Author's Note: WOW SORRY EVERYONE! I REALLY DIDN'T MEANT TO NOT UPTADE FOR 29304819305 YEARS. Really I'm sorry. It's just that school started and it's Junior year so a lot is going on but that's not really an excuse. I'm going to try to update this fic more frequently, for those of you who are still reading it. (Thank you!) ALSO I know this chapter isn't too long so I'm going to write/post the next chapter pretty soon. Hopefully that will sort of make up for my absence. Enjoy 3

TRIS POV
When I walk into AP Bio, I see that Four is already at our table, rummaging through his backpack. He doesn't notice me as I sit down.
"What are you looking for, Four?" I ask. He glances up at me. "Tris!" he exclaims, "I didn't see you come in. You're so stealthy." I roll my eyes at this. "I'm looking for a writing instrument." He adds.
"I can lend you one," I say. I grab a black pen from my pencil case. I can feel his eyes on me as I do so. I find a pen and say, "Here you are partner, one black ink pen," I say handing it to him.
"Thanks Tris," he says.
Amar starts class, telling us to read a few chapters from our text and take notes. I open up my textbook and start to read when none other than Tobias interrupts me. "Hey uh so Tris…" he stammers. Oh no. He must be acting this way because I know his true identity.
"Yeah?" I reply shyly?
"So uh I was thinking that maybe after school today you'd want to come over and study for AP bio, because my dad's out of town." I pause for a second. What is he suggesting?
He hastily adds, "Not that I'm asking you because my dad is out of town! It's just a fact. Like your hair is blonde, I want need to study, you're my lab partner so you should help me study, your favorite color is blue, my dad is out of town for work. All facts. So um yeah. Do you?" he looks at me with a hopeful expression. I open my mouth to say of course, but then I remember that Tori is making help Peter today after school.
"I would really love to Four, it's just that I have to tutor Peter today after school." I reply. His face immediately fell in disappointment. "Oh right. Yeah okay." He says somewhat awkwardly, "So who's Peter? Your boyfriend or something?" Boyfriend?! "Oh god no! He's just this loner kid who seems to hate everything from my English class." Tobias looks skeptical. "Really! Tori is making me tutor at the library every Monday, him because I have the highest grade in class and he's struggling or something." I explain. Tobias relaxes at this news.
"Oh okay," he says. After a few moments a smirk crosses over his face. "So Tris, you're the smartest girl in class? And you said you weren't a nerd." I almost laugh, "Shut up! Computer programmer." I shoot back.
"Hey now, computer programming comes in handy now and again," Tobias says teasingly.
I was going to think of a clever response when Amar breaks my train of thought. "Four! Tris! Quit it with the playful banter and get to work!" he scolds. I immediately blush at this, but Four just laughs to himself and nudges my leg with his knee under the table, before adverting his gaze to his textbook.
We take notes for the rest of class. When the bell rings Four offers to walk to my locker. Since I'm new to the district, my locker is in a hallway that virtually no one goes down. As I take out my binders I need for homework tonight, Four says, "Don't forget your English homework. You're going to need that for Peter."
I groan. "Please, don't remind me. I really don't want to go. He kind of gives me the creeps," I complain, "I'd much rather study with you."
Tobias looks at me very seriously and says, "Tris. If you don't think you're going to be in safety with him do not go."
Well that was certainly dramatic. I think to myself. "Relax, Tobias. We'll just be in the local library." I assure him, "If Caleb can spend all of his time there it really can't be that dangerous of a place."
"Well alright. I just want to make sure you're comfortable with the situation." He says.
"What's he going to do paper cut me to death?" I ask jokingly. Tobias only grows more serious, and his body becomes ridged. "That's really not funny Tris." He says and walks off down the hall. Well alright this is moody behavior is extremely weird. Just then I realize that talking to Tobias made me miss my bus.
"Wait!" I call out after him. He stops walking but doesn't turn around. "Can you please give me I a ride home? I missed my bus." He turns around to look at me and sighs, "Of course." He says.
TOBIAS POV
Tris is sitting in the passenger seat of my car, I look over at her and she's looking at the window, but her body language looks tense. She turns to me and says, "Why are you mad at me?" She asks. Mad? She can't seriously think I'm angry with her. "I'm not." I reply.
"Okay then tell me why you reacted like a freak-a-zoid when ten minutes ago at my locker?" she asks me, venom lacing her voice. "Tris I wasn't mad I just-" How do I explain this to her without revealing anything? I don't understand how she can joke about her being cut to death so easily. I mean sure she said paper cut, but still. I also don't like the idea of her and that arrogant creep Peter alone together. It gives me a bad feeling. I glance at Tris and realize she's still waiting on an answer. "I just… don't like when people joke about death, or violence at all for that matter, it's something that's very serious and important to me" I say, "Sorry if I offended you."
Tris looks at me and seems to accept my answer. "Okay," she says. I can tell she wants me to elaborate, but I'm not going to of course, and she doesn't press it. The tension that was in the car is now gone and I decide to turn the radio on. Some top 40 pop song is on, which isn't my favorite genre but everyone knows all the words to this song, considering they play it everywhere.
Normally, I wouldn't sing in front of people but I decide now is the time to make Tris laugh. I begin to sing the lyrics at the top of my lungs, which as I had hoped sent Tris into a fit of laughter. Naturally she sang along with me, and she has a decent voice.
The song had ended but Tris was still giggling. She has a cute laugh. "Well Tobias, I wasn't aware you were a singer." She says to me. I laugh.
"I'm a horrible singer Tris, but you're actually pretty good," I tell her. Tris shrugs, "I wouldn't say that," she says.
"There's no denying it," I say, "Tris Prior, the next pop star!" I proclaim. She rolls her eyes at this.
"That's my street," She points out. I remember that she's the car with me so that I can take her home, and I feel a twinge of disappointment, I really wanted to study with her today. I turn down her street and pull into her drive. She's about to get out the car, but I stop her.
"Hey Tris?"
"Yeah Tobias?" she replies.
"I just wanted to thank you. For not telling anyone, you know, about who I am and stuff." Crap. That sounded lame. Now she won't realize how much I appreciate it. Tris just looks at me and smiles, "Of course Tobias, sorry if this is too cliché but your secret is safe with me." She says. I couldn't help but laugh at her cliché-apology.
Tris opens her door to get out of the car and turns to me and says, "I'll text you later. After the tutoring session." She says to me. I suddenly feel ridiculously excited. She said she was going to text me. Ergo, she wants to talk to me. I try to keep my cool so I just reply with, "Sounds good Tris." She smiles and get's out of my car. "Thanks for the ride!" she says.
"Anytime!" I call back.
Author's Note: Alright so like I said I'm going to update chapter 9 soon. I'm literally going to write it the moment after I hit submit for this chapter.
