A/N: Hey everyone sorry I'm taking so long to update; I've been busy with college and a lot of other things. I am taking Dramatic writing, and Film and Television courses so most of my time has been occupied by those assessments, I also just adopted a new puppy, her name is Athena! Also please feel free to email me, asking about my story, or just telling me you want me to continue writing, it really does help motivate me. Every time I see someone has taken notice in my story I'm all like "My people need me!" and start writing. So thank you for all of the support! Chapter 8: Fairies of Oz Part 2
(P.O.V Lucy)
I looked around the strange world my mouth hanging wide open. "I would close my mouth if I was you, a fly might get lost in there, or your face will get stuck, hehe" I looked down at the dog/cat child who held his paws to his face and snickered at me.
"I don't want to hear that from a talking dog!" I shouted in defense.
"I'm a cat!" He whined back as his dog ears flattened against his head in sadness.
"Yeah... So Toto do you know where we are?" I questioned, hoping my new magical dog could tell me something.
"Nope I was just along for the ride~" the child chimed as he got on all fours and scratched his ear with his foot; flexible kid. "There!" The dog pointed with his arm and nose off into the horizon.
"What?!" I screamed back startled from his outburst.
"I smell food, and where there is food there are-"
"People" I cried
"Aye!" Happy, I mean Toto stood up on his legs again. "Let's go Dorothy!" Then in a poof of smoke the dog/cat/child was flying next to me white wings extending out of his back.
"Whoa, you have wings! Wait, since when could you fly?" I questioned my pet as we started in the direction he smelt food.
"Since forever" he grinned.
"Hey Toto carry me!" I chimed.
"No way Dorothy, do you see what you eat? We'd fall out of the sky!" He exclaimed with horror on his face.
"A simply no would have been fine" I whined knowing he was commenting on my weight.
"So this is the place?" I asked Toto as we peered over some bushes.
"Aye" he whispered back to me staring into the houses that were made of concrete with different colored shingles lining the roofs, the only strange thing about the houses was that I was as tall or taller than most of them. "They look like giant cat houses" Toto wagged his tail.
"I'm sure they are for people" I sighed and as I did three little people ran over the bridge into the village.
"There's a witch!" A girl yelled. The rest of the town start to opened their doors and peer into the square to see all the commotion.
"What? Is it the witch of the west?" An older man shouted.
"Is she a bad witch?" Another small person asked.
"We don't know she fell out of the sky in a house!"
"And last we saw her she was coming this way!" The crowd that had gathered started to scream with panic.
I watched as they all gathered closer and started to discuss how they were going to deal with the witch, however, I had a strange feeling that these little people were talking about me. "Toto let get out of here..." I started to move and before I knew it my knee cracked a stick and the whole town as surrounding Happy and I. Before long my cat like dog and eye were tied up in the town square.
"So what do you want witch?" One of the small people stepped in my face.
"I'm not a witch, I'm Dorothy and I just want to find a way home" I looked around frantically.
"And I'm a cat!" Happy commented.
"You're a dog" I sighed, not sure how this is all happening.
"Call the good witch she'll know what to do" one of the piped up, just then a faint bubble started to float from the sky and as it floated to the ground is popped and appeared a girl with short blue hair and stood about 4'10 not much taller than the other people around her.
"Well hello there" she smiled
"He-hello…"
She walked around me and observed my dog and I. "You look pretty enough... So are you bad witch or a good witch, which?" She asked.
'Um... Neither I'm just a normal girl from Kansas, my name is Dorothy ma'am" I answered her a little confused about what she was talking about.
"Well what is it you want Dorothy?" She asked me as she fixed the bandana on her head.
"I just want to get home, by the way where am I?" I questioned her this time as I looked around the magical world again.
"This is the land of Oz Dorothy, and this is Munchkin land where the Munchkin live!" She laughed like what I said was obvious.
"What are munchkins?" Toto/Happy asked.
"Well they are of course" she pointed around to all of the little people that came out to see what was going on.
