Chapter 7: The Secrets on Bourbon Street
Charlotte's Outfit : chapter_secrets_on_bourbon_street/set?id=125087462#fans
"You did what?" I asked numbly as I stared straight into Klaus's guilt ridden face.
"It was before I met you Charlotte. It was only a liquor fueled one night stand, I never imagined anything like this would happen but according to the witches this is one of Nature's many loop holes. Haley is pregnant with my child but she is nothing but a nuisance to me" Klaus blurted, desperate for me to understand.
I listened to him intently but kept a blank face. He wasn't in the wrong, he didn't know me then and I didn't know him, but why did my heart twist in pain at the thought of this nobody having his child? I took a deep breath and looked back to the long dark road ahead of us as he drove.
"Please say something love" Klaus begged.
I then realized I hadn't really said much to him the whole time he explained the situation and what I needed to know before we entered New Orleans. I was about to enter an entirely different world and be caught in the middle of a war brewing on the streets between the witches and the vampires, the witches wanted Klaus on their side so he could destroy the tyrant that took over the city he and his family once called home.
I opened my mouth but no words came out, I couldn't think of anything to say, I didn't know what to think about the whole situation but I knew that I wasn't mad at Klaus. I turned my eyes from the road and look back at Klaus who stared at the road, his fists clenching the steering wheel tightly as he waited for my response.
"I'm not angry, I don't really have a right to be; I'm just…shocked. I'm sure you're just as shocked, who is she, this girl?" I questioned calmly.
Klaus sighed, "Her name is Hayley, I'm sure your sister has told you all about her"
I raised an eyebrow, "The werewolf girl who had the hots for Tyler and betrayed you? You really know how to pick your girls" I grumbled.
"I had to make several mistakes before I could find you" Klaus responded immediately afterward.
My cheeks heated up with a blush and I shot him a warning look, "Don't think that cheesy stuff is going to work all the time on me Mikaelson"
Klaus chuckled and took one of his hands off the steering wheel to hold mine, "You should get some rest love. We have a long journey ahead of us" He coaxed.
I gave him a small smile before I lay back in my seat and closed my eyes, my hand still secured tightly in his, the soft humming of the car helped me drift off to much needed sleep.
I felt someone shaking my shoulder gently, it jolted me out of a lovely dream I was having, I looked around me groggily, my eyes landed on a smiling Klaus.
"We're here sweetheart" He mused.
I looked around our surroundings to see us on a huge plantation; I looked out the windshield to see a very beautiful mansion. I stretched my muscles before exiting the car, I took in the warm sunny day and smiled, this was much better than returning to New York.
Klaus looked rummaged through a cooler in the back seat of the car, I watched him take out a blood bag, he stepped out the back before tossing it towards me; I caught it with ease and opened it taking a long sip. I could feel the veins under my eyes and my fangs poke my bottom lip I drained the bag completely, Klaus walked up to me with a shopping bag in hand and held out his other hand to me I grasped it and he led me towards the large house.
"So I may have to leave before I get the chance to show you around" Klaus started when he opened the front door for me.
I shot him a look of confusion, "Where are you going?" I wondered.
"I have some business I have to take care of, I promise I won't be gone long, you can have any of the rooms just relax and make yourself at home. If you run into Hayley, try not to kill her okay?" Klaus chided.
I rolled my eyes, "I'm not going to kill her, I don't go around killing random people Klaus" I objected.
"Well she's not the most pleasant of company and she might hate you since you're Caroline's twin sister" Klaus explained.
I snorted, "That's her own god damn problem"
Klaus smiled and pulled me in for a gentle kiss, he pulled away and placed another kiss on my forehead, "I'll be back soon go freshen up" Klaus ordered, handing me the shopping bag.
"Yes master" I answered my tone heavy with sarcasm as I took the bag from him.
Klaus shook his head in amusement before he walked out the door shutting it behind him; I turned away from the closed door and looked around the mansion.
It was absolutely beautiful, it felt old and homey and everything was decorated to perfection. I looked inside the shopping bag curiously to see new clothes and a pair of shoes. Klaus really knew how to please a girl.
I started up the large staircase on a mission to find a good room, I reached the top of the stairs to see multiple rooms down the corridor on my left; I used my vampire senses to smell out Hayley, she wasn't hard to find seeing as how she was the only other living person in her. I followed her scent and found that she was down the left corridor; I wrinkled my nose in distaste and headed down the right corridor.
