Cant waste away
Chapter 8
Brelynn slept the rest of the evening away, even through the horde of teenage boys that bombarded the house for dinner and things. Neither did she wake the night either but slept mostly peacefully it all away.
Most
The sun was just rising when Sam was pulled from his own peaceful rest. He laid still and listened carefully. Going through a check list, Sam dismissed each thing that wasn't the reason for his being awake.
Emily was in the bed. Check
He couldn't senses any intruders. Check
There was no Pack in the house. Check
There was no sense of urgency. Half check ish. Something was bothering him and it was important but he didn't know why though.
His wolf's hackles were down. Check
His wolf – was unsettled actually. Whining for some reason, urging him to get up and go somewhere.
Tuning out all sound in his bed room, Sam listened very closely for any sound or noise outside of his bedroom. Brelynn's heart beat in his ears as if she was standing next to him instead of her room down the hall.
He listened to it for a second checking on her first before moving on. But something was off. Her heart was too fast and her breathing was rapid with several hitches and gasps.
Slipping out of bed Sam quickly made his way to his wards room. Before he even stepped near the door, Sam was hit with several strong emotions that almost left him gagging.
Terror. Real heart stopping terror.
Sadness. More accurate heartbreak.
Helplessness.
Desperation.
Brelynn was having a nightmare. Sam cut the distance between him and the door in seconds, almost ripping the piece of wood off the hinges to get inside and to the scared girl.
She wasn't tossing and turning like most people do when they're stuck in a nightmare. The picture she made was heartbreaking. Curling up tights as she could get herself to be on her side, the oxygen mask firmly in place, but even in the dark Sam could see the shine of tears sliding down her pale cheeks.
With a quick prayer that Emily wouldn't freak when she woke up alone without a note, Sam crawled into bed behind his best friend, just like he would do when they were little, and held her close through her fear and loneliness.
She didn't sleep much longer after that, her mind and body having enough. She woke slowly, blurry eyed and with the residue feeling of fear coursing through her like adrenaline. When she was mostly awake, her heart and breathing having calmed some, Brelynn finally noticed Sam behind her playing with a strand of dark hair.
"Was an old or new one?" Sam questioned softly, twirling the lock around his finger.
"Old" she whisper/croaked.
Sam nodded. He was quiet for a moment, "Was it the stone one?" When she nodded Sam let go of her hair and gently tugged Brelynn onto her back. Seeing her face now, he wiped away the fallen tears. He leaned down and kissed her nose.
"I'm sorry." He whispered. Sam sunk down a little more and wrapped his arms around her and held her for a time in comfort.
He lays with her until he hears movement in the kitchen, knowing its far past time for him to be up and getting ready for the day. He kisses Brelynn on the nose a second time since she's awaken and leaves leaving the door cracked as he goes.
On his way, he checks in on his imprint, The beautiful woman sound asleep in their bed. He heads down the stairs and rounds into the kitchen.
The alpha isn't at all surprised to see Paul making himself at home there. The fellow shifter is getting the coffee machine going after a late night/earl morning patrol shift.
Sam is content to sit in the quiet, listening to the two females upstairs and allow his pack mate do whatever. Quiet mornings, besides being woke by Brelynn's nightmare, were a treasure of Sam's.
"How is she?" Paul asks startling Sam for a moment as the other wolf made two cups of straight black coffee.
Paul hands Sam a mug, the alpha thanks him before answering his question. "Good enough to come home but not my girl." Sam explains.
His girl. They all know who his girl is and what she is like. Not by ever meeting her but stories told by mouth and memories by mind link. The entire Pack knows Brelynn Seawell as if they'd grown up with the girl themselves. Only none of them have ever met her in person until yesterday. A very upsetting day to remember.
Surprisingly, while the entire pack thought Emily would have a problem with Brelynn such a big part of Sam's past, present, and more than likely future, she took it all well. She wasn't jealous, curious and a little worried but that was all cleared up the minute she was introduced to the young woman a few years ago. Emily welcomed Brelynn with an open heart just like Brelynn welcomed Emily into her little family.
Thinking of his imprint the woman entered the kitchen sleep rumpled and tied in a robe. She went straight for Sam, kissed him good morning before wishing Paul a morning. She pulled a cup from the cabinet and poured herself coffee adding sugar and creamer; she needed sweet with her morning awake up not strong bitter stuff like the two men. Coffee in hand, she pulled her schedule book and things out to go over her day and planned meals.
It being Monday, Sam didn't see all of the pack most school mornings. They were all too busy sleeping in then rushing or finishing up homework so it wouldn't be late.
The only ones he saw almost every morning were usually only Jared and Paul both having graduated high school and on the community class when they weren't working at Jake's Garage 'The Pack' or doing council favors all over the res.
He saw Jacob, Quil and Embry only half as much as the older wolves, what with them just opening their own place of work with the garage and spending all their time to keep it running smooth in its first year and going to community college class in their spare time.
Thinking of the Pack in various types of schooling and watching Emily make meals and snacks for while she was gone brought Sam around to something he was dreading to think on.
Brelynn was still a junior in high school and while she was bed bound for at least another week and a half and house bound for a full month, she still had school she needed to do. Registering her at La Push high school and getting her all set and caught up was going to be a nightmare. Even more trouble was going to be getting her to actually attempt to do the work.
When Emily left for her classes at the local community college and Paul for his own morning college classes, Sam was still stuck in his dilemma.
He needed to call the high school. Both high schools, Makah and La Push.
There went his quiet morning.