She flicked her wrist and the tip of her wand sparkled as the ropes around us disappeared. "You said you wanted to go home, however, I do not have that kind of power to assist you"
"Then what can I do?" I asked worried I might not be able to see my family again.
"You must go to the capital and meet with the Great Wizard; he will know how to return you to your world"
"How do I get there?" I was determined to find this wizard.
"You just fallow the yellow brick road" she smiled and pointed down at my feet and as I looked I realized I was standing on the yellow brick road "the journey can get dangerous, dear Dorothy so I will leave you with a gift that will protect you" she flicked her wrist again and I felt my fett get cool. I looked down to see why and instead out starring at my normal brown shoes I saw red, sparkling heals around my feet.
"These..." I started awe struck at the magic.
"These shoes will protect you from harm and help you on your journey" the blue haired witch smiled, "now I must be off Dorothy, remember to stay on the yellow brick road and you will find your way back home" as she finished her sentence she disappeared into a bubble again and floated away. The munchkins waved her by and then grabbed my hand.
"This way miss"
"We'll help you to the edge of town"
The next thing I know is that we are breaking out into song with verses like "fallow the yellow brick road. Fallow the yellow brick road. Fallow, fallow, fallow, fallow the yellow brick road. We're off to see the wizard..." And with the lines, upbeat steps in my head and Toto flying next to me I was off to see the wonderful wizard of oz!
"Toto do you know which way?"
"No, my cat nose isn't picking up any food smells from here"
"You're a dog" I sighed again as I stared at the three different paths in front of me. 'Which way should I go?' I thought hoping an answer would fall out of the sky.
"Try that way"
I looked around confused about the voice that came out of nowhere.
"Or that way..."
Okay maybe not nowhere; the voice is coming from my left. "He-hello?" I questioned. As I looked into a corn field all I could see was a scarecrow hitches up on a wooden stand. "To do you heard that voice too right?" I looked back at my dog that was hovering behind me.
"Aye" I turned back and stared at the scarecrow, perplexed on who could be talking.
"Hi there!" The arm of the scarecrow lifted up casually; however, my first reaction wasn't to great him.
After a high pitched screech and hanging onto my dog for dear life I managed a voice. "It talks?!"
"I'm not an it, I'm a scarecrow" he grinned goofily at me.
"Well where I come from scarecrows don't talk" I spoke frankly, a little annoyed by a talking scarecrow. "So, do you know which way the capitol is?" I asked him ad he hung there his lip pulled up in thought.
"No idea" he grinned again.
I almost fell over at his answer, "but you were just giving directions a few second ago!" I shouted at him.
"Well you see when the farmer made me he forgot to give me a brain so my I have a very short attention span and try to stay away from thinking. Boy could I use some food, I'm starving!" He grinned and frowned at his predicament.
"Scarecrows eat too? What do they eat?" Happy flew over to him his boyish features lighting up at this new wonder.
"Fire of course!" The scarecrow laughed.
"But you're made of hay!" I cried. The both of them just ignored me and continued on talking about if fire was delicious or not.
"So you're name is Debra?" The scarecrow asked.
"Dorothy" I snapped back.
"Nice to meet you Dorky" he grinned back. I quickly let it go on the account he's brainless, and that he was pushing to get Dorothy kicked back into hay barrels.
"So why are you guys heading to the capitol?" He asked while half staring of into space.
"We're trying to get back home" Happy grinned at the man still on the post.
"Hey if I went with you guys do you think the wizard would give me all the food I can eat?" He asked seriously.
"I thought you wanted a brain?" I asked.
"Oh yes, what I wouldn't do for food…"
"A brain" I corrected.
"...a brain" he repeated.
Toto and I started to help the scarecrow off his stand and he fell face first into the ground. Next thing I know he's breaking out into song.
"Oh if only I had food" he started.
"A brain" I corrected again.
"I could wile away the hours,
Sittin' with the flowers,
Eating till I'm in pain...