I walked to the very end of the hallway and picked the last bedroom, it was gorgeous and fully furnished. My favorite part of it was the two French doors that looked like they led to a small balcony, I smiled in anticipation and walked over to one of the doors to check out the rest of the room, the first door led me to an empty walk in closet.
The second door led me to an equally beautiful bathroom, I sighed in relief, thankful that I wouldn't have to search around this large house for a bathroom.
I entered the bathroom and hit the light switch, I shut the door behind me and looked at the really nice shower, after 14 hours of driving I was in desperate need of a shower and I knew it. I disrobed quickly and turned on the warm water for the shower head; I stepped into the shower and sighed in delight I was in need of this.
Once my shower was done and I had dried off, I pulled out the clothes Klaus had purchased for me, they were close to my style and I was guessing he was dressing me in shorts for the warm weather. I changed into them and brushed out my hair with my fingers, I wanted to explore the rest of the house so I left the room that I had claimed as my own.
I walked back down the long hallway and as soon as I hit the stairs leading back down to the front door I smelled the wolf girl, she was a skinny little thing with long brown hair. I didn't see her face all I saw was the back of her and she was holding an iron poker, not much time after a blonde with a British accent strutted through the front door like she owned the place.
What the hell was going on? How many girls did Klaus have staying here, I was a little off put by the fact that he seemed to have a harem down here in New Orleans it was bad enough I had to deal with a pregnant wolf girl that also happened to be an enemy of my sister.
"Who the hell are you?" Hayley demanded, wielding the Iron poker.
The blonde regarded her with disinterest, and ignored the threat before her "Oh, you must be the maid. My bags are in the car – get them, will you?" She said in a haughty manner.
Hayley put down the Iron Poker and crossed her arms, "Hello. Not the maid"
I was peaking around the corner still and I didn't want to make a move until I knew who this blonde was, but of course that was the moment my phone decided to go off with the loud ringtone I set for my sister.
"Shit, shit, shit!" I cursed as I pulled my phone out of my pocket to silence it.
"Who else is here, show yourself" The blonde demanded.
I sighed and stepped from around the corner, Hayley seemed to pale at the sight of me and the blonde just looked livid.
"Caroline? What the bloody hell do you think you're doing here? You and you gang come to conspire against our family again, Nik is such an idiot sometimes" The blonde scoffed.
I raised an eyebrow, "I'm not Caroline; I'm her twin. How do you know Klaus?" I asked.
The blonde frowned in confusion, "Is this some kind of joke? I'm his sister Rebekah"
I gave an awkward wave, "Hi Rebekah I'm Charlotte, I don't think Klaus has mentioned me yet" I muttered.
"Clearly" Hayley snorted.
Rebekah focused back on Hayley, "Ah yes, Right. You're that werewolf girl my brother, Klaus, knocked up. I was expecting to see some kind of supernatural, miracle baby bump. Guess you're not showing yet. It's Hayley, isn't it?"
"You have your brother's manners" I snorted.
Rebekah shot me a death glare, "And his temper, too, so watch it. Where's Elijah?"
Hayley shrugged nonchalantly "Beats me, he's long gone"
Rebekah narrowed her eyes, "What do you mean by 'Long gone'?" She echoed.
Hayley sighed in what I was assuming boredom, "Well, one minute he was here making epic promises about protecting me in this predicament that a bottle of scotch and some bad decisions got me into – he was all poetic about how we're family – and then Klaus told me he bailed. Guess that's what I get for trusting a vampire" She explained muttering the last part.
That comment seemed to strike a nerve with Rebekah, "Elijah is not just any vampire, and he doesn't break promises, which means Niklaus has done something dastardly and Klaus-like. Klaus! Get out here and tell me what you've done with our brother, you narcissistic, back-stabbing wanker!" Rebekah started yelling walking around the foyer.
Klaus entered through a pair of double doors and I let out a breath in relief that I hadn't realized I was holding.
"Enough with all the shouting, Little sister, I should have known. I assume the six dead vampires were your doing?" Klaus asked calmly.
