Chapter 8: Typical Stuff and Such
John's P.O.V.
I began to nod off into sleep when I remembered that T.K. still had her head on my shoulder. I looked down at her face and smiled. She looks so peaceful when she sleeps. I felt that it would be a crime if I were to wake her from her peaceful slumber. I could never bring myself to wake her when she would fall asleep in my bed. I couldn't do it. On nights like that, I would sleep on the couch or climb in bed with her. She felt safe like that and it made her happy.
I will do anything to make her happy. To see her smile, to hear her laugh.
I quietly separated myself from T.K. and gently picked her up. The decorative white pillow from the couch fell from her grip and landed back on the couch. She stirred in my arms and I stood still as she did so. T.K. finally stopped when she grabbed on to my shirt and dug her face into my chest.
I quietly let out a sigh and carefully carried her to the room's bed. I placed her down gently and pulled the covers up to her shoulders. I leaned in and kissed her forehead softly. As I turned to leave to sleep on the couch, she grabbed my wrist.
"John," I turned back to her. "Stay with me. Please." She gave me the puppy dog look.
"Okay, but just until you fall asleep." I said as I lay down on top of the covers beside her.
"We'll see about that." T.K. said sleepily and she snuggled up to me. I sighed and scratched my head. How does she always talk me into doing this night after night?
Eight A.M. rolls around…
I opened my eyes slowly and closed them just as fast. The light flooded into the room through a nearby window. I buried my face deeper into my warm pillow and sighed heavily.
"Told you, John." I heard T.K.'s smooth voice above me.
"Told me what?" I replied, my voice muffled by the pillow.
"That you'd stay the whole night, you always do." She said above me in a know-it-all voice.
"Mmm…" I clutched the pillow slightly tighter and heard T.K. giggle.
"That tickles you know!" She said as one of her soft hands dug into my hair.
"What does?" I asked as I found myself leaning into her touch.
"Squeezing me like that does." T.K. said with a smile. I opened my eyes and found that my 'pillow' was indeed her lap. I immediately sat up.
"Dandy…" I said as I rubbed my head. She gave me a confused look as I got off the bed and headed towards the kitchen.
"What's for breakfast?" T.K. bounded up behind me as I turned on the stove and cracked a few eggs.
"Eggs and whatever else you want." I replied as I washed my hands while the eggs began to cook. T.K. followed me to the sink and watched me wash my hands.
"Can I have apples?" T.K. said as she literally bounced up and down like a little child. I dried my hands and ruffled her hair. "I like apples…"
"Of course you can have apples, silly." I returned back to the stove and flipped the eggs sunny side up. I heard T.K. let out a sigh of content. She hugged me from behind and I must've jumped at least a few inches.
"Yay! I can have apples!" She buried her face into my back. "I love you John."
"Uh huh, of course you do." She released me and clung onto my arm. "I love you too. Now go eat some apples while I finish up the eggs."
She smiled and dug into the fridge and munched happily on an apple. I smiled as I watched her act all childish. That girl really likes apples. I placed the eggs on a plate when they were done and I gave her the plate and a fork. She dug in hungrily and threw away the plastic fork and the paper plate when she was done. As she was on her way back to the couch, she stopped where I sat.
"You okay?" I asked as I swallowed the eggs. She nodded, leaned in, kissed my forehead, and smiled.
"Thanks!" She bounded off to change. I felt my cheeks catch fire and I tried to hide it. I failed, I failed so hard. I quickly finished my eggs and threw away the plate and fork. I went to the other bathroom and changed my clothes into something comfortable. T.K. did the same and sat next to me on the couch.
"Okay, so what time do you think we should start looking?" She suddenly asked.
"Whenever Ghost and company are ready." I answered as I relaxed into the soft couch. I felt my partner watching me. "Hmm?" I looked over at her.
"You look good in black." She pointed out and nodded at my black shirt. "You look good in those pants too." She said as she poked my faded jeans.
"Thanks, you look nice too." I said as I ruffled her hair playfully.
"Really?" She got excited. I nodded.
A sudden knock on the door interrupted our talk.
"Looks like Ghost and company are ready." I said as I got up to answer the door and T.K. stood with me.
"I hope they are, I want to find Uncle Kale as soon as possible!" I heard my partner say in an adorable voice.
I reached the door and I was surprised to see what I found. Instead of Ghost, Angel, and Eve, there stood Kale. He looked like crap.
