Chapter Eight
Dead Bite
Jadelyn West walked out of the hospital that Wednesday with a sigh. Her mom had left a message at the front desk to go out to their usual parking spot because she was waiting on her daughter. Jade had wished then more than ever that she could drive after her chemo sessions.
As she approached the car, her footsteps slowed down. She noticed very quickly that it wasn't her moms car sitting in the parking spot. "Mom...?" She called out, confused.
Tori Vega walked out from behind the parked car with a haunted look on her face, and Jade started to run away. Tori quickly caught up and pulled the other girl to a stop.
"Vega, what in the hell are you doing here?" Jade snapped at the girl, not meeting her gaze.
"Picking up my girlfriend who doesn't want to tell me important details of her life." Tori said with a heavy dose of sarcasm, so much so that Jade was surprised.
"Since when did you get a car?" Jade was doing everything to avoid the elephant in the... room? Parking lot?
"It's my moms. I got my license a few weeks ago. I don't have a car." Tori replied dryly. "When did you get cancer?"
'Well, I started dating you a few weeks ago...' Jade winced. "Don't..."
"No. We need to talk about it." Victoria sighed. She hated seeing Jade so...vulnerable.
Jade looked up at Tori with venom in her eyes, but not in her voice. "I told you you'd regret it. I didn't want to fall for you, I didn't want another heartbreak."
Tori was confused for a split second, but then it clicked. "You think I'm going to leave you?"
Jade snorted. "Why wouldn't you? Who wants to be dating a dead girl?"
"You are not a dead girl." Tori said, stepping closer to the West girl and holding her gaze with a new found intensity. "You are the most amazing girl I've ever met. I will never met a person better than you, and I will spend every second I possibly can proving that to you."
"I already know I'm amazing." Jade muttered, finally showing her old self.
Tori smirked before getting serious again. "I will not leave you... But when were you going to tell me?"
Jade shrugged. "When my doctor told me I was getting better." It was a half-assed answer, but Tori let it slide.
Vega sighed, then shook her head. "Come on," she said as she led her girlfriend to her sisters car. "I'm taking you to dinner."
"Nozu's?" Jade asked hopefully before she could stop herself. Even if she didn't feel like she could stomach anything, it was still their restaurant.
Tori stopped mid-step, turned on a dime and kissed the other girl. "Of course."
They got in the car but before Tori could turn the engine on, Jade kissed her deeply. As she pulled away, she leaned her forehead on the Latina's and whispered, "I'm sorry."
"For what?" Tori couldn't help it, she was always a little dazed after she kissed Jade.
"I want to be-well, not perfect. No one can be perfect. I want to be healthy for you. I want to guarantee a future for us. For me." What was it with Victoria Vega that had Jadelyn West speaking without thinking, she had no clue.
Tori frowned, and gave her girlfriend a peck before responding. "Jade, no ones future is guaranteed. Not even mine."
Author's note: Here you go.
This chapter was deep. And to all the people thinking that Tori was going to leave Jade because she found out about the cancer, Tori isn't like that. Jeez. :)