Rebekah flicked her hair in defiance, "They were very rude"
She explained the story leading up to the six dead vampires; she ended the story with a jab at Klaus "Trying to victimize a poor, innocent girl just trying to find her way to the Quarter. So sorry, were they friends of yours? Oh, that's right, you don't have any friends"
Klaus seemed to regard his sister's attitude with amusement, No wonder he handled me so well his sister was queen bitch.
"I do have friends. I have Marcel. You remember him, don't you? Yes, of course you do. He fancies himself the 'King of the Quarter' now, and he has these rules about killing vampires. It'll be fun to see what sort of punishment he comes up with for you" He replied with a cocky smirk.
Rebekah had a look of outrage on her face at his remark, "I don't care about Marcel or his rules. Elijah doesn't welch on deals. What did you do to him?" Rebekah hissed.
I walked to the stairs and sat next to Hayley who was watching the encounter with as much intrigue as I was. She broke her gaze on them and looked at me in surprise and fear, I looked back at her and offered a small smile she looked away from me with a frown; I rolled my eyes and looked back to the squabbling siblings.
"Perhaps he's on holiday... or taking a long autumn nap upstairs. Well, go on. Take a look around. You remember this house as well as I" Klaus shot back walking away from her, I shot up from my perch and walked down the stairs to follow him to the next room, he was pouring himself a drink.
"What the hell was all of that about?" I inquired.
Klaus turned to me and smiled, "Oh just some sibling problems I'm sure you understand" He stated.
I bit my lip in thought, "So where is Elijah, why is Rebekah so sure you did something to him?"
Klaus gave me a warning look, "It doesn't matter Charlotte, now I have some business to attend to but I also want to show you around the great New Orleans so accompany me tonight" Klaus countered.
I decided to take his suggestion and let it go for the time being so I plastered a smile on my face, "I would love too"
I definitely needed to get to the bottom of what was going on here and the only way I could do that was if I talked to Rebekah, Klaus wasn't keen on sharing his secrets with me and that wasn't the man I was trying to be with.
"Well we should be off then, I don't want to keep Marcel waiting very long" Klaus announced, downing the rest of his drink.
He set down his glass and held his hand out to me, I took it and he led me back out into the foyer where his sister was still steaming over their encounter. She looked at us and crossed her arms,
"Where are you going Niklaus?" She demanded.
"It appears the night is not quite over, yet. I'm off for another drink with Marcel and I have a date with this lovely women" Klaus replied sending me a wink, I looked away blushing.
Rebekah gave a look of disgust, "Elijah told me about your plan to take apart Marcel's empire piece by piece. I don't remember it involving you two drinking New Orleans dry together, and Caroline didn't want you so you go for the exact look alike? You're pathetic just like the Salvatore brothers. I don't know you Charlotte but I do know my brother and I know that he's just using you for his own personal gain just like he uses everyone else, including his family" Rebekah snapped.
"Enough Rebekah!" Klaus bellowed angrily, "I know you don't have many friends, Rebekah, but what some friends do when they get together is they drink. And when they drink, they tell secrets. Marcel has somehow found a way to control the entirety of witches in the Quarter, and I aim to uncover the 'how' so I might take it for myself. Finding Elijah didn't make my to-do list today" He continued heatedly before turning to the front door and pulling me along with him.
He paused as he opened the front door and looked back at his sister, "Oh and welcome home Rebekah" He finished. We walked out of the house the door slamming behind us, Klaus kept dragging me towards his car, I'd finally had enough and ripped my hand out of his grip, he looked back at me and stopped walking.
"What is it now?" He hissed.
I glared at him, "Hey don't take your anger out on me! I didn't have to come here Klaus but I did because I wanted to see where this adventure would take us but you're keeping secrets and I hate that. Clearly something more is going on" I speculated.
Klaus took a deep breath and looked away from my heated gaze, "I'm sorry Charlotte; I can't tell you everything you want to know because if you have that information it will put your life in danger, more so than it already is and I can't have that happen. So please just do as I asked and let it go so we can have a fun night" Klaus pleaded.
I looked at his almost puppy dog eyes and felt my anger slowly melt away, Klaus wasn't the kind of guy who begged for anything, so the fact that he was so desperate to just let this go sounded reasonable to me, for the moment.
"Fine but I want you to tell me eventually" I argued.
Klaus smiled, showing off his dimples, "Of course love, now come along" He coaxed.
