Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight.
Author's Note: YES! Here is the next chapter even though it is a little late. Sorry if it seems a bit rushed but I am having MAJOR writer's block but DO NOT FEAR! I WILL MAKE IT THROUGH SOMEHOW!
IMPORTANT: Just to let you guys know, I appreciate your advice but I already knew the Volturi don't like vamp-babies and I have an idea of what to do about this so you'll just have to keep reading and reviewing and you'll see what I have in mind for Gabby's fate. *insert evil laughter and crack of lightening*
Thanks for the reviews and I hope you like it! :D
Paul's POV
I was still on my high as I made my way back to Sam's house. My heart leapt with happiness and if I had been in my human form, I would be grinning like a maniac. About an hour ago I had arrived at Sam's house to rendezvous with Jared and Brady for patrol when Sam had pulled me aside and took me into the kitchen where Emily was waiting. We'd sat down and chatted a bit until Sam came right out and said he and Emily wanted to adopt Gabby.
It had been Emily's idea and for the longest time I had wondered what I was going to do with Gabby, now that we know she doesn't have any family (except for her sister but she hardly counts as family). My worries have finally bet laid to rest and I was so happy I practically broke Sam when I slapped him merrily on the back. If I could have kissed Emily I would have, but I would have died a very painful death shortly afterwards by her jealous husband, a.k.a. Sam Uley.
You got that right. You would be chopped liver. Jared's voice popped into my head as he ran beside me. Brady caught up to us and appeared on my other side, looking annoyed.
I can't believe I got stuck with two imprinted werewolves! Are girls all you ever think about?
We only think about one girl, Brady, and that's our imprint. Imprint once and then come back and try to complain to us about our girls. Jared retorted. I barked a laugh at the thought of Brady imprinting. I would kill to see the look on his face.
Whatever Jared. Are you sure Emily and Sam can handle Gabby? I mean, she is cute, but she's kind of a handful.
Stop being such a worrywart Brady, everything will be fine. Sam and Emily can take care of themselves and Gabby will be fine. She'll have a new home and she's already starting school here and so she'll be all set to go. Besides, there's no safer place on Earth for her than here with us. Jared thought. That reminds me, today is Gabby's first day of school. I hoped she was having a good time, otherwise some parents might not approve of me going down there and beating up the kids who might think it's okay to bully a werewolf's imprint. I was supposed to be picking her up but I forgot I had patrol and so she will probably be upset with me.
She's five. She'll get over it. Jared thought. I hoped so. I've never had an imprint mad at me before. Sam's house was coming into view and I could see their backyard. We slowed down and I was about to stop when Sam burst out the back door and started racing for the forest, stripping off his clothes. I quickly ran out into the yard before he could start taking his shorts off and he skidded to a halt when he recognized me.
"Paul! Something's happened!" he said.
What happened? What's wrong? I thought to him, momentarily forgetting he couldn't hear me.
"It's Gabby, she's disappeared. Emily went to go pick her up and she wasn't there!" My heart skipped a beat and I went into a panic. Gabby wasn't at school? Did something happen to her? Did someone abduct her? Just then Emily ran through the back door and stopped next to Sam, looking up at us. She was red faced and teary eyed, as if she'd been crying, and she was out of breath.
"Paul I'm so sorry! I don't know what could have happened to her! I called Charlie and he's planning a search and rescue squad and Leah and Jacob are driving around, trying to see if she's anywhere nearby. I'm so sorry I just, I don't know what to do!" She said and broke down sobbing. Sam held her against him and smoothed her hair. It was unnerving to see Emily in such a flustered state. Usually she was calm and collected but the disappearance of Gabby must have given her a real scare. She was already acting like such a mother towards her.
With Emily still in his arms he turned to us and barked out orders of where to look. The three of us nodded and took off in different directions. Thoughts swirled through my head, both angry and scared, and I prayed this was just a misunderstanding and that she was just hiding in a bush somewhere, but deep down I feared it might be something more sinister than that. What if a vampire got her? What if right now he was sinking his teeth into her soft neck and sucking the blood right out of her? What if she was already dead? Maybe he was taking her to his lair somewhere, or maybe he was already on a plane ride back to wherever he came from. That's it! That's where I'll look, even if it's far away, better safe than sorry.
The airport.
A top speed, which I was running at, it would only take ten minutes to reach the airport. I made it there in no time and wisely kept to the forest, in case there were humans around which there were lots of. I started sniffing the ground, hoping for any kind of trace of her scent. Just dirt, and gasoline. And a little bit of someone's hot dog. But I'd lost my appetite at the thought of something bad happening to my poor Gabby. I looked out onto the runway and saw a plane taking off. What if she was on one of those planes? Would a vampire take their prey to someplace else before killing them? I shuddered at the thought. Just then a new scent hit me and my heart pounded against my chest. It was Gabby's. It was faint, old, but it was still hers. She'd definitely been here.