And my belly I'd be rubbin'
While my mouth would be chewin'
If only I had food..."
"A brain" I sighed.
"A brain!" He sung. Somehow between his goof ball dancing and the music in the background I joined in.
"With the food you'd be eatin'
You could get full and start sleepin'
Then go find yourself a brain" I finished my verse only to see a day dreaming scarecrow.
"Aye!" Toto chimed in the air.
"...I could eat things I never ate before,
And then I'd sit and eat some more!" His voiced raise and while I fought to keep his mind off food and to stay focused on his brain we ended up just singing about food.
"You know, I'm pretty sure you need a brain" I sighed.
"And food" he grinned as he put his hands on his hips, "So can I go to the capitol with you?" He asked cheerily.
Unfortunately, I couldn't say no, " sure Scarecrow, but remember while there will most likely be a lot of food, you also need a brain"
"I need fire, right!" He grinned in amusement.
"You can't eat fire!" I shouted as we started to walk down one of the yellow brick roads, hoping we'd find our way to the capitol soon.
"Um, Scarecrow"
"Yeah, Dorky?" he asked as we walked through the path, huge, dark trees on either side of us.
"Where are we?" I asked shaking from the chills of the wind that ran up along my spine.
"The Haunted Forest of Snow White!" his voice rang out as the air darkened around him.
"Nooo!" I screamed and covered my ears, "Don't scare me like that!" I whined more.
"Oh Dorothy, don't be such a scaredy dog" Toto commented as he fly by Scarecrow and I. Just then a loud screeching sound echoed around us, causing Toto to whimper and hide behind me as he clung onto my arm.
"Who's the scared one now?" I teased.
"Shut up!" he whined.
"Hey you two, do you hear that?" Scarecrow turned his head to the side and cupped a hand around his ear. Toto turned his head, coping the pink haired Scarecrow, as I too strained my ears to hear the sound. "Sound like screeching… Wonder what it is" he scratched his head as he thought about the sound.
"I hear it too!" Toto exclaimed and started to fly off, "Its coming from this way" I was about to fallow my flying dog when I turned around and saw that Scarecrow was standing there confused.
"You coming?" I asked.
"What are we doing again?" he put his hand to his mouth and thought.
"Idiot!" I grabbed his arm and started to pull him along as we went to investigate the noise.
We came to a small clearing in the woods and standing in the middle of it was an armored figure.
"What is it?" Happy; I mean Toto asked flying close by to the pyro scarecrow and I.
"I don't know" I answered, wondering why I am being asked.
"We should burn it" Scarecrow smiled mischievously.
"Stop trying to play with fire!" I yelled at him as we got closer to the figure. After getting better look I noticed that the armored person was a woman, however, she looked to be incased in stone. We all just stared at her for a moment, awe struck from the sight.
"Let's burn her!" Na-Scarecrow pulled a hairspray can and a lighter that he lit and was about to engulf the statue in flames when I stopped him.
"Would you stop that?" I started screaming at him, "I know you don't have brains but doesn't mean you go and start trying to burn stuff, plus you can catch on fire too you know!" As I was yelling there was a loud thud, and the screeching sound once again but this time right behind us and ten times louder. We all quickly turned around, unsure what was coming out way. Out of the trees came a huge green, lizard type monster. It cried out once more.
"Eep!" I cried and stumbled back hitting the statue of the woman with my hand. All of a sudden the statue was engulfed in light and the stone started to dissolve revealing a red headed woman. She stared at me, her eyes narrowed slightly.
"Princess!" she knelt down in front of me and took my hand.
"Princess?!" Toto and Scarecrow yeld behind me.
"I'm not a Princess, and are we just forgetting about the giant monster?!" I screamed back at them.
"A monster?" The woman stood up and looked at the giant creature, "Leave this to me milady" she took her sword and pointed it at the monster. "You dare try and harm the maiden that rescued me from the stone curse, prepare to perish beast!" she called out to the monster, causing it the shriek into the air. In a flash the woman was up by the giant lizard, and in another flash the creature was falling to the ground and the woman was walking back.