We walked towards his car and I hopped into the passenger seat, "So before we get there you need to act as if I've compelled you, I can't have Marcel knowing that you're important to me, he won't really be able to pick up on the fact that your half vampire so play human as much as you can, when this is over I'll promise I'll show you the best spots around here" Klaus explained.
I nodded and flicked my hair over my shoulder, the drive from the country side back into the city limits was beautiful, Klaus and I chatted along the way but we didn't really talk about anything substantial. New Orleans city was lively and I was awed by all the music, art and people, Klaus parked in front of a line of stores and cafés we got out of the car and walked towards one of the cafés.
Klaus had a smirk on his face when he entered the joint, he slung his arm around my shoulders and led me towards a dark skinned man sitting at the bar, drinking by himself, Marcel.
"Well, this is a far cry from last night's party" Klaus pointed out.
He looked over at a pretty blonde who sitting across from us writing, I ignored the feeling of petty jealousy and pretended to be the compelled human.
"Ah, in pursuit of the bartender from "Rousseau's", I see" Klaus added in amusement.
Marcel smirked, "She's a work in progress" he confessed.
"And yet here you are, pining over her when you should be eating her for lunch. Oh, she must be special" Klaus teased.
Marcel shot me a look and kept the smirk plastered on his face, "Who's this beauty?"
Klaus's arm tightened around my shoulders slightly and he chuckled, "Oh she's just amusement for the day nothing important" He answered smoothly.
Time for me to play the dumb blonde, I smiled brightly and shot my hand towards Marcel, "Nice to meet you, I'm Caroline like Oh my gosh I just love New Orleans they have such great shoes" I bubbled enthusiastically.
Marcel shot me a polite smile but ignored my hand; I dropped it back to my side and internally sighed in relief that he thought I was just some dumb blood bag.
"I'm guessing she's compelled since she's here" Marcel addressed.
Klaus nodded firmly.
Marcel turned back to his drink, Klaus and I sat down on the bar stools.
"Business first. The coroner called. He's got my number in case any dead tourists show up" Marcel started.
"Let me guess – dead tourists with a stamp on the hand and vampire blood in their veins?" Klaus cut in.
Marcel shrugged nonchalantly "It happens. Someone takes a drunken tumble off a balcony, or into the Mississippi... And today I got two of them to deal with"
Klaus seemed to be paying attention to the blonde as Marcel spoke, I took a deep breath and kept my attention on Marcel with bright smile on my face, The other blonde was gathering her things to leave, Klaus stood up from his seat abruptly and approached her.
"Excuse me, love. What's that you're studying?" Klaus asked politely.
"Abnormal Psychology" She replied.
Klaus gave her a dimpled smile, "Abnormal psychology, well. Perhaps you could help me diagnose my friend over here. He's been a little bit depressed, can't keep his mind off a girl. He tells me she's a queen, fit for a king. I think he should cut his losses and move on. What's your professional opinion?" Klaus inquired.
The blonde looked at Marcel with a small smile on her face, "Be a nice guy, and maybe the opportunity will present itself someday" She answered coyly.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her failed attempt at trying to flirt with a guy, a vampire no less.
"How about tonight, nine o'clock? I'll meet you right here?" Marcel called out to her.
I crossed my arms and leaned against the bar, I needed a drink, or five.
"I'll take it under consideration" She called back before exiting the café.
Klaus whistled and came back to the bar clapping Marcel on the back, "Mm Harsh" Marcel said.
"I daresay I've lost my touch. Or you've lost yours" Klaus added.
I shot Klaus a small smile and he returned it with a secretive wink.
"Well we have one more order of business, I don't know if you want to bring the chippy, the boys might get the wrong idea" Marcel announced standing up from the bar stool.
I glared slightly at Marcel for the name and Klaus was about to argue but I stood up from my seat, "I'll just go home, I have a ton of things I need to be doing anyway, thanks for taking me out Klaus it was a real experience" I said, saying the last part a little sarcastically but I kept the sweet smile on my face.
I turned to Marcel, "It was really nice to meet you Marcel"
I looked back at Klaus and he looked at me with a face of mixed feelings. I turned away from them and walked out of the bar, the farther I walked away the calmer I felt, it was hard to stay upset in a place like this. There was so much going on and I decided to tour the city by myself.
I walked along the vendors and bought a few things for my friends back in Mystic Falls, I stopped in one of the little boutiques in the French quarter; it was full of pretty summer dresses and colorful beads and so much more.