I followed it quickly, tracing it back to a small tree that had no leaves on it. On its boney branches hung a little pink ribbon, I knew it came from the outfit Kim had bought Gabby for school. As my heart lifted and dropped like a rock, my anger began to rise and I knew my suspicions were confirmed. Gabby had definitely been here, and she was kidnapped. Don't ask me how I knew, I just had a feeling. Why would Gabby come here, much less even know the way to the airport? She had to be with someone, but with whom? What kind of monster would steal a child?! My anger was over the top and had anyone been standing within two feet of me they would be dead. Instead I tried to vent my anger on the stupid little tree that held my imprint's ribbon. Now it was just a pile of torn up sticks. It didn't help at all.
This wasn't fair! I had lost her. I couldn't believe I had lost her. It was only last night that I was tucking her in and promising myself that I would never let this happen. Whoever did this was going to pay. Big time. I would do anything to save my Gabby, even if it meant fighting a whole army of vampires by myself. I tried to think of anyone who might want to take Gabby. Anyone who might want to harm her must be asking for a death wish, because that's exactly what's going to happen when I find them. And then it hit me. I knew who did it. She's been hiding in the background all along.
Sissy.
How could I have missed that? She must have taken her somewhere right after Emily dropped her off at school. Dammit I should have been there for her! There was only one thing I could do now. Running away towards the Alaskan Wilderness will not give me answers. I wasn't going to be a coward like Jacob. Hell, I was to mad to be a coward. Trying, and not giving up and running away with my tail between my legs will. And that's when I turned around and started heading for the border.
I was going to have a talk with the Cullen's.
I made it to their house in record time, not even stopping to listen to Jared, Brady, and now Sam's worried voices. They'd heard about my killer intent. I was too mad to listen to them, too mad to think. Old Paul was coming back, fast, and he was about to hit like a freight train without brakes.
The mind-reading vampire, Edward, walking calmly out of the house followed by his family. I didn't care about those stupid vampires, all I cared about was getting my Gabby back. I howled as loud as I could anyway. I knew, from the voices in the back of my mind, that the others were on their way here. They would try to calm me down and tell me to be reasonable but it was hard to be nice when your freaking imprint was just kidnapped by a freaking vampire.
"Paul we know why you're here. She already left with her." Edward said in that steely calm voice. The anger that flowed off of me in waves probably made him uneasy and it was probably a good idea that Bella and her half-breed kid stayed the farthest back. All of the guys were in front of the girls, staring at me warily. Good, I hoped they were scared.
Where did that bitch take her? Where the hell is Gabby? I thought angrily, knowing he could understand me.
"She took her on a flight to Italy. I know your upset---" he said.
I'm pissed. Did all of that blood rush to your head? I am not just upset, I'm freaking pissed off! I interrupted him.
"---but you can't just go chasing after her. That woman who took her was a part of the Volturi. Just you alone won't be able to get your imprint back by yourself." He finished. That put my anger on hold and slowly the more thoughtful side of Old Paul came up. The Volturi were that group of vampires that had invaded and threatened to kill the newborn brat but the bloodsucker with the ability to see the future managed to stop them.
What?! The Cullen's were attacked by the Volturi?! Jacob's voice popped into my head and I realized the pack was almost there.
You weren't here when this happened, Jake, you were still somewhere up in Canada. Sam's voice replied back. I knew Jacob felt bad for abandoning us, the traitor he should, but now wasn't time to comfort him. Now was the time to comfort me, 'cause my imprint is still in the hands of some disgusting leech.
The future seeing leech stepped forward, around her mate, and looked up at me in annoyance. I knew she didn't like us because she couldn't predict the future when we were around.
"When the woman and child came here, I saw a bit of her future but it was kind of hazy because it has something to do with you guys. From what I could see, the woman is planning on asking Aro if she can turn the little girl," she said. Her name is Gabby I thought but she couldn't understand me, "into a vampire. They didn't look like they approved, probably because she's too young, and so I think we might still have some time before it's too late."
"Then again, she might just drain her instead if she can turn her." The burly one, Emmett, said. I snarled at him and the blonde girl vamp smacked him on the back of the head. Suddenly I heard paws hitting the ground and I was surrounded by the pack. Everybody was there; Sam, Jared, Jacob, Leah, Brady, Collin, and Quil. I didn't see Embry though.
He offered to stay behind and watch over Emily and Claire. Sam explained.
What do you mean stay behind? I thought.
Well you really don't just expect us to stay here and do nothing when Gabby is being taken to Italy, do you? Besides, there's safety in numbers. If one of us goes, we all go. Leah said.
I imprinted on a child too, Paul. I know how it must feel to be doing absolutely nothing when you should be snapping their attacker's neck in half. Quil said. I was touched and it made me calm down a bit.