"Holy crap!" Scarecrow cried out in shock, and happiness.
"Wow!" Toto exclaimed as she got closer, "You are amazing miss!"
"Thank you cat" she replied with a smile.
"He's a dog…" I sighed.
"And thank you princess!" she knelt in front of me again and took my hand.
"Ah-um, my name is Dorothy, and what did I do may I ask?" I peered down at her and she quickly stood up.
"You saved me! You're touch broke the curse of the stone!" she declared a little too enthusiastically. "The Wicked Witch of the West, put that curse on me, laced it in my delicious strawberry tart!" she teared up slightly.
"Oh… um, I'm sorry" I spoke, unsure of what to say.
"It's okay milady, I am the Tin Warrior, you may call me TINtania" she bowed toward me.
"Oh, this is Toto, and this is Scarecrow" I smiled and gestured to the other two.
"You are so awesome!" Nats- Scarecrow gleamed with light.
"Nice to meet you Tintania" Toto smiled happily as he flew over next to the warrior.
"May I ask, what were you doing in these parts milady?" Erza, I mean, Tintania looked over at me as Scarecrow and Toto exaimened her.
"Oh, we were heading to the capitol to meet with the Wizard."
"The Wizard?! May I go with you!" she grabbed onto my hands and got really close to my face.
"Huh?" shocked I stood there as she explained herself.
"I heard that the capitol has amazing cakes, and tarts, and sweet! I would love to try some!"
"What is up with you guys and food?" I sighed as I remembered the musical number with the Scarecrow.
"Huh, because sweet make you feel all warm, and fuzzy inside. They make you glow-" she started to turn away dramatically and before another musical number could break out I cut in.
"You may come with us!" I screamed.
"Thank you milady, I will not let you down!" she bowed again.
"Why are we on this trip again" I sighed under my breath.
"Yo, Dopey, you coming?" Scarecrow yelled at me and as I looked up I realized that everyone was leaving me behind.
"Hey wait up! And my name is Dorothy!" I yelled as I ran to catch up.
"Um… Tintania… where are we?" I asked as the sound of the jungle surrounded us.
"Honestly… I have no idea" she hung her head low, as Scarecrow flew in front of her on a vine!
"Yahoo!" he cried out right before he smacked into a tree.
"Scarecrow stop it! Something might hear you and come to eat us."
"Oh like what?" he grinned as he laid on the ground a red mark across his face from the tree.
"I dunno maybe a lion" I thought.
"A tiger?" Tintania threw in.
"How about a bear!" Scarecrow jumped up.
"Oh my!" Toto shouted out.
"Would you two be quiet!" I shouted back, quickly covering my mouth realizing I was the loudest. Then all of a sudden we heard a rustling in the bushes near us. "What's that?" I whined to myself.
"A lion?" Tintania stared at the bush.
"A tiger?" Toto flew next to her doing the same.
"A bear?!" Scarecrow happily got the closest as I tried to shrink away.
"Oh my…" I whined, waiting for the creature to appear out of the bushes.
"Hey, would you idiots keep it down" and annoyed voice came from the direction of the bushes.
"A lion!" Scarecrow, and Toto looked disappointed as Tintania looked satisfied. The other two handed her money as they hung their heads low.
"You were beating?!" I shouted in shock once more, freezing in mid-action realizing there was a lion with us. I quickly looked and saw more of a boy then a lion. He had golden fur like pants that had a flicking tail attached to them. He wore no shirt; or better explained her didn't have any fur on his upper half, revealing a very toned, and muscular abdomen. His hair was black instead of gold like his fur, but on top of his head were two golden lion ears twitching to the noise of the jungle.
"You're a lion?" I questioned.
"Yeah, what of it?"
"You sure you're not a pervert?" I asked, skeptic.
"Of course I'm a lion!" he shouted in defense.