My phone started to ring in the pocket of my shorts, I sighed and pulled it out to see Klaus's name flashing on my screen, I looked at the screen contemplating answering it but instead I hit ignore and stuffed it back in my pocket.
I didn't know why I was so angry with him but it seemed that no matter what I couldn't shake the dangerous drama; I left Mystic Falls to be with him, to find out who Klaus was.
My phone buzzed again I growled in irritation and checked it, Caroline. I quickly answered it.
"Care hey! I am so sorry I haven't called you" I said walking out of the boutique.
"Where the hell are you? We've been so worried about you! I thought you were dead or something, what is all that music?" Caroline demanded.
I looked at the festival going on around me and smiled, "I'm in New Orleans, Klaus convinced me to stay with him for the summer" I confessed.
On the other end of the phone it was silent. "You're in New Orleans, seriously? You didn't think to tell me!" Caroline exclaimed.
I winced at the volume of her voice, "I'm sorry it was sort of sporadic" I answered lamely.
She sighed, "Please stay safe, I swear to god I will find a way to kill Klaus if you get hurt" Caroline continued.
"I promise Care" I replied softly.
"I gotta go I'll tell everyone you're safe, call me tomorrow and keep me posted" Caroline bubbled.
"Bye Care-bear" I said before hanging up the phone.
I walked around more stores for a while but I noticed the sun going down and after 4 more missed calls from Klaus I knew he would be worried and super angry that I was avoiding him.
I walked past the French quarter and found myself heading down a random street surrounded by trees; it looked to be a small park of sorts. The moon was now shining high in the sky it was beautiful and full.
I noticed someone down the path way, it was Hayley sitting on a bench, she had a vial in her hand and she seemed really nervous. I started to walk closer to her to see what she was even doing out here by herself.
"Come on, Hayley. One upset stomach and all this stupid drama is ancient history" I heard her mutter to herself as she poured the vial into a cup.
I used my vampire speed and appeared in front of her as she was about to drink from the cup, I knocked it out of her hands angrily and pulled her to her feet.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" I growled.
She glared at me heatedly, "It is none of your god damn business, so stay the hell away from me. You're psycho boyfriend has done enough and I want out"
I glared back at her, "You can't kill a baby, Klaus should have a say too you can't just do things like that Hayley!" I boomed.
"If you want Klaus to have a baby then you get pregnant with his fucking demon spawn!" She hissed.
My hand clenched into a fist as I resisted the urge to slap her, there was the sound of a stick snapping that snatched out attentions. Hayley and I looked around and some random man appeared in front of us, he was a vampire.
"Dumb move, coming into the Quarter. You're coming with me, wolf" He growled viciously.
"Back off" I snapped back at him.
"I have had it up to here with vampires telling me what to do" Hayley sighed before she picked up the contents of the cup on the ground and threw it in the vampires face. I kicked the guy in the stomach sending him to the ground, I grabbed Hayley's arm and turned to start running but we were surrounded by more vampires.
I let my vampire face out and hissed at them threateningly. One of the vampires necks snapped and in the next instant the others heart was on the ground and there stood Klaus's sister, Rebekah.
"Now, that is no way to treat a pregnant lady and a guest. I do hate bad manners" She said to the bodies on the ground.
I looked at her in surprise and relief, letting my face go back to normal.
Rebekah took us back to the mansion also bringing the dead bodies with us, she called Klaus immediately and by his tone on the phone I could tell he was very angry.
He was at the mansion by the time we made it there, he didn't say a word to us he just continued to build a large fire. Once the fire was blazing he grabbed the bodies and started throwing them on top.
That's when he decided to talk, "This is why I told you never to leave the house. Werewolves are banned in the Quarter. I had a plan, and your little nighttime stroll put it all in peril! Leave him!" Klaus shouted at Rebekah who started towards one of the vampires that was still alive.
She stopped and shot him a look of anger,
"You've done enough, don't you think? Leaving a trail of bodies like a road map to my door?" Klaus continued.
"If I hadn't overheard this lot bragging about werewolf heads, everyone here would be screwed. And don't give me that crap about having a plan. You've had all the time in the world to execute a plan, and no one's seen you do a damn thing! Elijah made a deal to protect your child, so that it could save you from your selfish, rotten self. But you obviously don't give a damn about the child or Elijah, because what have you done to honor it?" Rebekah shouted back.