What are we going to do then? We can't afford to go to Italy.
"We can help you with that." Edward butted in. We all looked at him. "That little girl doesn't deserve to be damned like us. Just from hearing her thoughts, I could tell she was sweet and innocent. Too innocent to be hanging around a group like the Volturi. We wouldn't mind spending a few dollars on some plane tickets."
"And, if it's possible, we'd like to come too." Carlisle added.
We all pondered over it and talked. I was happy for the tickets but it would be hard to adjust in a plane full of stinking vampires. A sacrifice will have to be made if I wanna save Gabby, so I'll do it if I have too. We turned back to them.
Alright, but we'll need another one of us to stay behind to help Embry. Collin will you do it? I could feel the younger kid's nervousness about the whole ordeal and he quickly agreed and took off back onto our land.
"Then it's settled. Alice, when's the next plane to Italy?" Edward said. She blanked out for a moment.
"An hour." She replied.
"Alright then, we'll meet you at the airport in an hour. I'll advise you now to say goodbye to your loved ones because you never know how its going to turn out with the Volutri." Carlisle said. Great, just the way I like it. I'm not afraid to throw my life on the line to save my imprint. A few bloodsuckers with some special powers don't worry me. All I have to do is kick their cold lifeless asses right? Simple as that. Now that its fully come out, you now know how Old Paul thinks. Simple, short, and too the point.
We all stood up, ready to take off back into our territory, when Jacob turned and looked at Bella and the newborn. Shock rippled through the pack and it was coming from Jacob. His whole body was frozen and his mouth was hanging open in shock. He was so stunned, even his thought process doesn't make any sense.
What is it Jake? What's wrong? Leah asked who was closest to him. His eyes never left Bella and the newborn.
I…I think I just imprinted! He thought. We all were surprised, well most of us were, and Edward (having witnessed the whole thing) uncharacteristically rolled his eyes.
He'd imprinted on the newborn.
Oh great, I thought, just what we need, and proceeded to roll my eyes as well.
HOLY CRAP IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME! I am so sorry for the long wait but a lot of stuff has been going on and it has just made my mind go caput. Anyway I'm sorry if this chapter seems rushed but I'm a little more than halfway to almost finishing the story. YAY! I can't wait for the ending. I know you guys are all confused about Gabby being turned but you'll see in the next few chapters what I have in mind! Thanks for reading and reviews and ideas are welcome!
Here's the preview for the next chapter! Sorry for the shortness but it's a pain to write long previews anymore. You get a little bit of Paul and Gabby (Diana) POVs and you'll find out what Diana has in store for little Gabby. Until next time!
Diana's POV
Gabby was getting impatient and more and more upset and it was extremely difficult to keep her from throwing a tantrum, which was just around the corner, as we exited the airport in Italy. I clung to her hand, even though she refused to hold on to mine anymore, and practically dragged her to the limosine waiting for us. Demetri's mocking smirk did not help my situation whatsoever and I was considering making him walk back. I finally managed to wrestle her into the seat (just in time too) and as soon as I sat in the car the tantrum began. She kicked and screamed kicking the wall in front of her where Demetri was sitting (HA! TAKE THAT!).
"I WANT PAW! I WANT PAW!" she yelled. It hurt my sensitive ears.
"You'll see Paw when we get there, sweetie, now sit down and be quiet!" I lied but I would do anything right now to get her to be quiet.
"NO! I WANT PAW NOW!"
"Gabby your acting like a baby. What do you think Paul would think of your behavior right now?" I said to try and calm her down. It didn't work.
"I DON'T CARE! PAW PAW PAW!"
"Gabby be quiet!" I barked at her. She ignored me and started going after the windows, wiggling in her seat.
"I want to see Paw right now or else I'll hold my breath!" She snapped.
"Gabby stop being so immature! And stop whining, we're almost there! You'll never get turned if you keep acting like this." I told her. Her only response was taking a deep breath and holding it. And holding it. And holding it. When did this child learn to hold her breath for so long?
"Gabriella stop that right now!"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT! MY NAME IS GABBY!"
"Your name is Gabriella and I will keep calling you that unless you SHUT UP!" Finally she was quiet although I could tell she was mad. The frown on her face was big and it contorted her cute face as if she had smelled something revolting. We pulled up to the main entrance, where I saw Heidi walking out, probably searching for more victims, and she glanced at the limo before disappearing with the crowd.
I got out and unbuckled Gabby, who looked ready to start screaming any minute, and took her hand. We started walking towards the main entrance. Demetri got out but he didn't follow me. Instead he said,
"What are we gonna do if the werewolves decided to follow us?" I stopped and looked back at him in distain.
"If they were dumb enough, you mean?" I asked. He just looked at me seriously. I rolled my eyes.
"Do the obvious thing! Kill them!"