"Okay, okay, sorry. It's just where I come from lions don't look like you"
"Here I'll prove it to you, listen to my roar!" he puffed out his chest and the rest of us held our breath. "Naw I'm too tired to roar" he yawned and scratched his head.
"WHAT?!" we all shouted in disbelief. There was a pause and then Scarecrow looked like he remembered something.
"I've heard of you from the crows, you're the cowardly lion!"
"I'm not cowardly! I'm just tired! Why fight when I would rather sleep!" Lion shouted at him.
"Uhuh, sure scaredy cat" Scarecrow chuckled.
"Why you little hay bag!" Lion and Scarecrow got in each other's face and started to argue.
"So he's too tired to roar, but can still pick a fight with Scarecrow?" Toto questioned, unsure of what he was seeing.
"Don't pay attention to them, I stopped trying to make since of this world." I looked over at Tintania. "Let's go" I sighed and the three of us started to walk away leaving Scarecrow behind.
"Hey hold up you guys!" he called out to us.
"Yo where are you going?" Lion called out to him.
"To the capitol!" Scarecrow called back.
"Huh? What for?" Lion asked with a big cat-like yawn.
"To meet with the wizard of course!" I called back as we started to climb up a steep hill. There was silence for a moment and then Lion called out to us again.
"Take me with you!"
"Huh?!" I looked backed at him.
"You're off to see the wizard right?"
"We're off to see the wizard." I repeated nodding my head yes slightly.
"Oh let him come Dorothy, what is one more person?" Tintania smiled down at me as she held me to the top of the hill.
I sighed and looked back at Lion standing there waiting for an answer.
"Oh fine, hurry up, you lazy house cat" I smiled to him.
"Who's a house cat?" he smirked toward us and took his time catching up with the group.
At the top of the hill we could see a emerald green castle off in the distance. The sky's were blue and the breeze crisp, and in a spur of the moment we all locked arms and started to sing.
"We-'re off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz! Because, because, because, because, because – of the wonderful things he does!"
(P.O.V. Natsu)
The curtains closed and the lights blacked out as a voice over an intercom came on over head. "Ladies and gentlemen at this time we'll be having a 15 minute intermission, please feel free to leave the theater and purchase refreshments and relax, while our actors get ready for the next act." I looked around and scretched slightly.
"Good job you guys!" Tono whispered as he came out from back stage, motioning us to go relax for a minute as the rest of them set up the new set for the stage. Lucy came up next to me and smiled slightly.
"You can sing" she said. I was taken aback so I just stared at her. "Even the song was silly, and a little weird you can actually sing good" her smile got bigger.
"Huh? No way, you're the one who can sing" I grinned back at her.
"You think so? I was so nervous that everything went blank, I wasn't even sure if I was singing" she sighed heavily.
"You did great Lucy!" I reassured her.
"Thanks" she smiled again, "Oh" she got close to me putting her hands by my face, "You're hat is a little messed up." She started to fix it and without realizing it her face was inches away from mine. My heart started to pound in my chest so I quickly looked down and noticed she was standing on her tip toes.
'She's so short' I thought as a smile came across my face, my heart still pounding in my chest, all of a sudden my body decided it was going to move on its own again and my hand went to the bottom of her braided pig-tails. She instantly froze and looked at me confused. I wanted to laugh at her reaction but instead I played it off. "The bows, they were lose" I smiled to her as I tightened the one.
"Oh!" she looked down at the other and tightened it more, "Thank you Natsu" she smiled at me happily and walked away to go get refreshments back stage.
"Geez Natsu what are you doing" I sighed to myself and fallowed.
To be continued…
A/N: This is my longest chapter yet! Next chapter will be the last for "Fairies of Oz" and I hope to start that as soon as possible! Honestly, I was getting tired of writing it so I decided an intermission would be nice, that way we can have a change of pace! Remember this is about Fairy High not the Wizard of Oz! Please look forward to the next chapter, and please leave any comments or PM any ideas! Thank you all for fallowing the story this far, even after it taking me so long to update. Thank you!