Klaus's nostrils flared in annoyance, "I have done everything. Let me spell it out for you, shall I? From the day I arrived, Marcel hasn't trusted me. From Day One, he's had his vampires ingest toxic vervain which, as you know, little sister; protects them from my mind control, I needed a spy, someone on the inside with me who Marcel would never suspect. So, I created a Day Zero and got there first. Marcel had just lost six vampires, thanks to your little murder spree, and he needed new recruits. So, I made the new one mine, before he'd had even a drop of vervain" Klaus explained.
I was getting angrier and angrier as I listened to them bicker back and forth about trying to take back this damn city, I stormed off towards the door but Klaus grabbed my arm and stopped me.
I glared back at him, "Let go" I warned.
"I tried to get ahold of you all day Charlotte, I told you this was just as dangerous to you, any of Marcel's gang could have seen you with Hayley. I can't have you in danger, I won't let you get hurt" Klaus said firmly.
"You have a funny way of showing that, If you cared so much then you would be here, you wouldn't be off trying to conquer the damn world" I mumbled back.
I pulled my arm out of his grip and continued toward the house, Klaus grabbed the vampire and towed him towards the house, following me.
"Does anyone have any more questions? No? Good, because I have a question. Hayley, what were you doing in the bloody French Quarter in the first place? Answer me!" Klaus shouted once we entered the house.
I stopped on half way up the stairs and turned around in fear of what was going to happen next.
Hayley looked at Klaus furiously while Rebekah cut in "Leave her be"
Hayley crossed her arms "You wanna know what I was doing? I was buying poison, so I could put your little baby out of its misery!" She growled venomously.
Klaus flashed at her and pinned her against the wall by her throat Hayley looked at him in shock, gasping for air.
I ran down the stairs and pushed Klaus away from her and tried my best to hold him back, to my surprise he grabbed my waist tightly and glared at Hayley wit hatred.
"Keep your hands off her! She is pregnant, for God's sake! All of this bluster about not wanting the child, and then the second she tells you she's ready to get rid of it? It's okay to care. It's okay to want something. That's all Elijah was trying to do, all he's ever wanted for you. All we've ever wanted" Rebekah yelled at him as she checked up on Hayley who was coughing and spluttering.
Klaus surprisingly calmed down a bit and walked to sit down on the stairs, " I gave Elijah to Marcel" He muttered.
Rebekah looked at him in horror, "What?"
"Marcel was nervous. It's bad enough one Original returned to town, but two? His crew was getting antsy. He wanted Elijah gone, so... I gave him a peace offering" Klaus objected.
"You bartered our brother?" Rebekah asked slowly.
"I have a plan. Gain Marcel's trust, dismantle his empire, honor Elijah's wish that that baby be born. I am executing that plan the only way I know how. If you don't like it, there's the door. See if I care" Klaus murmured before he stood up and walked up the stairs.
I sighed and walked up the stairs to follow him he stopped in the middle of the hallway and turned to look at me.
"What did I do wrong Charlotte?" he croaked.
I sighed and walked up to him, putting my arms around his waist.
"There's a lot going on Klaus I know what you told me I just didn't realize the reality of the situation and what happened with Hayley down there, you can't be angry she hates this and from what I hear she doesn't stick around too long. Cut her some slack, I may not like her but she's carrying something important" I said gently.
Klaus looked at me with a small smile on his face, "I wish It was you, I wish it was you carrying my child" He mumbled.
I gaped at him in surprise, "I-I don't even think I can have children I mean I'm half dead you know" I stammered.
Klaus chuckled and kissed my forehead, "It's only wishful thinking love, you should go get some sleep I know you've had a long day"
I sighed and leaned up kissing him softly, "Goodnight Klaus" I said before walking towards my bedroom.
"I'll join you later if that's okay" Klaus called back to me.
I chuckled and gave him a flirty smile, "I look forward to it" I said back coyly.
I smiled to myself and entered my room; there was a set of pajamas on bed waiting for me. I changed into them and turned off the light before climbing into bed, the sound of the crickets outside lulled me half way to sleeping. At some point during the night, someone crawled into bed next to me and wrapped their arm around my waist. I turned and groggily opened my eyes to see Klaus falling asleep next to me. I smiled and snuggled closer to him feeling better about the day.
