I'll be with you the whole time." I glanced from the paper to Pepper's pleading face. Rolling my eyes, and giving a loud sigh, I placed the paper on the table.

"I don't have anything to wear."

"I can fix that!"

I walked casually down the stairs to the garage, newspaper tightly in my hand. I type the code in and walked in to hear AC/DC blaring. Tony was bent over he's work desk and didn't even notice my presents behind him. Glancing over to he's computer, I walked towards it, turning the volume down. Tony's head snapped up and glanced behind him.

"When did you come in?" I rolled my eyes, tucking the newspaper under my arm.

"A few seconds ago. What are you working on?" I asked trying to look over he's shoulder, when he stuck he's arms out, blocking my view. I rose a eyebrow at him.

"No. No. No. No. Not for young eyes." I rolled my eyes.

"Come on, Tony. Let me see." I said as I tired to get around him. He took he's hands, placing them in my upper arms and pushes me back. I frowned and shooed him off of me.

"Uh, no. It's a surprise. Don't you have something to do anyway? Go out and get some fresh air." He said hastily as he turned he's back toward me. I made a unattractive face at him and turned to leave.

"Whatever. I actually do anyways, was going to ask you if you need anything but it looks like you're good here." Tony made a 'huff' nosie, and I stop myself from tackling him to the floor.

"Righttt. Well, I'm off." I stated as I took a few steps towards the door. "Oh, and by the way. I thought you might think this was interesting." I said as I dropped the newspaper on to he's computer desk. The article that I had been reading earlier was facing up. Tony glanced up for a second, and glanced towards it.

"I'll be back later!" He waved me off, and walked towards the newspaper. The title caugh he's attention, and a smile broke threw he's face.

"Well then."

"This is awful." Pepper snorted at me as she flicked through some more dresses on the rack.

"Well, you know. If you actually tried on some dresses, this would probably go a little faster." I snorted back as I glanced at a few dresses and took a sip of my iced coffee. I had changed quickly before we left into some loose fitting jeans, that I rolled up and a tight red tank top, with simple black flip flops. Pepper on the other hand, was in her classic dress suit, and looked beautiful as always. They must have thought I was her bum of a friend. I laughed at myself at the thought.

"What about this one?" I glanced over at her, and looked at the dress in her hands. I walked closer and saw that it was a beautiful navy blue. It was long, with a v neck line, and a very low back.

"It's beautiful." A smile broke out on her face. I glanced at the size.

"But it's not my size." Her smile fell and she grabbed at the dress tag, frowning.

"For the love.. Wait! Let me ask if they have your size!" She turned sharply, glancing at a younger girl walking passed with a bundle of dresses to put back. But as Pepper reached out to speak to her, the girl answered.

"Don't bother. That's the last dress in that style." she stated, not even glancing at us. Pepper's shoulder slumped, and she glanced at the dress in her hands.

"It's fine, Pep. But you know who's size that is?" She glanced at me with sad blue eyes. "It's yours."

"Oh no, I already have a dress for the..." I cut her off pushing her towards the dressing room.

"Just try it on, it can be a gift from, Tony."

"But we're suppose too..." I pushed her into one of the changing rooms and waved a hand at her. "I'll look, I'll look." She narrowed her eyes at me, but closed the dressing rooms door as she saw me walk toward the racks.

"Right, dresses. Dresses. Dresses." I moved from dress rack, to dress rack, nothing really catching my eyes. "So many damn dresses." I mutter under my breath. Taking a sip of my iced coffee, I found myself walking towards the back of the store, when I saw it. The bright red fabric was pushed between a obnoxious orange and a pale pink dress. Push them aside, I grab the handger on the dress, pulling it out to take a good look at it. It was a deep red, with a gold neck line. It was long, and seemed to be a halter. I smiled and checked the size of dress, seeing it was my size, I made my way quickly to the dressing room.

"Pepper! I found a dress, it's super..." I didn't finish as Pepper stepped out of the dressing room. The navy dress fit her like a glove, hugging her waist perfectly. She looked stunning and my jaw dropped.

"Pepper.. you look beauitful!" She blushed as she ran her hands over the fabric.

"You don't think it's too much? I mean, I did have a dress picked out already. But this is just.." she sighed, turning side to side.

"Get it. It's perfect for you. Say if from Tony, he did miss your birthday after all." I pointed out as I wiggled my eyebrows. She smiled brightly at me, nodded her head.

"Alright, I'm getting it." She said all excitedly. She pointed to the dress in my hand.

"Did you..."

"Yeah, I found a dress. Gonna go try it on now." I smiled as I rushed into the dressing room across from her. Out of habit, I dress fast, throwing my clothes too the side and slow placing the dress on. Glancing at the mirror, a smile broke out on too my face.

"Oh yeah, this is the one."

Pepper couldn't help but stare at the young woman across from her in the black limo. She'd remembered the first time she meet Jazz. She had only been about sixteen, hot tempered teenager with bright pink hair. She had been hacking into her brother computer, when Pepper had walked in for her interview. Jazzalyn had explain she was just doing some homework but Pepper knew better. However, when Tony walked in to do the interview, panic crossed the younger girls face waiting for her punishment. Though when Pepper didnt say a thing, Jazzalyn instead that Tony hire her on the spot.

From the moment they became close. Hell, Pepper remembers crying like a baby when Jazzalyn had explain instead of going to college she wanted to go into the military, and she cried even harder when Jazzalyn actually left for boot camp.

But now, she was home and my how she had grown. The twenty-two year old had grown to be a beautiful woman. Hell, Pepper couldn't even look away from her sometimes. And tonight was no expectation. The dressed she picked out fit her like a glove, the gold rimmed around her neck seem too flicker in the light. She wore gold bangles and high heels to match. Her eyes where dark and her lips where painted red. She glanced over at Pepper, and she had to hold her breath as the young girls eyes almost glowed in the dim light.

"You're not going to leave my side right?" She ask quietly. Pepper smiled.

"Of course not." Jazzalyn smiled bright back and glanced forward to the door, which had open. Camera were going off, and Pepper could hear the people shouting and firing off question. As Jazzalyn stepped out, Pepper realized Tony may kill her for this.

Tony spun in he's chair still reading the article from earlier. He had to have read it about a million times already but couldn't get over it. 'Monster Destroys Manhattan!' A picture of a large figure in a smokey light was placed next too the article. He was surprised it wasn't in the main media, but then again, who would believe such a story? Jazzalyn would. Because she had been blown up and was about to control ice. He spun a few times in he's chair, when the television caught he's attention. A pretty blonde reporter pushed her hair behind her as she spoke.

"Tonight's red-hot red carpet is right here at the Disney Concert Hall, where Tony Stark's third annual benefit for the Firefighter's Family Fund has become the place to be for L.A.'s high society..."

"Jarvis, we get a invite for that?" Tony asked as he stopped moving and tapped hes finger on hes desk.

"I have no record of a invitation, sir." Tony hummed as he spun he chair left to right.

"... hasn't been seen in public since his bizarre and highly controversial press conference. Some claim he's suffering from posttraumatic stress and has been bedridden for weeks. Whatever the case may be, no one expects an appearance from him tonight." He frown at the tv slightly annoyed, but watched as the woman turned left, a surprsed look crossing her face. When she turned back towards the camera she had a huge smile plastered on her face.

"Though, Tony Stark won't be making appearance, it seems Jazzalyn Stark has come in he's place..." Tonys eyes widen as the camera zoomed into he's sisters frame. He watched as she gave a laugh to a man who spoke to her and Tony frown as he watched him give he's sister the once over. He did not like one bit. Tony stood up, grabbing he's key, throwing them up in the air and catching them in a swift move.

"Don't wait up for me, honey."

The flashing lights made my body tense. People where shouting for my attention and all I could think about was the coldness creeping over my legs. In a panic, I thought I might turn to crystal right there and then. When someone touched my lower back, I glanced back too see Pepper smiling brightly at me. I smiled back, hooking my arm with hers, we began out walk down the red carpet.

Why was I so scared of this? I flew fighter jets, flew planes into forbidden areas, along with being in tense situation every time I left for a new country. This was no different. Hell this was easier then that. Answers a few questions, smile for the cameras. I could do this.

"Hey sexy!"

Okay no. Not okay. I stop abruptly, and glared back seeing a young reporter wink at me. I went to go say something when Pepper pulled me back.

"Woo, woo." She said sharply. I glanced over at her and arched my eyebrow.

"Did you hear that..."

"I know. I know. Just ignore him. You know how guys..."

"Come on, Ms. Stark! Show us a little something." I felt the chill hit me again and Pepper must have felt it too because she pulled away sharply, I turned on my heels ready to start a fight when a man got to them before me.

"Gentleman. Thank you for attending the event, but I believe we have enough reporters." In a instant, two bodyguards lead them away from the carpet. I could feel all camera on me and I tensed as the man turned to me give me a crooked smile.

"Ms. Stark! Such a surprises and pleasures to see you again! Gosh got rid of the pink hair I see." He smiled brightly at me and I laughed awkwardly, unsure of how he knew me. He stuck hes hand out for me too shake.

"It's good too see you too Mr..." hes smile became wider.

"Hammer. Justin Hammer. I know its been awhile since we've meet..." Hammer. Hammer. Hammer. Why did that sound familiar? Oh right! Hammer Industry. Rival to Stark Industry. The last time I saw him was when I was sixteen and got in the way of a meeting between him and my brother. And I blew up he's computer.

"Right! I owe you a computer I believe." I said laughing lightly, and shook he's hand. He laughs brightly at the topic and pats my hand.

"Well how about you pay that computer off by joining me for a drink." Hes smiled wided as he linked arms with me and glanced around for Pepper. She was glancing at her hand and I felt my heart race. Did she feel the ice from my arm? I glanced forward and walked with Justin, feeling every camera flashing on us and barely listen to him speaking to me when I saw Obadiah. He was watching me, and when he noticed me staring he smiled, nodding towards me. I smiled lightly but I could feel the tension in the air. He was up too something. I could feel it.

And if you have enough you'll get the pass
